PlayStation Plus – 2 Titles Per Month for PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th year milestone. PS Plus has evolved a lot as a membership since then. We’ve provided our PS Plus members with numerous exclusive discounts, access to betas, demos and even select games early, and of course, free games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we have built a strong community of gamers around the world.

The excitement around PlayStation 4 has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see how quickly our dedicated community has rallied around the system, adopting and engaging with its features and spreading the word about what makes PS4 the best console available. PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast, Don’t Starve and Mercenary Kings. Since we are always looking to continue evolving PS Plus to be a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games introduced each month with PS Plus. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.

Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free. In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.

Protip: you don’t have to download the game to your hard drive (or memory card) to gain the entitlement — you can also go to the web store, add them to your cart and check out. Once the game says “Purchased” below it when you’re logged in, you’ll be set for the future as long as you’re a PS Plus member.

Members have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, including the Destiny multiplayer beta (for members who have pre-ordered the game), Driveclub PS Plus Edition, Secret Ponchos and more.

Now – Matthew Harper from our Community Team is here to tell you all about June’s lineup! Take it away, Matt:

Plus - Trine 2

Okay, now that you’re all up to speed with PlayStation Plus, let’s go over the games you’ll get this month. Buddy up, because your two PS4 games are best when experienced with a friend (or two). Trine 2: Complete Story is a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and wraps them up in fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save.

On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals. The latest in the franchise features a new Path to Greatness starring the reigning NBA champion LeBron James. Sly Cooper and pals are back in Thieves of Time — since it’s a cross-buy title, Plus members will get both the PS3 and Vita versions next month.

Finally, PS Vita owners get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is a procedurally generated sandbox game where you’ll build crazy structures and fight insane boss monsters, while Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a spin on the traditional 2D platformers of years past – they’ve got the art style and chiptune tracks down, but you can also hop into a third dimension with a nifty jetpack. Jetpacks are cool.

Watch the video below to see June’s lineup in action.

    72 games for $50 (possibly less $).

At $50, the 72 games are roughly .70 (cents!) each.

If you already paid for, or will be subscribing or renewing your Plus subscription in the future during one of Sony’s frequent “$10 Back” promos, then, at $40, the 72 games are roughly .56 each.

If you already paid for, or will be subscribing or renewing your Plus subscription during Black Friday or another promo where a 1-year sub is discounted to $30, then, at $30, the 72 games are roughly .42 each.

AAA or not, it’s an incredible value, especially when you factor in cloud storage and discounts, too.

If you complain about that, you’re officially a jackass who’s desperately in need of counseling, a beatdown, and even a full-blown, psychedelically-activated ego death. And you should seriously consider finding a new hobby… one that you might actually learn to appreciate.

    Real talk.

    Have a nice day. :)

  • Sony is saving themselves the headache that the IGC and the staggered, varied contracts for each game was causing. Nobody seemed to understand that it didn’t matter which games were leaving the IGC in any given week. It often had nothing to do with what was being added and affected subscribers in no way. Now the system is much easier to explain to the kids that complain when they are confused. At least this gets one type of nonsense complaint out of the way for the future. And plus we get an extra game each month! Who in their right mind can argue with that? The only thing I can say is I enjoyed having something to look forward to every week instead of once a month, but that’s very nitpicky.

And as far as I’m concerned I say keep the indies coming. They’ve been by and large better experiences for several years now.

  • I’m actually looking forward to the two indie titles being offer for vita via plus. Great 4th anniversary update!

  • I like the scheduling change. I also like the game variety (to try out games I might otherwise skip).

  • AchievementBros

Awesome month!!! Loving all the Co-op games for PS4 this month :-D

  • I can’t lie, it’s pretty disapointing to see sports games leading the ps3 line up for 2 months in a row. They are pretty boring for those who don’t follow the spot in question, i guess sly cooper is nice, people say it’s good and I would never buy it myself, glad i’ll get a chance to play it. I just hope we get some complementary games because of e3 like last year, that would be awesome

  • @ShiranaiJittai said …

“1 Extra PS4 game is not a fair trade to lose 8 PS3 Games and 4 Vita games.”

I don’t think I understand your numbers here. Sony is still adding six games per month to the IGC. One PS3 game per month has become a PS4 game so it’s 2-2-2 instead of 1-3-2, but that’s the only change there.

