PlayStation Plus – 2 Titles Per Month for PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Next month, PlayStation Plus will reach its 4th year milestone. PS Plus has evolved a lot as a membership since then. We’ve provided our PS Plus members with numerous exclusive discounts, access to betas, demos and even select games early, and of course, free games to play through our Instant Game Collection. As our members have grown with us from our introduction on PS3, PS Vita and now PS4, together we have built a strong community of gamers around the world.

The excitement around PlayStation 4 has been tremendous, and it has been exciting to see how quickly our dedicated community has rallied around the system, adopting and engaging with its features and spreading the word about what makes PS4 the best console available. PlayStation Plus has been an essential part of PlayStation 4, providing access to next-gen online multiplayer and a steady stream of great games including Resogun, Outlast, Don’t Starve and Mercenary Kings. Since we are always looking to continue evolving PS Plus to be a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games introduced each month with PS Plus. As you’ll see below, starting in June, members will have access to two titles per month for each of our platforms.

Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Tuesday of the month, and will be free for the month, until the first Tuesday of the following month, taking the guesswork out of how long the game will be available for free. In the coming weeks, you’ll see that several of the titles that have had a nice, long stint in the Instant Game Collection will be phased out, so if you’re new to the service and haven’t had a chance to download all of the titles available through PS Plus — or if you’ve been thinking about subscribing but haven’t yet — now is the perfect time to get all the great games available with PS Plus.

Protip: you don’t have to download the game to your hard drive (or memory card) to gain the entitlement — you can also go to the web store, add them to your cart and check out. Once the game says “Purchased” below it when you’re logged in, you’ll be set for the future as long as you’re a PS Plus member.

Members have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, including the Destiny multiplayer beta (for members who have pre-ordered the game), Driveclub PS Plus Edition, Secret Ponchos and more.

Now – Matthew Harper from our Community Team is here to tell you all about June’s lineup! Take it away, Matt:

Plus - Trine 2

Okay, now that you’re all up to speed with PlayStation Plus, let’s go over the games you’ll get this month. Buddy up, because your two PS4 games are best when experienced with a friend (or two). Trine 2: Complete Story is a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and wraps them up in fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save.

On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals. The latest in the franchise features a new Path to Greatness starring the reigning NBA champion LeBron James. Sly Cooper and pals are back in Thieves of Time — since it’s a cross-buy title, Plus members will get both the PS3 and Vita versions next month.

Finally, PS Vita owners get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. Terraria is a procedurally generated sandbox game where you’ll build crazy structures and fight insane boss monsters, while Mutant Mudds Deluxe is a spin on the traditional 2D platformers of years past – they’ve got the art style and chiptune tracks down, but you can also hop into a third dimension with a nifty jetpack. Jetpacks are cool.

Watch the video below to see June’s lineup in action.

  • Unfortunately already bought Trine 2 and a few other goodies here…

Terraria free on Vita (about time! bought it on PS3 a year ago!)? PixelJunk Shooter on PS4? More than makes up for it.

Great to hear that the IGC will get two PS4/Vita titles. Hopefully I can find someone to download them for me while I’m deployed.

  • I retract my prior comment. According to the EU blog, the yearly titles are being phased out completely.

So we get the same amount of games as before monthly, except one PS3 game is being swapped out for a PS4 game, but we’re losing the yearly core IGC lineup in the process.

That’s actually kind of a downgrade. Fewer titles per year.

  • As you said i download the games as soon as they are available… so i don’t mind that they are available for only a month…. but just to clarify… once i had downloaded the game, I’m ok to play it as long as I’m with PS+ right? Like if i want to play the game again 2 or 3 months later, I should be able to download it again from my download list… right?

Not to complain but Trine 2 was on sale like a month ago… not cool that it’s free now.. should’ve been like the other way around… free fist and then on sale… right?

    PS: I love PS+

  • I’ve been a Plus member since the beginning, and I’m fine with this change. Sometimes the games Plus offers aren’t to my taste, but it is impossible for them to offer titles that appeal to everyone. The main difference now is a new Plus subscriber will not have a huge library of games to choose from, instead only having the monthly ones. However, your library would still be built up over time.

  • As someone who owns PS3, PS4, and Vita, reaching parity between the 3 is definitely good for me and eventually was to be expected.

That said, I do understand why PS3 owners would be bummed about this. They’re losing value from their subscription in a way if that’s the only console they own. However, they’re only deceiving themselves if they thought Sony weren’t going to shift some of their focus to PS4. I mean, it’s alright if you are upset as a PS3 owner, but keep that anger in check a little bit and try to understand what’s going on here.

