PlayStation Plus – 2 Titles Per Month for PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th year milestone. PS Plus has evolved a lot as a membership since then. We’ve provided our PS Plus members with numerous exclusive discounts, access to betas, demos and even select games early, and of course, free games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we have built a strong community of gamers around the world.

The excitement around PlayStation 4 has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see how quickly our dedicated community has rallied around the system, adopting and engaging with its features and spreading the word about what makes PS4 the best console available. PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast, Don’t Starve and Mercenary Kings. Since we are always looking to continue evolving PS Plus to be a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games introduced each month with PS Plus. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.

Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free. In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.

Protip: you don’t have to download the game to your hard drive (or memory card) to gain the entitlement — you can also go to the web store, add them to your cart and check out. Once the game says “Purchased” below it when you’re logged in, you’ll be set for the future as long as you’re a PS Plus member.

Members have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, including the Destiny multiplayer beta (for members who have pre-ordered the game), Driveclub PS Plus Edition, Secret Ponchos and more.

Now – Matthew Harper from our Community Team is here to tell you all about June’s lineup! Take it away, Matt:

Plus - Trine 2

Okay, now that you’re all up to speed with PlayStation Plus, let’s go over the games you’ll get this month. Buddy up, because your two PS4 games are best when experienced with a friend (or two). Trine 2: Complete Story is a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and wraps them up in fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save.

On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals. The latest in the franchise features a new Path to Greatness starring the reigning NBA champion LeBron James. Sly Cooper and pals are back in Thieves of Time — since it’s a cross-buy title, Plus members will get both the PS3 and Vita versions next month.

Finally, PS Vita owners get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is a procedurally generated sandbox game where you’ll build crazy structures and fight insane boss monsters, while Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a spin on the traditional 2D platformers of years past – they’ve got the art style and chiptune tracks down, but you can also hop into a third dimension with a nifty jetpack. Jetpacks are cool.

Watch the video below to see June’s lineup in action.

Don’t have a vita and not getting one since it is one account only. So here is my rundown of PS3 PS4.

    PS4:

Trine 2: I am a sucker for puzzle platformers. Super excited.
Pixel Junk: Never played any of these games but always seemed cool.

    PS3:

NBA 2K14: not a fan of basketball. I would love WWE 2K14 to come on PS plus hopefully this shows 2K is supportive of PS plus. I hear it is a great basketball game so it should be great for NBA fans.
Sly cooper: Never played sly games but usually love platformers.

  • So, basically, this awesome service turned into games with gold? No more yearly tittles (games with gold) and two games per console (games with gold). This service used to be awesome, oh well, guess i am stuck with it since i like to play online.

  • face it, sony placed ps4 multiplayer behind ps+. anyone wants to multiplayer on ps4 need to get ps+ regardless of ps+ game quality. ps+ game quality is gonna go downhill for both ps3, ps4, and vita. live with it.

in fact, sony doesnt need to give you guys anything as some sony fanboy claimed. i am starting to believe this is the trend now. i am not going to renew my ps+ when it expire, if it continues to my ps+ expire in Jan 2015.

i will also wait and see if microsoft have any pleasant announcement in E3 and consider move multiplayer to xbone and let my ps4 be singleplayer machine.

  • The last good game through IGC was Batman… 3 months ago.
    IGC Indie Game Crap.

  • Anyone that is a paying subscriber to a service is entitled to complain about a service since they, well, pay for the service. Complaining drives a company to change their product so that it may evolve into a better more competitive product. Companies who listen to feedback depend on complaints in this way. Sony in particular has to depend on complaints this way. Especially now that he Xbox One has had the camera removed from the package and the price cut, the PS+ offerings are essential to those who have not yet entered the market and must choose between a PS4 and PS+ or a Xbox One and Xbox Live.

I for one am beginning to wonder if I made a poor choice. So complain away I will until the product and the service are up to my standards as a paying customer and subscriber lest I cancel my subscription and sell my console for Microsoft’s offerings. Again, I say that many in my boat probably feel exactly the same way as I do.

  • @116

Games For Gold has not even been close to the quality of PSplus. Best to speak for yourself on that one.

  • Nothing for me i dont like anything but TERRIRA like OMG must have

  • SLEEPLESS_KNIGHT

As someone who owns and plays PS4, PS3 & Vita I really like this format! Gives me free stuff to play on all 3 platforms every month. And also people don’t forget, Sony still may yet have more free game announcements for PS+ at E3 as well.

  • Now here comes the interesting part. In Mexico we already have Sly Cooper since it was given instead of PES 2014 (can’t blame Konami since soccer its bigger than anything else here). Does that mean Mexico is getting only 5 games this month? How’s that fair?

  • I was expecting dragon’s crown for this month kinda dissapointed

  • To those people complaining about this:

With PS+ you get 6 free games a month if you own a PS3, PS4, and Vita. That’s 72 free games a year. Oh, woe is me that I don’t like 2 or 3 of the games offered for this month! You have 70 other free games coming that may be more to your liking.

