Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Out Today on PS Vita

Greetings, doods! It’s David again from NIS America here to let you know that the much anticipated title Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is out today in retail and digital form exclusively on PS Vita! If you haven’t heard, let me – wait a minute, who’s there? What’s that crazy looking bear doing here with that hamme –

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Hey, kids! David’s decided to take a little nap, but your headmaster Monokuma comes bearing some great news! Today’s the first day of school for you at Hope’s Peak Academy, my super-special, super-elite high school for the best of the best and, since someone’s too lazy to do it, I guess I’ll have to give you the grand tour of where you’ll be trapped – I mean, staying for a while. The whole tour should be quick and painless, so get off your butts already and follow me!

First off, you’ll be seeing things through the eyes of Makoto Naegi, who won a ticket into this most prestigious school and is the Ultimate Lucky Student – but that’s debatable. Everyone here is the best at what they do, because I’ve got very high standards and I don’t even know why you’re here. But anyway, the education system’s become a little unbearable and so I decided to mix it up a little. You’ll notice all the windows and exits are barred, which I find to be an excellent motivational tool for kids that seem too easily distracted these days. Did I mention the only way to graduate from this place is to kill one of your fellow students and get away with it? But if the murderer is discovered, then they get a tailor-made, supremely deadly punishment from the headmaster. It’s an unorthodox curriculum, but it’s really fun (for me)! And doesn’t it just feel more special if you’re the last to survive of all these best-of-the-bests?

At Hope’s Peak Academy, you’ll get the chance to interact with your fellow students and learn more about them – even learning special skills that might help you later on. But I wouldn’t get too close because someone always ends up dead. We teach life and death lessons here! Once someone dies, it’s up to you to do the gumshoe work, roaming the school halls, scouring for clues, and talking to the surviving students to get a grip on who did what.

After you’ve armed yourself with all this knowledge, I’ll gather you kids for the Class Trial and test out your critical thinking skills! You’ll need to keep sharp in order to see through some people’s lies. Not only will I test your critical thinking, but your reflexes as well! You gotta act fast to shoot down people’s false statements in time, and use those special skills to help you keep the heat on your prime suspect. I love a good repartee, especially when someone’s life is on the line. Once you’ve revealed the murderer, then I come in and give them a poetic death sentence while you all get to watch!

Life lessons, critical thinking, reflexes… Hope’s Peak Academy is THE place to get a well-rounded education. It’s just, you know, a little hard to survive the first year. But take it from me, Headmaster Monokuma, if you do survive, you’ll have a really great time! It looks like David’s still sleeping, so I’ll speak on his behalf and tell all you kiddies to go out and get Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc today. I’ll be waiting for you! Puhuhuhu!

  • I’m picking this up on my way home, I can’t wait. Great timing, too, since I just beat Ys: Memories of Celceta last night. :)

  • Does this features voice over fully?

  • Could you confirm the download file size of the digital version on PSN?

I need to make sure I have enough room on my vita. :)

  • This shall make for nice evening, once the mail arrives. Kinda ashamed I missed out on the limited edition at the NISA Store.

  • Ok I have to admit. I was going to hold off on buying this game day one, but reading this AWESOME and completely original preview, I’ll gladly be anticipating for PSN to update so I can buy the title TODAY digitally (gotta use up that 32gb)! I’m a huge fan of the anime art style, mystery, and Phoenix Wright-like gameplay, so I was very interested from the beginning. Time management was the only constraint for me, but I’ll force a couple of hours here and there just because it’s such a unique title with an awesome art style. :)
Great job David Alonzo on the preview! It was so much fun to read.

  • I received my copy from Amazon yesterday, absolutely loving it. It’s such a well-rounded package, I’m not really having any issues with any element of it. Really rad game. Can’t wait for the second one, and I’m not even done the first. ;)

  • I shall make this mine.

  • Looks great cant wait to try it :)

  • games look nice, wish the bring the 2nd one too over the US

  • Kirigiri is objectively the best girl in the game. Will pick this up once I get a Vita Slim.

  • Looking forward to this, but still bummed I learned about it too late to order the limited edition. My fault for not knowing what it was.

  • Good looking and good anime style :)

  • is it just me or is the game still not available for download from PSN? I only see the trailers…

  • Will get as soon as I have money!

  • @13 Its not available yet because the PS Store has yet to be updated. Wait til the store updates this afternoon and it should be available then.

  • So, I just read that you will localize Danganronpa 2 too!
Who would have thought! I mean, you really can “translate” A WHOLE GAME (Danganronpa 1・2 Reload) but, ooooooh you will CHARGE FULL GAME PRICE AGAIN don’t you? Shameless bas*

Charging full price for HALF GAME with extra bugs and awful translations is something you would expect from one of the most terrible companies out there.

