PlayStation Plus – 2 Titles Per Month for PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th year milestone. PS Plus has evolved a lot as a membership since then. We’ve provided our PS Plus members with numerous exclusive discounts, access to betas, demos and even select games early, and of course, free games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we have built a strong community of gamers around the world.

The excitement around PlayStation 4 has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see how quickly our dedicated community has rallied around the system, adopting and engaging with its features and spreading the word about what makes PS4 the best console available. PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast, Don’t Starve and Mercenary Kings. Since we are always looking to continue evolving PS Plus to be a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games introduced each month with PS Plus. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.

Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free. In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.

Protip: you don’t have to download the game to your hard drive (or memory card) to gain the entitlement — you can also go to the web store, add them to your cart and check out. Once the game says “Purchased” below it when you’re logged in, you’ll be set for the future as long as you’re a PS Plus member.

Members have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, including the Destiny multiplayer beta (for members who have pre-ordered the game), Driveclub PS Plus Edition, Secret Ponchos and more.

Now – Matthew Harper from our Community Team is here to tell you all about June’s lineup! Take it away, Matt:

Plus - Trine 2

Okay, now that you’re all up to speed with PlayStation Plus, let’s go over the games you’ll get this month. Buddy up, because your two PS4 games are best when experienced with a friend (or two). Trine 2: Complete Story is a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and wraps them up in fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save.

On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals. The latest in the franchise features a new Path to Greatness starring the reigning NBA champion LeBron James. Sly Cooper and pals are back in Thieves of Time — since it’s a cross-buy title, Plus members will get both the PS3 and Vita versions next month.

Finally, PS Vita owners get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is a procedurally generated sandbox game where you’ll build crazy structures and fight insane boss monsters, while Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a spin on the traditional 2D platformers of years past – they’ve got the art style and chiptune tracks down, but you can also hop into a third dimension with a nifty jetpack. Jetpacks are cool.

Watch the video below to see June’s lineup in action.

  • Looking forward to this month! I hope for some surprise at E3 ))

  • oversevethousand

This is pretty cool news, though so this means there’s no longer a permanent IGC? I’m not sure if I see the logic there – that gives new subscribers some games for their specific right away, whereas this still only gives them two.

That aside, six games a month in addition to discounts and everything else is awesome.

  • How about this… Instead of those games, just give me a Duke Nukem game, it’s gotta be better than this crap.

  • Really not good for ps vita bad games this month again, but is good for the others

  • Holy… this is just… bad.

With the anniversary of plus, E3 around the corner etc… one would expect Sony would want to make a splash/have a good showing in some way this month.

It’s hard to believe an update month with this many new titles can be this bad.

Over half a year into the PS4 lifespan and we still don’t have a single PS4 game in the IGC!!! (Indies do not = PS4 caliber game).

I guess now that plus is mandatory for online, Sony doesn’t care or feel like they need to put any effort into the IGC.

Several months of nothing good followed by a massive, disappointing update… way to limp into E3.

Very disappointing as usual Plus team.

  • Awesome, already have sly cooper and Trine 2. But look forward to the others. Especially Mutant Mudds, love those types of games!

  • I’m sure I’m in the minority here but THANK YOU for including more sports games recently. First PES 2013 and now NBA 2K14. I’ll be a member for life if you keep this up!

  • I really like that you are going to the EU model of getting all games the first week of the month.

I like sports games, sad it’s the one sport I can’t stand.

Can you break this down Barney style? “In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out”

Does this mean that the evergreen titles are going to be replaced with different titles (E3?) or will they just disappear into the ether?

  • awesome!!!! Thanks sony!!!!

  • I was a strong fan of PS+ for some time now. I had both Sony’s and competitors consoles, but no other paid service gave me as much value as PS+. Since a couple of months, actually, since the launch of the PS4, I felt like the trend is shifting.

