Surgeon Simulator Anniversary Edition on PS4 August 12th

We are delighted, happy, excited — all of the good words — to announce that Surgeon Simulator, Anniversary Edition is almost here. On August 12th, we’re going to unleash it on the PS4 in North America and then stand back and marvel as the universe changes.

In all seriousness, we know that you’re thinking. You’ve seen this game before, you’ve watched a million YouTube Let’s Plays, and you’ve maybe even dressed as a surgeon or nurse in your free time to hone your surgical skills. Perhaps you even sent us photographs. So this A & E edition — what’s different?

We had a lot of feedback from our fans about the operations we released exclusively on iPad. Many didn’t have iPads, and wanted to be able to complete the new eye and teeth transplants. They were sad. This made us sad.

There was only one solution: the A & E edition. This version of the game contains all of the best parts from the Steam and iPad release all in one convenient package, for your gaming pleasure. The eye and teeth transplants and trolley mode from the iPad version of the game are all here, as well as the original operating theatre, ambulance, space and alien spacecraft operations. All of the operations that you have no doubt perfected, and can do with your eyes closed, well. They work on a CONTROLLER too. A CONTROLLER. The future is here!

We’ve also have something very cool that is exclusive to the PS4 version of the game. Our awesome (and twisted) dev team wanted to make sure that this newest version of the game was even more nightmare-inducingly fun and are just making the final touches to the new mode making sure everything is tickety-boo . . .Nigel’s arm shaved, his nails manicured, new watch batteries, that kind of thing. You know what we do. We will be able to reveal all VERY soon, but not right now. Where would be the fun in that? All we CAN say is that it’s something our community asked for. Daily. And we hate to disappoint.

  • Hey Poppy,

This looks like a lot of fun. I look forward to seeing the mayhem on “Live from PlayStation”.

    Cheers!!!

    • Hey there.

There’s going to be a lot of mayhem, that’s for sure. There’s a little something that we haven’t mentioned yet, but you know what we’re like.

      We love surprises!

      ~ Poppy

  • I’ve somehow never played this. I’m looking forward to finally doing so on PS4!

  • Looking forward to this. I already own the PC version, but I admittedly almost never play games on my PC. I’ll be picking this up day 1.

Any details on the price yet?

    • Heya.

As soon as we can let you know, we will. It will be less than the price of a Ferrari, but more than a cola bottle candy sweet, FYI. ;)

  • Haha I love this game. I’ve watched a few videos of people playing it and always wanted to try it. Unfortunately I’m not a PC gamer so I thought I’d never be able to play it. This is a day one buy.

Is there going to be any kind of cooperative mode? Like where one person controls the arm movement and someone else controls the hand. Would be so amazing.

    • Hey there.

Co-op mode does sound amazing, doesn’t it? It’s something that we’ve thought about, but you know what game development is like. BUSY TIMES ALL THE TIME.

Who knows what may happen in the future though. :)

  • Day 1 purchase. I’m guessing the Playing:Livestreaming ratio will be about 1:1 on this one. haha

  • PS Move support and price?
    Thank you.

    • Heya!

Move is something that we haven’t tried yet, but if it works….we may not be able to resist!

      The price is $12.99.

  • Looking forward to playing this finally! Have seen lots of footage from the game, but never had the chance to own it myself. PS Move support would also be pretty cool.

  • No mention of PS Move support? What’s going on here sony? Help these guys out! Throw them a bone!

  • I remember when this was a board game called “Operation” ! LOL

  • surgeon!?! more like a Hostel movie!

disgusting, wont try it even if given for free

    • Not everyone can step up and answer the call to be a surgeon, that’s for sure, but that’s OK. No-one is judging. ;)

  • This game looks quite simulating.

  • +1 for PS Move support. It seems this is the kind of game that would make everyone go out and buy one.

  • Hey can you add youtube to the share button thing so people can add their videos on YouTube alot easier also if you do think about doing this let me know on twitter @rhysbetts98 or tweet this on your page also do it so people can edit their videos before posting it

  • Let’s get our surgery on, folks…it’s be a long day…

    Lost my watch again…

  • Been wanting to play this since Michael did a rage quit of it on Rooster teeth.

    • Those videos were awesome, weren’t they? They inspired us so much, we even named one of the alien organs after them (gavichal).

  • No thanks. Hated it on PC. The only appeal of this game is for people who think they are funny by streaming it or making YouTube videos. Sadly 99% of the people making videos won’t be funny.

  • Haha, so disturbing looking. Luv it

  • I have this on pc it’s pretty good. hope the ps4 version is better. what will replace the tf2 suregy.

  • Have it on PC and it’s too funny to pass up. I gotta get it for the PS4 upon release.

