Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Collector’s Edition Revealed

Hey everyone,

John Vignocchi here, executive producer on Disney Infinity with the official announcement on the Collector’s Edition and PlayStation 3 Hardware Bundle for Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes!

Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes Collector's Edition

Earlier this year, our team started brainstorming about something special that we could do for PlayStation owners. After consulting with the Sony team on several ideas, Adam Boyes had noticed that our plan was to not release Hulk until post-launch. “Is there anyway we can pull that up for PlayStation fans?” he asked. It was at this moment that Gio Corsi (another member of Adam’s team and a huge Marvel fan) stood up and shouted “HULK SMASH RELEASE DATES!” in approval of the suggestion.

After some laughter and back-and-forth, we had come to a consensus on our execution: We would create some sort of cool carrying case that would include all components of our Starter Pack (which focuses on the Avengers), all of the additional Avengers characters that would be available at launch (including Captain America and Hawkeye), and we would allow Hulk to be sold early inside this PlayStation Collector’s Edition. Adam and his team also said that they wanted to bundle our Disney Infinity 2.0 Starter Pack with a PlayStation 3 console for Holiday 2014, which we found quite flattering.

After exploring numerous options for a carrying case, the team decided that none of them felt right for our fans. We decided to create a Collector’s Edition that could act more as a “collector’s display” for the various Disney Infinity figures, which is something our fans have been asking for us to create for a long time.

With that in mind, our amazing concept team at Avalanche began creating various sketches for what this collector’s display could be. We knew the Collector’s Edition should feel like a collector’s display, relate to the Disney Infinity Avengers Play Set story, and impress the discerning eye of the Marvel collector. We also knew it was going to be quite large, considering the display had to show off all characters from the Avengers Play Set and feature the Frost Beast based on the design the team had chosen. In the end, we all knew that if wanted to create a physical representation of this battle from the game… Well, this thing was going to be a lot bigger than we ever would have imagined!

Finally when Avalanche Software’s VP of Art, Jeff Bunker, got his hands on the initial prototype, he couldn’t just leave it alone. “You know — this thing should really be able to glow in the dark,” he said, as he half smiled and let out a soft sigh at the thought of all the additional work involved. Jeff even made each of the pedestals light up so that there is a glow underneath all of the characters.

Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes Collector's Edition

This is the “what it might look like glowing” concept that Jeff Bunker and his art team put together to show the guys at Sony…

In the end, our team put together a Collector’s Edition that we feel is representative of the quality that you have come to expect from the Disney Infinity brand, and something PlayStation gamers will be proud to own.

The exclusive PlayStation Collector’s Edition comes with the Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Starter Pack, all Avengers figures and the Frost Beast Collector’s Edition display. Pre-orders start soon at your favorite local retailer. Both will also be available for pre-order this week at San Diego Comic-Con at the Disney Infinity Pop-up Shop (343 4th Ave. San Diego, CA 92101) and at the Marvel booth inside the San Diego Convention Center.

Additionally, for those of you who have friends that have NOT picked up a PS3 and our fans of Marvel (and Disney!), our Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes PS3 hardware bundle will be available from Sony this fall. It features a 12GB PlayStation 3 and the Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Starter Pack for a steal at $249.99.

Thanks for reading, everyone, and thanks to all of our friends at Sony for being such great partners!

What’s the status on the Vita version? When is it coming? Is it going to be downgraded from the other versions? Bundle?

  • Looks great can’t wait to pick this up, looking forward to the Ultimate Spider-man playset the most.

  • Sharingan_itachi

    no vita…gj

  • Wow, this set looks epic! I want it, but I don’t think I have anywhere to put it in my house. It’s too big! (I’ll probably still buy it!)

  • is this disney infinity semi colon marvel super heroes open bracket 2.0 edition close bracket ?and is dave lang working on the vita version ?:)

  • This looks awesome! Count me in for a PS4 Collectors edition.

  • Thanks for the update, Johnny V :). Looking forward to details on the Vita version.

  • At first I thought you said that CE was $249 and I thought you lost your minds.

So uh, what’s the price on the CE?!

  • I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of the whole, “pay for each figure so you can play as that character in the game” business that NFC games have been pulling.

Still, THIS IS SO TEMPTING. WHY DISNEY?! WHY?!

    I must be strong and uphold my values! But… but… AWESOME MARVEL CHARACTERS AND FIGURES AND GAME AND…. ! D;

I am a man with a war being waged in my heart.

