Destiny’s PlayStation-Exclusive Content Detailed

During last week’s PlayStation E3 2014 Press Conference, you might remember the illustrious Adam Boyes noting that PlayStation owners were set to receive a ton of exclusive Destiny content — literally too much to detail in the show itself. Now that the E3 hubbub has died down, I asked Bungie and the PlayStation elders to share those details right here on PlayStation.Blog for the first time.

At launch, PS4 and PS3 owners will get exclusive access to a unique co-op Strike located on Mars, an exclusive competitive map, and a slew of exclusive guns, gear, and ships. Read on for the full details below. Oh, and if you tried out Destiny’s PS4-exclusive First Look Alpha over the weekend, let us know what you think in the comments below!

The Dust Palace Strike: An exclusive three-player cooperative Strike that can be played with friends or match made. You’ll track a Cabal extraction team through the husks of an ancient human skyscraper, the Dust Palace, buried in the shifting dunes of Mars and face a new enemy, the Psion Flayers.

The Exodus Blue Competitive Multiplayer Map: A mid-sized Crucible arena that pairs perfectly with Control and Skirmish game modes. The Exodus Blue, a long-dead vessel, once brought hope and humanity to worlds beyond Earth. Here, Guardians challenge one another, forging a new hope and future in the fires of the Crucible.

Gear

For the Warlock class, Manifold Seeker armor that was built to help Warlocks survive the secret realms of the Vex.

Weapons

The Monte Carlo, an exotic assault rifle, is a handcrafted showpiece with a sleek look that masks the cruel reality of its function — the efficient elegant delivery of war against any who would tarnish its legacy. Upgrades increase the weapon’s “hip fire” effectiveness and boost melee cool down, providing a firm grounding for close range domination.

The Hawkmoon, an exotic hand cannon, is a true gunslinger’s weapon — a smooth sidearm that makes every bullet count with intricate “hawk feather” etchings carved into the weapon’s silvered barrel. Damage boosts increase the combat effectiveness, making it a formidable weapon.

Ships

“Aurora Wake”

A hull lined with arcane instruments, crafted by a circle of Warlocks – gifting the ship with a preternatural sense for the strange.

“Crypt Hammer”

A deep-strike insertion variant, built to carry Guardians safely through contested space. Carries hardpoints once used to hold Suros TL-SEAD anti-radiation missiles.

“Outrageous Fortune”

A rugged, versatile explorer for those ready to gamble everything in search of ancient secrets and alien power.

  • The Alpha only made me 10x times more excited about Destiny! September seems a little far away for me now!

  • This is pretty awesome stuff. This is pretty much my GOTY for me just from the Alpha alone

  • Destiny is $50 and includes extra content if you order the White PS4 bundle. That’s a great deal right there.

  • Enjoyed the alpha, looking forward to the beta and then the September launch. However, I agree with the majority who thought the Ghost’s voice-acting is horrible. Sure, some like it JUST because they like his character on Game of Thrones, but the acting in Destiny is so awkward and cringe-worthy. Too many devs are making bad casting choices as a result of their fandom. Every other dev saying “OMG wouldn’t it be cool to put Nolan North in our game?!”. NO. Hearing Nathan Drake in every game ever made is weird. Bungie, please recast. Don’t ruin a major part of the game and the fans’ experience just to protect the feelings of one actor. He’ll get over it. He arguably has more important work to do anyway. Listening to the fans, when it’s reasonable, means success. Like when David Bateson was brought back as the voice of 47. That game had lost so much interest from long-time fans when we heard that the iconic voice actor was sacked. Bringing him back saved the game. The only recognizable actor that I thought sounded good in Destiny was Peter Stormare. Love that guy!

  • The alpha was awesome i enjoyed it all but i think it would be nice to play in 3rd person you walk around like that sometimes but no option to switch during gameplay. This will be a day 1 purchase for me. Keep up the good work

Love the Alpha, really sold me on the game. They are exclusive, but for how long? I would like to see some content fully exclusive, but I also like having the content available for everyone.

To me, Destiny really does feel like Halo, and I mean that in the best way possible. I have also wanted to play a game like Halo on PS4, and I feel all those Halo hours with friends has helped so far in Destiny.

Can’t wait for the full game, ready to be absorbed.

  • xLordxStarKiller

Its timed exclusive content. says right on the ad in the playstation store.

  • Does the Alpha content be the same as the Beta? I understand it wont carrie over but if it is the same content we might aswell give the chance to someone else :)

    Thank you for your answer.

  • @7 – if you do a little digging you’ll find that Microsoft is the one who has policies against cross-platform play. this is the same reason why FFXIV:ARR isn’t coming to Xbox, they have a policy in place that requires games have segregated serves for the platform. Square decided not to split the userbase and simply not develop for Xbone.

  • I had a blast with the Alpha test. Awesome stuff!

