Mugen Souls Z Out Today on PS3

Mugen Souls Z for PS3

Greetings, friendos! David from NISA here ready to kick off your weekly PlayStation Store update day with some awesome news! The cray cray RPG, Mugen Souls Z, is out today on both PlayStation Store and in retail stores for PS3! Created by COMPILE HEART and GCREST, Mugen Souls Z features a vibrant, free-roaming battle map, unique turn-based combat, and massive amounts of customization to quench even the most hardcore RPG fan’s thirst. What uberness awaits you in Mugen Souls Z? Read on to find out, mein friends!

Let’s give you all a brief rundown of the story first! Our favorite Undisputed God of the Universe, Chou-Chou (the main character from the first Mugen Souls), returns with her crew for a brand-new story revolving around the zodiac.

Taking place immediately after the first game, you take control of the goddess Syrma, who meets Chou-Chou just after the end of the first game’s events. Syrma is out to stop an ancient threat to her world that has recently awakened (as many threats and/or evils always seem to do in RPGs!).

How about the battle system? Fans of the Hyperdimension Neptunia series will recognize the battle encounters, as this title shares the same area of effect/free movement battle system. On top of this, Disgaea fans will appreciate a lot of the team attack/over-the-top animations where your characters can do billions of points of damage! Along with Syrma, you can expect a ton of new characters, each with a personality of their own — relating to the zodiac.

Let’s talk a bit about some of the other key features of Mugen Souls Z. While you’re out conquering worlds, you’ll encounter some pretty epic spaceship battles. Like in the first Mugen Souls, it’s shields-up and red alert as you’ll have to prove your worth against a slew of gigantic space hunks of metal that are out to decimate you.

Life is hard as the God of the Universe, you see. Aside from stellar space battles, you’ll travel through 12 different worlds. During battle, one of the new mechanics you’ll experience is “The Damage Carnival,” where if you deal enough damage, the festival of pain will come to town. This mechanic deals extra damage and can even score you some more loot once the battle is over. More loot for the win! Lastly, this title is packed with tons of customization and character creation abilities — so prepare your creative juices.

Again, we’re extremely stoked for Mugen Souls Z to launch today. We also will be releasing a bunch of awesome DLC in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled, doods! Thank you for reading and we’ll be back shortly to talk about more awesome stuff!

  • Wish I was getting this at launch! But I’ll be picking up a copy soon to support my favourite publisher.

Btw, when are we going to hear more about Fairy Fencer F?

  • For some reason I can’t get into enjoying the original Mugen Souls, so I’ll have to skip supporting NISA on this release. However, I’m glad that NISA is localizing this for the west!

And yeah, I’m +1 on @poodude comment — I’d love to hear more about Fairy Fencer F as well. I played the JP version, enjoyed it a lot (even I don’t really understand the story) and so happy to hear that it got localized. Please give us more info!

  • GAHHHHHHHH
Stop releasing these kind of games too often, i can’t afford them all at once
Ive just finished Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory and started The Witch and the Hundred Knight. And i was thinking in buying Mugen Souls and eventually The Guided Fate Paradox along with others as soon as i have a Vita (Demon Gaze, for example) and now you bring THIS.
*sigh* I guess its better if i start to keep up with the pace

Anyway, looking forward to this and future releases

  • Thank you David. Conquering the universe just became more interesting.

  • 1 . Will this be fully dubbed? Last time, a good portion of the game was left unvoiced ( The Sun Goddess events, etc. ) despite being voiced in the japanese version.

    2. Like the first question, this is related to the voices. Peons were not voiced in English, will they be voiced this time around?

3.Compile Heart has been making a bad habit out of pay to win / pay to speed up the grind DLC as of late, will this game include any of that this time?

    4. Well, here’s to good things. Hope it’s fun.
Also, here’s to Mugen Souls Z Limited Edition not being as painfully ironic as Mugen Souls LE.

  • I know this doesn’t really have anything to do with Mugen Souls Z, but I gotta ask.

Neptunia PP is right around the corner (LE preorded!). But with Idea Factory International localizing Neptunia Re;birth 1 later this summer….do you guys intend to localize (some of) the future Neptunia titles? Or is that IFI’s game now?

  • Will be picking my copy up whenever it arrives at my local retailer.

I just hope I don`t experience framerate issues similar to the first game, those issues made some of the combat and some of the dungeon/map exploration an annoyance rather than an enjoyable experience. Well only way to find out is to put the game in I guess.

  • I am refusing to buy this game even though I very much enjoyed the first one because the censoring in the first game absolutely disgusted me and they’re doing it again to this one. Just disgusting.

Note that Record of Agarest War 2 had almost the same content that got censored in these games and it passed by with a T rating because it wasn’t NISA that localized that game.

  • Arrived yesterday and been having an awesome time with it. Thank you bringing it here.

  • Thanks so much! I’ve been looking forward to starting this series. Keep em coming!

  • Thank you NISA

  • Has this game been censored in any way compared to the JP version?

I heard a ton of complaints about Mugen Souls having that happen to it’s western release.

  • Please release avatars!

  • Please tell me you guys have fixed the unbearable framerate issues of the first Mugen Souls? It was so annoying having the game slow to a grinding halt after ever battle. Not too mention the awful load times. :(

  • The first game was really bad. Might wait for this to drop quite a bit before picking it up.

  • Wow just look at that another great RPG for PS3 this looks like it could very well be fun.

  • Localize awfully a crappy game that bombed in Japan, censor it and cut content, and then expect it to sell; that’s something you could only expect from one of the worst companies out there.

    BUT,
to localize the SEQUEL and CENSOR IT AND CUT CONTENT AGAIN?! AGAIN. Not to mention the eventual awful localization…
    Only in NISA.

Why are you still in bussiness? AND HOW. Even monkeys can do better work.

  • I’m not sure if I’ll buy this or not yet. Looking forward to Fairy Fencer F and Disgaea 4 Vita though. (buying Neptunia PP, but never played an idol game so not sure what I’ll think of it)

  • @17 Please learn some spelling and grammar before you try to insult someone else.

For the rest who are on the fence. I just replayed the original Mugen Souls in prep for this and when I picked this up yesterday, it was a great improvement on the first game. The combat lag is gone. Menus are smoother. I’m not too far into the game yet but so far it looks promising. If you were okay with the first one, then you’ll definitely like this one. But if moe rpgs just aren’t your thing then you are looking the wrong title to begin with. So for those smart enough to pick it up, enjoy!

  • Thank you NISA, for bringing over games that are actually interesting instead of crappy cell phone game ports like the majority of PS4 games seem to be.

  • This game should be on the PS Vita not the PS3 at all; this game is more fit for PS Vita then PS3.

  • death_nation100

Oh great ,this is what I hate about sequels I’m force to get the 1st one in order to move to the 2nd installment .

  • Thank you for bringing this awesome game to the west, but its very dissapointing that you censored this game. Wanna let you know that I can’t support you and buy the game. I will never support any censorship!