Before, as multiplayer was free on all Sony’s platforms, people subscribing to PS+ needed a good reason to do so. AND Sony gave us that reason. All the free games every month was seriously awesome. There was some spectacular things like giving away Jet Set Radio for Vita the day of its release, or giving away games that were sometimes not even a year old. There was tremendous value in PS+.

Now that the PS4 requires PS+ for online multiplayer, I think Sony doesn’t feel like they need to make people WANT to get PS+ as much as before. PS4 owners who want to play multiplayer games don’t have a choice to subscribe, so there are less reasons to make the service attractive in general, as many will subscribe anyway.

To me, PS+ went from a more than awesome service, to being only an “ok” one. Sad.

  • Unlike a lot of people it seems I rarely bite the bullet on games I don’t really really want so I’ve never played any of these titles besides a little nba so this is a great month for me thank you sony, going from meh month only having limbo for me to nearly every game this month I want to play.

  • Not gonna lie, I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t get Dragons Crown for the Vita like EU did. Still, two games a month is certainly a nice surprise! You guys definitely keep making this service better and better. I’ve never played Terraria before, so maybe I’ll like it. Either way, I’ll be crossing my fingers that we get something awesome to replace Gravity Rush and Uncharted for the next year. It’ll be hard to find an equal replacement for those games.

Anyway, thanks for being awesome PlayStation!

  • DragoNsChampioN

Less games for ps3 but i appreciate the auality! thieves in time WOOOOOOOOO! nba meh. i like basketball but not nba so much. looks like it MIGHT be visually friendly enough for me to try to play. PES2014 is NOT playable by any means because theres too much you need to know, but its nice to watch.

THANK YOU, FINALLY PUTTING GAMES UP AT THE BEGINNING!:D sad its not starting this month but its ok. sly coming last i bet:(. still, thank you playstation!:)

  • Yikes, so many spoiled and entitled children on here. Your parents must be proud.

  • @Mercenary09 – seriously, you’re complaining about 6 free games a month?
@CapJSheridan – Sly Cooper on Vita was just on PS+ within the past 6 months. Any Sly on PS3 is cross-buy, so you’ll also get the Vita version.

I own all 3 systems – and for $50/year, I’m getting 72 games/year? How do you complain about that? Xbox is gearing up for 24/year. Those “crappy indie” titles usually outshine many AAA releases. Awesome service – great time to be a PS gamer.

  • I’m not super excited about the lineup. Pretty much I don’t play any sport games. I will play the Vita games but its no big deal considering I got 2 years worth of PS Plus for $60 when they went on sale its more than fair. I would assume they’ll have another 6 games that’ll stay year round once E3 comes though (probably another 2 for each system ‘to b fair’ as they say). PS4 is getting there but like all new consoles it takes a while to get a good game collection built up. I want to see more RPG though on PS4 & Vita. It’d b awesome if they add in some great AAA titles to the PS+ sales next month though, which they usually do on the month of E3. If not though Ill be looking forward to July.

  • Europe gets Dragon’s Crown for vita and NA gets pixel: the game, c’mon. Also, Latin America got Sly Cooper instead of PES 2014, we’re getting anything else now that Sly Cooper is in the instant game collection?

  • Nothing good for me this coming month. Im not really into sports games. but i think my friends will enjoy 2k14. its my first nba game on ps3.

  • Glad to see the switch to all games being available on the first Tuesday of the month, but the selection this month is pretty dull. Don’t like sports games, and it would be nice to get an actual AAA title for the PS4 instead of an endless stream of indie games (some of which are good, but still…). Maybe something like Knack which reviewed poorly and I assume didn’t sell too well, but might still be fun as a free title.

Not that anyone at Sony actually reads any of this…

  • I hope to see some steeper discounts on a broader selection of titles (Vita, PS3, PS4) in the future to offset the relatively weak free selection of titles that we’ve had in recent months.

  • It’s kind of amazing how much people expect for $4 a month. Take that money to your local video game store and see how far you get.