It’s true that there will now be considerably fewer games in the IGC at any given moment, which lessens the immediate benefit for new customers. But for longtime subscribers such as yourself, I don’t see this big problem you’re seeing. It’s the same number of games every month. You just have to make sure to download them.

You’re right that Sony is pointing out the benefits of the new system instead of the drawbacks. Of course. But the drawbacks are pretty damn minor from where I’m standing. And it was only a matter of time before Sony needed to make some sort of correction. Plus has always seemed too good a value. Sadly, it’s going to need to start cutting some corners to maintain its feasibility. And if that rewards current customers over future ones, well, that’s good for me, so I won’t be making too big a stink.

  • Im signing up on uk ps plus for one month and get murasama and dragons crown. us ps plus clearly have no love for vita.

  • NBA!!!!!???? REALY??!!!!, this month really sucks, microsoft it’s getting better, whit this games i don’t want to pay another year of plus, sony what happend to you?

  • Please stop with the sports games on PS Plus.

  • I can not wait until this indie game fad dies off. Maybe we’ll get real PS+ games on our PS4’s and Vita’s.

  • Why not NBA 2k14 for ps4

  • Is terraria cross but?

  • dangit! i already purchased Trine 2 :-(

  • Super stoked on Trine, and Terraria. Great update, love the service, keep doing what you guys are doing

  • I just keep asking me the same question: Why in the world other gamers choose the dark side and go to the other consoles? Playstation family is the pinnacle of games.

  • Oh wow, just what I wanted on my Vita, more 3 year old indie ports.

  • So is the PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate that’s releasing on the PS4 next week also going to be available next week (or at some point) on the Vita as well? Because obviously at the end of the trailer it does list the game as coming out on both the PS4 & Vita. I’m just not clear as to whether it will be coming out at the same time as the PS4 version next week, especially seeing as how it also states that it is a cross save & play title.

  • ^^^continued from above^^^

Either way I’m glad I’ll finally get the chance to play and then finish PJS 1 & 2 now on my PS4 instead of my PS3 (also w/ the better controller) with vastly improved visuals to boot!! I had started PJS 1 a long time ago on the PS3 (I LOVED it) and just never got around to finishing it. So if in fact the Vita version isn’t going to release for a few weeks, it’s good to at least know that it IS still for sure coming to the Vita, eventually… which btw is awesome because as we all know the Vita is absolutely a perfect fit for these types of games.

Thanx for the help and with all the new games offered each month released for the IGC, I’m just glad I recently decided to finally sign-up for a PS+ subscription!!! It really is a great way to go AND it’s a great way to save some cash if you’re like me and you buy a lot of the smaller PSN/Indie-type games for your Vita.

  • Technically 4 games on vita. I love you. <3

  • LOL at how sony essentially turned the Vita into a portable Ouya. Indies are the death of gaming! Mark my words!

  • Hmm… Sly might be worth a go. The rest, meh. I realize I am only one of millions of Playstation brand owners, but I only have a PS3 (and a PS2 and PSP). I won’t consider a PS4 until my PS3 digital content is supported.

Also, PS plus provides access to network multiplayer (and is required for PS4). Besides Guardians of Middle Earth, which is no longer supported, there hasn’t been much in the way of network multiplayer games. As Jerry Seinfeld would say, “What’s the deal?”

Maybe I’m trying to make too much sense again…

  • @ccrogers15 Stupid children like you are the reason why gaming is dying. Without indies, you idiots would got nothing on PS4. Mark my words!

  • I’m a whiny entitled American, how dare Europe get something better than me?! They can’t! I forbid it! European players always get cool stuff like Pong while I’m stuck playing crappy sports game like the 2014 Sports Game of the Year, fricken basketball! Ugh! I hate basketball! At least give us the $60 upgraded version if I have to suffer through anything that’s not Watch_Dogs for free! Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!

Thank you, Sony. Now I can finally sell my copy of NBA 2K14 to a friend that’s been wanting to play and still enjoy it myself! And maybe even play it with him too. And I’ll tell him how to download the original/day-one rosters and/or set his console to the beginning of the season so he can still platinum the game with NBA Today games.

Keep up the good work. I’ll renew soon.