As for the June line-up? Meh…I’ve seen a lot better months and I’ve seen worse. Seems a little mediocre when you compare it to EU, but such is usually the case (especially when it comes to Vita offerings). Still getting more than my money’s worth, but it would be nice to see things get a little better on the Vita.

  • johnny_toastburn

Wellllll… if I hadn’t already played Sly 4, I’d be very excited. So, it’s kind of my own fault that this isn’t a good month for me. I admit I don’t see much value in getting sports titles because there’s a glut of them on the used market for just a couple of bucks. But again, this would have been a decent month for Sly alone.

  • Wow… I became a Plus member on November last year and since then I’ve actually experienced a decline in the quality of the games offered on the PS+ lineup, from amazing to what I’ve just seen today. This is, by far, the most disappointing month since I became a member of PS+

  • I’m surprised that no one has commented that Sly Cooper Thieves in Time was also on the instant games collection just this Month (May 2014), that’s really cheap of you, rehashing a game from this month and a sports game for ps3, nothing new or worth the membership, the psvita side is good though.

  • johnny_toastburn

And as a PS3 only owner, I don’t begrudge Sony for shifting to PS4. That’s not to say it won’t affect my decision to renew if at the time all I still have is the PS3 and there’s no PS3 love for PS Plus. It’s a two-way street, and everyone has to do what’s best for them. But hey, if there’s at least one quality PS3 game in the mix every month, I’d be hard pressed not to renew. Metro First Light, Puppeteer, Remember Me and Tomb Raider would have slipped past me if not for Plus (my loss). And there were even some games I would have bought anyway (Borderlands 2 and Bioshock: Infinite) to boot! If there are a couple of good PS3 titles a month, I’d certainly keep Plus going even when the focus goes to PS4.

  • I miss the days of the internet when there wasn’t a comments section at the bottom of every web page.

  • ahh yeah, Trine 2.

Some of you are so unrealistic…lol what did you expect, Watch Dogs?

  • As someone who has Vita, PS4 and PS3…I tip my hat to you, Playstation. An already great service getting better. Love the service, love the consoles.

  • smoothboarder540

@297 CraddaPoosta Pro tip: Try giving some actually helpful feedback if you want something changed. Take a look at your comment and tell us what the Sony employees are supposed to take away from that ridiculousness. You don’t like Indies. Wow, I summed up your entire comment in four words. Okay, what do you like? I’ll admit that I’m disappointed with these two games as well, as I already have Terraria (a great game). So instead of creating an obnoxious comment, I’ll give a list of what I would like for Vita: Rayman Legends, Dragon’s Crown, LBP, NFS Most Wanted, Ragnarok Odyssey, Dead Nation, MLB 13 or 14, Muramasa Rebirth, olliolli, Steamworld Dig, and Walking Dead Season 2. It’s not that hard.

  • @307

You’re right! Why are we getting Sly Cooper again??? It was in available in the May update as crossbuy!!!
WHY? Now this is really a reason to complain! Do you intend to rerelease all the games that have been released before?
    What are you thinking Sony?

  • Nice! Awesome titles FOR FREE!!! (Well, thanks to the PS+ Membership)

    This is pretty awesome!
Can’t wait to hop onto that Pixel Junk Shooter Co-Op!!

  • Nice to see a good amount of new games and not a few just sitting there constantly, also @313 EU got Sly 4 US did not so this is new for us.

  • My bad! It was for EU not US.

  • + lxatruch – You asked if you have the games for later. Yes, you do. I’e had Plus since it started and I delete and redownload all the time (I really should get myself a bigger hard drive). Once it’s in the download list, you’re cool. Other than the hassle of finding it on your list!
I don’t know about you, but my download list is at something like three thousand and something downloads. Digging through the list to find an old game is a freakin’ chore.

  • I don’t understand why people are getting disappointed month after month with the selection of games that Sony is making available on the Instant Game Collection. You are paying for not only the instant game collection, but the cloud saves, full game time trials, discounts, and other features. If you don’t like what games are being offered, save yourself the sixty dollars and spend them on the games you want or join Xbox Gold Live where you get only two games a month that have been out since the Xbox 360 was first announced. I’m tired of reading about people always complaining about the selection of games. This is a great service that Sony is offering to the community to try new titles that you would never have played or heard of if it wasn’t for the IGC.

  • Geez, give people an inch and they demand a yard.

