New Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Trailer – The Bright Master

Today we’re unveiling a brand new trailer for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor that reveals the long-speculated identity of the Wraith, the mysterious Spirit of vengeance that has denied protagonist Talion’s death.

All of us at Monolith Productions are extremely excited to announce that the Wraith is the greatest smith of Middle-earth’s Second Age, the Elf-lord Celebrimbor.

New Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Trailer – The Bright Master

Celebrimbor’s impact on Middle-earth is momentous. His skilled hands forged the Rings of Power.

Celebrimbor was once a genuine challenger to The Dark Lord, and still wields the power to vanquish Sauron, especially after his defeat by The White Council at Dol Goldur. After all, they’ve met on the battlefield before, centuries prior to the events of Shadow of Mordor.

Celebrimbor’s tale is one that we knew needed to be told. His moral pedigree is far from black and white. His downfall was terrible, and driven by pride. And, that’s only scratching the surface.

  • So excited about this. I have this reserved and paid for in full.

  • Looks pretty awesome i havent preordered it yet but i might grab this now for my ps4 =D, but i have only 1 question is this a long game? I like long rpgs that keep me busy for awhile.

  • OMG… Celebrimbor!?!??!?! Nerdgasm!!!!, now, this game is sold for me.

  • This trailer is sick, you are doing an amazing job with the marketing campaign and the game looks really good, I hope you can succeed at making a great one. Looking forward to it.

  • It’s amazing to me that most major sites have no problem completely spoiling the surprise right in the text of the article (or even in the title on some sites).

The trailer is completely badass, but a part of me wishes I didn’t see it. That is a MAJOR reveal to anyone who has either read The Silmarillion and/or keeps up on Middle-earth lore.

  • @6

If it’s being openly discussed by the developers and news outlets alike, I’m preeeeeeeeeetty sure it was never meant to be a surprise in the first place.

Can’t spoil a surprise that was never supposed to be a surprise in the first place.

  • As much as it would have been cool if this was a “surprise reveal” during the game, I believe the developers have good reason for revealing a crucial detail.

The majority of current LotR fans stem from people who have only watched the movies. Some (myself included), read the original LotR trilogy after seeing the movies, but have not delved any deeper into the rich history or mythology that is built up in Tolkien’s world.

Leaving this as a surprise, I’m sure most people playing this game would end up scratching their heads, wondering where this character came from. Better that the developers explain the history and the figure first, and then give us the story to enjoy. We can still learn of his plight and experience Talion’s journey and interaction with Celembrimbor fully with just a bit of basic knowledge.

  • The surprise has been let out of the bag too soon! But still, really excited to play this. Looks like a lot of fun.

  • Is it really going to be released on September 30, or is it another typo?

  • Please show us some gameplay footage. I think we’ve all been burned by awesome cutscene videos for games that ended up being horrible. We just want to know how the game actually plays so we know what we’re getting into. I want to like this game, but need a little more info

  • Thank you so much Monolith and WB for crafting such a beautiful game in a brand new original story, in the mythos of The hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings. I am such a fan of your possible storyline, and I can tell that this project has truly been a labor of love for the developers by the shear excitement of Michael and Christian when speaking about the game. It’s makes me even more pumped to take the ride. I am hoping and praying that this game becomes a series, if the buildup to it’s release is any indication I’d say that Monolith truly has created one game to rule them all. Congratulations Monolith your success is truly deserved with the love and care you put into Shadows development, this fan will be supporting your work at midnight at Game-stop. The talent they’ve recruited bringing the characters to life is with out a doubt the best in the business, thanks for creating a great game based on the universe instead of a mediocre game based the books and movies. • SPOILER ALERT: The greatest smiith of the Second Age, Celebrimbor, died for his torment, under torture for not revealing where he had sent the greatest of the rings of power for safe-keeping, (greatest save the One Ring itself). The three rings of power being sent away for safe-keeping. He was last of the line of Fëanor whom was his grand-sire. Fëanor crafted the very simirils which lit the two trees, Telperion and Laurelin, in Aman where the Valar lived, whilst middle-earth remained dark. He also invented tengwar, the beautiful script that was used maliciously to write the black speech on to the One Ring. Sauron, just like Satan, is a great deceiver. He had tricked Celebrimbor into making the seven, and the nine, yet although the three as I have stated were unsullied by Sauron, there was a connexion between these rings, which in the end, led to the elves having to leave middle-earth, as we see at the end of Return of the King. Even so the elves knew they had been deceived when Sauron began etching the black speech onto the One Ring, hence they took them off… I look forward to hearing Celebrimbor’s story within this game.
