Killzone Mercenary Botzone Out Today on PS Vita

UPDATE: Due to unforeseen processing issues, the Killzone Mercenary Botzone Soldier Training Pack has been delayed until this evening (4/15). Content should be available by 8pm PT. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Killzone Mercenary: Botzone Soldier Training Pack

A few weeks ago we added two classic Killzone multiplayer maps to Killzone Mercenary. Since then we’ve been working on adding more to Killzone Mercenary, and finally it’s here on PS Vita. We’re very pleased to announce the release of our latest update for Killzone Mercenary, delivering an offline multiplayer experience to our 8 maps.

With the purchase of the Botzone Soldier Training Pack, all of our multiplayer maps can be played offline in Mercenary or Guerrilla Warfare modes, against up to 7 AI soldiers. As the game host, you’ll have control over the number of teammates and enemies joining you in battle.

In team modes, you have the luxury of picking your compatriots and foes: play with 3 against 1 for a quick kill, or go brave and take on an entire team of bots alone. Your choice, soldier!

Killzone Mercenary Botzone brings new skills to the series’ traditionally strong AI bot experience: Vanguard usage, zip line navigation, interrogations, rescues, capsule hacking, and valour card collection are all behaviors unique to the game and our AI is going to challenge you with all of them. Not only that, but our cunning bots will also be using many of the game’s diverse loadouts to stop you in your tracks.

And it doesn’t stop there; you’ll have the chance to collect some of those harder-to-obtain multiplayer trophies in an offline arena — provided your skills are up to the challenge, of course!

Finally, we’ve also taken opportunity with this update to fix up some longer standing collision issues reported in the multiplayer maps. As such, the update will be mandatory for anyone wishing to play online multiplayer, with 23 MB required on the memory card to download it (549 MB if you’ve not downloaded our previous updates).

Today, the title update will be made available for download, and the Botzone Soldier Training Pack will also be available for purchase from PlayStation Store. The Botzone Soldier Training Pack will be required in order to unlock the in-game Botzone menu.

Happy fragging, and enjoy your training!

  • Great News! One Question… I Have Recently Noticed A Hacker In The Multiplayer Mode. Are You Going To Come Out With A Way Of Keeping Hackers Out Of The Game?

  • Whoo hoo!!!!

Will this include ad-hoc support for multiplayer? Would love to get some games going in my office with a few friends and some bots.

  • You had me unti “purchase”, I don’t think we have to pay for bots

  • Thank you for the ability to earn MP trophies offline. I loved the campaign, did 100% everything. So, this is great news.

  • A MILLION times YES!
Botzones in Killzone are one of my favorite things cuz the Multiplayer components of the games are excellent and it would be an incredible sadness not to be able to experience them after the inevitable server shurdowns.
    Thank you Guerilla!

  • Sigh, make more maps as priced DLC and i will buy,
make more multiplayer game modes and i will buy
but i will not pay for Bot mode.

Don’t let the game die with this “EA” attitudes

  • Wasn’t this announced as free along with the maps? or did i read into that when the original press release (for the extra content) was announced.

In any case, sounds good. I assumed this content was complementary though.

Good job, and enjoy (to those who purchase this).

  • Wow you guys really know how to keep supporting the best portable fps ever created. Please sony bring Resistance back to greatness as well.

  • Good! I am waiting for it a long time! But, i wonder ad-hoc function will be included in this update. Ad-hoc in killzone would be awesome!!!!!

  • This is a realy fantastic and a great support, I bought this day one as PSN download but I had my doubts and fear the game would be laggy ‘n lose support such some of the other games

but I was thankfully wrong :D

    Keep the support coming

and please encourage the team working at porting Bordelands 2 to vita to keep polishing and improving the game even after release or worse after poor reviews of a release.

    Good luck :)

  • Still the overall best KZ game yet: campaign is the best in the series, and MP is very fun and addictive. Much like my Vita purchase, I paid full price for this game on day one, and don’t regret it for even a second.

