PlayStation Plus – 2 Titles Per Month for PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th year milestone. PS Plus has evolved a lot as a membership since then. We’ve provided our PS Plus members with numerous exclusive discounts, access to betas, demos and even select games early, and of course, free games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we have built a strong community of gamers around the world.

The excitement around PlayStation 4 has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see how quickly our dedicated community has rallied around the system, adopting and engaging with its features and spreading the word about what makes PS4 the best console available. PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast, Don’t Starve and Mercenary Kings. Since we are always looking to continue evolving PS Plus to be a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games introduced each month with PS Plus. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.

Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free. In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.

Protip: you don’t have to download the game to your hard drive (or memory card) to gain the entitlement — you can also go to the web store, add them to your cart and check out. Once the game says “Purchased” below it when you’re logged in, you’ll be set for the future as long as you’re a PS Plus member.

Members have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, including the Destiny multiplayer beta (for members who have pre-ordered the game), Driveclub PS Plus Edition, Secret Ponchos and more.

Now – Matthew Harper from our Community Team is here to tell you all about June’s lineup! Take it away, Matt:

Plus - Trine 2

Okay, now that you’re all up to speed with PlayStation Plus, let’s go over the games you’ll get this month. Buddy up, because your two PS4 games are best when experienced with a friend (or two). Trine 2: Complete Story is a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and wraps them up in fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save.

On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals. The latest in the franchise features a new Path to Greatness starring the reigning NBA champion LeBron James. Sly Cooper and pals are back in Thieves of Time — since it’s a cross-buy title, Plus members will get both the PS3 and Vita versions next month.

Finally, PS Vita owners get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is a procedurally generated sandbox game where you’ll build crazy structures and fight insane boss monsters, while Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a spin on the traditional 2D platformers of years past – they’ve got the art style and chiptune tracks down, but you can also hop into a third dimension with a nifty jetpack. Jetpacks are cool.

Watch the video below to see June’s lineup in action.

  • Wow..I’m personally dissapointed that you guys are going in this direction. I understand you want to make it even across all platforms but still dissapointing. Was hoping UC3 and LBP Karting being taken out would be replaced by something good. I guess not.

  • HI :D

  • Shinra_Soldier7

What about the 3 yearly PS3 title switchout? LBPK and UC3 are leaving the IGC Tuesday so when will we know the replacements and will XCOMM be replaces as well? Any info would be appreciated!

  • + Mercenary09, Stop Whining you Crybaby

  • Why not Sly Cooper on Vita so people would feel compelled to buy the newly released trilogy?

Also, once again I have all the games on Plus =/ can’t we have some kind of compensation? Even 5 bucks would be ok

    • Good news! Sly is actually cross-buy so you will receive both the PS3 and PS Vita versions this month from Plus.

  • Wow, I was expecting this month to be a dud. Terraria on Vita!!!

    • Killer title! We have an extremely varied line-up this month – I’m really excited about it.

  • Just wondering if there will be a yearly switchout as well?

    • As John mentioned, we’re focusing on providing Plus members with a more balanced set of games across all platforms (PS4, PS3, and PSVita). With this update we’re also giving games on a more regular schedule, which means that we will be giving all members 2 games per platform every month. Beginning in July the IGC will be updated on the first Tues of the month and games will be available for a full month. We hope this makes it easier for our members to anticipate when they will be receiving new games, and for how long those games will be available to download.

  • @Mercenary09, You’re a Spoiled Gamer! Sony is giving you 2 free PS4 games >:

  • While I think next month has a pretty good selection of games, I can’t help but be a little disappointed since it’s the 4 year anniversary. Oh well, here’s hoping we hear some AMAZING E3 news at the press conference!

  • @1 … This looks like its just the NORMAL update. There is supposed to be another one to announce the annual titles that are to be refreshed like last year (it was announced during the E3 conference)

  • Love the new additions and the fact that we’ll be getting them ALL next Tuesday! That’s awesome! Really looking forward to Terraria, Sly Cooper and Mutant Mudds! I’m not much of a sports fan mind you ;)

  • I_Be_Trollin_69

Common!! The E.U got Muramasa and Dragons Crown in two months while get get Indies for two months! This is BS, Glad I didn’t renew my sub last month.