  • Halarious that these PS3 people complain when they have been spoiled rotten forever.. Then about 6 months up to the PS4 release and all the way until now they get a insane selection of games and whineo.. No offense but the next gen is now and Sony finally giving PS4 users 2 games instead of 1 is great news.. They ONE indie game I thought about buying was Trine 2 (and trials somewhat) but I was waiting for it to go on a flash sale.. There are giving it out with another game. Awesome news and I know from here on out it will get better and better…

  • Oh and the whiners on NBA 2k14 .. Are you kidding me? Even if your not a fan of sports you can’t complain. Some people LOVE sports games as proven by sales, and they have the best replayability ever.. I can play Madden, The Show, Nba, etc for alteast couple months straight until I’m bored.. Infamous is a great game, done in month.. KZSF.. done less then month… Could go on and on.. Keep giving out sports game and to PS4 users! : ) I traded in my 2k but would love to have it back on 4

  • i was waiting for Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. thanks!

  • More subscribers = more indie games. Gee, thanks Sony.
I’m letting my subcription expire. The last decent game they had was 3 months ago (Batman).
I’m going back to Gamefly, they might be more expensive, but they don’t send me random indie games that might have been good in the 1980’s. 3 games unlimited for $35 a month. I bet last year I played 50+ games.
And it really amazes me to see all of these negative comments, you would think someone at Sony would step up and said “Oops Sorry folks, it is to late now, but stay tuned next month, we will make you love us again”
and the people sucking on the Sony Nipple, shame on you. Quit defending them, they are a multi billion dollar company. You seriously going to bend over and take it? You payed $50 for a promised service that you will get all of these features and games. Look at the past IGC’s. We had Uncharted 3, Tomb Raider, Payday, Boarderlands 1 and 2, Batman, Battlefield 3, Devil May Cry, Sleeping Dogs, infamous 1 and 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Bioshock 2 and Infinite, Metro, Remember Me, Dragons Dogma, Grid 2, Kingdoms of Amalur, Deus Ex and many many more… and you guys are just praising Sony for giving us Indie games.

  • this is garbage. if i knew this was going to happen i wouldnt have just redeemed my code for year of psn

  • *sigh* I can get indie games for cheap on pc, I want less games but more AAA titles. And no, I don’t want any more sports games.

  • Trine 2? Wooohoooooooooooooo! The DEMO was AMAZING and what makes it even better is that it’s a 3D game. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO stoked that it’s free. Can’t wait to play this one with the wifey in full 3D glory. Thanks so much Playstation!

  • I can’t wait Playstation Now is gonna be fun for PS1-3 fans A full game library to stream and play woot. Skyrim on PS4 lol score

  • @Matthew Harper will there be a way to purchase games downloaded free, without having to let PS+ expire? For example I was unable to buy Spyro 1-3 in the flash sale because I already had them free from PS+. I currently want to buy Gravity Rush but I can’t. It would be nice to be able to buy games without having to wait, so that they can be played without a Plus Account*.

*My PSP has issues with it’s battery, which resets the time, which makes my PS+ games not work.

  • Stop with the trashy sports games. I’ve been gaming for almost 30 years, and I’ve never once played a sports game and will not start now.

  • @484 Spacerac

You’re not actually expecting an answer, I hope? If so, good luck with that.

    @485 DragonessHera

Plus wasn’t designed with just you in mind. You hate sports games, I hate RPG’s. We both are going to be unhappy sometimes.

  • Are the annual Vita games leaving soon too? I hope *those* at the very least are actually replaced by other retail games and not 3 year old Indie ports that we all already own on Steam

  • @Mando44646

According to the above article, all “long stint” IGC titles are being phased out. On the EU blog, it was confirmed as well.

  • Nice… like the addition of sports games. Is Terraria Crossbuy?

  • A couple things:

    1) Anyone using the word “we” when attempting to justify their opinion regarding their feelings on indie games or any other games coming to PS Plus…just stop it. For instance, just a few comments above me, someone basically stated that “we” already own “3 year old indie ports” on Steam. Give me a break! Do you think most people that own a Playstation product also game on PC? “You” may own one and are therefore unhappy to be seeing indie ports on Playstation platforms, but these ports are brand spanking new to “me,” since I don’t own a gaming rig. If there was no market for indie games on Playstation, these games would not be made and sold to us. The free-market has spoken and it’s clear that enough Playstation platform owners love indie games that Sony should continue to provide that content for sale and through PS Plus. You obviously did not sign up for Plus for indie games, but Sony is not going to stop giving them as part of the IGC because the market says that they shouldn’t. Perhaps you should think about not resubscribing once your subscription expires.

