The Drop: New PlayStation Games for 8/19/2014
The Drop

Dark fantasy quests and Cold War operations join together in a massive week of gaming, with tons of new games joining the PlayStation family this Tuesday.

Malthael, the Angel of Death, has invaded the world of Sanctuary in Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition on PS4 and PS3. Wade into battle with the new Crusader class, and tackle Act V in one of the most iconic action RPGs in gaming history. Uncover legendary loot, unlock powerful spells, equip awe-inspiring weaponry, and horde mountains of gold in Blizzard’s latest chapter in the Diablo series. And for those that already began a quest on the original Diablo III on PS3, carry over hero progress into Reaper of Souls without missing a step.

But that’s just the beginning. Keep the world’s super powers at bay in Counterspy — a stylized action game set in the Cold War — on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. Infiltrate enemy positions, use wit and cunning, and keep the governments of the world from tearing each other to pieces.

For a complete list of games coming to PlayStation this week, read on. And enjoy the Drop!

  • diablo 3 is the only thing that matters this week!!!!!

  • @91

Not true. The Infinity Moment content is only a portion of Hollow Fragment.

  • As noted by the poster in #53 above, Bamco are listing SAO:HF at $39.99:

    http://bandainamcous.tumblr.com/post/94547360716/sword-art-online-hollow-fragments-vita-release

(I don’t know if that is in both US and Canadian dollars, but we’ll find out in a few days.)

By the way, if you have the YouTube app on your PS Vita, you can subscribe to Daisuki’s YT channel and catch each week’s new episode of SAO II on there. (They remove the last week’s episode once the new one is set to go up.) They used to upload it the same day as the Japanese airing, but now have a few days’ worth of delay to the process.

Plus the show (to include season 1 and the Extra Edition bonus episode) is available via the Vita Crunchyroll app, albeit with a premium subscription. (There are free samples of each season’s first episode.)

  • It’s like 1/3 remake to 2/3rds sequel/expansion

  • Can we get some details on the Arcade Archives games?

    1. Is this just restricted to Tecmo games?
(I’d love to see Capcom, Konami, Irem, SNK, Taito, Hudson, Sega, ETC join in.)

    2. How much will they be priced for each game?
(Hopefully no more than $5 or sales will be bleak.)

    3. Will the games all launch from a single front-end program such as Neo-Geo Station, Capcom Arcade Cabinet, Pinball Arcade?
(I think it’s much better to do it like this since the games are so tiny. It’s also a waste of space to have a new trophy entry for each game.)

    4. Will there be online co-op on games that originally supported it and are there emulated scanline ans other video options?
(I’m hoping so. It really gives people more value for their money and allows you to play classic games with old friends who may not live locally anymore.)

  • Suikoden 2 on the PS Store, with a obligatory “Kept you waiting, huh?” post on the blog when it’s finally done.

  • What is Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment for Vita exactly? It says its an MMORPG “like” game. What does that mean? Does it mean it has the elements of an MMO but it can be played offline? Is it like Ragnorok Odyssey where you can adventure offline but can do multiplayer if you want? If so, does this mean when they say you can “recruit party members” do they mean if you don’t want to play with other people, you could play offline with ai? Some clarification would be helpful because I am confused as to what this game entails. The biggest difference to me is that is it always online? Or can it be played offline? Or does it have servers you have to log in on? Thanks for any feedback. Other then that, if it can be played offline, I have 2 games to look forward to instead of just one (that one being Counterspy :D)

  • 1 ps4 diablo 3 = 2 ps3 diablo 3. Thats not fair…

  • About time for Tales of Xillia 2 to come out. I can’t wait to get the Collector’s Edition and put that awesome Ludger figure on my shelf. I’m so excited to play it!

  • Not a bad week for PS4. I have Counter-Spy preordered. I’ll probably get Diablo 3 as well.

  • Where’s Minecraft?! If it doesn’t come out soon, I’ll definitely buy Plants vs Zombies!

  • Oh yeah, so this week for me:

    Counterspy
    Diablo 3
    Hotline Miami PS4
    Tales of Xillia 2

And I’m likely going to grab SAO if I’ve got enough cash. I’m scared to look at my bank account lol

  • Can’t wait for Diablo 3 and Hotline Miami almost there!

  • @106

“Sword Art Online” is the name of the game-world your character (Kirito) is trapped in, along with thousands of others.

The story is set in the early-to-mid 2020s. Kirito (and the other SAO gamers/prisoners) have logged onto a virtual world (or VRMMORPG) using a device called a NerveGear you wear on your head in the real world. The problem is that the creator of SAO has prevented players from logging out again, unless they can clear all 100 floors of Aincrad, the floating castle which SAO is set in. And if you die in the game, you die in real life…

Story-wise, the game branches off into its own timeline at around episode 14 of the SAO anime, which causes things to go in a very different direction.

Game-wise, SAO:HF is a single-player role-playing game. Despite the name, there is no “online” component. (You usually have an AI-controlled partner you play alongside, who you can also interact with in the story portions of the game.)