Bravo NISA, bravo. You keep giving fame to your reputation.

  • @16: What charging “again”? The only ones able to “charge” again, were the Japanese publisher (not sure who that was).

They released the games on PSP, sold them both full price. Then shove both together and sold it on Vita.

NISA never localized the PSP games. Therefore, there is no reason to expect them to translate *TWO* games and charge for one.

Bravo Viewtiful_Gene, Keep making a fool of yourself.

  • Just gotta wait for my Limited Edition to arrive. Until then I got Toukiden to keep me busy. <3

  • hey when are you guys going to shipping out more ps4 camera they are impossible to find and when is the US getting the Sony dualshock 4 charging station

  • Great! Now let me download it :D.

  • My friend and I went by gamestop earlier today, and she got the last unreserved copy. I guess I’ll be picking this up from the PS Store!

  • Nice! Looks like it’s now available to buy on the PS Store!

    Bought & downloading now…
    :)

  • Oh, the Elvick_ whiteknight arrived yet again! And surprise, surprise, he is defending their sodom* lords. And surprise! he is giving the same lazy and bad argument he gave before! Just read what I said in the previous publication, I won’t copy paste it, but seriously, read it, and then come back, hopefully you will THINK about the state of gaming right now, and you will also THINK a little that if you continuously accept CRAP the publishers will do whatever the f*** they want, letting them being lazy, incompetent and unprofessionals little s****.

What, you think you gain something accepting everything and kissing their feet?!
Wake up already. You are part of what is killing the game industry.

  • Thanks for bringing this over! My copy should be arriving any minute now (from Amazon).

  • Awe yeah more PS Vita games you gotta luv it. After watching the video this is another must get game for me. This is for sure the year of PS Vita with outstanding games coming. Now all I need is my PS Vita 64 GB memory stik from Japan to show up this week hopefully.

  • I own the PSP version and can vouch for the games quality. Shame it took forever for the game to be brought over here, and not even on its original platform, but better late than never!

  • Thanks for bringing the game over!

  • Preordered my LE from the NISA store ages ago. cannot. wait.

  • -__- well ill be playing it on the 20th when its here in Australia. Still really hyped for this.

  • #23….. this is why I don’t read PS Blog comments. Christ

Anyway, I’m looking forward to this. Waiting for my LE to arrive.

  • Got home from work and looked out my door and no copy of my game yet >.< but I shall endure for another day for my LE version, Note my first LE of a game in years thanks for the hardwork NISA

  • Honestly, I have too many games to play on my Vitas. My Vita backlog exceeds my PS3 backlog. Keep them coming!

  • Man!!! All i gotta say is “DANG” “PEOPLE” ya’ll mean ya’ll want to commet ya’ll keep commetting on the P.S. store forum!!!

  • I take it soon it is half the price , i just cant pay his full price tag but i will wait.

  • One of the few games I would buy for PSVita. So far I have Persona 4 Golden, Killzone Mercenaries, and I pre-ordered Donganroppa(EBgames have it in stock but not touching them because of their 5 dollar hike, Amazon a bit slow :(), and Conception 2. All these JRPG have that art style that I love from the Persona series, and the link thing that is similar Devil Survivor I like.

Now need to save some Swagbucks and Gifthulk to pre order Demon Gaze, hopefully make it.

  • Happy with this release, however just found out Japan gets 2 games while we get 1 game. They get Danganronpa 1+2 Reload, while we just get the first half.

Hope the success of this will bring the 2nd one translated or at least a digital release. I don’t want to fix my PSP, Learn Japanese, and import the 2nd game.

  • Actually just read this thread:

    http://nisamerica.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12848

Okay, I know this game is a success, at least the places I have went to have been all sold out bar EBgames. I hope NISAmerica localize the second one in the future even as a Digital release like Atelier Plus games.

  • What are some other Visual Novels with English translation that are available for the Vita/PS3 (other than Persona 4: Golden and Virtue’s Last Reward)

    So far loving Danganronpa!

  • There are some cool characters there…Byakuya Togami looks nice….is there a option for Japanese voice ?….english sounds horrible. Also that black and white bear….was him based on Kon from Bleach?…

  • Just received this before work, excited to play it when I get home.

  • I am so so so satisfied with this game. In my opinion, this and Persona 4 Golden are probably the best things to come to the Vita. I hope that this game gets big enough that NIS decides to bring over Dangan Ronpa 2, because in my opinion, the gameplay, story, and characters are all very much improved on in the sequel, and that’s saying a lot considering this game is already near perfect.

  • Looks nice but i have it has subs

  • @39: yes there’s Japanese audio. NISA always provides it

  • I Loved the game on the psp and to have the opportunity to play it again on the Vita is just awesome. I would definitively love if they would release psn avatars of Danganronpa that would be the greatest!
