PS4 System Update 1.60: Official Headset Support; Gold Wireless Headset Out Soon

Hello PlayStation Nation! The next system software update for PlayStation 4 (version 1.60) will be available for download beginning late tonight, bringing support for the PULSE and PULSE – Elite Edition wireless stereo headsets to PS4. We know you’ve been patiently waiting for this update, which means PS4 owners will now be able to enjoy an enhanced gaming experience with 7.1 virtual surround sound and crystal clear voice chat with our official PlayStation headsets. PlayStation headsets are created for PlayStation gamers, by gamers – and designed to truly provide the audio that game developers intended. It’s truly how games were meant to sound.

I’m also excited to introduce the newest member of our headset lineup – the Gold Wireless Headset, which launches early this month. This new headset offers 7.1 virtual surround sound, custom audio modes created by developers specifically for PlayStation games, a hidden noise cancelling microphone for voice chat while playing online, customizable faceplates, and other features –all for $99.99 (MSRP).

PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset

You can connect the Gold headset to your PS4, PS3 or computer using the wireless adaptor for eight hours of straight gameplay. The headset also is compatible with your PS Vita or other mobile device with the included 3.5mm audio cable. The portable, folding design and travel pouch make it perfect for playing games or listening to music at home or on the go.

The Gold Wireless Headset and the PULSE – Elite Edition are compatible with the free Headset Companion App, which hits PlayStation Store in February. The app allows you to download developer-created audio modes that are specifically tuned to enhance a game’s audio. Kicking off the custom sound modes will be Sucker Punch, who’s developing a mode for their highly anticipated PS4 exclusive inFAMOUS Second Son. In addition to these custom audio modes, the app also offers a variety of preset audio modes for games, music and movies, as well as a tool to create your own custom EQ mode.

  • I came home and my PS4 said i had the new updates seconds before i got the email on it. So i preceded to install and try to pair my Turtle Beach PX51’s to it. And after a bit, the name will show up( without the opaque circle next to it) and hit X to connect, but it said “No File Was Found To Connect These Headphones” or something to that affect. I DID Update my Turtle Beaches and unless there is a new update for them, can you let me know if there is a new update coming with support for other headphones? Because instead of plugging them into the controller like a jack * wagon, I just plug the optical cable into my TV, Bluetooth them to my phone and call friends to play instead. Is such a thing coming Sony? I’ve been with you guys since PS1 and don’t plan to leave yet…

  • Did the update. Plugged doggle USB to ps4 connected to elites. Ps4 never reads it and it is set to all audio(couldn’t change it even if I needed to. Stuck on that). Called Sony and they said it will still be a couple hours b/c of maintenance. But then I see on here people talking about how it works. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • So your new update appears to be worthless. No game sounds on the original headset. I even checked under the menu and put all output through the headset and still nothing when the headset turns on the sound goes off but nothing happens on the headset. If you tell it voice chat only then game sounds over the TV speakers. Once again this should have been live at launch.

  • This is BS, nearly 3 months into launch and we still don’t have HDCP patched yet.

  • This headset looks fantastic. I have a feeling these are going to be a lot smaller then previous headsets. I don’t know how I feel about the 7.1 surround sound, I’d prefer a natural 5.1 with 40 mm speakers but honestly, it’s probably going to be awesome regardless. Oh, man and having the ability to download a EQ preset personalized for a certain gaming experience, perfect! It doesn’t hurt that they’re a great price either.

  • to # 6 and everyone else who can’t think out of the box…..

    QUOTE:

“Why do these headsets still require dongles? I own the first Pulse headsets and I would have expected by now that the dongle not be necessary especially with the PS4….. can someone on Sony’s side comment? Thanks”

You do realize people use these headsets on more then just their PS3 or PS4 right? We use them on laptops (many of dont’ need or have a Bluetooth laptop or a dongle to enable BT on it….), MP3 players like my Sansa Clip, plugged straight into my Sony Bravia TV while wanting to watch something on Uverse really loud…..