  • I wasn’t really interested in this until I downloaded the alpha on a lark. My mistake!

  • At launch… This stuff will also be on the Xbox One within a month probably.

  • Summer beta !

  • SprawledGamer757

Alpha was impressive Smoother than any beta I’ve played. Really looking for forward to the game this fall.

  • I really enjoyed the alpha and looking forward to the Beta. I pleasantly surprised myself how much I liked the game.

  • Question – The PS4 bundles also supposedly comes with the beta code when preordered. I don’t have a PS4 (yet), so will I be able to use that on my PS3?

  • I’m hoping for the official announcement of the Alpha extension, so that I can hopefully still redeem my code and play a bit!

  • Stoked. Alpha was a great start to generate well deserved hype for this game!

    love,
    squat

  • Alpha was incredible! I played a ton of it too. I can’t wait to get my hands on the beta and then the full release game. So excited, this is the game I have wanted for a very long time.

  • Game’s amazing would love to see it in 60 frames though.

  • @57 DeeJ said the Beta was going to have more to do than the Alpha (sorry for no link) so we can expect even more. I put WAY too many hours into this since Thursday and am still going when the servers allow today. It is a fantastic taste of what has the potential to be a new favorite franchise for me. Thanks to Bungee for the chance to give it a shot!

  • this game is still number 1 on my list even after e3. been playing the alpha, came across 1 glitch. i was killed on a small set of stairs. partner revived me and i revived trapped under the stairs and could not get out. it was pretty funny.

  • @#49 BattleSkard I agree, Dinklage’s voice acting was horrendous. It sounded like he took 5 ambien and washed it down with vodka.

  • Alpha was amazing!

One question, will the full game support cross-platform play between PS3 and PS4?
My wife would love to play, and we own both a PS3 and PS4. Having crossplatform play would allow us to play together….

I’m sure i’m not the only one hoping that’s the case.

  • Really enjoying the Alpha. Really smooth framerate. Even if the respawn rate for the enemies is a bit insane.

  • absolutely loving the beta right now, and free content upon release is just an added bonus :)

  • man i’ve been on this game non stop since the alpha went live cannot wait to get my hands on the full game. been a while since i’ve been excited about a shooter (burned out on annual real life war shooters) and this finally did it.

thanks for the alpha and for the updates. keep em coming!

  • Was already going to pre-order this one for sure and the Alpha has re-enforced that. All the games that got delayed to 2015 is great cuz come July 17th I prob wont play anything but Destiny for the rest of the year. Couldn’t put down the Alpha at all this weekend. Great combination of World of Warcraft, Halo and Borderlands. Call it World of Halolands.

  • Alpha is d0pe, better than any Beta I have ever played. great game can’t wait for the beta next month, and then the full release. I’m interested in future maps, how are they going to keep this game pushing all through the year and to next year. Also will there be any other PS exclusives about this game you’ll announce later?

  • The Alpha was amazing. I have two very minor criticisms/suggestions:

1 – It would be nice to have the option of having Ghost’s voice come out through the controller speaker. It would make the game that more immersive.

2 – The menus seem to be optimised for a mouse control scheme, with a reticule that has to be moved to select options. I thing in a controller, this is not ideal. It would be nice to have the option to simply scroll through options and menus using the directional buttons or analog stick, just jumping between options, instead of moving the reticule around the screen. If you really want to use the reticule, an option to move it using the touch pad would be very nice. The best would be to have both options, this way we could either very quickly move through basic options using the directional buttons, or move around the reticule as it is now.

Apart from that, cannot wait to play this game. I already pre-ordered my copy to be able to play in the Beta!

  • Oh and this is something that I believe is impossible, but it would be AWESOME if we could get the option to play the game in over-the-shoulder third person instead of first person. The models are already there, and they are used on occasion, like in the Tower or the bike. Having the option to just play in third person would be amazing, irrespective to the fact that this would or would not be advantageous when compared with other players playing in first person.

  • The alpha was awesome, cant wait for beta and the real thing. Those PS exclusives all look really awesome as well!

  • Wasn’t sure about getting it, but after playing the Alpha, i have ordered it, can’t wait till it comes out now

  • The Alpha was incredible & a masterpiece. I’m big on beautiful views, and so me and my friend went through a cave that led out to a tear jerkin’ cliff point that showed a sunset over the horizon of an airship yard. Great job guys! Keep working hard :) You’re all amazing at the art you create.

  • Loving the Alpha, keep up the good work Bungie. Welcome to PlayStation family. :)

  • I was a bit skeptical at first but on a whim signed up for the Alpha. Having spent a couple nights getting a character up to level 7, I’m definitely impressed with the overall feel of things. Was disappointing to come across a flickering street lamp that I tried to shoot but nothing happened… and the filler characters that stand around tapping touch screen computers aren’t really clicking anything… it’s little things like that that take from the immersion; but then again the game is in Alpha.