  • I’ve heard people say, that current owners can download 2.0 as an upgrade to the original, much like Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition and. Ultra Street Fighter IV. Is this true? And will there be a “Portal Owner’s Pack” available to purchase at retail stores, or are people stuck having to buy a new $75 set?

  • Day one purchase, Mr. Vignocchi! Enjoyed the first so much with my kids, and they can’t wait to jump in as the Hulk etc.

BUT WILL WE EVER SEE JOHNNY THE JUGGERNAUT?

  • I see 7 character slots, but only 6 characters in the video. Loki seems to be missing but I see him in one of the pics. Is he included or not? And what is the MSRP of this set? It really does look awesome

Normally I’d be annoyed that there wasn’t a Vita version, but the fact you guys have balls enough to bring this to the Vita when Skylanders still isn’t taking that plunge is still plenty in my book, so continued props to you guys for that.

  • oversevethousand

That is, Vita version of this collectors edition, I mean.

  • That’s pretty lame that instead of answering a paying customer’s question you just remove the picture. I would have been fine buying Loki separately if it was just an oversight that he was included in one of the pics but just blowing me off and covering your tracks is just shameful. It shows a real lack of respect for the people that pay your salaries

  • Can we get some info on whether or not the Vita version will be a watered-down Disney Infinity like the PC/iPad and 3DS versions were? It’s not available for preorder anywhere, and Sony and Disney have been extremely quiet on the subject since E3.

  • They have said it’ll be the same as the PS3 version. It’s one of the reason it’s launching at a later date I’m sure.

  • Ive been interested in this for awhile, was able to get a Nova Figure at Pax, so this is awesome to see and cant wait to be able to pre-order this!

  • I think they mean a PS4 Disney Infinity 2.0 Starter Pack, not PS3. The video does show a PS4…lol. Hmmm…

  • Thanks for the update Johnny V. Don’t have any kids, siblings, little cousins etc. but am getting this all for me!!

  • Hello,
I was wondering if Sony was planning on allowing sub-account to master-account upgrades anytime soon? On the PS3, the difference between a sub-account and a master account was negligible. But on the PS4 there is a vast difference – PS+, Billing information, Sharing, FB/Twitter, etc. Is Sony going to allow sub-accounts to have more functionality or allow them to upgrade or both? Thanks!

  • OMG when does this come available to preorder. Im such a huge Marvel nerd that my son’s middle name is Marvel. I cant believe my wife even said we can get this collectors set. I am more excited for this then i am for Destiny. lol

  • My heart sunk/stopped when I saw the price at the bottom, but then I realized it was for the bundle. SOOOOOO whats the actually price?

  • Congratulations on losing a customer. I’m well aware that mistakes happen but covering your tracks when asked about it by removing the picture and not responding with a simple yes/no about it or even acknowledging the error or even acknowledging that you did a quick edit to remove the picture is unacceptable

It’s pretty clear in the pictures that you didn’t sweep under the rug that there is a 7th character space on the display yet you only have 6 characters in the remaining picture but you clearly showed Loki as the 7th character on the far right space. These guys might not have seen it but I did. All I asked for was a clarification and I guess I got it in a roundabout childish way when you removed the picture showing Loki. I didn’t even care if I had to buy him separately but your mishandling of customers is unacceptable

  • BahumatIsBack calm down comic con starts tomorrow i’m sure they will announce the character. They would probably rather do a big announcement other than it just being leaked through out the internet and then saying and as you probably already know loki is now going to a be a playable character and will have his own figurine. So just wait obviously it is going to happen

  • WANT NOW!!!!!

  • I will not calm down. They didn’t remove the picture until after I asked about it so it’s clear they read my post. From the picture on the box it’s just 6 characters. If they are going to include a 7th character for the 7th character slot on that display then why not just say so? If all that’s included is those 6 characters and the 7th slot on that display is going to remain empty then why not just say so? And if it is some hush hush reveal at a later date then just say that they can’t talk about it.