Everything doesnt’ have Bluetooth you geniuses…… If they made these headsets Bluetooth instead of regular wireless with a dongle transmitter it would actually LIMIT what you can use them on. Would you rather they made them like Turtle Beach and had a huge freaking stand that doubles as a transmitter? Be glad you have a nice compact dongle that’s easy to move around……

  • So my Wireless Stereo Headset do work, from what I believe. But the sound isn’t all coming into my headphones. Is this how it was directed? I think it’s going to be pretty pointless if I can only hear people I’m talking to but I can’t hear the sounds from the TV. Seeing how the headphones are noise cancelling as well.

This worked great on my PS3 because I could hear EVERYTHING, and I had the power to turn up and turn down the voice chat.

Is there an ETA that the headphones will work as they do on the PS3? I want it all sound from the game as well as the ability to talk to everyone. I’m not trying to be spoiled or anything, I’d just like to have my headphones work as they do on the PS3.

I cannot forsee how this could be so difficult.

    Thanks!

  • Sony,
Glad your working to make our existing PS headsets work on the PS4. I noticed prior messages that “Yes our previous PlayStation wireless stereo headset before pulse will work on PS4 with the update!” Sorry to tell you that the update 1.60 didn’t work or else their is more to be done than just the update. I get error CE-32988-0 and no sound from the device. The usb lights up like its working. Please help.

  • when will capture cards for people that use products like the ELGATO be supported on the ps4?? i need to be able to record and upload to youtube again! please respond sont :(

  • Sorry! Thanks to +hundredhandslap on page 11 near the bottom!

Go to Settings – Sound and Screen – Audio Output Settings – Change Output to headphones to ‘All Audio’

    Whoop Whoop!

  • Never mind comment 558. Removed and reinstalled USB doggle and headset linked up. Thanks Sony for the upgrade.

  • Hmmm, so I’m guessing it pretty much has all the features of the Pulse Elite except the Bass Impact technology? So this might be considered a downgrade from the Elite, right?

  • How do these cost

  • How much do they cost

  • ok Sony in the latest update you can’t get into the playstation store even for US customers. Please fix. Thank You.

  • New update not letting me on the store. Can someone from Sonys side give me some info. Thnx

  • I’m thinking about getting this headset since my Astro A40s do not work correctly. Will this update make the Astro 40s work properly? This headset does look promising!

  • Plus the IGN app won’t open please fix Sony.

  • When can we expect these in store’s like Bestbuy in Canada? (finally something to spend my gift card on ) :)

  • Same issue here. Get a notice that the PS Store and Music Unlimited are unavailable in my area/region. Say what??? I’m in Cali…

  • Why is it every time i update the PS4 there is a problem??? Do we have toddlers working on the PSN? I mean if you can’t put out a simple update someone needs to be fired and replaced. Too many people are paying for this service to not have it correct when the update is released! It’s just very frustrating.

  • I’d particularly like to see the restrictions for HDCP devices removed, PS1, PS2 and PS3 game-compatibility with PS4 (honestly, it’s worth it to the customers who pay for their online services), DNLA, 3D-Compatibility, and an ultimate fix for the Saving mechanics to all of the games. I’m sick and tired of playing, and then losing my entire save data. I was over 3/4’s of the way through my campaign in Battlefield 4, and my console erased the data after I turned it off. Heck, I’ll gladly go back to memory cards if it means I can keep the data I pay for.

Also, please make sure that Updates don’t have bugs that “bork” the console to where we cannot use PSN functions (Store, Browser, Netflix, etc.) I am currently getting the old “This service is not available in your country/region.” I’m in the Eastern U.S. not AU. Thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Trey L. (loyal consumer)

  • Hopefully these headset seem lighter as claimed. Pulse Elite speakers where too heavy for such a delicate headband support .

  • when i use my old headset pulse edition (no elite) on my ps4, i lose my connection to internet and i cant hear the sound of the game.

