Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster Out Today on PS3, PS Vita

We’re coming to you today to let you know that Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster is available to pick up and take home now on both PS3 and PS Vita, bringing two classic RPGs to the modern age. Whether Final Fantasy X was one of your favorite games back on the PS2, or you never got a chance to try it, there’s never been a better time to play.

The HD Remasters of both games are feature complete with all the International Edition content that never got released here in North America, and now they take advantage of all the neat stuff PlayStation consoles offer. You’ve got some major Trophy hunting to do, and the two versions feature cross save compatibility with each other, so if you’ve got both, you never have to be without your game. The music is completely remastered, there’s a bonus audio drama… This is truly the definitive version of both games!

We had a lot of great pre-order bonuses going, and while that window has passed, I can say that there are still very limited quantities of the Collector’s Edition in stock, but they won’t last long. The Collector’s Edition comes with a beautiful 40 page art book, five full-sized lithograph prints, and the Final Fantasy X HD Remaster Blu-ray Soundtrack, which has over six hours of music from the game and the MP3 files available on the disc. The soundtrack alone retails for $59.99, so $79.99 for that plus the game and art book is a pretty good deal by my math.

Finally, near and dear to my heart is the Final Fantasy X | X-2 Art Gallery Exhibition, running now through March 26th at the Gallery Nucleus here in Southern California. If you’re not local to the area, all of the art from the show is currently on auction. These prints are all one of one, and come with a certificate of authenticity signed by Producer Yoshinori Kitase. They will never be reproduced, and a few pieces are even original art by the development staff, including Art Director Yusuke Naora and Character Designer Tetsuya Nomura. All the proceeds from this art will be donated to the Typhoon Haiyan relief effort, so please consider bidding. We’ll ship anywhere in the world.

I’ll end this blog on a personal note to say that it’s been a blast working on Final Fantasy X, a game that I sunk more than 200 happy hours into and never regretted one of them. Not even when a friend saved over my game and I had to start over.

Tidus opens the game with the line, “Listen to my story. This may be our last chance.” So tell us your Final Fantasy X story in the comments. We’d love to hear it!

  • Nevermind, lol.

  • BTW the problem with the X-2 download codes is not that the store isn’t finished updating, it’s that these codes were set to expire today (the release date) for some idiotic reason [this is per Sony phone support]. That’s probably why some people were able to redeem their codes earlier since they did it before the store started updating.

  • That is rather bonehead-ish of them…sigh.

  • It worked for me now.

  • If i buy it from PSN would i be able to play it on both the PS3 and Vita?

  • Probably not as they are two separate platforms. You will have to pay for each separately.

  • oh ****.. cos it worked for most games like Flowers, flo, and other stuff all i do is log in to my ps3 or vita and go to downloads and its there. you think thatd work?

  • So has the downlowd problem fixed itself for the vita?

  • If you are talking about the redemption code for FFX-2 when you buy the FFX game card, then yes. It just worked for me not that long ago.

  • Thanks a lot man. I have been so hyped about finally being able to play the international version. It is a whole new game to me.

  • i hope square enix considers releasing the orginal soundtrack as DLC for the remastered game ;D i know i would buy it!!
it’ll be great if we could switch between the original and remastered tracks.

  • i can see a lot of people discussing in here xD clearly FFX is more popular than FFXIII

  • Will it be coming out for PS4??

  • this is fantastic i’ve been waiting years for this game, ever since the HD remake was announced.
thank you for releasing it digital i love digital games.

  • So, no release date for the PS4? This is madness.

  • When can us Aussie players download this epic masterpiece? It’s just hit the day it says the download can commence, and… Nothing, nothing is happening :'(
    Anybody know? :)

  • Ya descarge ambos juegos. Al que le interese, la version USA tiene subtitulos en español.

  • You might be able to play it on the PS4 at a later via Gaikai. Gaikai is a streaming service that Sony acquired back in 2012. Sony intends to use this service as a sort of backwards compatibility for the PS4, allowing you to play PS1, PS2, and PS3 games on it via streaming. So you may be able to play the PS3 version of FFX and FFX-2 (if that’s your taste) on your PS4 in the near future. It all depends when Sony finalizes the service.

  • Will this be downloadable and playable on a ps4? i just left the xbox world.. and am not going to go buy a ps3 to play old content

  • one question, how do i link my PS3 account to SQUAREENIX https://membership.square-enix.com/account_links , it doesnt allow me to link.

  • What the Hel, why can’t I play it. Such an anticipated release you’d think it could be playable as soon as it’s released… Why could I download it if I can’t play it?

