Devolver Digital: Updates on 6 Upcoming PlayStation Games

The Devolver Digital team and the wonderful developers we work with are thrilled to announce an incredible roster of games coming to PlayStation platforms this year and next! This partnership is the result of incredible enthusiasm and excitement across the board from the folks at PlayStation and a great deal of support for the games and the developers behind them. The relationship we have with our developers and partners are just as important to us as the game themselves and working with partners that believe in what we are doing is tantamount to our success. Our team listened to what you, the gamers, have asked for in email, on Twitter, and at conventions and now we’re proud to share this collection of incredible games coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita this year and next.

THE TALOS PRINCIPLE

Devolver Digital: Updates on 6 Upcoming PlayStation Games

Our team has been friends with Croteam since they were just a group of childhood friends working out of a small apartment on a tech demo called Serious Sam, partnering on nearly every game in the legendary series since. As Croteam worked on the next Serious Sam game, they began experimenting with more creative and complex puzzles inside the new Serious Engine 4 and ended up creating a unique new game concept they called Nexus. Once we got our hands on the game we couldn’t put it down as solving one clever puzzle simply tempted us into the next mind-bending challenge and the next thing you know The Talos Principle was born.

Devolver Roundup - Talos

The Talos Principle is a philosophical first-person puzzle game from Croteam, the creators of the Serious Sam series, and written by Tom Jubert (FTL, The Swapper) and Jonas Kyratzes (Infinite Ocean). Players are tasked with solving a series of increasingly difficult series of complex puzzles woven into a metaphysical parable about intelligence and meaning in an inevitably doomed world. The Talos Principle will be coming to PlayStation 4 this fall and we apologize ahead of time for the mental anguish hiding behind the brilliant puzzles from the minds at Croteam.

TITAN SOULS

The Devolver Digital team often scours through game jam games as fans and as evil publishers looking for incredible game ideas from talented developers. One such case is Titan Souls from Acid Nerve, which garnered all sorts of awards and attention coming out of Ludum Dare 28.

Deveolver Roundup -Titan SoulsS1Devolver Roundup - Titan SoulsS2

Inspired by minimalist games like Shadow of the Colossus and the intensely challenging Dark Souls, Titan Souls tells the story of a nameless warrior’s quest to bring down the ancient titans with nothing but a single, indestructible arrow. There are no lesser classes of enemies, no crafting, no grinding and no side quests – just you and the two dozen titans scattered throughout the land awaiting your challenge. We’re excited to we partnering with developers Mark Foster, David Fenn, and Andrew Gleeson to bring Titan Souls to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita early next year.

HOTLINE MIAMI 2: WRONG NUMBER

Devolver Digital: Updates on 6 Upcoming PlayStation Games

Hotline Miami splashed on the scene with its perfect blend of white-knuckle action, searing neon visuals, and a soundtrack that drove the action from start to finish. Dennaton Games created a masterpiece and developed a few new ideas for updates to the game that filled out the story more from the perspectives of more factions involved in the conflict. Those ideas grew and expanded to be larger than Hotline Miami itself and thus Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number was born.

Devolver Roundup-Hotline Miami 2

Fans of the original game can look forward to the trademark fast-paced combat and intense soundtrack but with new twists and turns as the narrative shifts between different factions affected by the events of Hotline Miami. Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita later this year.

BROFORCE

Devolver Digital: Updates on 6 Upcoming PlayStation Games

Broforce from South African developer Free Lives stole our hearts as soon as we witnessed our air-to-ground missile strike as two of our bros tumbled down with the crumbling terrain and the other two set the whole scene in slow motion with a super sweet high-five. It’s insane, it’s over the top, and you’re going to love every minute whether going in as a lone wolf or bringing the pain with four-player online cooperative play.

Devolver Roundup-Broforce1Devolver Roundup - Broforce2

Broforce is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita early next year with some fun bells and whistles and tactical strikes. Keep up with ongoing development at broforcegame.com and by following @Free_Lives on Twitter!

NOT A HERO

Not a Hero GIF 1

Developer Roll7 is stocked full of crazy dudes. As the team wrapped up their punishing skateboard opus OlliOlli on PlayStation Vita, they pitched us an expanded version of their Not A Hero prototype where an unheralded hero must clear the city of crime at the behest of a time-traveling anthropomorphic rabbit running for mayor. Sold.