72 games a year, for $50 a year. It’s an insane deal. Not to mention all of the sales/discounts Plus members get as well.

Do I like NBA2K? No, I don’t. Do I own Sly, Terraria, Trine 2, etc, etc? Yes. Am I going to complain about that for this month? No. Why should I? I’m getting more games than I buy in a year for $50 a year. I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t buy every game that releases. At most, I buy one or two games a month if there is a game releasing I’m interested in. So I probably buy about 10-12 games a year. If there are some awesome PSN or Steam sales, I’ll hop on those as well. Plus is giving me more games than I have time to play. This new change is pretty sweet, especially if you own more than one PlayStation device. I own a PS3, PS4, and Vita. My $50 a year is well spent.

  • FINALLY Sly Cooper has been added to Plus. Ive been waiting for this. June is going to be a GOOD month. Overall solid lineup

  • Nice, didn’t expect to get Terraria!

  • Xbone is getting spartan ops next month, you know a “halo” game. Xbox just now changed its policy to better compete with plus. Should be an interesting time for multiplatform owners.

  • Everything on the list is great but NBA 2K should not be on the list. Most of those who want have bought it. If it was PS4 I could see reason for it but for PS3 we could have gotten a game more like Sly that flew under the radar but was nothing short of amazing. Also I hate to do this but EU got Dragon’s Crown which is a game every Vita owner on here including me would like to see added. The Vita is heading toward indies, a few first parties, and heavy Japanese third party support. Speaking solely on quality and amount of content, Dragon’s Crown is just better than any of the past few months of PS+ including this one. Add the facts that it is not cross buy, is a new IP, and has not gone down heavily in price and it’s a no-brainer. I and others obviously hope to see it in the near future.

  • halo spartan ops was a 6 on IGN it is a top down shooter with bad mechanics.

  • Lots of freebies this month. Unfortunately, not a one I’m interested in. Oh well, I’m sure Watch_Dogs will keep me busy for awhile. Hopefully July’s line-up is a lot more satisfying.

  • my ps plus expires in a few days, i dont wanna renew with this quality of games for the vita. i took ps plus as i am a vita user only, so these small titles mostly indie killed all my interest. i am tired when there us only indie games on the vita, why cant u give us some of ur bigger titles, sly cooper looks nice, aprt that i dont think i wanna play any. until i get a game that i really want, i will wait

  • Rule #1 of the internet era: You will NEVER please everybody. I think Sony is doing a good job with PS +.

  • they’re getting dark souls as well i wish we had gotten dark souls :(

  • Sony <3
    Thanks for the awesome service

  • I really like this! I would have never thought a game like 2K14 would end up on ps+ even if I don’t really like it, it’s just crazy how much variety they manage to provide. The vita offering is awesome! I almost bought both of those but thought I should wait it out to see if they’d end up on ps+. I really appreciate this service even if the games aren’t to my liking. Sony’s doing it better than everyone else! Can’t wait for E3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We probably got more games overall with the old format, but this new format does probably increase the number of PS4 titles by a few. It’s probably a much easier ‘contract’ to work out as well if Sony will only offer the game for ‘free’ for a month. It might be frustrating for players who aren’t diligent with ‘buying’ the games. In the end, I’m all for it if this setup paves the way for better/bigger PS4 IGC titles. Maybe you can convince yourselves to increase the content in the Driveclub PS+ edition as well while you’re at it? That game is looking seriously more gimped than we were originally led to believe…

  • I was a little disappointed at first, but I’m okay now!

Thieves in Time looks to be fun since I’ve already beaten the first two.

You know, I don’t actually mind these sports games being handed out, as I could actually play them with a friend sometime, who knows? The two vita titles are very good but sadly are restricted to JUST the vita. Thanks for handing out a little bit of everything Sony.

I get two more games to stockpile on my PS4 games when I get one, list even though I’ve played through all of shooter one and a little of shooter 2. Trine 2 should serve ANOTHER easy plat for me when I get to it ;)

That’s about it, oh and I’ve kinda been letdown by the past couple of months with PS+ even though I’m happy that a lot of people got to try good games! Except each of the Full Games were ones that I have previously bought during the winter sale, at least but if you want to revive some older DLC games to throw in, then that’s fine too.

I’ve just been hoping for new content and that’s exactly what i’m getting, thank you very much. I know we can’t all have our ideal game of the month every month, but compared to “other” programs, you seem to have PS+ down pat.

  • I think i rather have Terminator Salvation over all of these games put together.

  • Amazing!

  • Did the ps3 just get nerfed? Also more sports…..joy, hoping for a nice sale to make up for this.

  • Waiting to see with which games they replace lbpk and uc3. Hopefully something good.

