XSEED Games: A Year in Review

Tom Lipschultz's Avatar + Posted by Tom Lipschultz on Dec 26, 2013 // Localization Specialist, XSEED

Happy Holidays from XSEED Games

So, Christmas has come and gone, Chanukah is long over, Kwanzaa is just beginning, and New Year’s is just around the corner. Every one of us here hopes that you have or had a lovely holiday season, and will carry that loveliness into the coming year!

But no matter what your festivities may look like, one thing’s for sure: 2013 has been a year worth celebrating for the gaming industry, and for us at XSEED as well. A mere two weeks in, we got our year started less with a bang and more with a meaty squish as Corpse Party: Book of Shadows scared its way onto the North American PlayStation Store for PSP.

Months later, we released our very first physical PS3 title in North America with Killer is Dead, which SUDA51 fans (and fans of surrealistic action in general) agree is a killer good time. And we just closed off the year with a duo of handheld games for PS Vita: Valhalla Knights 3, our grittiest and perhaps most controversial title to date, and Ys: Memories of Celceta, one of our best-reviewed games in recent memory — which many rank among the Vita’s overall best offerings.

Killer is Dead DLC Images, 01Ys: Memories of Celceta, 02

All in all, not a bad year for XSEED on PlayStation… but 2014 promises to up the ante, big time! Ragnarok Odyssey ACE is coming to PS3 and Vita in both physical and digital form sometime in early 2014, and it’s going to knock the socks off of anyone who weaned themselves on the original Ragnarok Odyssey back in 2012 (As well as anyone who enjoys hunting Norse giants but can never seem to find the time for it!).

We’re also working with independent localization studio Carpe Fulgur to bring you the long-awaited sequel to The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky on PSP via PlayStation Store this summer. This will continue the tale of Estelle Bright as she searches the country of Liberl for answers to… so very many questions!

We have more in store for PS3, Vita, and even PSP fans in the coming year, so be sure to keep an eye on PlayStation.Blog, as well as our Facebook and Twitter, for any announcements (not to mention the inevitable pre-announcement teases!).

Be safe, be happy, and may these next 365 days be more bountiful than ever for us all!

Congratulations for this year XSEED

Any news regarding a discount for DIGITAL DAY ONE Ragnarok Oddysey buyers?

I am full digital and if i don’t get a discount i won’t buy ACE, i won’t pay a “Full price” for a “Expansion pack”, if you know what i mean

Thanks in advance!

Well, it’s more than just an expansion pack… but either way, we are exploring our options, and will do everything we can to make the transition to ACE fairly painless for those of you who’ve already “aced” the original. ;)

You guys are still my favorite publisher, I love what you do. Can’t wait for SC next year, and I finally ordered my LE of the new Ys.

Are there any rumblings of Origin coming to the Vita? I know it’s a shot in the dark, I own it on Steam, but I’d love to have it on a handheld.

Yeah, our year was actually even busier than what we listed here, but all the rest of our releases were on non-Sony platforms, so we figured it might be kind of rude to include them here. ;) But Shinovi Versus is indeed a great game, so hopefully we’ll be able to bring it to you guys at some point in the future. And since it’s on Vita, it’d be fair game for mention on PS Blog, too!

The BIG news is Trails in the Sky Second Chapter! Trails in the Sky is easily one of my favorite RPGs ever, thanks in no small part to excellent translation work. I’m sad it will be digital only, but I’ll be picking it up day 1. SC is one of my top 3 most anticipated games of the decade. Please PLEASE don’t make us wait so long for the final chapter!

Killer Is Dead is great. I love the characters and the presentation. The story is unique too, and I actually cared to see what was going to happen to them in the end. The gameplay is really satisfying too, once you get the hang of it. The learning curve was a bit rough for me, but I’m starting to attack much more swiftly now. :)

I was lucky that Amazon shipped me the Collector’s Edition when I only ordered the standard game when it was on sale for $29.99 just before Black Friday. All those extra goodies are really high quality! I was especially impressed with the hardcover art book.

Thanks XSEED

Killer is Dead LE, Ys Memories of Celceta LE, all the Ys games from the PSP on PSN store, both Corpse Party games(i’m chapter 3 now, and this is scary as hell!!), Senran Kagura Burst.

i have four questions from you Tom. i hope you reply!!

1. who’s the girl besides on the left of Mondo in the pic above?

2. any plans on bringing Valhalla Knight 3 Gold on the west with JPN audio? i was about to buy the game, then suddenly a revision get’s announced.

3. Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus when?? :D

4. finally any plans on localizing Corpse Party: BloodDrive Vita and Corpse Party 2 PC?? also just for the sake of question: Sachiko’s Game of Love has any chance?

i plan to buy Ragnarok Odyssey Ace and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Second Chapter Day 1 for sure!!

i hope someone localizes the other arcs of The Legend of Heroes, especially the Crossbell Arc ^^

Zero no Kiseki Evolution and Ao no Kiseki Evolution on Vita looks amazing!!! reminds me of the Xenosaga and Zone of the Enders series with all the mechs in a JRPG setting ^^
