Happy Thanksgiving from Doki Doki Universe

Greetings from HumaNature Studios, the creators of the soon-to-be-released Doki Doki Universe. In the spirit of this year’s Thanksgiving holiday, we thought we’d share a preview of one of the stories in our upcoming game. This one is particularly relevant to the themes and spirit of Thanksgiving — odd as this may seem, as there are no pilgrims or turkeys to be seen.

This story takes place on a Japanese planet called “Suteki”. On this planet, a little sushi named Ebi-Sushi has run away and hidden, because she has discovered the shocking truth: Sushi is food! She fears she will be eaten by the hungry Sumo wrestler, so she and her two friends Maki-Sushi and Wasabi-Sushi become distrustful and afraid of all humans.

As QT3, you help Ebi-Sushi and her friends learn to trust humans again, and you help her see how they are loved and valued by Sumo-san and the others. Finally, Ebi-Sushi and her friends find out that Sumo-san is sick, and end up offering to make the ultimate sacrifice for him. (You can probably tell what this is from the screenshots in this post).

Thanksgiving is all about appreciating those around us, and about giving with a loving, grateful heart. It’s also about sharing great food with the people we love, and taking time out from our busy lives to let them know how much we value them.

From all of us here at HumaNature Studios, and from the folks at PlayStation, we wish you a warm and wonderful, relaxed Thanksgiving holiday.

  • Wow, I dig the art-style. At first was sad thinking it was only going to be for the PS4, but when I saw that it’s coming out for the Vita, I’m glad. Looking forward to this game!

  • The artwork looks like it was drawn by an 8 year old. ;)
But as long as it’s an interesting and fun game I don’t care about the graphics much.

  • Happy Thankgiving to everyone at PlayStation and all all who read this post!

P.S. Have a safe Black friday too.()

  • Looking forward to Doki Doki! Cool update. :-)

  • looks pretty cool. Love cool quirky games from japan…

  • It seems like a interesting little game I might try it when it is released just for fun

  • this game looks adorable. is it a platformer or more rpg style?

i’ve said it in a couple other posts but would be nice to get these things on PS4 as well.

  • Wow, a lot of really nice posts. To answer a couple of the questions: We release on the 11th of Dec. So in just over a week. The game is actually made here in the US, not in Japan, though you’re right, it does have sort of a quirky Japanese quality, and that kid like art style is certainly intentional. In terms of genre, it is definitely not a platformer so it is closer to an RPG – though it might be better to call it an RPG/Sim game. It is on the PS4, as well as the PS3 and Vita. And story based? Yes, very much so. Lots of small interwoven stories of the few hundred different characters on their 30 or so homeworlds, and one bigger story of your main character. It also has a personality test sort of built into the game, and you customize your home planet and visit your friends planets etc…

And thanks for all the well wishes and the Happy Thanksgiving thoughts. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving too. Next holiday here we come! Woohoo!!

  • Doki Doki Universe releases on Tuesday, December 11, 2013.

It hasn’t been mentioned on this blog, especially curious as to why it wasn’t mentioned in this blog post, nor a special blog post about it since this is such a sweet and unique and quirky game for all three of the main PSN devices, PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.