Devolver Roundup -Not A Hero1

The presentation was simple and straightforward – again, it was just a prototype – but it’s mix of Elevator Action, Hotline Miami, and Gunpoint combined to make something that felt absolutely magical and altogether unique from the aforementioned games. Built on Roll7’s patented ISO-Slant™ technology, Not A Hero is shaping up to be the greatest 2¼D cover-based indie shooter of all time ever. Look out for it on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita early next year!

SHADOW WARRIOR

Devolver Digital: Updates on 6 Upcoming PlayStation Games

While doing a bit of competitive research during the production of Serious Sam 3: BFE we checked out an impressive classic FPS called Hard Reset from a new independent developer Flying Wild Hog out of Poland. When it came time for us to reboot and reimagine the long idle Shadow Warrior series we immediately contacted Flying Wild Hog and as luck would have it their team was full of longtime Shadow Warrior fans.

Devolver Roundup -Shadow Warrior

Shadow Warrior is bold reimagining of 3D Realms’ cult classic shooter that blends the viciously over-the-top gunplay of the original with the elegant precision of the powerful katana. The reluctant hero Lo Wang certainly comes stacked with heavy-hitting guns to pummel the demon hordes back into the shadow realm but the real fun is reserved for his classic katana. Melee weapons had long been relegated to backup weapons in first-person shooters, used only when all other ammunition was depleted. Flying Wild Hog flipped that on it’s head with Shadow Warrior by making the katana the most devastating weapon in the game when leveled up and skillfully used in combat. Shadow Warrior will slice its way onto PlayStation 4 later this year.

  • I definitely can’t wait for Hotline Miami 2 and Titan Souls to be released on the Vita. I have the first Hotline Miami on my Vita.:D

  • Not buying any of these unless there is a GOD DAMN PHYSICAL RELEASE.

I’m tired of having digital shoved down my throat.

    Give consumers a mother****ing CHOICE!

  • Looking forward to Broforce and Hotline Miami 2! The first Hotline Miami was great even though getting A+ on every level was very hard. I never got that trophy :(

  • @2 They are Devolver Digital, not Devolver Physical or Devolver Choice. If you dont want digital then you dont have to get it. You will just have to miss out. Digital is cheaper.

  • Love 8bit entertainment.
If Hotline Miami had a better storyline, I am sure I would have tried for mor trophies.

Bro Force looks like something old school Nintendo players would have drooled over.

  • @2, understandable.
Maybe they can release a physical complete game collection.

    Enh, enh?

  • Look forward to giving these a go on my PS Pls membership.

  • @6 If they did this, I’d buy it in a second.

  • Cool, cool, especially that Talos bizniz, but definitely get back to me once you wrangle Sony into the hot mess of Hatoful Boyfriend. The Vita could definitely do with it, and I’d love to grace my PS3 with the glory of Oko!

  • einhander, you are so annoying. it makes no sense to only buy physical games, and its not some illogical stance on having choice… you simply want to resell your games but cant do that with digital copies. if you dont want to buy amazing games like miami hotline or titan souls because they are only digital you are a sad soul. but the fact that you post on free to play game posts on this blog, “no physical, no sale”, means you are an idiot who spams this blog with no rhyme or reason.

thanks devolver. i love every game you release. so happy broforce and titan souls are both coming to the vita, and like the majority of gamers now, dig the digital release, theres no sense in having a physical copy taking up space when the game is less than a GB.

  • All I wanted was Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number for PS3 since the first one started on it too…

  • Mintblend_44321

Broforce on Vita is sheer brilliance!! My stomach hurts i want to play it so bad.

  • @10 No, I want to *own* my games, not resell them.
Like I said, give consumers a choice. Don’t force digital down their throats.

  • Shadow Warrior isn’t coming to Vita? I don’t want to sound condescending, but the graphics seen on the trailer don’t look like something the Vita would be unable to handle.

Could you consider making a Vita version?

  • @14 I know you want to complain about the Vita on every post but why complain on the one that has 4 Vita games being mentioned? Hotline Miami 2 and Not A Hero are both going to be amazing while Bro Force and Titan Souls could be pretty good too.

  • Excuse me I think you put Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Vita later this year wrong.