  • @105: An easier way to explain it is that it’s a single player MMORPG. Meaning, you have a vast world around you that involves a lot of PC’s (that are played by AI). It’s an offline game. No servers, no dealing with other people. It’s just you and how you want to make it (within story of course).

And hi! First time posting but figured I’d help. XD Can’t wait till the game comes out!

  • If we own Hotline Miami through ps+, can we also download it on the ps4? Some people said yes but was never confirmed.

  • @55: Download list sucking is a PSN issue, not Vita issue. So associating the two is dumb. Sony not fixing the download list doesn’t have anything to do woth Vita

  • @114

It was 100% confirmed on the post from Devolver announcing the release of the game. Hotline Miami PS4 is retroactive cross-buy. If you own one, you own them all. Download it to your PS4 without worry.

  • Picking up Diablo 3 PS4 tuesday and Metro Redux on following tuesday, both Retail copies of course.
Man…Rygar. I beat that game on the Pretend-O Entertainment systemu when i was whippersnapper :)

Would to see more 100% Arcade classics from Tecmo such as Tecmo knight, Star force and Solomon’s key. Sega’s Golden Axe 3 and many of their arcade catalogue woul be welcome too.

  • This was probably answered but for those with the pre load not working, I thought that started with Destiny? So maybe the “option” to is a glitch, but last I recall was Destiny would be the first title with Pre Loading and everything after would follow

  • @118

Destiny was supposed to be the first “official” pre-load title, but there have been several since that announcement. Last of Us Remastered was preloaded, iirc.

  • @ 112 and 113

Awesome! Then I think I will pick up this game. Though it will be in English right? Will it be both dubbed and subbed in English? Or just subbed? Or is it not known yet?

  • @11: SAO: Hollow Fragment does NOT have online Multiplayer. It is ad-hoc multiplayer only and does NOT support Ad-Hoc Party or other similar applications and programs..

  • I will be getting Tales of Xillia 2 Collector’s Edition from GameStop and SAO: HF from PSN on Tuesday. They are the only ones listed so far that I am interested in getting.

  • SWORD ART ONLINE! YES! THANK YOU BASED BAMCO!

  • So many this week…

    Diablo 3
    Counterspy
    The Last Tinker
    SAO

Good thing I haven’t started Xillia 1, so Xillia 2 can wait.

  • @101

    I see…

    My mistake then.

  • Arcade Archives? piqued my interest… are there more planned??

  • @41 just because you do not want the game does not mean only kids want the game

  • Diablo III finally! I’m so glad the drop week for Diablo is finally here. Just 2 more days!

  • So many great releases! I have to wait though, see if any go on sale or ps+ – Already have games I’m purchasing day1. So many great releases 2nd half of the year

  • Tinker looks cool i might have to pick that up if the price is right looks like what i was hoping knack would be to bad knack was not super great hopefully this fills the gap i have really been missing games like Jak and daxter which is may only platinum

  • To those who don’t know what Sword Art Online is about, it is NOT LITERALLY MMORPG…. It’s only the PLOT of the game. It doesn’t have online co-op. Japan version released adhoc patch so maybe American version too will have a patch later.

  • Diablo 3 is downloading on my ps4, the wait will be tough!!

  • Tales of Xillia 2 WINS THE WEEK. Gonna be rushing out first thing on Tuesday to pick that up!

  • About time we had an amazing week of games. So much good stuff… so little money. PvZ on PS4 is the must have for me this week.

  • Wait…y’all dropping the original arcade Rygar? I don’t know…if I can handle this lol

  • So what if you already own Hotline Miami, do you have to purchase it again for the ps4 version??

  • hi Ryan Clements i am wondering are we ever going to see digimon world 1 digimon world 2 and digimon world 3 and digimon rumble arena and digimon rumble arena 2 on the PlayStation store anytime soon i really love those game and i want to play them again hope to hear back soon on this thank you

  • Were is Minecraft for ps4 and vita? D:

  • Where*

  • Tales if xilla 2! Awesomeness

  • I ran into a lot of post saying SAO is $39.99 a few annoucements though:

    http://tay.kotaku.com/sword-art-online-hollow-fragment-dlc-announced-1620090209 which mentions this >>>>

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will be available in the Americas on August 19th, 2014exclusively for PlayStation®Vita via digital download only at $39.99.

Twitter, FB, and some other also saying the price would be $39.99.

  • daxter1100 I don’t believe those games will becoming to psn marketplace because of License issue. That is why people are trying to get a petition for US to get Digimon Cyber Sleuth roughly around 2015-2016 in Japan.

  • Is hotline miami crossbuy with the vita version?

  • Any news on when minecraft vita comes out?
also guys it makes no sense that a lot of great PS1 Classics are not avavable for the vita, Crash and Spyro for North American Vitas for example……

  • SAO?!!! I think I’m going to cry… I’d hoped for an English port but didn’t think there was any plans for it.

  • Diablo 3 is all that matters.

  • If we already own the ps3 hotline miami and it is a cross buy for all three platforms…does that mean I will have the ps4 version this week since I have the ps3 version?