It’s not whether or not Loki is actually going to be included. I would have bought him if he wasn’t because in the picture it just seemed to fit, but a quick edit without any kind of explanation or at the very least acknowledgement of what I saw and asked them about is just plain disrespectful. I would have taken any kind of response but no response is a bugger off in my books. Guess they didn’t want my money

  • It’s a shame too because I would have bought the game just for the awesome display they put together and I never buy collector’s editions

  • For those that are actually interested in what was pulled from this thread I found a link. I’m sure they won’t let me post a link but just replace the dots. Own up to it one way or the other

  • slow your role fool!! there obviously appears that another character is in the works potentially for this collector’s edition, maybe, maybe not. give them some time, maybe they want to announce it later perhaps? and maybe the photo showing Loki wasn’t meant to be shown yet or it was a mistake which is why it was removed? not because of your pretentious entitled little blog posts

  • meant that for BahmatIsBlack

  • Saw another post that the MSRP for the Disney Infinity 2.0 CE is $179.99 vs. the $74.99 of the SE.

If that is true there is no way I see a $105 of value here as each new character is $14.99 MSRP so roughly $45 making the CE stand $60.

I’ll await a final confirmation but I just don’t see me buying this if that is the true MSRP of the CE

  • Seriously, $180?? If that’s the case, I’ll preorder, but this WON’T be a day one buy. I want this for the full Avenger set, but no offense Sony, that base is not worth $60 to me.

  • What about VIta? :\

  • A) I am all about buying this! Looks sweet!
    B) Why no love for the Superhero Sale going on PSN since yesterday? That sale is amazballs! Batman: Arkham Origin for $8.40? Blackgate for $4.20?! Injustice Ultimate Edition for $8.40?!? LEGO Marvel for $10.50?!?! Take my money!!

  • I’m expecting Sony to get in on this trend with collectible figures of Kratos, Crash (licensed), Delsin, Sackboy, Sweet Tooth, Robbit, etc. for an update to Playstation All-Stars :))

  • The game is already $75 dollars and isn’t worth that. Why the Collectors Edition? $12 characters and $30 “playsets”… then make your own stuff… The reason Skylanders is better than Disney Infinity is because they can use all the characters whenever the want to and it’s not like Oh this character can only be used in the Toy Box where you have to make up your own levels, which is boring. They’re both ripoffs though. make the games $40 and then make characters $5 and you’d really have a winner. You still have to give people more content in the initial purchase though..

Also what is the deal with no Vita version?

  • Too expensive. And all characters should have their own content – I stopped playing the original because $15 standalone characters had no gameplay content – that’s a ripoff!

  • Well, this is a real kick in the teeth from Disney!!!

Thanks for overcharging for your collector’s edition!!

Six characters instead of the basic three and one free one that everybody is getting adds under $30 to the base $75 price tag. So, we’re spending nearly $200 on something valued at less than $105.

That light up PLASTIC stand is NOT worth $95!!!!!!

  • that’s really tough it would be cool if there was a vita version too

  • you should also add different teams and CAPCOM WHICH WOULD BE REALLY SICK

  • How is everyone saying it costs too much when the price isn’t out. The only price I see is the bundle that comes with the PS3.

  • @KidGreengene: They announced pricing today and it’s available for pre-order from GameStop for $199 and Best Buy for $179.

  • I’m buying this too.

  • @warlock7 – GameStop matched Best Buy’s price and they’re throwing in an extra free figure. Looks like I might be able to get that Loki character after all to match that picture they had posted before pulling it when asked about it without even a response

  • @BahumatlsBack: Better… Not worth the extra scratch though. Because you get that free figure with any starter set too. Disney promised a FREE HULK figure to every Playstation buyer at their announcement at E3. The “FREE” figure from any retailer counts for that, I guess, but it comes with all starter sets now. Still can’t justify $85 for that plastic light up stand.

  • @43… I digress. Da-yummm, that is expensive. After getting a discount for it shipping a day late, this is pretty much what I spent on my Titanfall CE… and this is just a figure stand. I guess Disney 2.0 is a complete pass for me until that stand comes down in price.

  • @KidGreengene: Don’t ignore the standard edition starter pack which runs for $75. It has three Avengers figures and all retailers are going to be giving away a free figure when you get any starter pack. This collector’s edition may be WAY overpriced, but the starter pack is still not a bad deal – only missing the extra figures which you can pick up separately and the stand. For the cost difference it’s worth it to go with the pre-order of the starter pack. If this set were $150, then they might have something…

  • You say PS3, but the images say PS4, so… which system is this bundle for, to clarify?

  • Pre-ordered mine yesterday…er…I mean my son’s…yeah…that’s the ticket. ;-)
