HBO GO Hits PS3 Starting Today

Phil Rosenberg's Avatar Posted by on Mar 04, 2014 // Senior Vice President, Business Development, SCEA

In January, HBO CEO Richard Plepler announced that the popular HBO GO app would be coming to PlayStation 3. We know you’ve been patiently waiting and today I’m excited to announce that HBO GO will be available for PS3 owners starting later today.

HBO Go PS3 app

Watch every episode of every season of the HBO’s best shows, including True Detective, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. Speaking of Game of Thrones, with the season 4 premiere airing on April 6th, you’ve got more than a month to get caught up on the first three amazing seasons. If you haven’t seen the latest season 4 trailer, click here to check it out.

We are also working diligently with HBO to bring the HBO GO app to PS4. Keep checking PlayStation.Blog for updates.

What HBO show are you most looking forward to watching on your PS3? Let us know in the comments below.

Is there any chance of this coming to the Vita as well?

Thank you so much! You’ve made my day! Now where to begin….True Detective? The Wire? The Sopranos? Choices, choices…

Can’t wait for the PS4 version !!!!

+ mrbiggbrain on March 4th, 2014 at 6:47 am said:

@5 i believe its just part of your existing HBO subscription. they don’t offer it separate. But correct me if I’m wrong.

Awesome news, been waiting forever for HBO Go. Hopefully PS4 version comes before Game of Thrones next month

+ johnnyp70 on March 4th, 2014 at 7:09 am said:

mrbigbrain is correct-HBO Go is not a la carte. It is tethered to a cable subscription. Those looking for the gems-if you have the time, I would start with The Wire or The Sopranos, then Game of Thrones & Boardwalk Empire. I cannot speak to True Detective, because I am waiting to binge on that one. Comedy-Curb Your Enthusiasm is brilliant if you enjoyed Seinfeld. Entourage was a guilty pleasure for me-you can turn your brain off and just laugh.

Year Made! Sopranos ReWatch, Commence.

+ samv33 on March 4th, 2014 at 7:34 am said:

This is good news. Thanks.

I am sure you share our desire to have it on the Vita. Is that a possibility?

And I must be the only one who doesn’t care much for True Detective. I’ve tried watching it twice now, and it just doesn’t hook me. I like the conceit of it though.

+ mastorofpuppetz on March 4th, 2014 at 7:34 am said:

Not on ps4…ridiculous. Still no you tube either, is sony trying to sabotage ps4’s momentum?

The Wire is the best TV show ever produced.

Looking forward to finishing Deadwood on my TV instead of a laptop! As the others have stated, the PS4 version should be a top priority as well. My PS3 is hooked up to a smaller TV while the PS4, being the new flagship, is hooked up to my 65″!

Any news on a PS4 version? I really want to watch some true detective.

+ ZeeGeeEmm on March 4th, 2014 at 8:00 am said:

Can’t wait to get it on my PS4! My PS3 is connected to my computer monitor, so I don’t see myself using that version.

+ Teraclips on March 4th, 2014 at 8:01 am said:

sweet, waiting for PS4 version myself.

it would be nice if you guys could bring an app for the Champions League and Barclays Premier League, doesnt matter a pay-per-view kind of thing i would sub for the whole season

HBO GO on PS4 before the new GoT season please?

Thanks for PS3 at least!

+ Crunchewy on March 4th, 2014 at 8:24 am said:

If and when HBO decides to start streaming without need of cable TV, I’ll be interested. That day is coming, I’m sure. They are losing subscribers while Netflix is gaining. They can’t stay cable-dependent forever.

+ rjejr on March 4th, 2014 at 8:38 am said:

Wow, that was kind of an out of the blue day of announcement, I assumed this would be dragged out bit by bit leading up to GoT in April so HBO could keep advertising.

So, anybody have a link explaining what we get w/ the PS3 version as far as audio and sound? SD, HD, stereo, 5.1?

I know we need an HBO subscription but do we need PS+ or anything else? My cable company charges $4.95 per month for HBO On Demand in addition to the standard HBO $14.95 charge.

Great news but a little light on specifics.

+ yowzagabowza on March 4th, 2014 at 8:46 am said:

God, u guys are ridiculous. Announcing the release date ON the release date? What, did u just find out today? And how about ANY info, other than its coming today? I swear, the blog is a useless, amature mess.

*cough* don’t forget about us chaps on the little island across the pond…

+ GaMeR_bOi_83 on March 4th, 2014 at 9:01 am said:

@25 no you don’t need PS+ to use this service. That’s Xbox Live that needs gold to even use the web browser. Just need a cable subscription and your set. Now HD and 5.1 I can’t help you there.

When is later?

This app should be purchasable without an HBO subscription.

+ gohan16ken on March 4th, 2014 at 10:55 am said:

The HBO is available now. But it does not work with Comcast.

+ uptownsoul on March 4th, 2014 at 11:09 am said:

Yup @gohan16ken Looks like the biggest cable provider yet again caught with its pants down

+ Kraft on March 4th, 2014 at 11:11 am said:

Any idea when it will come available in Europe?

+ gekko1986 on March 4th, 2014 at 11:22 am said:

After waiting all this time and now I can’t use it because Comcast isn’t supporting it.

+ poeticsutra on March 4th, 2014 at 11:36 am said:

@Reignfall21 It should be free as long as use currently are an subscriber to HBO. All you have to do is select your cable provider and enter you login info. I am sure that is how they would do it that is usually the normal protocol.

I live in Latin America and even though my account is set to the US you can´t watch Amazon instant video, Hulu, etc. only netflix and the library is very limited which is really really frustrating

+ tusunami on March 4th, 2014 at 12:20 pm said:

Well and here it is for all those that have been crying for this app. Patience is a virtue

+ Ryumoau on March 4th, 2014 at 12:21 pm said:

Will this be a seperate service app like Netflix, Hulu, and WWE Network? Or will it require some stupic cable subscription? If its the latter, thats a terrible business move.

You would get alot more subscribers from letting us get the streaming app on its own. WWE wasn’t afraid to bypass cable for their network, so i can’t believe you guys at HBO can’t do it either.

Why isn’t the SEN Add to Cart bug being acknowleged? This has been going on for weeks. Sony isn’t even responding to all of our requests and inquiries. Chat and Phone support gives me the run-around. I missed the burnout paradise legendary cars dlc and now I’m missing these ps+ IGC games. I’m a paying ps+ member and it’s about time that Sony address the Add to Cart issue. Clearing cache and different web browsers isn’t helping for a lot of us.