I don’t play an ounce of multiplayer, and I’m still extremely happy with PS Plus. It’s an amazingly valuable complement to the games I buy at release. And that’s kind of the point. Everyone’s financial situation is different, of course, but if there’s a big game you’re dying to play and you’re not a middle-schooler with a tight allowance, go buy the damn thing. Sitting around waiting for it on Plus and whining every month seems like a weird strategy. You’re going to be out of luck more often than not. Sony and its partners are still in the business of selling video games, after all.

Anyway, getting all the games on the first Tuesday of the month is great. Looking forward to it.

  • WOW. EXTREMELY disappointed. And on the month of E3 you guys couldn’t have anything better than re-releases? For christ sakes, there is NOTHING on ps4 right now. First the Order is delayed till next year, now a preview of a boring month? These games should be out by now, it’s getting ridiculous.

    Helldivers
    Secret Ponchos
    N++
    Hohokum
    1001 spikes
    Hotline Miami 2

  • Just want to mention that I like the changes. 6 games per month = 72 games per year. That’s more than we’ve ever gotten before, even when you include the evergreen titles.

So these changes are definitely for the positive. As long as you are a long-term PS+ member (and why on earth wouldn’t you be?!?!??!) these are all good changes. Yeah we’re not going to get a heap of games in June like we did last year, but that’s fine because we’re now getting 6 games per month. In the long run we’re definitely coming out ahead.

And Trine 2 was a great choice for the extra PS4 game this month! Love it!

  • Two Questions

First is Secret ponchos going to be the next plus game since it said look forward to it in the future???

Also I am trying to understand the whole idea of rotating the older games out of the PS3 collection I understand the part about PS4 since now 2 games left and 2 are entering. But with the PS3 we have 12 games and if 3 left and 3 enter each month than we would have 9 games still in the collections wondering how those will get phased out with new games. Hopefully we can see some AAA titles in the future. I don’t like all these indie games all the time some are cool but some of them are lackluster.

  • this month is awesome !!! y really wanna play terraria :)

  • @141

Sony isn’t going to make any more money off beyond two souls its sitting on store shelves and not moving much.

  • Good enough but would be better without those indie trashes.

  • Wait what ? SLY COOPER AGAIN ? I got it already for free last month

  • Sly is awesome but already played beat it to no end. NBA…..great….another sports game. So you can give us two sports games in a row but not one RPG in 6 months. We got soccer last month, pick a new genre every month. What’s next? Tennis game?

  • This is badass, good on ya Sony. Looking forward to literally all of it! =D

  • These are total garbage compared to the IGCs that Europe seems to get lately. They get Muramasa, Dragons Crown, Metro Last light, Far Cry 3, MGS Revengence, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Jak and Daxter Trilogy, Catherine, Dynasty Warriors Next, and what does NA get? Games that on the PC side frequently sell for a couple bucks (Trine, Terraria) – Oh and lets not forget a Soccer game for a region that doesn’t particularly like soccer that much.

This months list is beyond lame.

  • @WAR0979 #229

What do you mean no RPGS? Didn’t we get Dragon’s Dogma & some other RPG’s in the last 6 months or less? Yikes it seems like you want new RPGS the moment they’re made to be free for you. Ain’t gonna happen

  • Told people not to expect Knack/Killzone.

This is great for those that want more games for PS4. It seemed logical since Microsoft’s Games with Derp, I mean Gold, is now adding a free Xbone game. I wonder if this means we permanently lose a third free PS3 game every month in favor of the PS4 game.

As a PS3 only gamer at the moment, that hurts me, but it also helps build my collection much more in the future. I ain’t mad.

  • Finally a great month ( meaning a month with game offered that i didnt buy day one )…

    Terraria, mutant mud…wouhou…

Question though, is Pixel junk also for Vita ? a twit of the studio said so, but i havent seen a release date or cross buy info on sony’s side. Would be awesome

  • JosephDUDEhola1

Isn’t thieves in time a crossbuy?
I had already played it, but haven’t finished it. When I bought it, it was a crossbuy (on disc) I have de Vita Version, but it’s good to have the PS3 version back,on vita it doesn’t look as amazing as on PS3.

