The Drop: New PlayStation Games for 8/19/2014
The Drop

Dark fantasy quests and Cold War operations join together in a massive week of gaming, with tons of new games joining the PlayStation family this Tuesday.

Malthael, the Angel of Death, has invaded the world of Sanctuary in Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition on PS4 and PS3. Wade into battle with the new Crusader class, and tackle Act V in one of the most iconic action RPGs in gaming history. Uncover legendary loot, unlock powerful spells, equip awe-inspiring weaponry, and horde mountains of gold in Blizzard’s latest chapter in the Diablo series. And for those that already began a quest on the original Diablo III on PS3, carry over hero progress into Reaper of Souls without missing a step.

But that’s just the beginning. Keep the world’s super powers at bay in Counterspy — a stylized action game set in the Cold War — on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. Infiltrate enemy positions, use wit and cunning, and keep the governments of the world from tearing each other to pieces.

For a complete list of games coming to PlayStation this week, read on. And enjoy the Drop!

  • Tales of Xillia 2 FINALLY! *disappears into locked room for 2 weeks with a supply of food and drink*

  • Ryan do you know how much Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will be? I’m curious since it comes with its PSP predecessor Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment that has upgraded visuals and that makes me think it might or might not be the usual $40 for a Vita game.

  • Tales of Xillia-2 and Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment this week, so mean to put them out on the same day. Got the Xillia-2 Collector’s Edition paid off and spared room on my Vita for Sword Art Online. A good week for me.

To answer some general Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment questions:
    – The game will be 39.99, and DLC for the game will be free until November 18th?
    – The game will not have online play, only ad-hoc
    – Multiplayer within the game is only you being able to play with other people that are inside the game, not online play.

  • Clemeeents, BEYOND!

  • So when is the download a list actually going to be made useful and coherent in Vita? How long do we have to ask for that? Getting kinda sick of Sony outright ignoring the Vita and its owners

  • *downloads list

    Stupid autocorrect

  • Preload is live!

  • Finally you can pre Load Diablo 3 cant wait till tuesday will pick up Plants V Zombies eventually maybee ;)

  • Wow really? What a line up of crappy games! I can’t believe this I’m getting a zbox!

  • Going for Diablo (which I pre ordered digitally on PS4), Last Tinker, Xillia 2 & SAO Fragment. All 3 platforms are taking a bite out of my wallet this week it seems! Might have to check out Kung Fu Rabbit too, love that classic kung fu movie premise!

  • How much will Crimsonland and Sword art online be? any PS+ price?

  • @3
You have to know by now something is always ALWAYS screwed up in a blog post made by the regular crew. Whether its a typo in a sale price, a bad release date on a title or announcing early pre loading on something. Unfortunately Destiny was announced as the first early pre load game I know other early release titles were announced afterward but those may have been screw ups.

    @12
PS4 games are on sale in the EU store literally almost every ps4 game indie and AAA as part of their summer sale

  • Between Diablo 3, Counterspy and The Last Tinker, I have no idea what I will be playing this week. Too many choices!

  • The vita is getting the better games, there hasn’t been a game worth of my attention for ps4 other than The Evil Within, but I have to wait till October for it, I. The meantime I’ll keep playing the P.T. demo.

  • SAOOOOOO!!!!
Can’t wait!!!! Omg omg omg xD

  • i would love to be able to buy sao hollow fragment but no dub = no buy, thank god xillia 2 has a dub

  • Ryan Clements works for Sony now? I missed him since he left IGN :(

Also a good week. Tales of Xillia and Plants Vs Zombies. Squeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • I Love The Drops, I Love All The Amazing Games Of PSVita That Are Coming, But Why They Not Come On Physical Version!!!

Yes, I Am Talking About You Sword Art Online, And The Other Thousand Digital Esclusive Games

  • This is an awesome week. I’d love to be able to get them all, but I will have to settle for getting the best of them..

    Sword ART ONLINE!!!!!! AWESSSSSOOOOOOMMMMMMEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

And Diablo isn’t bad either. :)

  • One of the best weeks so far for the PS4. We have a couple of interesting indies a couple of AAA titles and one classic retro to the max game. Something there to satisfy most anyone. I’ll be picking up Hotline Miami and not entire sure but a good chance I’ll also buy The Last Tinker: City of Colors.

  • It was also announced by Bamco during the week that a major update will be heading over to North America for Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment on September 23. (That same update showed up for the Japanese version of the game in July, and reportedly added about 30 hours’ worth of new content to the game.)

I’m somewhat disappointed at how far down the list SAO:HF is here, and how quickly it was fast-forwarded past in the latest Blogcast. The Japanese version of the game has sold more than 200,000 copies, which isn’t too far off the lifetime sales of games like Freedom Wars in that country.

