PlayStation Plus – 2 Titles Per Month for PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th year milestone. PS Plus has evolved a lot as a membership since then. We’ve provided our PS Plus members with numerous exclusive discounts, access to betas, demos and even select games early, and of course, free games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we have built a strong community of gamers around the world.

The excitement around PlayStation 4 has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see how quickly our dedicated community has rallied around the system, adopting and engaging with its features and spreading the word about what makes PS4 the best console available. PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast, Don’t Starve and Mercenary Kings. Since we are always looking to continue evolving PS Plus to be a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games introduced each month with PS Plus. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.

Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free. In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.

Protip: you don’t have to download the game to your hard drive (or memory card) to gain the entitlement — you can also go to the web store, add them to your cart and check out. Once the game says “Purchased” below it when you’re logged in, you’ll be set for the future as long as you’re a PS Plus member.

Members have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, including the Destiny multiplayer beta (for members who have pre-ordered the game), Driveclub PS Plus Edition, Secret Ponchos and more.

Now – Matthew Harper from our Community Team is here to tell you all about June’s lineup! Take it away, Matt:

Plus - Trine 2

Okay, now that you’re all up to speed with PlayStation Plus, let’s go over the games you’ll get this month. Buddy up, because your two PS4 games are best when experienced with a friend (or two). Trine 2: Complete Story is a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and wraps them up in fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save.

On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals. The latest in the franchise features a new Path to Greatness starring the reigning NBA champion LeBron James. Sly Cooper and pals are back in Thieves of Time — since it’s a cross-buy title, Plus members will get both the PS3 and Vita versions next month.

Finally, PS Vita owners get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is a procedurally generated sandbox game where you’ll build crazy structures and fight insane boss monsters, while Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a spin on the traditional 2D platformers of years past – they’ve got the art style and chiptune tracks down, but you can also hop into a third dimension with a nifty jetpack. Jetpacks are cool.

Watch the video below to see June’s lineup in action.

  • People need to calm down about the 3 PS3 “Fixtures” that they aren’t getting. Take a moment and do some research. Last year the “fixtures” (Uncharted 3, XCOM, and LBP Karting) were announced at the start of E3. This was in addition to a June Plus update that included Deus Ex, Machinarium, Saints Row 3, Zero Escape, and Gods Eater Burst.

Wait a few days to see if there’s a surprise coming. If it doesn’t come, simply enjoy the awesome games you have. No need to complain about the free games service. You can cancel if you don’t like the offerings.

  • Can’t say I like the sound of some of this. It would seem you’re inferring with this post that the yearly IGC games for PS3 are being done away with. While I know Plus is unlikely to continue on PS3 forever, this isn’t something that should be stopped, even if you are downgrading it to only two games per month now.

On the upside, I am glad to hear about two games per month for PS4, however, this begs the question of Driveclub being one of the IGC collection games then. You guys previously stated it would not count towards that, so how is that supposed to work?

  • NBA 2K14? Awesome. Even if you are not into the NBA (watching it), but like playing basketball games then it gets no better than this. Trine 2 the Complete Story and Terraria. 2 titles per platform…what a value! Especially if you own a PS4, PS3, Vita, and PSP (we still get them on IGC from time to time) like I do! PS plus is the best value all around!

  • haha damn the upgrade for NBA ended March 31 :( That would have been awesome.

  • Let me start by saying, I love PSN plus, huge supporter of sony. Don’t like to complain about games we get, sometimes I have them, sometimes I already beat them, and just some are not for me which is fine. But how are you going to give NBA 2K14 after the season? (making the game un-platinumable by the way incase anyone was wondering, the NBA today trophy – win 5 games) why give a game you can’t get all the trophies for to all your subscribers? Than why not just give madden 2010 or NBA 2k11. If you gave it out at the start of the season, like NBA 2k15, it would be great, I would even take mid season.. but at the end of season? Gotta say not one of your best moves. For those that don’t care about trophies I hope you enjoy it. Just wanted to give my opinion

  • Shinra_Soldier7

So the yearly titles are gone now? I am personally disappointed with that choice, I always felt the yearly titles were a very important aspect for PS Plus.