  • @488 i’m sorry but when was the last time a RPG was even on Plus?

  • Great for people that like Rentals tied to their accounts, but how can I remove games that I’ve accidentally ‘purchased’ from my account?! Please let me remove them. I want to be able to buy certain games that I can keep forever on my PSP & PSP Vita that I can’t because they are linked to my account as Rentals. So frustrating. I hate PS+.

  • @479 jibjab. Yes, please let your sub expire. And quit following/commenting on the blog. It will help everyone out. If you think Batman was the last decent game given, something is wrong with you. That game was mediocre at best.

Plus is sooo horrible, but you would be totally fine shelling out $420 a year to rent from GF??? Yeah, ok. All those games you rattle off at the end, those weren’t all given in one week, so you’re kind of skewing your argument in your favor there…and some of the indies have been better than some of those games anyways.

You can’t please everyone all the time. But Sony shouldn’t be trying to please someone like you anytime. Like I said, please, go to Gamefly. Better yet, buy an Xbox.

    2) To those that are upset that NBA2K14 is being offered as a free game for Plus…just stop it. Let’s start with the obvious point…2K14 is a fantastic game, regardless of genre! It sits at an 84 on Metacritic, and only The Show rivals it as a consistently great yearly sports franchise. We constantly ask Sony to give us great games for us to consume through the IGC…with 2K14, they have done exactly that. Further, we ask for variety with the IGC. Although they just gave us PES ’14 last month, prior to that, the last time the IGC had a sports game was NBA Jam…back in December 2012! Clearly, we are not inundated with sports titles, and those stating that we are are misinformed or willfully blind.

  • Cont. from #494

Finally, those complaining about this game due to them not being able to platinum it due to NBA Today…tough. Listen, I love trophies as much as the next guy, but requesting that a game be left off of the IGC because you can’t platinum it is short-sighted and would set an alarming precedent for games coming to the IGC (i.e., should games that have an ultra-rare platinum rate be banned from the IGC because it’s too difficult?). I will only speak for myself…I was VERY heppy to see this quality title come to the IGC. I understand it’s not for everyone (hell, PES wasn’t for me), but to see that Sony was able to secure that sports franchise as an IGC title made me truly excited for the potential of PS Plus content.

  • Cont. from #495

    3) As for the changes that are incoming in July, I personally like this change. What I particularly like is that Sony is making it more predictable regarding when we are getting games and that we are getting them all at one time at the beginning of the month. Also, I actually like that they are removing the “evergreen” titles. Sony gets ripped for not replacing them more often. Better to focus on the six games per month and make sure that they are solid. I believe that any current PS Plus subscriber that views this new arrangement as a “downgrade” is A) naive (did you really think Sony would provide 12 PS3 games upon subscription to the service in perpetuity?) and/or B) just looking to be outraged about something today (complainer, you already have the evergreen titles that you’re raving about losing and will keep them as long as you’re a subscriber…so what’s your boggle?). PS4 owners should especially be pumped for the extra game per month as well. This parity should also encourage gamers to migrate to the PS4.

  • @491 (kazekaine1) – Borderlands 2 is an Action/Shooter RPG…we got that in December 2013. Dragon’s Dogma was in the IGC in November 2013 as well.

  • I am glad Trine 2 is going to be free for PS+. Not so big on the others personally, but I have no room to complain. I like the variety and I often try games I would not normally play thanks to PS+. I am curious about something, did we lose Sleeping Dogs because of the new version release. I had downloaded it, but cannot redownload in my list since the new one came out. I also noticed a lot of titles in my list got moved. Mostly things I downloaded from PS+ years ago, but some I bought.

  • Notice the complete list there’s nothing to appeal a RPG player in six month ( 7 if they aren’t interested in shooters). dont see much variety there. and i don’t see how the remove the evergreen titles are a good move as the never disrupted the flow of games been added to the IGC, last year SR3, Human Revolution, Machinarium for ps3 and Virtues last reward ,God eater burst for vita where all added along with UC3, LBP karting and XCOM. so i know you can see why people are saying is a disappointment and downgrade as june is now just a normal month.

  • @492 Ujn – Are you talking about the 1 hour trial or having purchased as a PS+ title. If you want to buy it off the store, I think you can use the mobile or PC version of the store. I have not tried on the PS3/Vita, but I remember Oddworld gave me an option for it.
