Polyphony Partners with Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile

Hello Everyone!

Yesterday, we had the pleasure to announce an exciting new partnership between Polyphony Digital and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA); the governing body of worldwide motorsports such as Formula 1, FIA World Rally, FIA World Touring and FIA Endurance Championships.

As a testament to the quality and realism of the Gran Turismo series, the FIA has officially certified four tracks from Gran Turismo 6. This makes the game the first-ever video game to have officially certified FIA content. The virtual circuits were inspected by FIA officials who visited PDI’s development studio in Tokyo where Gran Turismo 6 track models were accurately compared to FIA standards.

So what does this all mean? Well, to start, it means that we can look forward to the creation of brand new experiences for GT6, in the form of a special FIA Online Championship – which we can expect to see in 2015. Additionally, more tracks included in Gran Turismo 6 will be subject to inspection in the near future.

The Certification of Tracks is only the start of the partnership as there are many exclusive and absolutely unique online championships planned as a long-term collaboration between the FIA and Polyphony, the development team behind the ground-breaking Gran Turismo franchise.

Polyphony - FIA Partnership

Here’s what Gran Turismo creator and President of Polyphony Digital Inc. Kazunori Yamauchi says about this new partnership.

“We are incredibly proud for the Gran Turismo Series to be officially certified by the governing body of world motorsports. In the over 15 year history of Gran Turismo, this has to be the biggest accolade we have ever received. I believe this will be a major step to forward our mission to connect our virtual and real racing worlds in a full circle, thereby expanding the population of car and motorsports enthusiasts in the world.”

More news on the collaboration will be incoming very soon, so keep your eyes on gran-turismo.com and the PlayStation Blog for more news.

  • This is cool news, now if only they can make the gameplay experience a little less tedious.

  • Pretty cool, keep rolling!

  • What about for us GT fans that have the PS4 ? Seriously i am a huge GT fan, but am I supposed to wait for 1 year for Project Cars to hit ( Nov 2013 PS4 launch to Nov 2014 ) ? Come on please bring GT to PS4 even if its just a port or i fear you will loose alot of us the GT fans.

  • I’m sorry I really want to love this but um….

WHEN DO WE GET B-SPEC MODE?

It was promised to be added to GT6….I can site many articles and interviews where it is said by Kazunori-san himself.

WHEN IS THE GPS BASED TRACK EDITOR APP GOING TO BE RELEASED?
WHEN IS THE TRACK EDITOR BEING RELEASED?

These features were PROMISED. I’m sorry to flame and be another internet jerk but I really feel like I was lied to.

  • @DanteAMT, GT7 is in the works for PS4, so we won’t be getting any PS3 ports. I won’t say that Project CARS isn’t a good game, but it will not hold a candle to the next intsallment of GT, so I won’t be buying it (Project CARS). Driveclub may not be a sim, but it will scratch that racing itch for me until I can finally get my hands on the masterpiece that is GT7.

  • Jean Todt! This guy used to be the team principal over at Ferrari F1 division which Michael Schumacher drove for and dominated the late 90’s and early 2000’s. I hope for more F1 related updates in the near future!

  • This is a fantastic announcement, I was actually watching comparison videos on YouTube and continually impressed with how accurately GT represents the real world tracks, and this partnership and the certification is like the cherry on top. I love this game is getting so much support from the automotive & motorsports industry, it’s like the best $60 I’ve ever spent on a game.

  • This is great considering I just bought the game for $20 last week, so I feel like it will have a little support while GT7 is released for the PS4 (but well, this is a game from 2013 so I may be overstating things).
