Last week, with assists from Nick Fury and Agent Coulson, we finally got to share the big news that Marvel is coming to the 2.0 Edition of Disney Infinity. At the packed Cinerama Dome in Hollywood with thousands more tuning in via the livestream on YouTube and Twitch, we unveiled plans to release Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes on PS3 and PS4 this fall.
Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes builds on what worked really well about the first installment and is bigger and better in every way. Play Set adventures including The Avengers will feature story-driven gameplay, iconic Marvel locations, amped up combat, more destruction, and many gadgets and vehicles. Of interest to Marvel fans is that Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis has crafted original stories for the Play Sets.
More than 20 Marvel Figures from across the Marvel Universe will be joining the game including Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, and Hulk. Some of the most popular Disney Infinity figures to date have been the Incredibles, who each have a unique power. Now you’re going to have an entire cast of super-powered Marvel characters with abilities that you can level up through skill trees.

The 2.0 Toy Box is getting major enhancements too. Before we dive into that, let’s get this out of the way: yes, Disney Infinity is forwards compatible! The Disney Infinity Figures and Power Discs you’ve already collected can be brought into the 2.0 Toy Box. Even the current Base will work with the 2.0 edition.
Competitive structured gameplay across franchises was a huge community request, and we’re so psyched to make it happen. With Toy Box Game Discs, you’ll get to play Tower Defense and Dungeon Crawler games with any character you have on hand. These are about three to four hours in length.
We also heard from players and saw firsthand that building in the Toy Box could be simplified, so we’ve made it more intuitive with the Creator tool. This mode uses procedural generation so you’re able to easily craft uniquely elaborate cityscapes and complex racetracks, and then of course you have the option to go in and tweak them.
Additionally, the “INteriors” feature opens up new possibilities by allowing you to go inside buildings and completely customize the spaces.
We’ve really been blown away by the power and creativity of the community in terms of what’s been created in the 1.0 Toy Box. The Disney Parks creations we recently featured on Toy Box TV are prime examples of how far players are pushing the possibilities. With all of these upgrades to the 2.0 Toy Box, there’s no doubt that the creations are going to go from awesome to unbelievable. In fact, we just hired community member crazybynick to create 2.0 Toy Boxes and are looking to have even more stars from our community join the Disney Infinity Team.
We have much more to announce on all fronts and, as Nick Fury briefed us at the Announce Event, more intelligence about the additional Super Heroes joining “Project Infinity” will be incoming at E3. Actually, Disney acquired Marvel long before it acquired Lucasfilm. They’re the reason a movie like Avengers could be pulled off.
Oh well then if my base still works I assume that means I don’t have to buy a new base for 2.0…right? Please don’t make me buy a new base: be cool to early adopters!

Marvel (as a company) was on the verge of filing bankruptcy for a third time before Disney came along to save the day. Don’t forget the DC was acquired by WB in 1969. It gives the comic companies financial security to be apart of a larger company.
This game is for children. I hope Disney doesn’t ruin Marvel or Star Wars for that matter, by only making games that appeal to 10 year olds.
I seriously hope that Stitch crawling on that building as Captain America’s shield flew by was signaling that a Lilo and Stitch Play Set was finally coming, or at the very least, a few characters. The franchise would inherently work well, and the main reason that I didn’t get into Disney Infinity was that it was lacking in the classics department. Unfortunately, the sequel looks like it will do nothing to fix that.
@hahpurr you would be suprised alot of adults actually enjoy playing games like this and the lego games. But this looks cool to play with the family.
Infinity was very tempting, this takes that one step farther. Man, I do not want to buy the toys, but the game looks like a lot of fun.
My question is: if I have Disney Infinity for the PS3 already, will my base work if I get 2.0 for the PS4? Or will I need a PS4 specific base?

Skylanders isn’t touching it, so that’s a market with no competition right there if you went for it.
Is there any way that you guys can get the PS4 base to work with Vita? You support 3DS so I would like to see Vita support as well.

@13 and @14. I have the same question here. The excerpt from the article does not answer that. It only assures that there will be base compatibility from the 1.0 to the 2.0 in the PS3 system. The question here is about PS4. I want to start playing Infinity, but I want to play on my new PS4. Do I have to wait the 2.0 release on PS4 or can I start on my PS3 and then move on to the PS4 when 2.0 is released? By the way, @14 you shouldnt just assume that people dont read, be nice…
My dream playing this game?
This game looks fun in the sense that Lego games are usually fun when they’re done right. Sure, this style of game can just look simplistic, but it’s clean and simple fun that you don’t mind playing with the little ones.
My only problem is the whole “buy this toy to add this character to the game” which is just a DLC scheme basically. I don’t want to have a bunch of toys cluttering the house. There’s enough of that already from when my niece and nephew visit. I would much rather just buy the game and buy traditional DLC if I wanted some of the extras. This whole collectible toy scheme is why you see the Gamestop exclusive Jack Skellington figure going for 40 bucks plus on ebay. That’s a little ridiculous. It just reminds me too much of the beanie baby fad from a couple years ago. If there was a more traditional add-on model then I’d probably pick up the game, but as it is I really just can’t see it happening
I will be honest in saying I dont know much about the infinity universe but I did buy a jack skellington figure just to have it and I am really interested in my favorite Marvel character… Loki but it looks like he is being set up as a bad guy, does that mean players cant play with him or that there isnt a figure for him, as that would make me really sad.
I’m sure there will be a Loki Figure. There are villain figures available for Disney infinity 1.0 and with Loki’s popularity I’m sure he’s a shoe in. In the toy box you can create and do just about anything with any figure, except for the cars characters, they can only tow other cars and race. You should be able to create your own Loki controlled Midgard.
