Action-packed MMORPG Onigiri coming to PS4

Onigiri on Free to Play

Greetings, PlayStation fans! My name is Aaron Hearn, and I’m the Lead Programmer at CyberStep, Inc., a game developer and publisher based in Tokyo, Japan. We’re the ones that brought you the amazing online games GetAmped2 and CosmicBreak, games that feature outer-space tournaments and robot combat. But now, instead of epic sci-fi adventures, we’d like to welcome you to a completely different world, an alternate universe of mythological Japan filled with demon Youkai and humans coexisting with the blessings of the ancient gods.Then there’s you, a descendant of the long-isolated mythological tribe.Together with eight ally NPCs, each with their own personalities and unique abilities, you venture forth to restore peace to the troubled landscape, imperiled by the deadly miasma and the ancient evil, the resurrected Kamikui! Please welcome Onigiri to PlayStation 4!

Onigiri is an exciting and action-packed MMORPG where you can wield the weapon of your choice, free from the restrictions of player classes in order to slay demonic Youkai however you please. Use your unique skills and a wide variety of weapons, switching easily between them all as needed to face the monsters before you. Our love for live steel and non-ballistic weapons shows with our non-targeting combat system and fast-paced battles. Want to create that mob train and strike all of them at once? Be our guest! Only you have the strength and capability to change destiny and save the world from its grim fate.

Best of all, Onigiri is free-to-play, so there’s no need to worry about subscription fees as you carve your way through the Youkai of ancient Japan. From cute little Darumas that pack a nasty bite to crazy six-armed swordsmen –along with all of the other surprises this magical, mythical Japan has in store– there’s plenty of fulfilling combat for you to engage in as you travel alone, or with a party of brave friends to meet the challenges of fate head on!

Since Onigiri’s Japanese launch early January, we’ve already had 500,000+ players join the adventure. We can’t wait for you to start the journey as well, so we’ll keep you posted on the launch date that’s scheduled for some time this summer. For now, check out the trailer and our official anime on our main site to get a taste of Onigiri’s unique spin on fantastic Japan!

Stay tuned to PlayStation.Blog and our official site for more!

Thanks for the news, Mr. Hearn!

Sonny, do rice balls not suit you?

+ spoonTRex on June 12th, 2014 at 9:43 am said:

Between the photos and the lack of dot’s on the i’s in the logo, I read “OnigirL”. :)

Sounds interesting, I’ll give it a look!

+ TYruler50 on June 12th, 2014 at 9:51 am said:

Can we please stop announcing these games with no release date? Lol.

Dear Aaron Hearn:

Great to see CyberStep working with Playstation, it really makes me happy, i was wondering, are you planning in a future to do something with PS Vita?

Hell, like, I would really LOVE to see Cosmic Break on the Vita, i think it would work awesome and flawlessly

Please, consider it

with love.

An old Cosmic Breaker fan

+ DesolatorMagno on June 12th, 2014 at 9:58 am said:

Well the game is already in pc (CB) so i don’t think that is going to take to much to be release, in short you control a Oni Girl and do quest and things XD.

+ shreddr00 on June 12th, 2014 at 10:03 am said:

Currently at Lv. 53 in Jap ver., the graphic is nothing to write home about but it’s fun nonetheless :)

why isn’t there any FREE-TO-PLAY MMORPG Vita game???

+ AizawaYuuichi on June 12th, 2014 at 12:57 pm said:

I’ve got a friend who is playing this all the time. I wondered “what the heck is he playing Rice Balls for”? And now I see that it’s actually an MMO… interesting. Since it’s F2P, I’ll actually give this a chance, unlike certain other big MMOs that are already on PS4, or are coming soon.

One of the many many games that I though we would never see outside Japan just got announced for PS4… darn… This is a pleasant suprise I must say. But seriously, DARN.
Needless to say, I would played the s*** out of this if it was on PS3. Well, whatever.
Good luck guys.

Are you somewhat related to Lafcadio Hearn? Pointless question.

Excited for this. ARGGGH I need a PS4 now!

This could be awesome. Will give it a try when it hits PS4.

+ LastAssault on June 13th, 2014 at 9:03 am said:

This game is good except for the fact it cost money to get the good skills. Without those skills you are easily 10x weaker than those who have the skills.

+ Viewtiful_Gene on June 13th, 2014 at 10:05 am said:

@33 LastAssault
Wait, you mean that even by playing a lot you still can’t get those “good skills” ?!

+ alphagoku1 on June 13th, 2014 at 5:24 pm said:

what about the possibility of getamped 2 on ps4? and on the note of this, i knew it was coming out, when the game was first announced over here, the jap version had the ps4 logo on the website,

+ dharc on June 13th, 2014 at 7:03 pm said:

So basically you’re saying Onigiri Online is a Pay to Win Free to Play MMORPG. There’s a beta going on for the PC ver.f you want to try the game.

+ LastAssault on June 14th, 2014 at 6:44 am said:

@34 Viewtiful_Gene
Yeah. These skills are purely obtainable by using cash. Even then it doesn’t give you a 100% chance of getting the skill since its more like a lottery draw for random items in the category. Im level 73 in the Japanese version and I quit due to the fact that these skills are just that much stronger than anything you can obtain normally.

+ Darkvizardichigo on June 14th, 2014 at 9:24 am said:

Wait is not this the game on the JP stroe I downloaded. If so please fix the flatness of the characters. By that I mean there face animations are not that outstanding.

+ Grayfox2k8 on June 14th, 2014 at 12:12 pm said:

Do you need PS+ to play, and is it cross platform play?

+ Viewtiful_Gene on June 14th, 2014 at 9:14 pm said:

@37 LastAssault
Thanks for responding.
Holy crap… then really IS just another Pay2Win hell, with GAMBLING.
Thank you again for the heads up.
