I love great video game stories. Today, the narrative potential of our medium has never been greater. The best video games blend world-class acting, writing, music and gameplay to create art that rivals the best works in other entertainment mediums.
To celebrate that point, I’m excited to announce an experimental project I’ve been working on with Naughty Dog and PlayStation.
On Monday July 28th, one of last year’s most acclaimed games, The Last of Us, will come to the theatrical stage in Los Angeles for a special one-night-only performance.
One Night Live will highlight the artistry behind The Last of Us with a live reading of select scenes by the principal actors, under the direction of Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog. Scheduled to appear are Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Merle Dandridge, Hana Hayes, and Annie Wersching. In addition, Academy Award winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla will perform selections from his score. How this all fits together will remain a bit of a mystery until it happens, but trust me when I say it will be a very special evening.
This one-time-only performance will be staged at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica on Monday, July 28 at 7 PM PT. PlayStation fans who will be in the area that evening can secure free tickets to attend the performance in person. Check the PlayStation Facebook page for details on how to register.
If you can’t join us in Santa Monica, select portions of the program will be streamed live around the world on Twitch, YouTube and PlayStation Network’s Live Event Viewer. And while it goes without saying, the event will include some story spoilers.

What a great way to spend a few of the last hours before release on Tuesday morning. More studios should stage this kind of event. See you on Twitch Monday night.

P.S. The Last of Us is actually my all-time favorite game. For every game, I have at least one complaint. However, I can’t think of any here. EXCEPT WHY ISN’T THERE SOME MODE ON MULTIPLAYER THAT HAS INFECTED?????

I hope I can catch it on time and I hope the stream will work out better than the E3 PSN video service goof up. I’m extreamly confused about my pre purchase digital edition of The Last Of Us PS4 version totally disappearing from my index? I sure hope it shows back up or at least some sort of explanation by midnight tonight, or I’ll be turning into my sub account ” aggressive-edge ” LOL.

This was really impressive! These guys nailed it. Why even cast actors for The Last Of Us movie? The original voice actors are clearly trained actors in general and not just voice actors. If you listened to these performances without looking at the video it felt like you were hearing the actual game.
Awesome live music from the game too. This is what I’m watching while waiting for TLoU: Remastered to finish downloading. =)
Why wasn’t this advertised or spread out to people? God I wished I would’ve been their. (I live a couple of miles from SM) If I would’ve known about this great event, I would’ve been the first on there. I’m a really huge fan of it and I even learned a couple of songs on guitar from the soundtrack BY EAR :p a really huge fan of Gustavo Santaolalla by the way. But even though I didn’t go to the event because of not hearing about it, I have a good feeling knowing that they were a good 3 miles in distance which is pretty nice in a way. But but overall huge fan of the best game ever produced. It really is true art!
