Minecraft on PS4 New Trailer Revealed

minecraft

Hello! Owen from Mojang here! We make Minecraft. In the wake of this week’s glitzy press conference, we thought it would be cool to talk a bit more about our blocky, buildy, crafty game.

Minecraft on PS4 will feature worlds 36 times bigger than the ones you might be used to on PS3. Existing players will be able to import PS3 saves to the PS4 version, allowing them to continue work on an immense structure or delve even deeper towards the Nether.

Making old saves compatible with the newer versions of the game was priority for Mojang and our trusted developer chums at 4J. We value the loyalty of PlayStation fans who bought Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition last year, and want to make things as simple as possible for any early adopters. I’ve experienced the pain of lost progress many times; it’s not cool.

For similar reasons, anyone who’s previously bought Playstation 3 Edition will be able to upgrade to Playstation 4 Edition for a small fee. This applies to everyone who’s bought Minecraft digitally and transfers their PSN account to their new console. Our intention is to make this work for the disc version of Minecraft too, but it’s proving a bit trickier to set up. We’ll post more info on this as soon as possible.

The clever devs at 4J are also taking advantage of Dualshock 4’s unique features. You’ll be able to navigate all the menus (and craft) by using the touchpad and, of course, share and stream your experiences thanks to PS4’s built-in social thingymabobs. It’s all completely optional, so don’t worry if you’re not keen on moving your thumbs or showing off your skills.

There’ll be a heap of Trophies to be earned for the hunters, and a bunch of Sony-specific DLC coming soon after release. While I’m talking facts, I may as well mention that Minecraft will support up to eight players online, and up to four of those will be able to log in via one PS4 thanks to the compact convenience of split-screen.

I don’t think anyone at Mojang is entirely sure why Minecraft has been quite so successful over the past few years, but all of us have experienced the fun of playing and witnessed it capture the imagination of spectators and backseat gamers, no matter their age or gender.

We look forward to sharing those experiences with lots more of you this August.

Thanks for reading, and double thanks for playing Minecraft!

  • Am I the only one who doesn’t give a flying crap about yet another release of this ghetto, 8 bit version of LBP? smh…

  • yay! can’t wait :D!

  • A lot of people including myself are excited to play Minecraft on PS4, Elway358. And ghetto 8bit version of LBP? I take it you have never played Minecraft or even LBP since they couldn’t be any more different.

  • Yesterday Matrix_Lion was only human. Transcendence

  • DAY 1 BUY

  • THANK YOU! So Happy ^_^

  • Is the trophy list shared or not between PS4,Vita,PS3?

  • i really really was not into minecraft at first, but after watching farfromsubtle’s minecraft is awesome playthrough, i definitely want to give it a try. patiently waiting.

  • Release. Green. Vita. Bundle.

    Profit.

Market the game to kids like mine who hates playing it on an iPod.

    “Look! Buttons!”

    Just saying……

  • I’ll stick with the Vita version of Minecraft, even if the draw distance seems pretty low from the E3 build. I hope it gets better in time.

Having a $5 upgrade to PS4 is extremely generous from you guys!

  • when does it come out?

This will be a day 1 buy as soon as both this releases and I get a PS4. :) Speaking of DLC, though, is there any word on if the PS3 edition will be getting the Mass Effect pack the 360 version has?

  • I purchased a retail copy of the PS3 game the day it released, and I have to say, I love it.

I appreciate very much how you guys created a great game, and the way you go about carefully generating positive secondary meaning for your brand. You distinguish yourselves not only with a quality game, but by providing it for a price that makes me think I am getting a tremendous value for my money.

There are so many companies that provide almost no content (Ace Combat Infinity, I’m looking at you.) and try to push the boundaries on what is an acceptable price for that content. I don’t think anyone falls for it, and in my personal experience, it destroys brand loyalty.

So thank you for being decent. An unfortunately uncommon distinction lately.

  • Any word on if the PS4 version will allow for more animals and villagers per world? When I was playing with friends, we noticed that there was a limit to how many we can have. Oh and Jak & Daxter DLC please! :D

  • Already bought.
Can’t wait for the Vita release, and hope its before the end of the summer.

My kids have it on constantly, and would like to play a little myself.

  • Thanks for making it CrossBuy.