It was support to be Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita later this year.

  • To my fellow vita owners, do not put your rants comment here. This is a 3rd party developer not a Sony dev. At least let’s thanks them (3rd party) for making games for vita where sony can’t even provide one.

  • Einhander138

    1. You know NOTHING about the costs of making physical discs. Generally a company won’t print the discs for you unless you drop 1.5 million. Where are indie developers going to get that money? If they do go to a Publisher the Publisher will take a cut, and the developer might not see a cut.

Example PS3 was about the only platform other than steam that Retrocity Rampage was worth developing for. Didn’t like Xbox 360 and he never made his money back from publishing on Wii.

    2. Where are the copies going to go? Wal-Mart? Target? Big Cities? How are you going to get it in small cities?

    3. Some digital releases like Marvel Versus Capcom was merely just a code inside a box. Even Patapon 2 did this. Is that fine for you? no of course not because you want to “own” it

    4. Sorry it’s just not economically feasible to put 100MB games onto a 50GB Blu-Ray, ship them all around the country or world, on a niche’ game that 1-5 people made. They might become mega stars, or they might go bankrupt. Digital is the ONLY distribution platform that makes sense for a small developer a small game, with limited funding. If they make it BIG then maybe.

  • einhander138 one final thing.

If you aren’t going to support digital, than hope to heck the games hit PS Plus so that you have no reason to complain. If you aren’t a PS Plus subscriber, your argument is utterly m00t.

You’d be asking for things that are not economically sustainable and would ruin lives just so you can have another piece of plastic on your wall for a game that costs $10 that people wouldn’t buy for $20-30-40 dollar ranges.

  • Broforce and Hotline Miami 2! Yey! I have no idea about the others but they look awesome! Also where’s Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition? @einhander138 I agree with you, I hate digital downloads, but games like these are excusable, but games like Soul Sacrifice Delta and others need a Retail release.

  • Good selection of games but wow is this really that big of news? I mean some of these games are already (or have been) on PC for quite some time now (Shadow Warrior over a year i think even). Probably not fair to say considering PC is pretty much the dominant Indie platform, but seriously it almost sounds everybtime some indie game comes out the announcement is hyped like its some new IP or something. If gamers would not lock themselves into playing on 1 platform you would see that Indie gaming has a VERY strong library of games. Just baffles me how now (sometimes) they over hype this genre when its been around for years and years now and act like they are the champions of promoting indie development.

It’s good news though that more people can start enjoying these games now for sure, but don’t question our intellect by saying you all took a look at this game, made a decision, etc. Most of these indie games that have come out for our consoles have clearly been games you all saw on the PC platform that were highly successful.

  • Ooooh! please don’t be a mistake. I cannot wait to play Hotline Miami 2 on PlayStation 2!

  • Is Hatoful Boyfriend coming to Playstation?

  • Gah! I’m SOOOOOOO excited for all of these games but Broforce is at the top of my list. I would buy that game a million times if I had the money to spare. Already have it PC, can’t wait to play it where it’s best played: Playstation consoles

  • Can’t wait to download Hotline Miami 2 for my Playstation 2, hasn’t been new content for that in years (Kappa)
I am so excited for some of these. Hotline Miami 1 was such a masterpiece, and SotC and Dark Souls inspired game+Devolver Digital? This is going to be absolutely fantastic

  • @18/19

If you are too small to publish a physical title, then you aren’t worth publishing.

Also, PS+ has absolutely zero to do with consumer choice.

And physical games don’t “ruin lives”. That is ludicrous.

  • @ MakaiOokami

    Exactly! Thank you!

  • When I saw Talos Principle at the conference,in the beginning of the video I thought it was The Last Guardian.lol

Anyway a lot of cool games here, and most of them looks really fun.

  • Where is ma Duke NukeM ?!

  • BROVITA!

    Woot.

  • Thank you for all your support!

  • @ MakaiOokami

You can’t really argue with people that think you shouldn’t publish your games if you can’t afford to pay millions of dollars to put it in a plastic shell on store shelves. You’ll never, ever, win anything doing so, and they’ll never, ever, change their mind. You could have the most logical arguments ever, that won’t do. You could have a huge pile of documents showing clearly and proving that your argument is sound, that won’t do. Nothing would do.

