Freedom Wars Launching October 28th for PS Vita

Earlier last week, Justin from PlayStation.Blog was kind enough to share his personal experiences with the 4-player co-op mode with Freedom Wars. While most of you really enjoyed the video, some of the repeated questions and comments from the thread included:

  • What’s up with the release date?
  • Where are the pre-order DLCs?
  • How do I get the pre-order if I purchase from PlayStation Store?

Well, we’re here to answer those questions today!

To begin, we are incredibly thrilled to officially announce that Freedom Wars will launch in North America on Tuesday, October 28th, 2014 for $29.99.

For those looking for a head start in reducing your sentence within the world of Freedom Wars, our participating retailers are offering the same pre-order DLC as the original Japan release. These items include:

  1. Limited Edition Costume – Personalize your Freedom Wars character with Formal Wear
  2. Powerful Starter Weapons – Upgraded melee and long range attack weapon.
  3. Limited Edition Sticker Set – For in-game use
  4. Combat Pack Item – Medical Supply Set

Lastly, for those that want the same pre-order items for the digital version, simply purchase Freedom Wars between Tuesday, October 28th to Tuesday, November 11th. After that, the pre-order items will no longer be available.

    ^,Cant play with japanese owners? I have japanese version also, and well that sucks. I can do with JP SSD US SSD. Why not this too?

    Im not buying if no SSD decals, all I do is wait, and wait for information. just wait on Vita games…wait….wait..until last minute….wait. the fate of vita owners – wait for everything

      Finally! So glad to bring you the good news! :)

      The game will be sticking with JP audio with subtitles. We’re really proud of the Japanese voice cast (and I think it suits the game incredibly well), so I hope you enjoy their efforts as well!

    Dat $30 price tag…Love the cheaper price, but does that mean it’ll be slim on content?
    Also, been hearing mixed things from Japan. Have the developers made adjustments since the Japanese launch for the Western release, or will it more or less be the same build just in English?

      And trust me, tons of content – I’ve put in about 80 hours on the Japanese version and I feel like I’m just getting started!

      We’ll be incorporating both major updates from the Japanese release into our Day 1 release, so you’ll be getting the most balanced, up-to-date version.

      Hey Ryumoau – I can promise you that Freedom Wars is anything but generic!

      Do you play a lot of games where you start off as a sinner with a 1,000,000 jail sentence and have to fight your way to freedom by battling gigantic people-stealing creatures? (If so, let me play with you!)

    Can’t wait for this game, had it preorder pretty much the moment it went up on Amazon.

    Also, I’m glad there are still support out there for the PSVita because it’s by far one of my favorite handheld and certainly deserves more attention than Sony is giving it.

    So thank you Nick for promoting Freedom Wars.

    Will the NA copy include the patch for online multiplayer?

    And will NA and EU be able to play with each other?

    Glad that we finally get a date for this. I Have a quick question, Nick. Will there be a chance of us being able to buy some of the DLC later down the line in case we miss out on the chance of pre-ordering & the bonuses?

      There’s always a chance that the costumes will come later as well, but I’d strongly encourage you to preorder if you have the means!

    Is there anyone that would know though? I mean, not to sound rude or anything, but it’s getting ridiculous how much of an afterthought Europe is. Nothing’s ever as clear-cut as it is for North America, not to mention the lack of price parity between regions.

    So excited for this. Played the demo on the Japanese PSN and loved it. I’m picking up 2 copies since it’s down to $30. One digital and one physical and keep it sealed for the collection. :)

    @Nick I’ve got two questions; 1)Why was this game ignored by Sony during the E3 and Gamescon live streams and main conference? Crappy indies got more attention! 2) Will Freedom Wars have a bigger presence at PAX? One can’t expect a product to sell without promotion. That’s marketing 101! This applies to the Vita as well!

      1.) Ya know there’s always a ton of content to talk about at press conferences – between first party, third party, hardware and services, it’s really rare to get time on stage in the first place. I would have been honored to have had Freedom Wars included, but I was also really excited for all of the other games being shown. (Gotta love that stealth Silent Hills announcement!) We’re all one family over here, and I loved pretty much everything that was there. :)

      2.) Oh yes my friend – will you be at PAX? I’ve got something pretty special planned, so I hope you’ll be in attendance!

    Are there currently any plans to release a collector’s edition of the game internationally? There were quite a few extras that came with special editions in Asia territories.

      Hey Karsing – not at the moment, sorry! Different distribution channels make that kind of thing a lot easier in other parts of the world, and we just weren’t able to do it for Freedom Wars over here.

    Thanks for the answers Nick. I had a bit of a questions such a download size and the JP release’s negative reviews, but it seems as most of those have been answered already. I have officially got my hype back for this game, can’t wait to get my hands on it! :)

    Wow, that’s a lot sooner than the ‘December 31st’ that Amazon had up as a place-holder! And also awesome since that’s the day after my birthday. It’s awesome to see that it’s getting a retail release, there’s fewer of those going on these days for the Vita and my imported 64GB memory card thanks Sony for giving it a chance to not have to load another game onto it for a while longer. Much more of that and they’ll really need to bring a 64gb and a 128gb card out some day.

    Can’t wait to play it!

    Not sure whether to get it physical or digital..
    The idea of having a nice box, or having it on me at all times regardless of the cart inserted???

    Games with melee in conjunction with competent shooting controls always gets me riled up.

    The Freedom Wars post has already been buried under the newer posts. I’m fed up of North America being prioritised all the time. The fact we actually had to fight for a physical release for this game is just ridiculous – now, as ever, we can’t get any information about it. We don’t get spoken too or addressed, we just get copy/pasted blog posts from here (the EU post originally came with the NA pricing and the EU ones!), we have to pay way more for the same games, we’re always waiting on information or game releases and we apparently don’t get physical releases without fighting for them.

    I know this probably isn’t the place and I know you’re probably not the person to vent to Nick, but I feel like there’s nowhere for people like me to be heard about these kind of things. I just want it to be known that myself, and I’m sure many others, are very dissatisfied with these issues.

    Sorry for ranting. I’m looking forward to Freedom Wars all the same, I’d just like a little more enthusiasm in all regions instead of just North America all the time.

    Why was there a decision made to not dub the game? Its the main thing holding me back from getting this, and I can’t say I like the recent trend of not dubbing vita games.

    Wow. Waiting for this game was (and still is) a task. Glad we’ve finally got a release date to look out for. I’ll be picking this one up for sure. There some real care put into this. Tell that dev team and all involved thanks for working so hard to bring this game overseas. Hope it gets some real good exposure. It deserves it.

    I am really liking the graphics in this game. It really is showing what the vita can do and how high the graphics can go on it. I love the vita and I hope that game companies will still try to create games using the vita’s full potential. Now question, will there be a demo for this?

    Well, no demo means I probably won’t be getting it. After reading up on it, I’m not particularly keen on getting this based on good faith alone (Toukiden and Soul Sacrifice were both made after great times spent on their demos), and the fact that the demo wasn’t a priority is rather unsettling. This isn’t some cheap game, this is a first party Sony title that’s been in the works for years, supposedly. I’m glad it’s getting a physical release, but $30 goes a long way, especially for Vita stuff, and considering a demo can and apparently might someday exist, I don’t think it’s worth it to not release it beforehand.