Thanks for making the best handheld FPS ever, as well as one of the best handheld games ever. Long live the Vita!

  • Praise the Sun to you for enabling trophies!

  • This is great news, and I’m excited to download it. There was a mistaken PS Store update a couple of weeks ago that showed the botzone costing $2.50 I think. That seems pretty reasonable to now be able to play the multiplayer game on the go without being online. Not too shabby.

I wonder if there will be any more updates for this game or if this is the last one. I can’t complain, it’s been a lot of fun, but if there is enough interest for them to make a couple more multiplayer maps that would be even better. Or just start making Mercenary 2!

  • gorilla is for the fans this is how you do mp and get your money worth/ Thank you, I hope other mp game do the same, better yet gaming devs follow this suit..

  • Pay for bots, I think this game should have came with bots but if its less than 5 bucks I will buy it

  • I’ve been looking forward to this because I have never be able to connect to an online game in Killlzone Mercenary. I have never had any problems playing online with my other Vita & PS3 titles so I had basically given up on the multiplayer for this game. I just don’t remember reading that this mode was going to be an extra fee.

  • This is awesome! Thanks so much for doing this!

  • I still thinking about getting this game for my VITA but i already have COD and Resistance – which i might add are very fun and smooth on the VITA..i really wish KILLZONE on the PS4 wouldve grab the idea from TITAN FALL but no they decided to go with the same ol same gameplay..SMH..im very dissapointed in Gurrella for that. Keep up the good work on the VITA tho.

  • what? we are supposed to pay for the botzone update? it was meant to be free all along as a future patch for killzone, it never mentioned a price. come on, this botzone should be free for all who purchased killzone mercenary

  • It is so awesome that you can get the multiplayer trophies with offline botzone!

  • Awesome. Worth it on the buy. Travel too much and online isn’t really an option. Thanks!

  • Now I think I’ll be able to attempt “Killing Machine” and the other skill-dependent, MP trophies :)

I initially had no interest in KZ:M, but since picking it up on the cheap, it’s easily one of the Vita’s best games. I judged a bit too early, being a shooter veteran and all.

Will gladly buy the Botzone DLC, if only to stand a chance in (offline) MP :p

Cheers GC, and hope you’re able to keep making titles for Vita, if Sony’ll let you.

  • Please stop complaining about price. Development costs money, and despite all the effort you have put into claiming on forums you want additional features, if you aren’t willing to put even 3 dollars behind that claim, you never wanted it in the first place.

Failing to back this stuff and claiming it should be free only tells companies not to bother supporting released games, and that its not worth their time, effort, and cash to even bother.

If you truly want companies to release games and forget about them, then by all means, complain about the minuscule price of DLC features.

  • I would love to play my KZ Mercenary Online and Off Online but b/c I have a 4GB card, I can not get any of the updates. Which I think is unfair…. I can only play the story line

  • @23 If they want money they should release worth functions, give me maps and i will pay, give me game modes and i will pay, but i will not pay for bot mode,

GIVE ME ADHOC AND I WOUILD EVEN PAY FOR IT god

  • @25

” If they want money they should release worth functions, give me maps and i will pay, give me game modes and i will pay, but i will not pay for bot mode,”

Exactly, this is your choice to not pay for it. Just don’t say you want it if you aren’t willing to pay for it.

I will +1 the AdHoc, and I would pay for that too…. what do you think Guerilla, start a kickstarter?

  • Botzone is great!

Now it’s time for Ad-hoc Multiplayer, please! :D

  • Paying for bots? Yeah… no. Sorry guys, not gonna fly with me.

  • Great news ! This pack will be mine tonight ! Since the launch of this game, you’ve made a great work. Thank you for that !

  • Now I have a good reason to get back into this game again just like Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. After buying this game for $9 a few months ago, I figured something was missing.

@DJ_Tomato Then don’t buy it then. You don’t have to repeat it twice to our faces.

  • That’s awesome news! As soon as the game goes on sale it will be mine! If only every other Fps had bots.