  • BucoTheGladiator

I was apart of the Alpha and Bungie has done an INCREDIBLE job with this game. The alpha ran like a beta. There were little to no flaws. I haven’t had that much fun on a game in a while and i only played the alpha. Thank you playstation and Bungie for the awesome opportunity.

  • I have the Destiny PS4 Bundle pre-ordered but need some new friends to join up on some Destiny Co-Op..getting it at my local Gamestop at midnight so shoot me a friend request if your looking for new friends!

  • I have had an awesome time with the alpha. I’m not a shooter fan, but this game completely pulled me in. Can’t wait for the full version and this is the type of game that has me telling my buddies it’s time to upgrade to a PS4.

  • DominatorSolaris

I loved the Alpha. It gave me a taste of what’s to come in Destiny. Now I really want to see what the full game will look like!

  • Alpha was refreshing so looking forward to a shooter that isn’t COD or broken BF4. What I played so far looks to be a brilliant game to usher in a true next gen experience.

  • I. Am. So. Beyond. Excited! Like many others here, I had an absolute blast in the Alpha! I spent almost every moment I could playing as my Titan and then a Warlock. It was all in all amazing.

  • Destiny Alpha First Look was AMAZING!!! I hated the Voice of the Control PvP Announcements, “Area A is Lost” It’s supposedly Peter Dinklage, but it sounded like the Naughty Bear voice Actor too much, the ‘DE-FLUFF-IFICATION” Voice was too distracting. I hope They change that.
And Everyone saying “Exclusive for how Long/Timed Exclusive” needs to Pay attention in Their Grammar Lessons. When Sony says Exclusive, they say Exclusive. When Microsoft says Exclusive, They say, “Xbox gets Cod & Battlefield Maps Exlusively,… FIrst”. Meaning ‘Timed Exclusive’, if You can’t understand Simple Lawyer ‘Jargon’, stop playing Games and READ A BOOK!!!

  • Question for the Devs of those who know, as I’ve not found it online anywhere:

We know there’s the special PS4 bundle, and we know that Destiny can now be preordered for PS4 on the PSN/SEN store, BUT…

    (a) Will we see a special “limited” or “collector’s edition” of some kind, perhaps a “gold” edition with a Season Pass like Watch_Dogs?

    (b) If we put in a preorder (which is prepaid) for the $59.99 PS4 digital release of Destiny on PSN today, but they DO announce a “larger” edition for digital preorder later, can that previous preorder be upgraded, or are we just stuck?

  • StalkerD, had 2 points I also had input on.

    1. Using the Dualshock4’s speaker for Ghost would be great. When the Controller makes Sounds corresponding to Gameplay I think, “Nintendo had a few good ideas last decade They never Implemented well” I’m thinking, Empty Guns should ‘Click’ thru the Dualshock4 when the Trigger is pulled when needed to be Reloaded(How about Reloading when the Dualshock4 is Shaken Hard/Tilted Way Back, like GTA V motion controls) OR MAYBE When You Melee, the Sound of the ‘Swoosh’ Your Fist makes thru the Air/The Crack of the Skull You just smashed could play thru the Dualshock4.
2.Using a Cursor in Menus. At first I felt like StalkerD & wanted to use my D pad to quickly navigate thru my Equipment, in ‘Old’ Games that works, but not for Destiny. When You highlight Your Equipped Gun or Armor, a Window Appears with Your Corresponding Unequipped Gear. With a Cursor, Navigating is Thumbstick Only. While Traditional Menu Navigation would require a lot of Selecting/Deselecting of Sub-Menus(Only Having to be Highlighted before)/LameSauce

  • I really want to Know This Too,… I will be purchasing This Digitally, but also want any(/the best) “Special/Limited/Collector’s” Edition, Physical or not, I like Swag.

by the Way. Everyone Streaming on Ps4 is still talking about how Great Destiny Alpha was ;)

  • For the Record, I like the Voice of Ghost, not the PvP Control Map Voice Guy. Jus saying I thought the Voice for Ghost was Great ;) PvP Control Map Voice sounded like Naught Bear’s Voice Actor, which I like for Naughty Bear, not Destiny

  • Alpha was great it showed a pretty polished taste of what’s to come. It’s a bit easy to get lost at first but playing it more helps. I like the vehicles on crucible multiplayer, that made it real fun and interesting. I’m loving the warlock and can’t wait to see what more powers I can unlock and weapons too!

  • what do we need to do to get this gear?

  • There was a lot to take in from the hype of this game and held my tongue, but this beta, made it well worth the wait! As much as I love this game for what it is, there is still a few things that need to be fixed that I can’t really describe yet until we settle in for the open beta. In the meantime, I was glad to have explored Old Russia and level up with what I had on my Warlock. I just hope it carries out in the public beta, though I’m not going to hold my breath until it comes out.