  • Will the multiplayer be upgraded in the future from 8 players to higher # of players?

  • If you want a game that looks crappy no matter what console you have this is the game for you.

  • I would have thought their would be some antialiasing on the new consoles.

  • @1
LBP and minecraft are extremely different, why someone would think they are similar is beyond me.

  • madmanwithabox12

How about that Vita version? Oh wait… E3 is apparently only about PS4. <__<

  • @1. I hear you. But what I don’t understand is why this needs a next gen release. How much better do you need pixelated textures to look? Seems like accessing the PS3 gen version via PS Now would suffice for people who are really into this and wanting to play it on their PS4.

  • boo minecraft, if you want a sandbox pick up terraria, it has much more to do, and its also comeing to next gen sometime
plus minecraft is getting further and further behind the pc version since there now focusesing on 5 versions, mojang needs alot bigger staff to do this on 5 systems, they barely did one before

  • Lestatdelioncort

@madman you really need to learn how to pay attention

  • Lestatdelioncort

@madman also the ps4 was recently released what did you expect?

  • smoothboarder540

@Satnamji The bigger worlds alone make the $5 worth it. The worlds on ps3 are microscopic in comparison. And the graphics do look crisper on ps4.

Though, whenever I see comments like @1, I know that they have never given Minecraft a chance. Trust me, the game looks like crap to everyone the first time they see it. And believe if or not, it looks way better now then when it was in alpha. Yet it became one of the biggest games in the world, and not because of graphics.

  • Dont have PS4 yet but since Im getting the Vita version I can upgrade when I do get one!

  • any chance of 3DTV support? will the speaker or the touchpad in the DualShock 4 be used?

  • @1 – I have a great solution to your problem, I recommend that you not buy the game since you obviously know nothing about it. Hope that helps you out!

  • Love you guys!! But we NEED a SackBoy skin.

  • @madmanwithabox12 The release date for the Vita version has already been announced and is cross buy with the PS3 version, idiot. There is nothing to show about it.

  • I would buy this at full price under 2 conditions:

    1. The Mass Effect texture pack was available.

    2. I could magically upload an Xbox 360 saved world and download it to the PS4.

And since I know #2 is quite unlikely, I’ll just have to stick with my inferior 360 version.

  • Yay! My wife and I have been looking forward to this since we bought our PS4.

  • Is it August yet?
I cannot wait to get this on PS4 and Vita!

  • Retail Vita version please?

And Sony, if you don’t do a Minecraft bundle of Vita… (and LBP Vita would make a lot of sense, with a code for the time savers pack so creators of Minecraft could create in LBP Vita~… win)

  • smoothboarder540

@Elviick The file size will be tiny if that’s your issue. However, if you’re someone who just prefers retail, that is understandable.

  • look at all those release dates in these blog posts! Thanks for letting me know when to expect the game!

  • Dedicated server support or riot!

  • And the release date is when??? I’m not buying console version until it hits PS4.

  • Any of you Minecraft folks who lets your kids play,or do not mind kids playing on your server, (myself, waiting for vita) please feel free to send me an invite.

No mic currently, but should they get more friends to play with, will be incuded.

  • @23
Terraria comes free this month, and although I would have possibly bought it on sale, will be trying it soon.

  • I have a few questions to ask.

Will there be cross-play mine craft (ps3-ps4 online)

Is their going to be an upgrade, i have MC on ps3 will it be cheaper to upgrade too ps4?

Lastly, will you be able to upgrade ps3 worlds to ps4?

  • Is that Ratchet skin on the ps3 version?

  • @raidendeath123 never mind about the last question, ignore it :) sorry.

  • Nvm my first post

  • Is there going to be any big diffrence between minecraft Ps4 and Ps3 besides world size, cuz if not ill keep it for ps3 to play with my friends who dont have ps4 yet

  • :D

  • Anyone know if the following will be possible?

One thing that sucked with the XB360 version is if I created a world, I had to have my system on for my friends to connect to my world when I wasn’t around.

It would be really cool if I could create a world in the cloud on the PS4 version and give permission access to certain friends at any time to access the world, but keep the general public out (to combat griefing). Anyone know if this is in the PS4 version?

  • I can’t wait till it comes out!!!! YA!!!!

  • 36 times bigger? Omg can’t wait for the almost endless possibilities!
