Rogue Legacy Coming July 29th to PS4, PS3, PS Vita

Rogue Legacy on PS4, PS3, PS Vita

What’s up guys! We’re crazy proud to announce that the official release date for Rogue Legacy on ALL Playstation platforms will be July 29th, 2014! That’s only 3 weeks away! That’s complete insanity, and we’re totes mcgoats excited to finally bring it to consoles and handhelds.

Now, before I go into a list of the awesomeness that is the Playstation versions of Rogue Legacy, I just want to give a shout out to the guys at Abstraction Games. They did almost all of the work on bringing the game to PlayStation, and this would never have happened without them. So big ups to them for all their help!

For those that don’t know, I should probably explain to you guys what Rogue Legacy is. It’s a rogue-lite game where you must conquer a magical castle which is constantly changing. Every time you die, your children succeed you. Each child has his or her own unique genetic traits, so one child might be a near sighted wizard, and another could be a flatulent ninja. So every play through is unique, right from the get-go.

As an added bonus, all the money you earn is passed down to your children, giving each generation a leg up on the last. And you’ll need every edge you can get, because this game is hard!

Anyways, before this gets too long, let me list out why the Playstation versions are awesome.

  1. Cross Buy! — Do you want the awesome portable-ness of Vita? Or do you want the epic big screen experience of PS4/PS3? Don’t worry, you won’t have to make that choice because we’ll just give it all to you!
  2. Cross Save! — Going out? Play on the Vita, and when you get home, your save will be brought over to your PS4/PS3 via cloud magic!
  3. 101% Content! — Every single feature in the PC version, including all of the content patches, has been faithfully brought over to the Playstation versions. So you get all the extra Bonus zones, traits, and boss remixes jam packed into those sweet little bytes, along with just a little bit more. But only just a little.
  4. Multi-lingual! — Rogue Legacy’s been translated into a whole BUNCH of languages for you guys. We’ve got English, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Polish, Russian, and Spanish. :D
  5. PS Vita Control Scheme Bliss! — When we originally made Rogue Legacy, we made it with the PS Vita buttons in mind. No joke. We gambled that if it did well, we wouldn’t want the Vita version being nerfed in the control department, so we made sure to not use too many buttons. That crazy gamble we made over a year ago paid off, and that means the Vita version plays perfectly! Happiness!
  6. Platinum Trophy! — Aw yiss! Platinum awesome-ness! Thanks, PlayStation!

Anyhoo, enough talk. We’re crazy excited to be bringing Rogue Legacy to all of the Playstation platforms, and we hope you guys enjoy it, too!

  • What a surprise! AND a platinum trophy?! I’m sold.

    • Oh yeah. There’s an achievement that’s in the Sony version which is SO hard to get, but a lot of fun. Especially if you’re a veteran of the game.

  • Excellent news – I’ll be there on Day 1.

  • Woooooo finally

  • Been waiting on this! Can you tell us the price? Also nice to see you’re one of the few PSN games getting a Platinum.

  • It’s been a long time coming, but now I will own this game. Cross-Buy and Cross-Save is the icing on the cake.

    • Big thanks to Abstraction for this! Rogue Legacy was written in C# and they had to do massive work in order to get it working on every Sony platform. It runs PERFECTLY on the PSV.

  • Awesome, I’m looking forward to playing this on my Vita and PS4

  • Yeah! for cross-buy and cross-save.

  • What’s the price? Also is it a single trophy list, or one per platform?

    • The trophies are similar across platforms. But I don’t think they all pull from the same trophy list…
      So…
      Buy 1 get 3 platinums!

  • Oh baby.

  • I love you guys! Been wanting this on PSN ever since I played the PC version. So happy there is a platinum as well :)

  • “It’s a rogue-lite game”.

Quick question: did you mean “rogue-like”? :p

And a platinum trophy seals the deal for me. Might not get it day 1 because I may not have much money to spend on games after Comic-Con, but I’ll get it for sure at some point. :)

    • We meant rogue-LITE because we don’t adhere to all of the standard conventions of a rogue-like.

For example, there’s a manor in our game. So when you die, all the money you found can be used to upgrade the manor which gives future children permanent stat upgrades on their next run.

The game is still very skill based, but our leveling system lets people who aren’t super great at platformers still beat the game with a bit of grinding.

Loved this game on PC, but fell away from it as gaming on my laptop became very inconvenient.

Thank you for including Cross-Save. I was stoked to play this on Vita, and will be even more stoked that I can choose between PS4 and Vita.

  • I am guessing this will be part of the summer play 14 sale? hopefully

  • So close to having the prefect post, then you go and don’t mention the price. :(

Is Rogue Legacy currently a PlayStation console exclusive?

