PS4 Global Sales Update

Andrew House's Avatar Posted by on Dec 03, 2013 // President and Global CEO

In what is shaping up to be a historic year for gamers, I’m delighted to share an important new milestone with you. PS4’s North American debut on November 15th was PlayStation’s largest ever, with more than one million gamers picking up a PS4 in just 24 hours. Now, with PS4’s global launch expanding to a total of 32 countries worldwide, including Europe and Latin America, I’m proud to announce that more than 2.1 million PS4s have been sold.

It’s an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn’t have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence. The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible lineup of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead.

While PS4’s capabilities will continue to evolve, our commitment to gamers and breakthrough entertainment remains steadfast. We believe that videogames represent the pinnacle of artistry and entertainment, and we will work tirelessly to make sure that PlayStation remains the best place to play.

Thank you for your passion and your support — we couldn’t have done this without you.

2.1 is nothing compared to what it could have been if you increased production so that people would not have to wait 3-4 months to buy a product. If they are selling this fast then logic would state that if you make more you are going to sell more.

+ War_Machida on December 3rd, 2013 at 2:54 am said:

Cut the Brazilian PS4 price at least in half (from BRL4000, something around USD2000, to BRL2000) and you guys will sell this console here like it’s fresh water.

Are we all celebrating with music ownership and DLNA coming to PS4 in an update today? Is the Youtube app nearly ready?

I can’t wait to see them up today as we celebrate this?!?!

I’m a proud PS4 owner!

But not so proud of the (now paid) PSN network that failed horribly on black Friday weekend, preventing people from taking advantage of sales, redeeming plus, etc…

I’m really dying to use my Pulse Elite, any news to when this will be added to PS4, since your FAQ states it will be available.

+ Ichiron47 on December 3rd, 2013 at 4:46 am said:

Can we all get one free game of our choosing because of this?

+ hmw_kamikaze on December 3rd, 2013 at 4:47 am said:

I know this shouldn’t go here, but maybe someone will see it and can maybe do something about it…

WTF is up with Music Unlimited suddenly needing credit card information? I purchased a 1-year subscription a year ago using funds from my PSN wallet, and have spent hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars on the PSN without having to associate credit card information.

I’m personally boycotting Music Unlimited until I can purchase it without having to provide you guys my cc info. In all fairness, who thought this up? I was around when the network got “hacked”, so I’m really surprised you folks would pull a stunt like this.

Congrats on the 2.1 million PS4 consoles sold by the way. I’m one of them. I started the line at the Target in my city. Now I can’t play Music Unlimited with my games, and I’m taking to the internet to vent about it.

(I’m calling Music Unlimited to blast someone as well, not that anyone cares).

I just hope I can increase that number alongside other PlayStation fans in December!

+ Golwar on December 3rd, 2013 at 5:22 am said:

Impressive numbers, congrats!

Personally I hesitate if I should really jump onto another PS generation. While I like the hardware and adore many people working for Sony, from yosp to Shahid, I just can’t stand anymore how differently US and EU markets are treated.

Whatever part you compare, be it the variety and value of sales, the amount of apps & services or now the IGC too, US is always priorized.
As an adult German, Sony’s often adverse interpretation of german laws is just the cherry on top.

When I have the choice between an open system as Steambox, that globally treats people alike, and SCEE’s PS4 … well, till the Steambox appears on the market, SCEE still has time left to convince me.
Considering their progress within the last years, I doubt that they’ll use that opportunity.

Congratulations Sony! When is the next batch of consoles shipping?

+ Miggwilson on December 3rd, 2013 at 5:39 am said:

Great accomplishment! Just a few suggestions going forward to both Sony and even lowly MS. 1 – Have more must have game titles at launch to peak interest. 2 – Having the system not be backwards compatible is nothing more than a money grab. Its a shame too since people still like playing the oldies on occasion. Why must I have my PS2, PS3, and now PS4 hooked up? I understand the technology is different for each system but you really need to innovate so that game libraries don’t become value-less. 3 – All these new games need a SENIOR mode. I am 48 and still love to play. My hand/eye coordination is not what it used to be. I can barely run and jump and get through something much less have eight buttons all doing different tasks. I still like the entertainment value of going through the environment and having fun but then I hit a wall and its over for me. Just wish there was like a SENIOR invincible power or something like that.

+ eaglefan129 on December 3rd, 2013 at 5:48 am said:

it’d be nice if you can get more in stock to make that number grow…because it’s hard to find a ps4

+ mightyone01 on December 3rd, 2013 at 5:48 am said:

Sounds great! ….Now we just need some games and features on our consoles… Still cant play our own mp3s, or video, or use an external HD, or usb thumb drive, or place pix on our bkgrd or themes, or use youtube or anything using flash… Ability to play PS4 games? Amazing! Anything else… not so much.