  • the argument that ps+ for ps3 sucks at the beginning? that does not fly for p4, because ps+ was never forced upon ps3 owner. but ps+ is forced upon ps4 owner (if you want to multiplayer your own internet connect, then you need to get ps+ which is 50/yr).

ps+ for ps3 sucks at the beginning, but at least i have choice not to sub. ps+ for ps4 has NO NO NO reason to suck. if ps+ for ps4 continue to suck while xboxone is getting better. i am moving my multiplayer experience to xboxone.

and i am ps3 and ps4 who stayed up and down with sony and psn all this years. but since multiplayer is no longer free on ps4, i am free to decide whether i want my multiplayer experience in ps4 or xboxone. i have no problem turning my ps4 into singleplayer machine since hardware is good. but for multiplayer, hardware is not everything. i can wait and see how xbone is doing while i multiplayer in ps4 (my ps+ expire Jan 2015) or ps3 (multiplayer is free)

  • Those who only have a vita are doomed…. not gonna renew ps plus and focus on retail..

  • I worry about the future of gaming, too much self entitlement and whining in the community.

  • Awesome I was just thinking about buying Thieves in time, is the Vita version free too since it’s cross buy?

  • To those wondering why there are a lot of complaints:
Ps3 owners (the vast majority of people)
Reasonable expectation based on past experience: 6 (six!) new games in June, at least 3 of them being top quality AAA titles, the replacement yearly games.
The reality: 2 games, neither of them top quality AAA titles, plus an announced 1/3 reduction in future games available.
That, my friends, is a recipe for disappointment. If Sony didn’t want that disappointment, it should have tempered expectations in advance.

Even for PS4 owners, the reasonable expectation was for 2 new games in June, at least one of which would be something close to a AAA title, the replacement for Resogun as a more-than-one-month game. Instead, it is 2 games (the same amount expected), both of which are repackaged indies that have been long available on every other platform. Still a failure to meet expectations.

And no one expects anything good for Vita, so at least Sony met that expectation.

  • This is phenomenal! Terraria is one of the best games on Vita, Trine is superb (and beautiful), and PixelJunk Shooter was one of that year’s best PS3 games. Top that off with NBA 2k14: a game that has to be the best sports sim ever… I am amazed. I have most of these games already (albeit. on other platforms like Terraria on PS3 and NBA on PS4) but this is still an incredible lineup. I can’t wait to play Sly!

  • I’m honestly not all impressed.

So, when the IGC first launched, the mainstays I believe were LBP2 and inFAMOUS 2, and WipEout HD. Then it launches on the Vita with its mainstays being UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss, WipEout 2048, and Gravity Rush. Now, almost a year after it launched on the PS3, you decided to change those games to UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception Single-Player, LBP Karting, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. This gave us the assumption that you would be switching the Vita titles as well (not even to LBP?), but it seems like that’s not going to happen.

Also, I’ve always wondered – how does the IGC work on the developer/publisher side of things? Like, how do they get money from the games being offered? Do they have to give the OK first? And if it’s from NISA or someone who localizes games from Japan, do they have to get in touch with the Japanese developers first?

  • I wonder what the Latin America region will get considering we got Sly Cooper last month. Also 2 games are great but I’m tired of indie stuff on the Vita. Europe gets amazing games like Muramasa and Hotshots Golf while we get old stuff like Limbo.

  • I meant to say “not all that impressed”. I wish there was an Edit function…

  • Will they replace uc3 and lbpk with new games?

  • Wow this great. I was waiting on news for Terraria. I was hoping for a sale on Vita, hopefully it goes on sale soon. Though I was curious what decides how games become on the Vita platform. I would greatly enjoy the games Edge of Space and Rogue Legacy on Vita.

I can’t wait to play NBA2K14 on PS3. I only own NFL Blitz and Skate 3 for sports games.

  • Loving this direction. Refresh all the games once a month instead 1-2 games per week and not having to look at the same games for 12 months is going to be nice!

Can’t wait for Trine 2, Terraria, NBA2K14 (saves me $$ from having to get the PS4 version), and PixelJunk Shooter!

  • Those games for ps vita are a shame.. I won’t renew the subscription for ps plus.

  • @Lefoul-123

    No.

    They terminated the yearly games.

  • @187 They slid a 3rd one in there. (unless of course you already own it like I do)

  • Great month ahead!

  • I wonder what latin america will get instead of Sly Cooper, since they got it already last month because they did not want to give PES 2014 for free there.

  • Can’t believe there is this much complaining, come on guys, its FREE games…

  • Wishlist.
PS4: Child of Light, Octodad: Dadliest Catch and InFAMOUS: Second Son,
Vita: FEZ, Tearaway, Guacamelee and Sound Shapes
PS3: Beyond: Two Souls, Splinter Cell Blacklist, God of War: Ascension, Catherine, Max Payne 3, SSX, GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, Bayonetta and Brutal Legend.

  • This is my first post on the blog, I read your articles every week though. I must say that I am a huge supporter of this. I do not think you guys should take to heart all those people who complain about the free games. Playstation is nice enough to give away many great titles, and it seems a lot of people take the generosity for granted. Great job, keep up the good work, great idea on how to handle the IGC.

  • Sad to get another sport game this month. Please don’t add another sport game next month.

  • I think this update the best in a very long time. I like that we get more games for the PS4 and I like that more people will get a chance to play Sly because you can never have enough Sly. Also NBA2K14 is a great title to receive for free, it’s a great quality game.
