SingStar Coming to PS4 Alongside Free Companion App This Year

Hi everyone! Here at SingStar HQ we’re really excited to announce some very big changes coming to SingStar this year.

SingStar on PS4

It’s hard to believe but SingStar is ten years old today, and in that time we’ve sold a whopping 26 million copies, so thanks to all of you for your fantastic support over the years.

Over the last decade we’ve really tried to keep making your SingStar experience the very best possible, like launching the SingStore back in 2007 to give you instant access to the best tracks online. And we don’t plan to stop any time soon.

We’re pleased to announce that SingStar will be coming to PS4 later this year! We’ll also be launching a free SingStar app that will transform your smartphone into a microphone. That’s right, no mics required.

The app works with both PS3 and PS4 versions of SingStar and is compatible with smartphones and tablets. The app will also let you create your own personal playlists.

We’re also working hard to optimize the social experience of SingStar by making it even easier to share the best bits of your night on Twitter and Facebook straight from the game. With an improved scoring system you can also build up your XP and get rewarded for game activity, or challenge your friends online and entertain them with your renditions of your favorite songs.

You’ll also be able to download tons more songs from the SingStore, from the latest Pop hits and Rock classics, to Hip Hop and RnB. In fact, we’ve just added Bruno Mars and some REM classics.

We’ll be sharing more details over the coming months, so please keep an eye right here on PlayStation.Blog for more on SingStar.

Over and out!

Support to sing songs that we import, like if I got a song from Itunes. I import to SingStar and can play it/sing it.

I hope the new SingStar comes out soon, me and my gf had alot of funny times being goofy.

Another easy and pleasant news from Playstation 4 . When we get together with friends, we play on PS4 or sing karaoke. )))

Sorry, but PS2 and PS3 discs can’t be played on PS4.

I’m seeing that comment on Twitter and Facebook, but PS2 discs don’t work on the PS3, but the SingStar game/app still reads the game data from PS2 discs!

The same could be possible on the PS4. It plays DVD’s and Blu-Ray discs. PS2 games are on DVD. PS3 games are on Blu-Ray. There’s no reason why the game data from these discs couldn’t or wouldn’t work on the PS4 as it did on the PS3.

And, even if there is a technical barrier to making the disc-swap function a reality on the PS4, i’m sure it’s something you could ask Sony to patch into their firmware to make it possible.

C’mon… a lot of us have many, many SingStar discs. I alone have 30 PS3 and 20 PS2 discs from all around the world. That’s a lot of content we wouldn’t be able to use on the PS4.

And, what SingStar needs is new, popular music. The DLC has slowed down to once a month, and it’s not great. So, give us the big hits like Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke or The Fox by Ylvis… make it a fun game for all!

I’m glad i’ll finally be able to play singstar again. I couldn’t play it before because all the songs I purchased were tied to my original ps3 and wouldnt download on my replacement even though every other thing i’ve ever bought on psn did. judging from what you have been telling people I will be able to redownload songs I’ve bought on my ps4 but still can’t play them on my ps3.

The ability to disc-swap once SingStar PS3 was launched toplay songs on PS2 discs was great.

Its unfortunate if all those PS2 and PS3 discs my wife has gotten over the years no longer work on PS4.

Forget disc swapping,
Let me either copy my old sing star disc content to my PS4
Or
Unlock the same content on my PS4.

Most people have quite a few tracks tied up on disc that would cost too much to re purchase. and swapping disc for content is not next gen.

Listen carefully Sony/SCE/SCA here’s what you do to win customers.

Let owners of Singstar PS3 import all their content from PS2 discs to their Singstar account without cost NOW (pre release)
Let owners of Singstar PS3 who purchase Singstar PS4 at full price import all their PS3 content (discs + digital) (plus already transferred PS2 content)
Sit back and watch all the Singstar PS4 owners shell out for new tracks because -
a) Sony were nice enough to let them keep their old stuff
b) Customers don’t need to buy their old tracks again
c) People will want new tracks to show off their new game

to sum up –
people don’t absolutely need their old tracks, they want new stuff or can indeed re purchase, but when they’ve invested so much money in them, they feel bad about it and hesitate on spending more. Let them have their old stuff, and let them spend.