  • Sly Cooper 4 and Mutant Mudds are both cross buy, I just hope that the Mutant Mudd developer can get the Cross Save to Vita to work. It’s been broken since launch, and only gives a generic error when trying to upload or download the save to the cloud on the Vita. The PS3 version seems to work just fine.

  • I can honestly say that these comments are ridiculous. Sony is giving us free games and people still complain. Everyone has different tastes for games so obviously they can please everyone every time they give us a free game for the month. Playstation plus is a PERK meaning you have the option of buying it or not. You can’t expect online multiplayer to go on for free with the console’s increasing popularity so it was just matter of time that it was something we had to pay for. On top of online multiplayer, discounts in the PSN store, and 3gbs of game save storage, THEY TELL US THEY’RE GIVING US 1 EXTRA FREE GAME PER MONTH YOU STILL COMPLAIN. WOW

  • No more indie games plz

  • Nothing for me next month. I prefer JRPG, anime / moe games…

  • Aww, for some reason I saw Spelunky when I read Terraria and got really excited for a second.

I’m not really into the selection this month, but mind the format change. Luckily, I plan to play Watch Dogs all month so none of it really matters that much to me at the moment. Hopefully July has some games I want, well, besides Sly Cooper, I’ll probably play that on Vita.

  • I love this whole “I live in the U.S. so we should get the best PS Plus games” attitude…
Why can’t people just appreciate what they have!?

  • smoothboarder540

Not a great month for me. Pixeljunk looks kinda cool and I may try NBA 2k14, but I already own Terraria and Sly. Even I’m getting tired of the platformers so mutant muddy looks completely uninteresting. Trine 2 was already free on ps3, which is a pretty cheap tactic.

I really hope those big 1st party games for ps3 and vita will be replaced with comparable games quickly if the usual June overhaul isn’t happening this year. Without that I’m going to have reconsider my plus subscription.

  • Sports and Platform for the PS3. May give Sly Cooper a try. May was the 1st time in PS+ that I didn’t download and keep a game, and this might be 2 in a row.

  • This seems…..slightly disappointing. But not as bad as April and May’s lineup. I already own Sly 4 and I can at least play 2k14 with my friend. Terraria Vita might be nice though…

  • Another crapy sports game, more indie games(crap), only interesting thing here is sly cooper and Trine 2. Fingers crossed for a good sale…

  • @82

Beyond two souls did not sell well short after it’s release it was at 20 bucks now if you look around you can find it for 20. I don’t want to drop 20 bucks in a game where I will beat it than never touch it again.

  • For everyone wondering why we are complaining: Games with Gold is starting to look like a more appealing offering now given the consistency of what is being released if THIS is what we get with our PS+ subscription.

And to counter the complaints on indie games: None of the games released have been anywhere near as close (with outlast being the only exception) to the caliber of similarly priced titles such as Journey or The Unfinished Swan. If we got more games like that as opposed to the heaping pile of ‘Meh’ that we have been getting, the loud few on my side of this debate would be satisfied.
Also, this is the sole reason I have a PS+ subscription! I couldn’t give a darn about multiplier or any of the other perks that come with the sub. I’m willing to bet that a lot of the other disappointed members also feel the same way.

  • @ Baccra Just who do you think you are dictating what games do and “don’t” “belong” in the IGC. You’re not the only one that utilizes Playstation Plus.

I don’t even play sports games, but I think it’s pretty awesome they’re offering stuff for sports gamers too.

Also people like Mercenary need to realize there’s giving feedback, valid feedback, and then there’s whining and throwing a tantrum. I’ll give you a hint, kiddo, it’s all about your delivery.