Still, hopefully the game does well enough to encourage Bamco to bring other “niche anime” tie-in games over in the future, such as The Irregular at Magic High School: Out of Order (another PS Vita game, this one based on the Mahouka franchise; it’s due out in Japan on October 30) and the reported sequel to SAO:HF itself (which, according to reports elsewhere, may already be in the planning phases over in Japan).

And since the Japanese version currently runs on the Vita TV, I’m hoping there won’t be any issues with running the Western edition on PlayStation TV once that system shows up in North America later in the year.

  • So if Hotline miami is coming to PS4 and its cross buy? does that mean people that have already bought it for PS3 and Vita will get it for PS4 no charge right?…… ;)

  • Still no price on Sword Art Online? :/

  • I’m glad to see the PS4 getting a classic retro game such as Rygar!

I also hope they include some of the perks and options we’ve come to love from the finely crafted M2 developed collections (Sega Vintage Classics, Neo•Geo Station, Capcom Arcade Cabinet). Scanlines and 1:1 video options are a must when playing these classics on an LCD or Plasma HDTV display. Extras such as a music jukebox, online co-op, trophies, archived artwork unlockables also go a long way to give the player more bang for their buck!

I’d love to see Sony setup a universal arcade frontend for the PS4.
An interactive arcade setting (I.E. Home “Namco Arcade”) where you could collect retro arcade games and home consoles, then have the option of inviting friends over to hang out and play games. I think Game-Share would work great in this scenario as well.

  • Can’t wait for Tales of Xillia 2. With out a doubt, that is my most anticipated home console game this year. Although I guess that might change if KH 2.5 turns out to be better.

  • Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, I read in the Siliconera website that would come with Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment 2 on 1 … is this true or will sell separate =?

  • I’m not sure about this whole pre-load thing. Diablo 3 is actually on my PS4 now and I can’t play it! What a tease!

  • Diablo 3 is a 28 gig game, but it stopped downloading at 5,200 MB’s and said it was installed… really want to be able to jump right in on tuesday, not have to wait for it to finish the rest before i can play without lag.

  • Looking at the list…
    SAO is Digital only?

  • @ sanity1: So far, the games that I’ve pre-ordered/pre-loaded have had timers that hit 0 at midnight EST, so if I had been home at 9pm (I’m PST), I’d have been able to play it. I’d imagine Diablo 3: RoS UEE would work the same way.

  • Freakin Rygar!!!!!!!!

  • Why SAO only Digital??? :/ i have all my games physicals, for two reasons. 1. I dont have credit card to buy digital and I dont like use the psn cards and 2. Because I dont have enough space on my memory cards, why dont you do a physical version of SAO WHY!!!!!!

  • Any idea on the price for Sword Art Online?

Thank you for bringing every SMT title on the ps2 to us. There is so much more titles that every one enjoys that was a blast from the past. i will be posting this on every drop and every sale to get these games released!!!

  • Hey Ryan, what about the Golf Club Game? Why are we having to wait? Xbox and PC are getting it this week.

  • Sword Art!!!! Please tell me infinity moment comes with?

  • @80

    Hollow Fragment IS Infinity Moment…

Infinity Moment was upgraded with better visuals and additional content and rereleased for the ps vita as Hollow Fragment.

  • I’m so excited for Tales of Xillia 2… but I just have my doubts if the PS Store will be updated in time for me to actually enjoy it on Tuesday or if I’d be better off just going and buying it in store… I’ve been burned by slow PS Store updates too often…

  • Huge week for PS4.
What is the Rygar Arcade Achives?
Is Arcade Achives part of some larger retro program?

  • Awesome line up Sony loving it! Ps lol it’s my birthday!!!!!

  • Hi to everybody, thanks for that great list of games this week once again, but i want to Know…..about NHL 15…… each year the release of the demo and the pre-order on the PSN for the game is on the psn around august 20….but this year, no news about nothing, not in the drop list…So Please i really want to know when it will be release on the psn…..Can’t wait try this game on my PS4 for the first time and make my pre-order….otherwise i will go preorder it at EB games.

  • Two more games to take over my life: Tales of Xillia 2 (Still have to finish the first one) and Sword Art Online (loved the anime, don’t care what anyone says!)

WHERE’S MY SAO FANS AT!?!? :D

  • I use to love Rygar and now I can hardly remember it. I know I played it nonstop though back in the day.

  • Do we have price info on Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment?

(No, I’m not complaining about the lack of prices on the Drop, I’m just asking)

  • This would be a perfect moment to release Minecraft for Playstation 4. 4J Studios gave the PS4 Edition to Sony August 12th for final testing. Who knows, maybe they’ll keep it as a surprise.