Reading some of these comments really deflates the excitement around Plus releases. Maybe those who are complaining are better off with Xbox Live Games With Gold where you only get two out of date titles per month. Sounds like a better deal, right?

  • smoothboarder540

@307 You might be thinking of the EU games from April. Thieves in Time has not been free in the US. It has been on sale though.

  • WOW more crappy indie games for PS4 not a shock any more…

  • NBA 2k14? Looks like I’m re-subbing :D

  • Whoa whoa wait. Is @301 right? Are they getting rid of the IGC? I can understand swapping one of the PS3 games to PS4 but what justification do you have to get rid of the IGC and suddenly give us less value? And why would you do this right when Games for Gold is stepping up it’s game?

Can someone please clarify if I’m interpreting it wrong?

  • smoothboarder540

@321 Good, I’m glad. Now you can get with the program that the ps4 is not old enough yet to offer full $60 games. Sony makes the majority of their Playstation money from those games. They’re not about to give them away.

  • Vita should get the games EU has been getting (Muramusa, Dragon’s Crown, etc)

  • I am happy that Sony is allowing me the opportunity to try out these sports games that I would have never purchased on my own. Even better, these games are 2014 versions….SWEET…. on the plus side my vita is going into overdrive with the cross buy of Sly cooper. Keep up the good work!

  • I hope one of the two PS4 games would be a AAA title in the near future (e.g. July). If they are going to keep on giving away indie games, at least let give us new games like Octodad, Child of Lİght, Transistor. Both of June’s PS4 free games are reissues of old PS3 games. I have beaten both of them, they were fun and all. But I have no reason to play them again. I am very disappointed because I was expecting a AAA family game like Knack (even though it got lukewarm reviews) to be added to IGC.

  • @324 It seems that only a few of us understand that Sony isn’t going to be offering Wolfenstein: The New Order or Watch_Dogs on the IGC anytime soon or even Infamous or Killzone to it.

  • 2K14 is awesome, but I wish we got it on ps4! Can we get a non indie game on ps4, though? At least give us Knack.

  • This is sad. I mean can you guys give one good action game thats not indie. If i wanted to play indie games on a new console i woulda got an ouya not a ps4 you guys barely got any good game that arent indie to play at all on ps4 i have to wait to use the awesomenes that ps4 says it is until nwer games are released and if i want to buy it on ps3 cause the difference isnt much i still pay the same price for ps3 games at least give some good games to play on ps3 so that while we are waiting for a non indie great title next gen ps4 game we have something thats free to not get pissed off about . Wheres the next gen games if i wanted nintendo id get nes but who wants to play indie games a minority of gamers like 15 percent

  • I think somebody should probably comment on this, because if this is actually the case and the EU blog staff isn’t just misinformed, that isn’t cool. That’s a net loss to everybody.

    http://a.disquscdn.com/uploads/mediaembed/images/1055/6945/original.jpg

  • This is not a bad mix. Pixeljunk Shooter is a fun exploratory game in the vein of Solar Jetman, and while I’d already completed it on PS3, I don’t mind revisiting the ultimate version. Trine 2 I barely scratched the surface of on PC, and I’d rather play it on console anyway so seeing the best console version coming to PS4 is welcome news. I don’t care for basketball one bit but if I did I’d probably want NBA 2K14. Same with Terraria, although I do like me some Starbound.

Sly Cooper and Mutant Mudds don’t interest me and I must say that I am a wee bit jealous of Europe for getting Dragon Crown on the Vita–I have the PS3 version and would love to be able to play on either–I imagine U.S.’s time will come on that one.

Thanks for continuing to maintain a certain quality of free PS Plus titles.

  • @ ISLAND-THUNDER: Yes, you are misinterpreting what he said. The yearly titles are going away, sure, but the IGC, the Instant Game Collection, where we get instant access to a bunch of games every month, isn’t going away. The IGC isn’t only the yearly titles. They’re just changing up the format, as they’ve done many, many times over the years since they first introduced PS+.

Honestly, I’m quite happy with the change AND this month’s update. As PS4 is the future, gamers need to be persuaded more and more to move along to current-gen, so we can stop being held back by last-gen. Giving platform parity is fair, as there will probably be as many PS4s in the US as there are Vitas by the end of the year.

And while the PS3 offerings aren’t for me anymore (basically leaving it behind these days), MMD on Vita and both PS4 titles are right up my alley, so that’s a 75% success rate for me, personally. Thank you Sony, for giving us such great value month after month.