Looking forward to Pixeljunk Shooter. Loved those games.

  • You guys kind of shot yourselves in the foot by revealing that Trine 2 was going to be free next month when the PS3 version is currently on sale. I mean, it’s great for me because I save $5 but it’s bad for you guys from a business standpoint.

  • From the Sly Cooper PSN store page: Cross-buy: Purchase of the PS3 version of this game entitles you to the downloadable PS Vita version of this game at no extra cost.

  • Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time alone makes the month worthwhile for me.

  • I love sony but some of you guys are just retarded just because people are complaining this lineup sucks doesn’t mean they aren’t entitled to there opinions because as far as i’m concerned no one is paying for my PS+ sub besides me. FYI This lineup does suck.

  • May for PS3 was sports, platform and figher. June is sports and platform. Maybe a little more variety?

  • I’m not the only person who saw phrase “Starting in July” in the paragraph saying new IGC games will be available from the first Tuesday of each month, right?

Terraria and Mutant Mudd both look interesting, but not really my cups of tea. I also would like something a bit more “bigger” for the Vita than the recent string of indies, but I can imagine the comments if Conception 2 or Monster Monpiece came up. Just one or two non-indies a year would make the subscription more than worth the price (well, if I enjoyed them), but the indies somehow feel more like a string of cheap baubles compared to what the bigger consoles get. I dunno, maybe I’d feel different if I’d actually wanted to play Street Fighter X Tekken.

How about reaching back into the PSOne Classics catalog and bringing out something like Xenogears or the original Twisted Metal? Yes, they’re even lower on the price list, but they’d feel more worthwhile to me and it’s something the PS4 can’t do right now if I remember right.

  • Great update. Even though I have half of the games, I love the selection.

You know, PS+ is less than $5 a month, so I’ll keep renewing as long as I get that $50 value each year. So far that amount has been easily surpassed every 3 or 4 months, so it still is a ridiculously good deal for me.

  • cool changes!

Vita’s lineup still sucks though. Give us something other than Indies! Indies are nice, but so are AAAs and such. This is 3 months now I believe with only Indies on Vita and it really shows how much you ignore complaints in these comments. Its pretty obvious people want more variety.

I hate basketball, but Im sure some will enjoy that on PS3. Sly Cooper is fantastic on PS3 as well so I recommend that to hose who have not yet played it.

Glad to see more options on PS4 as well. Trine is the first PS4 IGC game since launch that I am actually interested in to play

  • I’m disappointed because this policy change is a huge downgrade for PS3 owners, where the best games to put on playstation plus are currently available. Goes from 39 free games a year to 24, a 15 game difference. And goes from 12 games available at any given point in time down to 2, so there is much, much less reason for a PS3 owner who doesn’t have plus to subscribe. I just subscribed for the first time this year, and I would not have done it if there were only 2, rather than 12 games immediately available upon subscribing. Even looking at the overall change, this is clearly a downgrade of what we’re getting, providing less free games per year. It would definitely help if there are some additional yearly games, that remain available in addition to the 2 per month. As for this month’s content, it is OK, but definitely in the bottom half of months since I started my subscription.

  • Really happy with the ps3 game selection ! Great job guys.
PS4 game selection is ok .

  • awesomeninja492

Wow. I’ve been a Plus member since November, and this is the first month where I know I’m going to be playing everything.
    Good job Sony!

  • ps+ isn’t free, free means i pay nothing, but iirc, you need to buy a subscription to get access to these games, so people can complain all they want.

  • The amount of whining on these posts is amazing. Wah I don’t like this game, or wahh I don’t like that. Sony doesn’t owe you anything here people. They are selecting games that will broadly appeal to their subscribers. After giving us nearly a hundred games over the program you would think that people would be happy with anything…

tl;dr: No one cares if you don’t like this month’s games, or have completed them all. This isn’t a services *just* for *you*.