We’re slowly moving towards a future where digital-only titles will be the norm. It is already the case on PC, physical sales accounting for practically nothing in the grand overall scheme. Phones and tablets are already there too, and more and more digital sales are done year after year on the console front. Sure, we can still buy physical copies for current consoles, but the trend will shift eventually, and there will be a point where downloads will account for more sales than physical copies.

I too, would prefer physical copies if I have the choice, but for some games, especially on smaller platforms (like the Vita), and from smaller teams, it’s just not possible.

Some of the best game I’ve played recently were download-only titles anyway…

  • Please don’t get me wrong: I do feel grateful to Devolver Digital for bringing these games, and will certainly buy at least some of these, including Shadow Warrior for the PS3.

Let me rephrase my previous question:

Would it be possible to also get a Vita version of Shadow Warrior in the future?

  • @28 me too! I was totally hoping that they would at least mention the last guardian. Sadly that game is dead to me now.

I don’t understand people complaining about digital downloads, What really is the big turn off? You can’t trade in your $9.99-19.99 game in for $3-4 dollars at gamestop? I like the ability to download a game to my console while i’m not home and if i want to switch between games I don’t have to go changing discs. Since having my ps4 i think i’ve bought more digital titles than I have on my 360 and i’ve had that for 5+ years.

  • @34 Then you’re part of the problem.

Giving up and buying more digital titles means we are going to get more digital titles.

    DON’T BUY DIGITAL.

  • @Einhander138 Don’t you understand that digital is cheaper? Once the big game companies switch to all digital so that they can actually make much more profit from the sales of their products. IMO they should get as much profit as they possibly can, they put in all the work to make great games. And you want physical copies so that you can “own” the game?? Explain the logic behind that. Do I not own my digital games? I can play them whenever/however I want.

Thanks, Devolver, for bringing these great titles to Playstation!

  • Devolver Digital bringing more Vita love than Sony’s E3.
Damn it, just can’t help the disappointment. Sorry.

  • @34 it isnt PEOPLE complaining about digital, its just one person, einhander138. hes the only one who spams on pretty much every post not to buy digital, even on free to play games, which proves he has no rhyme or reason behind it. even a free to play game he wont download because there isnt a free physical version?? thats just stupid.

  • @einhander138, you are the only person here that cares about not having a physical copy. some would like a physical but are understandable enough to realize why its not affordable, and appreciate the single fact that they companies make brilliant games that are worth play. they are so worth playing pretty much anyone who would prefer a physical copy will buy the game even though its only digital. i understand you probably will always be an irrational, and idiotic consumer, but dont think we will join your crazy band wagon for fighting against digital. actually most of us enjoy digital. the fact that you made the statement, if a indie company cant afford to make physical copies they shouldnt be published, just proves how illogical you are. selfish consumers like you are the problem, not the people who support indie and evolve happily with changing industry. i couldn’t careless if you like it or not and i couldnt careless if you buy the games. but i will continue to defend indie companies and the digital format because it overall is a better format.

  • its ok if you miss out on these great titles einhander138. while the rest of us enjoy them, i will feel no sympathy for you. because i will gladly buy all 6 of them on day one of each release. everything devolver digital puts out is gold and deserves all the money it can get.

  • @39/40

“actually most of us enjoy digital”

That’s a pretty broad, sweeping statement that can’t possibly be proved to be true.

“i will continue to defend indie companies and the digital format because it overall is a better format.”

That statement is objectively false. While you’re learning what is and isn’t true, I suggest you take grammar and punctuation lessons.

  • How long until Duke Nukem comes to Vita??

  • I’d just like to take a moment to remind everyone that thoughts like this are what is stifling creativity in the gaming industry:

“If you are too small to publish a physical title, then you aren’t worth publishing. ”

EVERYONE DESERVES THE CHANCE TO PLAY GAMES REGARDLESS OF THE METHOD OF DELIVERY AND EVERYONE DESERVES THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE GAMES WITHIN THEIR PUBLISHING/DISTRIBUTION BUDGET.

If digital is cheaper and gets more money in a developers pocket then I am all for it.
They are giving us the opportunity to play their game that they made, we should have no say in how it’s delivered.

Be gracious for the incredible scope of creative video games.

No one is forcing anyone to make a purchase.