  • LucasFernandesB

    STOP WITH THE SPORTS!

  • Kind of a sad month for me, after having just renewed my subscription to PlayStation Plus. I already own Sly, I don’t care about sports, and the other 4 I can’t get any access to because I don’t own PS4 or Vita.
Ah well. Hoping some good sales will at least come along.

  • INGENIERO_AZTECA

    what a sad month.

  • Nooooooooooooo, I want 3 ps3 games :(((((((((. It will be fine if you guys give sth other than Indies on PS4 :(. I don’t buy PS4 for Indies , I have had too much on Vita & 3DS already ~~.

  • The changes you’ve made to PS Plus are smart moves! Swapping all games out consistently and predictably each month is a welcome change. Also, two games per month on each system is something I’ve been waiting for since I bought my PS4 plus subscription. If you keep making these kinds of command decisions, you can be sure that your competition will continue to copy you and not the other way around!

  • Kinda frustrating that PS4 is getting ports of previous PS3 PS+ games – but nevertheless I am appreciative that you put games on here that I would never spend money on anyway. Kinda bitter sweet.

  • I saw this coming as soon as Xbox announced 2 xbox one games per month with games with gold. I like Sony’s plus program better and am very happy with this change. Thanks for being on top of things.

  • It’s hard to get disappointed when you look at it like this:

“2 Games each month, that mean 24 games for each platform. If you have all three platofrm, that mean you have access to 72 games just for $50. Holy ****, the value of PS+ become unfathomable to me.”

So you don’t like what came around this month there’s always next month and the month after that. Not to mention we’ll still get random discounts on stuff so seems fine to me. And since it’s always at the start of each month there’s no silliness to deal with. It’s clear to understand what you are getting and when you are getting it.

  • I’m a little disappointed with the games that month, mostly Vita games. I bought my vita about a year ago, when the free games from PSN + were distributed. At that time already subscribed to plus at least 1 year.

My year expires next month and I’m honestly thinking of not renewing immediately if July does not have the most attractive games I prefer to skip this month.

  • THEPOSTMANFROMTX

Losing a game on the PS3 is BAD. All titles available at beginning of month is GOOD.
Making me wait till E3 to announce yearly titles – TRAGIC
AND that better be 3 yearly titles.

  • Awesome! I’ve always wanted to play Mutant Mudds Deluxe so win win..Tho,I am jelly of Europe getting Dragons crown and wish we were getting it…Maybe next month :P

  • Terraria… =) amazing month.

  • With 2 games each for PS4, PS3 & Vita, everyone can be roundly dissatisfied with the offerings – there is no bias for one platform over the other anymore, everyone gets crap. lol

Having said that, here are my thoughts:

    1) PS4: I dont have it, not interested in the games; but, it is not 1 year yet, so to expect AAA titles is a bit too much. Take what you get.

    2) PS3: Not interested in sports game; but, hey take what you get, huh?

    3) PSVita: Well, there is terraria so, its ok I suppose.

The Indie games, in my opinion should always be cross-buy with Vita, be it for PS4 or PS3. Then potentially you get 3-4 games for Vita (needs all the help it can get…). Of course, not all games are made with Vita in mind; but, that brings up another question, WHY? or WHY NOT?

Anyways, my few silly thoughts on the offerings…

  • Looks excellent to me!!
I’ve been a subscriber from the beginning and my membership is going strong through at least Sept 2017 and on! :D

  • There really needs to be a patch at some point to let us add external storage to the systems. I’ve been playing games for months on PS3 based less of my general interest and more on how big is the file and how much space do I need to clear out to download the next thing. with more games coming to PS4 this is going to be a big problem soon,, and really one of the few areas Xbox beat PS on.
