Spring Fever 2014

Hi everyone! Spring is here (even if Mother Nature hasn’t quite realized that yet) and that means one thing: it’s time for our annual Spring Fever promotion. I’m super excited to announce that this year’s event will bring new indie titles to both PS3 and PS4.

Just like last year’s Spring Fever promotion, over the next four weeks we are championing indie developers who are bringing new and exciting experiences to the PlayStation platforms and giving PS Plus members 20 % off each title during each game’s launch week. The Spring Fever lineup features titles from stellar indie developers and I think it is safe to say that this year’s lineup rivals (and maybe even surpasses) that of 2013.

Here is this year’s Spring Fever line-up:

Launch Week Title PS Plus Launch Week Price Regular Price
3/4 to 3/10 Awesomenauts Assemble (PS4) $7.99 $9.99

Activision MUST have an internal mandate about keeping their digital games priced high. The sale prices for the Call of Duty titles, even for PS+ members, are pretty laughable.

$18 for Modern Warfare 1 or 2, for example, despite the fact that each game can be purchased used for around $5 from GameStop.

Modern Warfare 3 is $27 here, but available used for about $10.

Black Ops I and II bundled together is $63. GameStop has a bundle with those games plus MW3 for around $45.

The included DLC with the digital copies doesn’t come close to covering the difference.

Note to Activision: Digital copies are only a good value proposition if they’re cheaper than the physical games, because you can resell physical products secondhand, but you keep digital goods only as long as you have an active account. This sort of pricing keeps gamers like myself away from buying digital copies of your games and encourages us to check Amazon. Half.com and GameStop for secondhand copies.

At this point in the lifecycle, your focus should be on selling DLC, not creating barriers to entry. Make the core games cheap and you will sell a lot more DLC as a result during these sorts of sales.

And probably Europe will get r*ped again and will pay the same in Euro as USA does in USD, and we won’t get Spring Fever sale with PS+ deal on FEZ either I bet.

Sigh. That 9.99 USD or around 6 Euro when converted for FEZ, bet I’ll have to pay 14.99 Euro.

Pretty dissapointing that towerfall won’t have online multiplayer. Glad to see luftrausers finally coming out- I’ve been waiting for this one for awhile. Hopefully vlambeer wrap up development on nuclear throne soon (it seems to be far along from what I’ve played on pc) so we can have it on our Vita’s!

Hello Chieh.
So it looks like you’re going to be one of our new “Person that delivers good news of a sale” people right?

I just need you to tell Blitworks (Fez port studio?) that I hope they are setting a new standard from games and their distribution in the future. Also, tell them I ran out of money. But I’ll still some way to buy Fez.

@zekececil14 I wish ! they aren’t even close to steam sales. 8-10 Different Steam Tomb Raider Games INCLUDING CHRONICLES & Angel of Darkness ( PS Store = Fail and doesnt have ) for under $30. If I hadnt just spent $215 on a new ps3 at christmas , I would be one of many to cross over to Steam PC Games.

Man, I gotta say I’m really surprised that Sony is having another games sale right after having their Vita Anniversary and the other big sale just last week. It’s a great surprise though! I will definitely take advantage of the Need for Speed sale and pick up Hot Pursuit, The Run, and Most Wanted. I’m thinking about picking up Fez, Steamworld Dig, and Luftrausers for Vita as well, but I usually wait for an even bigger sale for my Vita games (big backlog I’m fighting through right now). I will probably also pick up some of the Bioshock Infinite DLC at the end of the month. Thanks Sony!

Bleh, another Call of Duty sale and still nothing on the original Black Ops DLC. I’ve been waiting for a sale on Escalation and Annihilation for like 2 years now. Looks like Activision doesn’t care about older COD games anymore when the latest one of the year is out. Pretty sure it’s not Sony’s fault as Activision decides to do sales on COD or not. Might as well buy the Black Ops II Season Pass anyway. I bet next year that they won’t do sales on Black Ops II DLC anymore and focus on Ghosts DLC instead. Wouldn’t be surprised since they abandoned the other CODs after a year it released.

For those in the know, what does this mean?

3/25 to 3/31
Fez (PS4, PS Vita)** $9.99 $12.99
Fez (PS3, PS Vita)** $9.99 $12.99

As in, it’s noted as cross-buy between all 3 platforms, and the price is the same, is it intentionally listed twice? It’s just that the other sections have 2 games each, and this one is listed as PS4/Vita and PS3/Vita when it could really just be listed once as PS4/PS3/Vita, not sure if it’s a typo or not and there’s supposed to be another game in one of those spots instead.

Spring Fever is a four week event where we will be launching one new PS4 and PS3 title each week alongside a top franchise sale. In the first three weeks of the event, the PS4 and PS3 titles launching are different, but on week four, Fez is listed twice because it will be the featured title for both the PS4 and PS3. We just wanted to be clear that we will have great titles on both PS4 and PS3 each week of the event. Hope that helps!

@12, Jeo- Yeah, the devs of Awesomnauts reportedly had funding issues approx. 6 months ago. For anyone interested, def. wait until they have the capability to support their releases before jumping.

To be fair, patching games on consoles do cost $$- still, alienating fans/buyers will only affect the attachrate of current + future projects…

Since I ranted too much about Activision and their poor support on older Call of Duty titles, I’ll also be picking up Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars as well so I can finish up my digital PSP collection that’s at least 42 games on my memory card. Was not disappointed with The Warriors and Brothers in Arms: D-Day. If only Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars gets a sale as well…

@Galeforce99 That subscription that you call “stupid” can give you free games, bigger discounts on sales (Which FEZ isn’t one) and cloud storage for game saves. I think what’s more stupid is your brain. Troll harder.

I actually didn’t notice it was one PS4 and one PS3 in each of the weeks, I don’t pay much attention to platform in the blog posts since I have both as well as a Vita, and I tend to just figure out where a game needs to be played when I go to download it. ;)

i personally have to say that i am so sick of indie games. i grew up in the 80′s so why would i want to play or pay for crap that looks like it is 30 years old. i wish people would stop supporting these games. if you want to play this crap play pac man or galaga. or better yet break out some crayons and do something better with your time. as far as the sales go yeah nothing for me since it will end up in the igc before too long. i personally think the igc will hurt companies in the long run. i will never buy another little big planet, bioshock, or borderland due the fact that they all end up in the igc. who ever decides what goes into the igc should really think about trying to mix up what is offered. i just hope that they don’t start giving away nothing but indie games.

ORLY?

Picking up NFS: Most Wanted when the store updates. Or maybe much later, like the next day. Since impatient people are constantly impulse buying things before the store fully updates and then being charged full price. -_-

Reminder: The store usually updates by 2pm PST (Pacific Standard Time, US, GMT -8). But even by then some items may not be fully ready. If something is listed in the store for more than it’s supposed to be…you WILL be charged the price you see. Do not click “confirm purchase” if the price is wrong.

@TAWCOOOOKIE: I’ll grant you that it’s a bit silly to have a cheaper sale a few weeks later, but they do this all the time. Those who wait for 3/18 will save an additional $2.50. Those who bought it during the current sale will own Vice City for a price they were willing to pay.

But $6.99 isn’t the regular price; it’s the non-Plus sale price. It probably has a yellow (Plus-colored) line through it, right? They’re just reminding you what you would be paying without Plus, just as they remind those without Plus what the non-sale prices are.