  • Couldn’t be more excited about this! Awesome!

  • Finally! Day one!

    Now where’s Velocity 2x?

  • Awesome news! The only drawback is that I have to wait another 3 weeks!

  • OneSmartBlackBoy

That feel when you see a cool game and go, “That’d be cool to have on my Vita.”

AND THEN IT COMES TO THE VITA!

    Awesome.

Looks like Rogue Legacy is $14.99 on PC. Similar caliber games like Rainbow Moon and 1001 Spikes are $14.99 on PSN too, so I’d imagine this game to be in that neighborhood as well.

  • Loved the PC version, glad to finally see a release date. What I wasn`t expecting was Cross Buy and Saves, now that`s a treat.
Will definitely enjoy playing this on the go!

  • Man it seems like after the 29th I won’t be on my PS3 as much. With Last of Us Remastered, Diablo 3 UEE, and this game. Glad to see the option for cross-buy and cross-save. Keep up the good work Sony.

  • Seriously, you guys are AWESOME for this. The Vita and even the PS4/PS3 can use more rogue-likes, this will absolutely be a day 1 purchase. Is there any other extra content that we can look forward to down the line?

  • My body is ready. Getting this on the vita since I have it on PC for stationary playing. YEAH!

  • I don’t even know if I’ll love the game but your post is so awesome that I will support you.

  • Woo hoo! FINALLY! I think I pestered the attendant at E3 for a release date, and got a nebulous, “soon!” Very excited about this. I’m addicted to this game on Steam, but have held off playing it for the Vita version. I can’t wait!

  • Teddy Lee, bless you….we need more like you!!

  • SO MUCH WIN!

This game is awesome and will be a great addition to the Playstation library!!!

  • Been waiting for the Playstation release. So happy for this announcement!

  • Have it on PC , will Def. Buy it again for PS4/Vita, such a great game!

  • So exciting! Already purchased this game on Steam, however I would much rather have it on the Playstation Vita. Thank you so much for this amazing game!

I know it is contrary to the concept of the game-genre, but some kind of co-op multiplayer component would add so much more value to this game.

  • So native res on vita? 60fps on vita?

  • i will buy if its 3.75 or lower i almost bought it on stream summer sale for that

  • You had me at the word Vita. My money is yours… wait my money is Uncle Sam’s, then it is yours.

  • PS+ Discount?

  • Oh yessss day 1 for me!!

  • just watched the video.. it looks pretty sweet.. buying day 1 :)

  • I played this a sh**ton on PC at lunch at work… Cross buy, cross save you say? Well, looks like I’m going to buy this again to play on my couch at home. Awesome!

  • This is the perfect Vita game.

  • I have to say: it looks like lots of fun.

  • Thank you SO MUCH for the Vita love!!!

    (Weeps silently–but joyfully–into sleeve.)

    :-)

  • I only learned of this game during the e3 Sony conference. And my interest was piqued after reading some IGN articles on the game. I am looking very forward to buying it day 1 and playing. I spend a ton of time last week asking around to see if I could find out a psn release date. I’m pretty excited to see the release date on the blog today.

  • Oooh YUS!!!! I’ve been following this game for a fair bit! My Vita is ready!!!

  • I don’t double-dip, so when I heard this was coming to Vita, I held off on getting the Steam version, which was extremely difficult to do during the Summer Sale. I love platformers on the Vita and I love Roguelikes, so really looking forward to it!

Hope there’s a PS+ discount though. It’ll be hard to justify paying $15 when I could have gotten it for $3.74 on Steam – and no, cross-buy doesn’t add value for me because all I have is a Vita.

  • Elementalstorm23

Outstanding! This is one of the main reasons I love my VITA we need more cross buy games like this! On the 29th I’ll be playing this and The Last of Us I cannot wait!

  • CROSS BUY!!!

  • Very excited for this. I don’t typically do PC gaming, so I have been anxiously awaiting this since announcement it was coming to these platforms. I will be on a cruise in August, so this will be coming with me!

  • Awesome! i’ve been looking forward to this game!

  • YES. YES. YES.

I was about to buy this last year for my crappy PC, but heard it was coming to Sony systems, so I held off. It was a long wait. I am SO excited to play it on my Vita until I get my PS4 in September!

    • Nice! Glad you held off. Rogue Legacy isn’t the same game at lower frame rates. That’s why it was important for us that the VITA version run at 60fps.

  • Day 1, thanks for your Vita love.

  • I’m all for this, but anyone know if we’ll ever see a Rogue GALAXY remaster?