  • From the EU blog:

    Fred Dutton 29 May, 2014 @ 3:50 pm 7.2
Chris will be along to answer questions soon, but just to clarify, the annual ‘evergreen’ titles will not be replaced. Instead, you’ll be getting one additional PS4 game every month. So, 2 x PS3, 2 x PS4 and 2 x Vita each month for the foreseeable future.

So we get the same amount of monthly games, just one PS3 game is swapped out with a PS4 game…..but we lose all six yearly titles in the process? That’s a significant downgrade and not cool at all.

  • I like this new system. 2 free games per platform available for the whole month, no games staying long term on the IGC. Good job, guys!

  • I like the new changes now we need you guys to address the digital vs physical pricing of games. I shouldn’t have to pay the same price for a digital copy of a game that I do for a physical copy of a game. You know the reasons why so please fix the disparity.

  • @332 yes my terminology is wrong, I apologize. But they are in fact getting rid of 6 yearly games and offering nothing to make up the lost value. That’s a clear downgrade to me.

  • Very, very very much disappointed at the june lineup. Absolutely nothing truly worth for me. :(

  • COOL
    more psvita games please sony

  • so we’ll get 1 triple A and 1 indie for ps4 each month ? awesome :D

  • I don’t understand why people call others entitled when these games are not free. This is a subscription model fools, I have the right to show negativity if I don’t like the content. In my opinion NBA is a joke, not interested in Sly, Terraria is a good game but I don’t know how servers handle on the Vita and another Indie game. 3 months of disappointment for me, it’s like you want me to stop paying for PS+.

  • Wow, this lineup is crap. Anyone who wants to play NBA2K14 will have bought it already — and anyway, who wants to play after the season is over and online play is at its lowest? Not to mention, focus has switched to baseball, soccer and the upcoming Madden. Trine 2 was great, but it’s been on sale for dirt cheap on PS3 many, many times, and I wager most people who find it of interest have already played it. Pixeljunk — it’s junk, all right. Really disappointed. No comment on the Vita games, as I will never own one.

  • SO does this mean the current status quo of 12 available PS3 games, 2 available PS4 games and 6 available PS Vita games is going away? Or is this just a way to formalize monthly releases to the instant game collection?

  • @340 exactly! Theyre not free – we pay a fee for access to them and we have the right to complain and offer feedback. Though of course Sony seems to ignore said feedback anyway. We complain about *only* Indies on Vita every month, yet we’ve had 3 straight months of *only* Indies on Vita with no retail games added. Its a bit ridiculous. Offer some variety!

  • Another laughable month… yet AGAIN.

Trine and Sly are ok, but the rest… come on Sony, really?
Look, you don’t need “AAA” AND indie crap to please your Plus audiences. I bet most of the Plus users defend to hell and back the indie scene, but almost none of them care to even play them for mone than 1 hour, and let’s not talk about how many care to even FINISH them.
What I’m trying to say is that with just a little variety and GOOD selection of games (PS1, PS2 and PS3) you wouldn’t have to bother searching for “new big games” for plus. Seriously, just try to search on those “old” or not very known PS3 games and you will hit the mark quite nicely.

  • People become so entitled so quickly. This is a fantastic service. It’s taken my PS3 from second class citizen to first in the house and convinced me to buy a VITA. I’m looking forward to picking up a PS4 soon and already have a stack of games for it thanks to Plus.

Games look great for June. I like the new approach of keeping the number of games even across platforms. Keep up the amazing work, Sony!

  • Sort of of disappointed in this update for PS plus was really hoping this month would be outstanding since its the month of E3. But instead its PS4 and Ps3 games I have no interest in because the
ps4 games I have already played for the most part in different versions (ps3 and Vita)
PS3 Sly cooper is a great game but I already own it and NBA2k14 I have no interest in because I don’t understand Basketball
PS Vita is the exception I love the 2 games that we are getting this month and cant wait to play them. Those are the type of experiences I like on my Vita but my 32Gb card is full and I am not sure what to delete to make them fit

  • *Reposting*

    Ideas for IGC:
    Arcana Heart 3
    Prince of Persia
    Devil May Cry
Catherine (I don’t really want it, but I know is a great puzzle games that a lot of people will enjoy)
    Warp
    Hitman Collection
I don’t know… but I’m sure YOU know about unknown or good forgotten games because you work for PS.

For PS2: God Hand, Siren series and that kinda’ games, Personas and SMT, Gitaroo Man ?,and… I don’t really know which other games there are…
For PS1: I don’t know… Silent Hill, MGS, for example.