  • Can wate to buy them, look good sony

  • I just installed the update and the screen is now gray and the blue light has been pulsating for 8 minutes now. Can I just hit the power button or did my console just get bricked by the update? I can’t handle this right now.

  • Sooooo… I got the update, but my headphones still are connecting properly. Any advice?

  • @573 Haha! I completely agree. I love the sound, but the weight on that headband got pretty uncomfortable!

  • What would be nice is the ABILITY TO LISTEN TO MUSIC ON THIS HEADSET FROM MY PS4 seeing as its a next gen console I should be able to put music on my system!!!

  • What would be nice if people didnt’ complain over and over and over about things they KNOW (unless they’re complete morons) will eventually be patched into the console JUST like it was on the PS3. UNTIL THEN …. PLUG YOUR HEADSET’S DONGLE INTO YOUR pc/LAPTOP AND LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC FROM THERE! gee what a thought….. shocker huh? hmmmmmm, can’t those things play your digital movies too? And you could plug the dongle into any usb port and use the 3.5mm headphone cord to plug your MP3 player into the dongle and listen to your mp3 player wirelessly…… of course that’s just on the Elites. And maybe this new Gold one, I couldn’t tell if the dongle had a headphone jack.

  • sure would like to have 3D support. let me rephrase that, should’ve already happened by now…still haven’t been able to watch WW Z in 3D yet or man of steel. why?? seems how you guy’s pushed 3D tech in the first place. sure wish we could get a definitive answer.

  • not too many people give a hoot about 3D (at home) so I doubt it’s on the top of their list of things to patch in. I know it’s on it, just not high lol. The 3D tech they pushed as you said (like their 3D PS monitors) didnt’ sell jack….. if that tells you anything.

  • Please . It is possible connect wireless USB to my TV ? Sony Bravia KDL805. Can I watch TV with Headset ?

  • It is compatibile with TV ?

  • Just got the kraken 7.1 ,but i didn’t feel the surround sound on the ps4 . Does this update fix it?

  • the update does not work on the turtle beach Bluetooth headset

  • ……………… some people …… lol learn to read. The update was only to fix the Pulse headsets.

  • i thought it would be something really interesting like adding music and video icons on your ps4 console and make fflash player available on the console….but right now i am very disapointed on the ps4 new firmware.right now i hate my ps4 and prefer ps3 consoles…..
they should work on that issues

  • please tell my will ever BT support Turtle Beach PX51 i realy need this info

  • tel me will ps4*

  • I’ve been looking for a new headset. These look perfect!

  • Installed the update and my “Wireless Stereo Headset” with virtual 7.1 surround (what the Pulse used to be called) is still not working. The PS4 recognizes the device and says it’s plugged in, but the sound is still coming out of the TV. Any ideas?

  • learn to use your console and do what’s been said many times now. Go in the settings and set all audio to output to headphones. Off note…. I’d love to know why we have to manually do that when the PS3 switches back and forth on it’s own…..

  • ok. does this include the blue head sets that works with cell phone. I have a couple (planasonic 222) and the system says it does not support it. So just in case I cant afford $100.00 head set, whats a way cheaper option?

  • Do we have an official release date for these bad boys?

  • I’m using my ps3 wireless headset ( finally because i bought this before the ps4 went out because the retailler told me it was going to be compatible. But since the last patch, yes i can plug it, no more error, i can speak with my friend but i don’t get any sound from the game. Only usable in the chat and don’t have access to the headset volume like when i used my gf turtlebeach… i dont understand why. i’m using the “all sound” option… i’m looking for help on forum and i can’t find anything is it something wrong with me or its not in the patch or…. i don’t know

  • what ablut skyle and other apps… like what else can we look forward to being on the ps4 and what updates could we expect fo see soon?

  • about* skype*

  • Will ps4 ever support wireless chat with the Turtle Beach PX4?

  • Weird question, but is this comfortable for people with big ears? Many “around the ear” headphones end up pressing down on part of my ears, which hurts after a while.
