PlayStation Plus: Lone Survivor: Director’s Cut Free for Members

Kristine Steimer's Avatar + Posted by Kristine Steimer on Mar 10, 2014 // Sr. Community Specialist

It’s easy to look at Lone Survivor’s art style and think it’s not going to scare you, but this game is legitimately freaky. You’ll take the role of a creeptastic guy attempting to survive in a city overrun by disease, which apparently turns you into a nasty walking ball of fleshy bits. Given the scarcity of ammo, you’ll likely be focused on hiding from the flesh monsters roaming the world versus conducting constant head-on assaults. The story unfolds based on your choices throughout the game and there are multiple endings to discover as a result. The final bonus is that this title is Cross-Buy, so PlayStation Plus members will receive both the PS3 and PS Vita versions of the game.

The Spring Fever sale continues this week with day 1 discounts on Towerfall Ascension and Vessel. The franchise portion of the sale this week focuses on Call of Duty, so check out all of the discounted bundles below.

You can download Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut after the PlayStation Store updates tomorrow, 3/11.

Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut (PS3)

Free for PS Plus members

Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut
In this psychological survival adventure, the masked protagonist must escape from a city ravaged by disease, by any means necessary. Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut is a new kind of adventure where the choice of how to survive is up to you. Sneak through without firing a single shot, or kill everything in your path. Eat and sleep well, or resort to drugs to keep going. Search for survivors, or try to escape the city alone. Look after your mental health, or descend into madness. Lone Survivor is a game where your choices genuinely matter.

…so perhaps if those sort start leaving, that stereotype can thin just a little bit. Nobody’s stopping you, there’s the door… you have just as much power to choose to do that, as you have the power to choose to follow the saying, “if you have nothing positive/nice to say, don’t say anything at all”. Your loss, not anybody else’s really. *shrugs*

PS – Yes, PS+ may cost $49.99 for the year… there’ve already been at least one of two months, where just by the prices of the IGC games for that month, they’ve exceeded the total of $50, in one month alone… where for 12 months you get even more IGC games.

@steveamro – So to translate what you’re saying… they can be prompt, punctual, even friendly and professional the overall majority of your time with PS Plus… but because they’re late the one time on a chincy $12 game that you probably wouldn’t have batted an eyelash at otherwise, you’re bitter, petty, and now are justified in not regretting to renew… because the ONE time there was actual technical issues. (Wow, so glad I have the ability to block… bye now.)

If we pay for a service, some of us for years being loyal Sony supporters, what’s so wrong to expect a little communication here and there. Personally, I’m not so mad at the lack of an update 2 days after the schedule, but at the lack of communication on their part. It’s not a bad thing to expect some TINY consideration (seriously, how long does it take to post a blog message/comment? you can do it from a mobile phone ffs) when you pay money for something on top of what you’ve already shelled out in terms of the system, games, etc.

We aren’t asking for the Head Rep of Sony to give a press release with a full explanation along with compensation. Just a heads up, “Hey guys, sorry it’s taking so long, we’re having trouble with ******, but we’ll get back to you soon!”. I don’t want blood.

^ They have, granted on Twitter, but if you read through the comments, many have been copying/pasting the updates and notifications for others to see here. It is after all the internet/world-wide-web… and granted, they could update the users… but I’d rather them spend the time to work on it and get it done sooner, than having to take the time to update Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, playstation.com, notices directly on PSN, sony.com, etc, etc, and so forth. People can be upset they don’t update here — but honestly, who’s to say people on Twitter, their Facebook page, or some Myspace page might not demand attention there too, just continually increasing the laundry list of “people who *deserve* updates”.

I highly doubt the person keeping everyone posted is also involved in the development of the update. It’s a chain of people, I’m almost positive it wouldn’t be taking someone out of their workforce, but I do see your point.

I can’t believe I had to wait two extra days for this piece of pixellated trash. Completely unplayable. Next time hire an artist and add maybe a FEW more lines of pixel resolution?

Hi guys, thanks! Lone Survivor its a great game, loving it.

Nobody died because 2 days, in the end the Lone Survivor cames free for Vita too and the Twitter team always informed about the delay. But i have and advice: Please, inform here too about any delays that may occur, this feedback is great.

Pixellated trash? This is a masterpiece imo. An 8bit game has NEVER made me jump before.

Not impressed at all, what were the reasons of the delay !?

LoneSurvivor = Silent hill in 8bits. If you like silent hill, you’ll like lone survivor.

8-bit trash? now that’s just non-sense. This game is a master piece with classic horror and surviving. when i got Lone Survivor i thought it was just going to be another 8-bit game but i got to say…. i have never jumped from a 8-bit game and i played NES games and other 8-bit so called “scary games” but this one wins the cake. and by cake i mean a huge slice of cake lol :)

Lone Survivor is so bad…. There’s no way it is what you people are claiming…. I’ve played it for 3 hours now and I don’t get the whole idea of it being “scary”.. not to mention that it’s just purely annoying trying to remember where you’ve already been…
Definitely one of the not so good Plus games in awhile.. hopefully the Thomas Is Not Alone game is better. I won’t judge until I’ve tried.

funkyone technically we pay for access to these games, er go imho they are not free. we have the right to know whats going on, or at least we should. its nothing to not renew over good grief, but they should make it right.

im not far in but lone survivor is great. the pixels could be cleared a bit tho. not much scares me but running low on real food has me on edge. your supposed to immerse yourself, you ARE the lone survivor or perhaps you think you are alone… one mans “trash” is another mans treasure. gamers need to enjoy old and new imho, not just get hooked on all the eye candy out there. best wishes all.:)

Lone Survivor is amazing :D

I don’t regret paying for it last year(though it was on sale)

I hope they make a 2nd game or at least a similar one in the near future ^^

Just snagged Lone Survivor, and I can’t even play it. I select the game, the screen goes black, then it goes back to the XMB and gives me “an error occurred during the start operation. (80010017)”. I tried deleting it and re-downloading it, but it still gives me the message. Not so great for my first PS+ free game :/ any ideas? I tried to find something about it, but nothing.