  • Its not a good comment section if there isn’t any crying and complaining. Devs have to make money…and if you have this game and like it, and want to see them do more games, support them with you wallets!

  • Hahah. Paying for a bot zone? Joke right?

  • Nobody wants to hear about sucky generic FPS.

Is TMNT Out of the Shadows coming out today or not? Or you just going to leave us in the dark, like always?

  • at 35 seems to me that you are the only one on this comment section that dont want to hear about the best handheld fps ever created so yea speak for yourself please, we are here commenting because we care, some of us dont mind paying for offline botzone others do.

  • Cool! I like the option to complete some mp trophys offline. Thanks Guerrilla games!

  • @ remanutd5

I speak for millions of people who also hate FPS. Also, classic FPS are far better than sucky modern shooters. Why does every game made these days have to be sucky FPS Cawadoody clones? They are flooding, plaguing, infesting and spamming the video game industry with these crappy “games”.

PS2, PS, etc. consoles were never plagued by so many shooters. Why are they so linear? Why is there nothing to do in them aside from pewpew down a linear corridor? I want some gameplay in my game, not this lowest common denominator crap.

  • @6, DJ- Dude, ye make no sense. Guerilla gave us FREE maps unlike other fps titles. The Bot pack has trophy support, at post release- that’s never been done.

So, being the maps were free why not support them here? Nm if the logic doesn’t work for then.

@35, neur- wow, you’re so cheery today! Btw, TMNT is an Activision title so wrong thread. Sigh, I too hate being left in the darkness!

  • @#23 I couldn’t agree more! Come on people, GG have given us a lot of stuff for free (MAPS INCLUDED) and have made the best FPS experience possible on a handheld. If you like the game, then support it!

@#38 Stop grasping for attention, go get it elsewhere.

  • @38, but but IGN review says TMNT is a BAD Batman wannabe? Generic tho we like them still right? See what I did there? Why do you speak for anybody anyways? I want to see which states voted ye into leadership Against fps.

So we just enjoy different genres in games. Why judge? Why are you arguing?

  • Just why? Why does this cost money (the price of a little game) ? Who wants to pay the price of a little game to just play offline with bots and unlock trophies in vain and not in the way they were meant to be gotten?

  • Because there are so many FPS and they’re all exactly the same. They are ruining the video game industry. They influence changes to other genres, hell FFXIII was so awful, and there’s even an article stating how the director was influenced by Cawadoody.

Why don’t you people like good games? Why are you so happy with mediocrity?

  • im so happy because this ‘s not free, i want to support GC more, and this game is the best fps for handheld. You can pay 50$ for crappy game like cod,but so angry to pay for a awesome mode just 2.5$ ???.Why,why, why . And then you cry like a baby wondering why GC dont want to make new game for ps vita.

  • This is great, it would be even greater at home if I could stream my Vita to my TV through my PS4.

  • @neuropunk

There are few FPS games on the Vita, and Killzone is by far the best. Everything GC did with the game was awesome, it was fun to play, and I finally have a great FPS to take on the go. I will gladly support them and pay for the mode, (estimated to be $2.49).

Also, on the Vita itself, there are way more RPGs on the system then FPS titles. You say FPS games are ruining the industry, but they are few and far between on the Vita.

  • @43 Nice trolling. The commenters here appreciate a well-designed, mobile FPS with fast-paced action. We’re not looking for a boring menu-driven RPG. This article was written for fans of Killzone. Nobody is listening to your complaints. You’re not going to get through to RPG developers or change Sony’s mind here.

  • Wow, and then Wow.

Couldn’t wait for this, then also noticed the word purchase.
Not something for those of us that payed full price for a download.

About as irritating as the text problems the Vita has when trying to text anything.

  • At 2.50 though itis not unreasonable, though it still grates my nerves.

Thnk I will wait to see if the AI is even any good.

  • Nice! Been looking forward to this for some time now. Also glad to hear that the multiplayer trophies will be able to be unlocked offline.
