PS Plus: July’s Free Game Lineup Goes Live Tuesday

This month, PlayStation Plus members can download Towerfall Ascension and Strider on PlayStation 4. Towerfall Ascension is a great excuse to invite a few friends over for an evening of fierce fun and local competition. It features simple mechanics, but it’ll take some time to master shooting and catching arrows, head stomping and strategically using power ups. Our second PS4 game is Strider, a reboot of one of gaming’s most renowned action series. As you aim to assassinate a heavily guarded target, you’ll employ a plethora of cyber-ninja skills and upgrades you collect along the way.

On PS3 we have the critically acclaimed action-horror title Dead Space 3 and a physics puzzle game called Vessel. Dead Space 3 continues the story of Issac Clarke and his constant run-ins with the freaky Church of Unitology and their Necromorphs. A new co-op mode is a nice addition to the franchise, and playing with a friend will unlock some exclusive content. If you enjoy puzzle games, try out Vessel – a title with an incredible liquid physics engine. Each puzzle requires you to think about the properties of various forms of liquid, whether it’s lava and steam or chemicals, in order to minimize the threat of chaotic robots you created.

Finally, on PS Vita Plus members get Muramasa Rebirth and Doki-Doki Universe. Muramasa Rebirth is one of the prettiest games on Vita, with equally lovely backdrops and boss designs. You’ll hack and slash via two different characters’ perspectives, a possessed princess and fugitive ninja, and you can craft consumables as well as new swords. Then there’s the unique experience of Doki-Doki Universe, where you’ll explore the universe as an adorable robot appropriately named QT3. As you investigate what humanity means, the game will track your decisions and develop a personality profile, so you’ll actually learn more about yourself as you play.

Since all these games will be free for PS Plus members starting next Tuesday, July 1st, we will wrap any additional Plus updates into our weekly Store post each Tuesday.

  • @the_Ugly_Duckling I wasn’t able to download Doki Doki as well. Go to the left column in the store, scroll down and click view downloads, it should be in there. When you click on it, it will automatically start downloading.

  • yay, another month of games i either already own, or don’t give a crap about….it’s been literally months since there was a game on IGC that i wanted, and even then, it was friggin mercenary kings….

    this is really disappointing…

  • Towerfall would be a game that would look lovely on PS VITA…

  • Maybe a silly question…but is anyone having trouble with Strider? When I download and play it only allows me to play the demo. When I go to purchase the full version, it says I have it. Anyone know a fix for this?

  • Does anybody knows if you need to buy any DLC to get all trophies for Doki-Doki Universe??

  • Now that Sony has (sadly) killed the concept of “Instant Game Collection”, they should probably remove mentions of it where it is displayed. On the Sony store (on PC), when you go to the PS+ section, and click on “free games”, it is still written in big bold letters “Your Instant Game Collection”, despite offering only two titles per console. Maybe that’s me, but two titles can’t really be called a “collection”…

  • Rayman Legends better not be free. That game needs people to buy it and support the developers so more and more Ray mans can be made and perfected..Game is awesome and probably best platformer ever made.. Cheap skates!

  • I used to be able to get PS Vita games from PSN in my ps3. But lately I’m unable to do so. Can anybody tell me why please?

When I go to the instant game collection page, all I get is the prices for the ps plus. I renewed my subscription last May fyi.

  • Strider was pretty fun and addictive, a nice throwback type game. Doki-Doki Universe is pretty entertaining with the personality analysis in small doses. TowerFall was a joke however. Honestly, I was expecting so much more for July, especially on PS4, what with it following E3 , the Plus release changes and all. July, you get a 2.5/5.

  • this month is nothin but bangers. thank you so much PlayStation ! I already have every single game comin this month across the board but i am so impressed by the level of excellence of Plus. @352 try going to the notifications section and make sure the full install is there, if so click X on it and it will fire it up and install at that point. if not jus delete the demo and redownload. WHERE IS THE REST OF THE PLAYSTATION PLUS !!!??! I HATE THE NEW FORMAT ON ALL 3 SYSTEMS. …………………..

