The Drop: New PlayStation Games for 4/22/2014

Ryan Clements's Avatar Posted by Senior Specialist, SIEA Social Media

The Drop

Space ships, sea creatures, and shambling undead! It’s a big week for gaming, and PS Vita in particular, with a hefty batch of new games coming to the PlayStation family.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch arrives on PS4, with a lovable hero and hilarious play, to boot. Help a charming octopus get through life’s little challenges (Like marriage!) without revealing his true aquatic origins. Be warned: playing Octodad may result in fits of teary-eyed laughter. Not recommended while driving.

Meanwhile, it’s a huge week for PS Vita, which hosts the launch of The Walking Dead: Season 2 — Episode 1. The award-winning, post-apocalyptic series continues with the heart-wrenching story of Clementine. Survive in a world gone to hell, where every choice made could impact Clementine’s fate.

But that’s not all for PS Vita. Starlight Inception arrives as well; soar between the stars in this space combat experience that packs a full story, multiplayer modes, and even an additional tower defense game set in the same fiction.

Feeling a little more like a classic JRPG? Brave the dangers of first-person dungeons with Demon Gaze on PS Vita. All this and more below, so read on — and enjoy the Drop!

Cel Damage HD
Defense Technica
Demon Gaze
Octodad: Dadliest Catch

I don’t like the price for octodad. Since it’s a short game it deserved a better price of 9.99 with a 2 dollar discount for plus members.

EU got a great Easter sale but the US didn’t even get an Easter sale. The US store got a flash sale, but it was butt. Why does EU get everything good on the Playstation Store, especially with Plus?

Every time I see “three way cross-buy” I want the game even if it’s not one of my favorite kinds.

Must be good marketing :)

Question: Will Cel Damage have Cross Save feature for those of us with a PS Vita and PS3/PS4?

Any chance of getting Dark Souls 1 on psn ? i would really like it if i have all three souls games so i don’t have to keep changing disks ( already have dark souls 2 and demon’s souls).

at neuropunk comment 5. because Euro getting most of time Montly discount and not weekly like us. they paying most game twice the price if you count the rate change.. like GTA 5 at 79 euro = 104 $ … Most of time price is same but with a different symbol .. so Euro always paying more lol. 19,99$ $ vs 19.99 Euro is like 27$. the only way Euro gamer win is if they use an US PSN account so they always have a 33% disount on everything because the ratge change again ^^ I know because i’m using both account on my ps3 and i have 90 usa game vs 1 euro game.. because price always too high on euro one.

Nemisis666 said:

And that .99 cent sale literally offered no love for ps4 … even after the 7 million console sold post they shunned us

When are we getting HBO go for the PS4?

DICEBONE-21 said:

Random thought, but i think “Destiny of spirits” for the ps vita should be advertised more, before it gets to old and outdated. I see a big hit with this game but only if sony advertises correctly. Its like yu gi oh.

MrBanballow said:

April 20th, 10:44 am

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s supposed to be Episodes 1 AND 2 for Walking Dead this week, right?

A few smaller Vita titles here that look good.

I really want to know why Magic 2015 isnt coming to Vita. It’d be perfect to have

exjraordinary said:

I agree with 19. the PS4 should have got at least one game like Resogun for .99, even though I have the Plus game, it would be good for people without Plus. Im loving the Vita love of late, with Borderlands 2, Soul Sacrifice Delta, Freedom Wars, Akibas Trip 2, God of War, and Sly this will be an epic 2014. I see the vgchartz, each week Vita is getting more market share from 3ds keep it up. Only hope we get a retail release of Soul Sacrifice Delta maybe limited edition or at least gamestop exclusive I read they are doing something similar to Tales of Hearts R later this year. My 16 gb card is full with tons of games.

Will more PS3 games be available in digital form over time?
Like Majin and Driver San Francisco?

Valde_zerocool said:

On The Walking Dead post earlier this week they said Episode 2 will also be available, is this still true?

PrimeroIncognito said:

@ neuropunk

The Flash Sale going on this weekend is still a good one even if it doesn’t feature any grindy JRPGs. Not everyone has the same tastes as you. And we get sales EVERY Tuesday. Those of us who are Plus members get a new “free” game every Monday, along with discounts on other games. I mean, really, how much more do you want? What is going on in your life that keeps you from developing an appreciation for what you already have? You have food to eat, right? Clothes to wear and shelter over your head, correct? In fairly good health, yes? A warm bed to sleep in? A place to bathe and dispose of your waste? OK then. Chill. Everything else is a luxury.

CommandingTiger said:

Octodad. very short game, not worth the full price.
Steam version allows you to make custom levels. If it’s not on the PS4 version, then most of it’s value is lost.

Reshes said:

With Conception II last week and Demons Gaze this week the Vita is getting a lot of RPG love. Thank you so much SCEA! I hope we get more announcements soon! Maybe figure out Final Fantasy XII Vita or I would love to see Saga Frontier 1 & 2 on the Playstation Store!

CommandingTiger said:

Why do you keep bringing awesome PS3 games to the system? My HDD is full! :)
Gonna get Soul Calibur and Defense Technica.

Too bad we didn’t get an Easter sale that recognized the existence of Vita and PS4 :/

exjraordinary said:

Actually gex: enter the gecko, crash 1-3, ctr, everyday shooter, retro city rampage, spyro 1-3, when vikings attack, urban trial freestyle are all .99 and all work for vita. Spyro 1-3 and Crash -1-3 require download to ps3 and transfer. Gex: enter the gecko is a classic very mario 64 like but funny, highly recommend.

ThumbsOfSteel74 said:

April 20th, 12:30 pm

@exjraordinary: Many people have posted over many months (if not years by now) that the Crash and Spyro PS1 Classics don’t work on Vita at all in NA region. No transfer from PS3, either.

Oh look, a new PS4 game that steals it’s name from two different sources that have nothing to do with gaming. And then… It steals it’s game play from another game that wasn’t worth playing to begin with. To think, idiots bought a PS4 just for this one game? Good, after you beat it within an hour or two you can trade in the system because there is not much else to play that’s not available on other systems for fractions of the price.Just Saying…!!!

ThumbsOfSteel74 said:

April 20th, 1:06 pm

I think it might indeed be “special” if someone bought a PS4 *just* to play Octodad. But I think people mean to say it was one of the first games they were interested in on the PS4. The first spark of something remotely new or different, and an example of great things to come.

ElectricSlurpee said:

am i the only one hoping that octodad has a god of war style sex mini-game?

drewim469 said:

April 20th, 2:30 pm

Yet another disappointing week. Where are all the games that were supposed to be out by spring? Wasnt that supposed to be an updated list? How are half of the games still not out? I’m getting seriously aggravated by all of the secrecy, all of the “news soon” about games. I’m sorry, I’m a Sony fanboy, but Cell Damage and Octodad are only going to tide me over until about Wednesday. Not that I’d actually buy either of them.

Sneeches said:

April 20th, 2:38 pm

played the demo for octodad and the controls are terrible. I will not be buying this game.

hazelcabug said:

April 20th, 2:43 pm

I was expecting for some EASTER SALE like what EU have. I already played almost 90% of flash sale which 90% are either very old ps3 games or ps2 classic.