  • i remember the first time i battled seymour and won it felt great!!
but after battling him more than once it got annoying xD

  • Are we going to be able to play it today?

  • @Syldan13 sure you can play it!! didn’t you download it?

  • @ToFeY, yeah, downloaded last night, it’s all set to go but no worky…

Here’s the message I get when I try to run it
“This application has not yet reached it’s start date and is not available yet.”

On PSN it says it will be available on 20th March… It’s nearly 5PM on the 20th and still no go, not happy, on top of that, it’s charged me $54.95 instead of $49.95.

  • I called up the Playstation company Syldan13 and the dude said we will be able to transfer it to vita from ps3 / play the game at 12:01am 21/3/14 AEST :(

  • It’s just a pain to have preordered it and have downloaded already and still not be able to play it on the official release date, not feeling the love.

  • When is it coming to the PS4?! >..<

  • Damn still waiting… Bought the CE on Square Enix website, in early Feb. and have yet to get it.

  • I still have my ps2 and ffx , so i’ll just play that, i did pre order the ps3 hd remastered ver. But tbh it really doesnt look any different. Too bad it isn’t a ps4 release, and anyway why can’t we have a ff 7 hd remake? It’s really all everyone wants.

  • Someone should let Square know that there’s still japanese audio in FFX-2, specifically in battle. I’ll give an example, I have Yuna as a gunner, Rikku a s a warrior, and Paine as a black mage. I’m on the high road. I get into a battle with Fly Eye, and Yuna just blurts out something along the lines of “Sen kaiden ikuyo”, almost inquisitively. I hope they made this game patchable.

  • @Tempus_Fugit86 The reason they can’t remake ff7 so easily, is that they’d have to rebuild it from the ground up. We’re talking from scratch, base coding, new engine, everything. They haven’t been releasing remakes, they’ve been releasing remastered, which is different. Also, they are different, in that there’s more content, etc. FFx-2 you can actually capture monsters from a menu on the Celcius (it’s kinda complicated), and from there, you can have them in your party. I tell ya, nothing more fun than putting a protochimera in your party on the thunder plains…. even better when he knows flametongue, aqua breath, and assault.

  • Wow after playing Final Fantasy X HD, the memories!!!

Even after more than 10 years since i last played it, I still remember all the parts, what cutscenes comes up next if it’s CGI or not, same English dialogue(which looking back, there were definitely some issues now that i think about it)

But the world, characters, gameplay, wow this is just excellent stuff!!

And the music!! While i still prefer the original compared to the remaster, it’s definitely good so far. Though i heard the battle theme and it’s not as good as the original :\

Still I can see why this series became my favorite FF Game of all time!!

  • You can download the wallpapers here around the download section!!

Can’t believe the the US version has tons of wallpapers and JPN only has one!?!?!

Here’s some sample wallpaper directly from Square Enix themselves :)

There’s a lot of different sizes so go download whatever size you want.

I’m gonna put this on my PS3 as my custom wallpaper!! Shame PS4 doesn’t have that nor MP3 playback or custom pics.

  • The only “flaws” i can think of is:

Lack of toggle option to the original music: Probably my biggest pet peeve. The original arrangements are amazing! Why not offer an option to use it as well?? Surely BD has enough space to hold it, if not just let us buy it via DLC.

Loading times: Their not long, but i don’t remember FFX having too many loading times. Still understandably since this is in HD.

Dual Audio: While i could just buy the JPN version, I read online that the JPN version allows you to switch the ENG or JPN voices(but not subs i think)

So why the hell didn’t Square Enix took this advantage?? Even if it’s DLC i don’t mind paying for it!

  • They should have also added some Dissidia costumes as added bonuses

especially the original Amano art like White Yuna or even the wedding dress and the stylized Tidus art is soo good!!

Also no Gallery mode so we could watch the cutscenes all in one go? I know there’s a stadium in FFX to do that(forgot if FFX-2 had one) but it would be convenient to put them on the main menu so we don’t have to load any save or something.

Still the game is amazing as hell! for $39.99 your getting a lot of your money’s worth! Even more so with the Collector’s edition that includes some litographs and the full HD remaster OST!

    Long Live Final Fantasy X | X-2!!!!!

  • Also got my Collector’s Edition :D

Gorgeous as hell!! Might buy the LE as well for collection XD

  • I want a PS4 version, please! The lack of backwards compatibility on the PS4 kind of discourages me from buying PS3 formatted software.
