It’s GDC week! This is one of the best weeks of the year, and we’re happy to have some PS4 news for you! CastleStorm — Definitive Edition and KickBeat — Special Edition are both coming this Spring to PS4! We can’t wait to bring these super genre mashups to next-gen (Or is it current-gen, now?).

If you haven’t played CastleStorm before, then you’re in for a treat! CastleStorm — Definitive Edition is a hilarious mix of medieval warfare, 2D physics-based destruction, tower defense, and some melee brawler action thrown in. It also features a story-driven, solo campaign, a custom castle editor, online multiplayer, co-op modes, and more.

KickBeat — Special Edition is a crazy, kung-fu themed rhythm fighter. We are adding a bunch of new features, additional soundtracks, and other enhancements are being added to the original campaign. The game offers players several innovative ways to interact with music, and combines beat-matching mechanics with an acrobatic style of martial arts, turning every song into a raucous battle. The game features a music analyzer that allows players to create new tracks from their own music libraries.

I’ll be back with more details on features and pricing once we’ve confirmed our release dates. I’ll be running around GDC, but I’ll try to answer your questions as soon as possible!

    Oh yea!? Wow… Any word on mp3 or music file support in general? Sorry not trying to be ‘that guy’ but it should be considered an industry standard at this point.

    My vita and ps3 can hold mp3s, why not ps4, I thought custom soundtracks would be right up there with crossgame chat?

    Is CastleStorm going to have touch pad support? The PS3 version has terrible archery controls. Come to think of it, touchpad won’t help (it works on Vita cos it’s a touch screen, not just touch pad). The aiming mechanics needs to be improved, cos trying to hold a stick steady to aim in the desired direction just doesn’t work (think Hungry Birds, where you move a dotted trajectory line), not to mention the high sensitivity. How about just moving a recticle with the stick and point directly at where you want to shoot at, simple as that (too easy perhaps)?

    And yes, will it be cross-buy and free to those who already bought the PS3 or Vita version (like Flower and Flow)?

    Castlestorm is great on the Vita. Not sure I will pay for it again on the PS4. Hopefully it’s cross-buy. If you haven’t bought it yet, then give it a try on the PS4 as it is a great game.

    I know its cool to have good ps3 games redone for ps4 but im sittin here with a ps4 that ive bought all the games in my genre of games i like to play and you guys keep throwing these 8 bit 16 bit old school looking games at us that i could care less about playing i bought ps4 to play visually impressive next gen games so as of now my ps4 is being used mostly for messaging and surfing webpages. I think its a little lame that sony didnt have more games and bigger variety of next gen games ready to be sold for us to play im a kind of mainstream gamer indie games seem to be popular with the gamers that spend all their time on their consoles and who write you and are fanatics but the majority like me dont get excited about a game like castlestorm coming to ps4 now i know there are over 100 new titles supposedly coming out this year but im still pissed at the lack of next gen games and digital pricing really makesmy blood boil microsoft went down on theirs its like this cod black ops 2 regular price b4 this week was still 59.99 its 39.99 in stores you can find ps3 games on ps store that are 50.00 but in stores they are retail no sales 20 bucks there are many pricing issues like that just wanted to say something

    $5 says you’ll have to pay for the games since they are calling them *Definitive Edition* this is just another money grab. Next gen my ass. The PS4 is slowly becoming the go to place for the left over last gen shovel ware! Its getting to be like the wii around here!!!

    @vongruetz, PS4 still doesn’t have much. These are “current-gen” ports, heck the poster even makes a laugh at it. These need to stay on PS3 and Vita, if you want to bring them to PS4, get PS Now rolling and put them on that service. No problem with that, just personally tired of these ports when I want real next gen games. Luckily Infamous SS drops this week!

    You really need to make the original PS4 compatible, or offer it free.

    If not, it will be the last game I puchase from your company.

    We all could use more money, but I spent mine investing in your work.
    If you choose to ignore the buyer, why coninue investing on a game that was slightly amusing at best.

    Esecially for those that paid full price.

    Anyway.

    Surprised to see KickBeat coming to PS4. One of the best unique game made by you guys!

    However, I have a question. How is the “Beat Your Music” mode going to work if the PS4 has no mp3 support? I hope there is some way around it if you can’t use your mp3s. Would be nice if it’s cross buy as well, but I don’t mind if it isn’t since I don’t have a PS4 yet and I’m getting the Steam Edition since I have a big mp3 collection for that.

    So this seems to be the trend now even indie games are getting the definitive treatment as well.I hope there won’t be a massive influx of this idea. New fresh experiences are where it’s at even for the PS Vita.

    I agree with Kedaro. There should be support for Mp3, video and photo. Since it has camera, it is nice to capture moments at home and make your own gallery collection rather than having all game clips and screenshot…

    Kick beat is a very fun game and I have it on Vita and PS3, and will get it for Ps4 as well. My concern though is that PS4 doesn’t allow you to import any kind of media for music, so beat your music doesn’t seem like an option unless it works with music unlimited

    CASTLE STORM is a pretty fun game, but I just bought it for the PS3. I’m guessing it was no coincidence that it went on sale a week before the news of this. I would much rather play it on my PS4 instead.

    If you could at least work out a 50% Cross-Discount like Farsight has done with The Pinballl Arcade I would probably buy it again for that platform.

    Also, SONY… Please fix your “Mobile Theme” version for this page so it shows comments. It’s been switched off for about 3 years now and it extremely POINTLESS” to no include the option to read or write comments. Thanks!

    I hope that the PS4 port of CASTLE STORM will support 3D like the PS3.

    The PS4 will then have three games in 3D
    Trine & Zen Pinball are the other two.