  • Now if you R doin whati think you are, cutting down the generosity, Im all for it, You guys give us SOOOO MUCH I MEAN A JUST COLOSSAL AMOUNT OF EVERYTHING WE WANT and yet eveytime im here all I see is people crying and moaing about it NON STOP. I am sorry that people are so ungrateful. so if you are tightening the belt its ok and is overdue. and if youare shortening the time window for the free games I think its brilliant. it makes it better because it will seem like every time you check in there is a new free game, also it gives people a reason to hop on PSN more often, tempting them into spending more often. plus that feeling of “Damn i just missed it ” is potent and will ensure that customers will come in costantly to always take advantage of the sales and feel privileged for doin so. In fact Plus has always done this but seeing a page of sooo may freebies has made people complacent and not want to spend. they say things like ill just wait for it to be free on plus in 6 months. what nerve !( honest not sarcastic )…..

  • but only putting up the new things is a mistake. on the surface people will see it and say duuuuh well thats no better than the S**t Box. a game is the most fun when you can see the prize. when you have a sense of why this is worth it. I work @ Bame Bop (sorry, legality) and As a Sony man I absolutely love when some one says oh Micro is doin free games now top that. and I reply 12 free PS3 games, 6 free Vita games and 1 free PS4 game every single month, thats how Sony does loyalty! The look on their face is priceless.
I know we are too spoiled by you so change is overdue but dont drop full full carrot to full stick. I think you should keep the list the way it was, and keep it only full on the 3 having Vita focused on Vita and 4 on 4, but put dates on them. put opening day to one week timers on them, never any longer, and when time is up keep them visable on thwe list but lock them out. and just like how gravity uncharted and wipeout never change have the rocks of 3 and 4 that stay up for 6months or more at a time be the only ones you can download whenever. please change it back or like this. I am a diehard Sony man and I diehard really don want to give fuel to the whining rabble . You know im right

  • I would like to know how they chooses games
And a game i would like to see is Just Cause 2

  • Just Cause 2 joined the IGC in June of 2012, and was removed long ago. They don’t repeat titles, so I definitely wouldn’t get my hopes up. Especially with fewer PS3 games being added now.

  • Not expecting a reply here, but I’m disappointed in the change from having the instant game collection list disappear from the store. When I click on the “free games” tab that used to take me to the IGC, it now brings me to “join now” and three choices for how much I want to pay.

Uhhh… where’s the list of free games? Are we seriously down to two now? Way to sell a service and dial it back significantly there…

Not to even mention how often the PS store crashes on the PS3. Works great on PS4 (or at least it did last time I used it), but ever since the change over to the shiny new setup of around last summer or so, she’s been… unstable, to say the least.

  • Here is my wish list:
Hockey / Football / Baseball games
    WWE
    PaRappa the Rapper (psp/vita)
    Tokyo Jungle
    Unfinished Swan
    Heavy Rain
    Red Dead Redemption

  • I can’t seem to download the games. every time i go to playstation plus to get my games where i normally do instead of showing the games available for free it instead shows “join now” and only shows three items available. the different payment plans for playstation plus. I already renewed last month when it was nearing expiration so I have an entire year already paid. I checked my account to make sure it is in fact active and it is indeed. My games are still playable and show the correct expiration date. My cloud still works. But the store won’t let me access the games so i can key them to my account. this is getting frustrating, does anyone know a way to fix this.

  • Good games

  • Where i can see the complete PS Plus list in the PS Store? Before, i look in the instant game collection but now there is a list of the plus subscription offer (1 month, 3 month and 1 year). I cant found anywhere…. :(

  • We Want R-Type Dimensions!! :D

  • This new way of giving out Playstation plus games to your subscribers is ridiculous. I have gove 3 weeks now without a single new free games for any console or the Vita. The games you offered were never that great but they were better than nothing. Maybe start offering some better big name games other than Dead Space 3? Like old sports games, or old FPS shooter games that weren’t that popular.

  • Yay! We should be getting August’s PS Plus lineup today! :3

  • Darn it! I’m a week ahead of myself :(
