MonkeyPaw Games Retro Rush Week 3: The Firemen 2: Pete and Danny

The third week of the MonkeyPaw Games Retro Rush is all about a pair that works well together. Like salt and pepper, peanut butter and jelly, or cocoa and marshmallows, Pete and Danny are inseparable as a firefighting team that work together like clockwork.

What’s the Retro Rush? Each week, for six weeks, we’ll be releasing a new import PSone Classic on PlayStation Store for PS3, PS Vita, and PSP. So far, we’ve brought Double Dragon and Lucifer Ring to PlayStation Store, and a firefighting duo is about to join the Retro Rush with The Firemen 2: Pete and Danny.

Retro Rush Week 3: The Firemen 2

In The Firemen 2: Pete and Danny, the titular heroes arrive on the scene of a theme park that’s burning to the ground. People are trapped and fire is running wild, there’s pandemonium all over the place. Pete and Danny answer the call and head into the blaze to rescue civilians. Oh, did we mention the game also takes place on Christmas Eve? Talk about a stressful day. The good news is you can bring a friend into the chaos since The Firemen 2: Pete and Danny is a local co-op game.

What makes this game one of the quirkiest titles we have ever released is the fact that this is an action RPG firefighting game. The key difference from a traditional action RPG is that you won’t find giant rats or balls of sentient goo to battle — the enemy you face is fire. Fire will come in all shapes and sizes and you’ll need to plan the best method of attack so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Between the unique gameplay and the co-op mode, The Firemen 2: Pete and Danny will be an awesome addition to your import collection. You can download The Firemen 2: Pete and Danny starting tomorrow, January 28th, for PS3, PS Vita, and PSP.

The Retro Rush will continue next week with a game that makes it a sport to climb tall, tall structures. Get ready to go bananas — Hyper Crazy Climber is coming in Week 4 of the Retro Rush.

The Retro Rush is halfway to the grand finale! Which Retro Rush titles are you playing? Find MonkeyPaw Games on Twitter at @MonkeyPawGames and let us know.

  • This looks pretty good, I’ve never played but I’m tempted

    • If you have never played an action RPG firefighting game, where you save a theme park, this is the perfect place to start! :)

  • Excellent Stuff! Still waiting for Maximo vs Army of Zin on the US PSN store.

  • Sooooo outta control stoked for this. The first game is one of the unsung gems of the SNES, but I never got to play the sequel since only JP and EU got a release of it. THANK YOU MONKEY PAW! Good choice!

  • The fireman? Wow, I remember that game from the Snes, it was pretty fun and original. I didn’t know there was a sequel. And this one has local coop too? Sound tempting.

    • Yeah, the sequel never has been released outside of Japan until now! There is indeed local coop and if you need help with the menus, we have some info on our website that will help with that.

  • Please bring Bubble Bobble to psone classics

  • I heard this one wasn’t as good as the SNES game, but I’m going to get it anyway. :)

Thanks for bringing us these rare import games. :)

  • Done and done. I feel like local co-op games should be your focus from here on ;)

I’d really like it if the PS1 emulators on PS3 and Vita would upscale/AA the 3D graphics like every open source emulator has for 10+ years. Supporting ad-hoc local network play for 2 player PS1 games on Vita would also be cool.

    • Have any other local co-op games you want to see? Let us know and we’ll take a look.

Emulating these games on consoles is a tiny bit different but as processes and methods improve, we’ll do everything we can to improve on it. Wouldn’t network play be awesome? Totally agree but with retro games, it would take even longer to bring out. That said, it’s something we’ll keep in mind, it’s just going to take a very long time to look into and figure out.

  • I may need to check this out.

  • Any Chance you could bring Tomb Raider Chronicles to the PSN Store ?
Also , a nice Sale on ALL tomb Raider games would be nice ( Like you did for Final Fantasy ).

  • to Jays1Fan, that sounds like something you would have to ask Square Enix about since they own the rights to that series.

  • to Superstone, Bubble Bobble is owned by Taito ( which is also owned by Sqaure Enix.

  • I am glad to see more PS1 import games finally back & making to the PS Vita. But what I am not thrilled to see is that in this post there is not a lot of feedback & excitement for these imports. We have to support the the PS Vita because with our help the platform will thrive. Sony is doing there part great games are constantly coming out. But the so called people that say if this was out for the PS Vita they would buy it. Or why isn’t this out for the Vita, the platform will only be as strong as the community supporting it.

  • Hoping to see these gems in the store soon:

    Megaman Legends 1 and 2
    Jade Cocoon
    Einhander
    Vandal Hearts
    Suikoden 2

And how about final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core? Can’t believe that one’s not in the store.

  • Are these cross-buy?

  • You guys should bring the Clock Tower games to PSN. They’re by the same developer of The Firemen, and Vanguard Bandits (which is already on PSN).

Also there’s a new Strider Hiryu game coming out on PS3 and PS4, you should think about bringing Strider 2 (PS1) to PSN also.

Wolf Fang looks pretty cool, I’m thinking about getting it. I’d get that Double Dragon fighter if I had anyone to play it with.

  • I always seem to miss the prime time that you guys post and monitor these, but I’ll always take the opportunity to see if you guys would consider a few games: Einhander, DonPachi, DoDonPachi, and Little Princess. All of these PS1 Classics are already on JP PSN. The latter three have never been released outside of Japan.

  • For PS1 I would love to see Medievil 2,Crash Bash,Rival Schools or Project Justice,Saga Frontier and alot of Mega Man Titles.
For PS2 I love to see Dragon Quest 8,Mega Man X8 and Radiata Stories

  • Please tell me vita will have online coop.

    • Unfortunately, it’s local co-op only. The good news is that you can also download your purchase to a PS3 and play from there too.

  • yes! getting this!!! also cant wait for a bunch of indie games coming this year to my vita! love it!!

  • Oh damn this game looks good….another one I missed on PS1…I’m loving this retro rush thing…already 2 titles that I missed…1st Lucifer Ring and now The Firemen 2: Pete and Danny…can’t wait to see more about it….I’ll look out for gameplay.

Keep it up the great job guys.