  • Two free games a month on everything? That’s a great deal! Thanks, guys, you just keep getting more awesome. :D

  • Wow, a little something for everyone there. Nice assortment, I approve!

I do feel a little stupid for buying Thieves in Time shortly after release for Vita and never even loading it up once! But it was retail copy for only $20, so no big loss.

I’m particularly excited to try Terraria. I’ve played it on PC/Steam and loved it. Downloaded the demo on Vita, but never gave it a shot yet.

    • Making sure we always have something for everyone via a varied assortment of titles across platforms and genres is a huge priority for us – we’re really glad to hear that you approve!

  • Oops I misread that. It stats in July lol. Oh well.

  • Wish we could have NBA 2K14 for PS4 ):

  • I’ve been super close to picking up Trine 2 on PS4 for a while now – glad I held off!

  • Sly Cooper is nice, but overall, this is really disappointing, especially considering how good the last couple months were, and that Europe is getting Dragon’s Crown this month. Lame. :/

  • I’m just leaving feedback like Sony asks for. If you don’t like it tough. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Drop the name calling we don’t like that here.

    @Shinra
The way I see it they are not getting replaced by anything new. The new format changes things now so the lineup above is the only new games we are getting for June.

  • Cool 2 free games for ps4! That makes me a happy owner woot!

    • Yes – we’re pumping up the PS4 offerings in Plus due to all the feedback we’ve received from PS4 owners since we launched back in Nov. Glad you like it!

  • Shinra_Soldier7

@5 Sly Cooper Thieves in Time is cross-buy so you get the ps3 and vita versions!

  • Sweet. Gonna get another Trine 2 plat. :P

  • Nothing for me here.

  • I already have Dragons Crown, but still a little disappointing that EU got it and we did not.

Terraria is awesome, so I guess that’s something.

    Isn’t PixelJunkShooter Ultimate cross-buy?

  • I cannot contain my disappointment.

  • Wasn’t Trine 2 already free on the PS3 PS+ side months, maybe even years ago? They’re hitting all platforms but for someone like me who only owns a PS3 it doesn’t really do anything for me. Thankfully PS+ is not required on the PS3 so I can let my sub run up and don’t have to worry about re-subbing because the free selection of games has been quite **** as of late. Looking forward to Sly though.

  • PS. While I love the Vita line-up this month (Terraria, Mutant Mudds, Sly4), I was really hoping that the three evergreens (UGA, GR, WO) would finally be replaced.

Please let there be a surprise announcement at E3 stating such a thing. LBP Vita and P4G should be givens. Maybe KZM for the third?

  • Really disappointed your giving us crappy sports games. These games if I wanted them I could pick up for 2 bucks in about a year from gamestop bargain bin. Would like to see better titles please, don’t mind the two titles a month thing but make them worthwhile if your giving us less (ps3).

  • With the exception of Trine 2 Complete being on PS4, another lackluster pick of games. While I know we won’t get any really good quality PS4 games for PS+ for at least another year, they need to at least off-set that with better PS3 and Vita PS+ games. Here’s hoping that after E3 the line-up for the Annual games are a lot better, and the month of July will be awesome!

  • /sigh lack of support for real games on PS4 is consistently disappointing, especially now that its required for online multiplayer.. PS3 gets the real games but I really didn’t want to have to switch back to it, if I didn’t have to. Probably gonna just let Plus drop this year when its up.

  • Pongan el terraria para PS3 por favor

  • @ CapJSheridan- Sly 4 is cross-buy, so it’ll work on Vita as well

  • Pretty disappointed with PS+ the past few months…this ie like the 4th month in a row where I don’t really care about anything we’re getting. I’m a little excited for Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, but other than that we get more sports games (Does anyone really want these with PS+?), a game that’s been on sale for $5 or less practically every other week this year, and some very boring-looking games that the majority of us will probably turn on once or twice and then never again.