  • Great update. I can’t be happy enough

  • you could easily throw in games from psp, ps2 and ps1 in addition to this?

  • Awesome month…been wanting to try out the latest 2K14 but never had the time to devote to buying int for full price. Happy to mess around with it for free. Kids will love Sly….having Mickey and now Sly added the past few months have been great!

People…why are you complaining about the annual??? The last two years they haven’t even announced them until E3 week…

  • I only play single player games.I have plus only for the free games and discounts.I think it may be time to end my membership.

  • WOw! PS+ to vita manage to be worst than may… And i pay the PS+ cause of Vita…

  • I’m gonna say it as it is (not that its needed as its been repeated time and time again on these ps+ posts):

Stop whining. 1 $60 (service fee) != the right to whine about free stuff. With this new model we are getting 12 * 6 = 72 free games a year. [not every game will wet your pallet – move onto your backlogs]

    Perspective people, Perspective.

@Sony, thanks again for making this service awesome. The games offered are amazing. Keep up the HARD work.

(people must not realize how much work is behind organizing this type of stuff)

    signed, a non-entitled subscriber.

  • Amazing month! I have no interest in 2k14 (might have played ps4 version but not ps3), and I already own Sly, but still.

I was just about to buy Mutant Mudds! Terraria for vita is cross-save with PS3 right? Trine 2 (thankfully on PS4 cuz I own PS3 version). Shooter Ultimate – yes please!

Really like the idea of this new format, but that might be because I own all three platforms. I could see PS3 only owners being a little disappointed maybe. We were getting more than 2/month for PS3 right?

  • @115, i’m sure, Sony would like to make more $$ on Beyond Two Souls before they offer it for free.

  • Nice variety. I’m looking forward to it. I also like the change in download policy. ( I think.. )

  • Very nice update. I enjoyed the Trine 2 demo, and it is gorgeous on PS4 in 3D!

  • I have a question though, why do you give NBA 2014 on June and PES on May?
NBA playoff is almost over, most teams are eliminated already.
Does it mean PS Plus staff secretly support Miami Heat (LeBron to be exact) to be a champion again? :P

    Good choice of genre though.
I am sad because PS3 gets less IGC games this month since PS3 is still my main gaming console.

  • No complaints here. I’m like the variety and anything to make plus a better service is always welcome here.

  • Shinra_Soldier7

@132 The Plus managers for EU are confriming on Twitter that there will be no more yearly titles.

I love plus as I always have. I just do not agree with the taking out of the yearly titles due to their importance to the Plus program. They were a good selling point for it in my opinion.

  • Freakin’ pumped for this month! I don’t own any of these games yet and I have been waiting to buy Trine 2 Complete Story. I love that we are moving to the format of our month of games up front, no more having to wait for the games that I want to play. I think that the new format is going to make each month more exciting, but not holding me back from checking out the weekly sales.

Can’t wait to boot up my PS4 next month for Trine, and throw Terraria on my Vita. Thanks PlayStation Team!

  • Some people will never be happy….. Sony has just committed to giving us at least 72 games a year at $50 that comes to just $0.694 a title and yes some we might already own and some will be less interesting than others but at that price point who really cares! We still get all the other benefits that come with the subscription and to top it off they have always added extra little offerings here and there because they are just that awesome. THANK YOU SONY!

  • I was expecting Dragon’s Crown, but my son loves Terraria so I’m not going to complain.

  • ch8882002usnavy

I have a suggestion to help tame those complaining of what games are given on what platform. What about each game that has multiple version give PS+ members the choice of what platform the will download it to. Like if I wanted NBA 2K14 on PS4 instead of PS3 I could download the PS4 version. Or if I want Sly on Vita to go with the re-released trilogy then I could download that version. Just a suggestion.

I for one have been more than happy with all the games I get. I own all 3 of the included systems that PS+ services and hardly have time to play all of the games.