  • Man, this is the kind of game that SCREAMS for Move support.

  • Not supporting move would be a huge missed opprotunity

  • I need two things. A good price, and a demo.

  • More like torture and murder simulator.

    wow..no.

    • Nigel Burke doesn’t mean to hurt anyone – his aim is to save Bob. He’s just a little….underskilled for the surgeon role. ;)

  • Never knew this was coming to ps4. Any chance of Move Support? Or perhaps a Vita version? touch controls + buttons!

    • Heya! We’re full of surprises!

Move support isn’t one of them, I’m afraid. Only because we haven’t really thought about it, not because we have ruled it out.

  • Anyone asking for PlayStation Move support is basically requesting the remove the difficulty from the game.

    Also, lighten up @26.

  • Meh.. Would prefer some actual new PS4 only games – but hey old flavors if the month are cool too…For a minute.. When your’re drunk.

  • Seems Perfect for PS Move support. I really hope I can use my Move controller with this game. Thanks!

  • This is definitely a game that needs Move support.

  • This seems a little to over the top for my taste but nonetheless sounds like bloody fun.

  • I think that it would be quite amazing to see Move Support for the game (Even though I don’t own one). Also, what will the price be?

  • Like a surgeon…oooow…for the very first time! (Thank Weird Al for this one). Looks interesting, I would buy this in a heartbeat.

  • Does it support PlayStation move? The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the headline.

    • Heya!

It doesn’t…yet. We haven’t actually tried it yet, but I’m sure we’ll at least ATTEMPT to make it work!

  • not answering any of the repeated questions about Move support mean I’ll be skipping this.

Move and co-op support would be really, really cool. Adapting a game like this for DS4, even with the touchpad, seems like a step back from some of the great PS3 Move control schemes.

    • Move support – not yet. We haven’t tried it yet, to be honest.

We’re going to take a look and see if we can make it work.

Co-op, well. It could be done. It could be amazing. Let’s see what happens……

  • Had tons of fun with the PC version and I’m real glad to see it come to PS4, especially as a non-iPad owner!

Really curious to see how Surgeon Simulator translates to the DualShock 4 controller. Will you also be using the touchpad or motion controls? Maybe even the lightbar to flash red at…certain moments? Maybe extra sound effects from the speaker?

You don’t have to answer to this part, but I’m also throwing my hat in for Move support. Totally understandable if you couldn’t get that in (game development ‘n all), but I can still see it being a bit awkward and not terribly easy as some might think; Look at Octodad! Not to mention even MORE fun to see on Let’s Plays flailing about in-game and in-person!

Can’t wait to see all the Live from PlayStation streams next week!

    • Heya!

We’ve made the 6 axis controller (the tilty thing) control the arm, so now you have to move around to control Mr Burke’s arms. It’s hilarious. Wait and see!

Move – read the other replies on here. It’s a maybe, but it’s a big maybe. :)

  • I can’t wait for this game i really with to have a clicker from the last of us as a patient lol!

  • Can we expect a The Last Of Us surgery, sorta like playing as one of the surgeons operating on immune patients. That would be pretty cool. Possible DLC?

    • How awesome would that be?

I’m sure Naughty Dog wouldn’t want us ripping up their beautiful characters though…

  • @39 & 38 The Last of Us is a bit too serious for a crossover with this game. TF2 was gory, but also goofy which made it a good crossover.

Something like Loadout would work well, since thats coming to PS4 as well at some point and is visually and thematically similar to TF2.

Move support is a must. As is eventual Morpheus support once thats a thing. I mean just look at the Hydra/OculusRift combo on PC, I gotta get me some of that.

    • Morpheus is something that we’re really into, and I’m sure that it will happen at some point.

      Move – we’ll see. :)

  • looks like a september free psn plus game lol

  • No move support no buy.

  • How much is this going to cost?

  • This looks hilarious! Will buy for sure!

  • this look like a laugh might have to get it ! what the controls like for this?

  • I hope that Gynaecology and Urology DLC is in the works :) :) :)

  • @Poppy Byron, no replies to PS Move support. The move should be great with the PS4 and camera.

    • Heya! This different time zone thing makes replying difficult!

Move support – so many people are asking, we’re going to have to at least TRY it. We can’t promise anything, as we’ve never made stuff for Move before. We’ll see what happens…

  • Sooooo… How are you going 2 control the game with the dualshock 4??

    • Heya!

You move the arm by tilting the controller, so you actually have to move your arms around to make it work. It’s hilarious! And frustrating. And amazing.

  • I LOVE THE MUSICE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I want to cast my vote for a co-op mode. I only really buy games so I can play them with my wife and son, so as soon as that’s added, you can count me in!

Thank you for bringing a unique game to PS4, regardless. I wish you guys great success.