My PS+ is about to run out and I will still renew but I really hope this trend of boring IGC months ends soon.

  • I was waiting for something big because of e3… sadly not so much.

  • Nice selection. I’ve been wanting to play Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and Terraria. Trine 2: Complete Story looks amazing. Bright colors and cool gameplay. Great stuff Sony. Now if only that EA Sports UFC demo would make its way onto the PS4 I’d be all set!!

  • I’m excited to try mutant mudds. That makes the month worth it to me. Thanks.

  • StealthReborn--

First time I’ve ever complained about PS+ in the four years I’ve had it since day 1, and I’m pretty disappointing in this months offerings. June is supposed to be the biggest month for PS+ and this is a major letdown. IGC PS3 isn’t getting a refresh and Vita hasn’t been refreshed since it started.

Trine 2: Already played and beat
    Pixeljunk: Don’t like.
    NBA: Hate sports games

Vita titles are “ok” at best. Massive supporter of Sony but this is awful. :(

  • bluenightmare941

Looks like i’m going on two months without plus.

  • The one thing I do like though is that like EU we will now get all the free games for the month on the first Tuesday rather than having to wait all month.

  • Since the introduction of PS4, SCEA’s IGC for Vita has been awful. Europe gets Muramasa and Dragon’s Crown while we get sub $15 or less indie games.

Oh, and aren’t Sly Cooper, Pixel Junk Shooter, and Mutant Mudds cross-buy?

  • another weak month for vita? do you hate vita so much SCEA???

  • WOW! I’m Surprised!
That’s a great month for IGC! There are a lot of good games, but i guess vita still could be better o/
    Thanks!

  • I love this new idea! Not much for me for the PS Vita line up that I’m excited about, but I’ll definitely give Terraria and Mutant Mudds a go. Really excited to play the two PS4 games that I never heard of but sound fun and interesting, as well as finally getting to play Sly Cooper 4 and NBA2k14. Held off on those for a while to clean up back log and plat some games. Now I have no excuse to not play and plat Sly Cooper 4 once it goes free. And it’s cross buy!!! That’s the real beauty. Thanks Sony! Love the June line up.

  • Just want to make sure I understand it correctly: EVERY game will only stay in IGC for 1 month (first Tues to the first Tues on the next month, exactly 1 month, “taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free”, there will not be any IGC game with a “long stint”. Existing long-stint IGC games will be all phased out. Correct? If so, that will be a very good news.

So this 2x PS4, 2x PS3, 2x Vita is going to stay too? Certainly good news to PS4 owners. Only wish there is a retail game once in a while instead of all PS4 games being indies.

  • Just picked up Sly last month. Really fun game. Glad to be getting NBA 2K14. When I heard it was coming to EU, I was worried it wasn’t also coming to NA.

With a PS3 and Vita, it’s still more than worth it to be getting 4 games a month. Hopefully, I’ll have a PS4 soon!

  • @39 Sly Cooper and Pixel Junk are not sure about Mutant Mudds.

  • @24 (Silidus),

PJS:U was stated as cross-play and cross-save, but never cross-buy.

  • Glad to see we can finally download everything at the first of the month, Europe’s had that for a while now I think. Can’t say I’m too impressed with another sports game for PS3, especially after getting that awful soccer game this past month, though there is also a Sly Cooper game, so the month’s not a total loss. Hopefully E3 will bring some nice additions to the yearly IGC offerings :)

Also, anyone know if Terraria is cross-buy? Don’t have a vita but would love to have that on my PS3 :)

  • I was a bit disappointed by the lineup at first but then again I’m kind of happy to get games that I would never normally buy. Especially love Terraria on vita. That’s a great title for mobile.

  • I think this is awesome, 2 games per system per month seems like a really fair and balanced way to go. And having all the games available at the start of the month…perfect.
