PS Plus: Preview September’s Free Game Lineup

There’s a little bit of déjà vu going on as our PlayStation Plus members will once again receive two games free the day they hit the PlayStation Store – Velocity 2X on PS4 and Joe Danger’s release on PS Vita. Of course, there are other great titles including Sportsfriends on PS4, PS All Stars Battle Royale and Hoard on PS3 and TxK on PS Vita.

On PS4, Plus members will be able to download Velocity 2X and Sportsfriends. Velocity 2X is the sequel to Velocity Ultra and features arcade shooting and puzzle platforming with a cool teleportation mechanic. Sportsfriends is the perfect title to complement your parties, as it features 4 mini-games – BaraBariBall, Hokra, Super Pole Riders and Johann Sebastian Joust– to bring out the competitive side in everyone.

For PlayStation 3 owners, you can nab PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, the game where you can get together with friends and pit PlayStation characters like Sly Cooper and Kratos against each other. And Hoard, an action-strategy title where you’ll play as a dragon attempting to get as much gold as possible.

PlayStation Vita owners can pick up Joe Danger for the first time on the platform and enjoy some good old fashioned stunt racing, as well as TxK, a remake of the classic arcade shooter Tempest.

All of these games will be free for Plus members starting September 2nd. If you want to see these titles in action, check out the video below.

  • This selection of games stinks, IMO, and the selection has been stinking for months. It’s been going down hill since PlayStation changed the IGC format.I haven’t been satisfied with any of these games since April. Just a bunch of indie shovelware.

  • looks like another god awful month for ps4. someone jokingly suggested ps1 classics for ps4 titles, but honestly, that would be a huge improvement. i’d take megaman x4 over just about anything ps+ has given in the last 10 months.

maybe november will finally see a decent offering (because we already know that october is just the driveclub demo)

  • @calecaco,

Borderlands was not months old when PS+ received it. Directly quoted form the PS+ blog announcement. “Borderlands 2, one of 2012’s most critically acclaimed titles. This was in December, when the game was over a year old.

Also noted the Killzone and the other games you mentioned for PS4 are now just 9 month on the market.

Yes I would like a few more retail titles for the PS3, and also the PS4. But let us not bend the information to make it seems as if we got release day AAA titles. The majority of them were at least 1 year old, many were 2+ at the time we received them.

  • For me the psn plus is just useful for online game.. I’m really not fan of indies.. :/ But well, I guess there is no choice for now (meaning at least a year)

  • Worst month of plus. x___x

  • Wow lots of complaints, ridiculous

Velocity 2x is enough for me this month, the rest are men but Iddon’t mind PSplus just delivers great value. AAnyone saying otherwise is either trolling or just plain impossible to satisfy

  • wow….just wow. Not ONE single game interests me in this entire list.

  • I will literally renew my 1 year membership just because of this awesome month! Joe Danger and Velocity 2x are two of my most anticipated games which are yet to be released this 2014. I am sure that everyone that was planning to buy Velocity 2x day one tucked away around $20 of PSN credit. Another game that deserves attention is Joe Danger. I have been waiting for this game for months now since I have read about it here https://blog.playstation.com/2014/04/01/joe-danger-on-ps-vita-2-full-games-3-new-characters/ . It is actually two games in one Joe Danger 1 and Joe Danger 2. Joe Danger 2 will have 3 new playable characters Tearaway’s Atoi and Iota and the third playable character is Sackboy himself!.

  • Garbage.

I’d rather get DLC then these indie updates.

  • Velocity 2X looks good!! And I already have PS All Stars Battle Royale!

So this month is pretty meh for me! But thanks is equally appreciated!!

  • excellent month,i´m very happy with my 4 games for vita :)

  • ………….MEH!……I guess 3 outta 6 isn’t that bad! If it weren’t for Velocity 2X, TxK, and Joe Danger this month would be a BUST!!!!!

Still kinda disappointing tho….was looking for Tales of Xillia, Splinter Cell Blacklist, RE6, Beyond 2 Souls, Battlefield 4 or FFXIII on PS3; and of course Awesomenauts, Rayman Legends, MGS V: Ground Zeroes, or Guacamelee STCE on PS4; and possibly Dustforce, Toukiden Age of Demons, Luftrausers, or OlliOlli on Vita! In due time I suppose…..

  • “+ Ryumoau on August 27th, 2014 at 9:02 am said:

cool story bro. cry louder, i can’t hear you.

  • Another underwhelming month in an ongoing series of underwhelming months. Velocity 2X looks “OK” but the rest is absolute crap. Plus used to be a great value before the PS4 launch made having it mandatory if you want to play online. Since then, it’s gone downhill big time.

No AAA titles for PS4, just an endless stream of indie titles. Admittedly some of them have been good, but not many. The AAA offerings for the PS3 lately have been absolute garbage, nothing but mediocre poorly reviewed unpopular junk, and Vita has been a mixed bag, with a couple of standouts over the past few months but for the most part just more unpopular poorly reviewed junk.

I mean, it’s not like there aren’t a ton of good AAA titles they could make available for PS3 and Vita, even if they only stuck to the Sony owned studios you’d get a few good months. Outside of that there’s a huge pile of highly rated but long in the tooth AAA titles that could be added instead of constantly rotating into the Sale lineup.

Anyway, some will think this month is supremely awesome, some will post the usual “It’s FREE” crap (Protip: Plus isn’t free), and others like myself will look at this post and wonder what happened.

  • Indie, Indie, Indie, Indie, Indie, Indie, Indie, horrible copy of Smash Bros. Bad month, Bad year for PS Plus.

  • More indies for ps4, two of three PS vita games look crap, and I already played the “AAA” game (if you consider PS all stars that) for ps3. Why did I ever doubt Sony and PS Plus -_-

  • @160
    Can’t handle other people’s opinion?
    Welcome to the internet, kid

  • What a terrible list.

This looks like something MS would put out.

Really not a fan of the new PS+ and I mosdef wont be reupping it.

  • Unbelievable that people are complaining!!! If we got nothing else but velocity 2x that would still be a great deal!!! It’s a brand new game and will prob be high 80’s or low 90’s on metacritic and it’s FREE!!!!!

  • I’m actually happy this month of Plus games isn’t that great because I won’t have time to play them with Destiny coming out. Though I am really happy we are getting Velocity 2X! The first one was fantastic!

  • Since I already have All Star Battle, the only game that looks interesting to me is SportsFriends. Not a great month for me.

  • @163*??
Why does it keep changing? :(

    @jwunorton
    Christ….

  • I had been a PS+ subscriber since the original month and I have to admit, this is one of the worst month I remember.

Very disappointing and weak PS4 offers..

  • annnd no Metal Gear Rising. It’s alright I’ll buy it tsomeimte Setpember anyways…it better NOT come out as a PS PLUS game October though…that would be annoying.

  • guys….seriosly?

  • Velocity 2X is cool. The rest is stuff I doubt I’ll waste space with. If you guys are running out of ideas for PS+ which seems to be the case lately, there are still plenty of PSOne and PS2 Classics many people would enjoy. Maybe throw Dark Souks or Disgaea 4 ((PS3)) in there. I’ve seen all the polls on what people want and the program misses the mark a lot.

  • No more PS Plus For me X_X :p

  • @bigimpactpooch

Dude, MGR $9 on Amazon, get it! I just got mine yesterday :P

  • STOP releasing **** indie games on ps4 !!!!!! we pay stupid money to upgrade our consoles and in return the old console gets 10x better free games . on top of that their not forced into buying ps plus just to get online !!!!!! fair enough the odd indie game here and there but please a bit variety !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Seriously… It’s almost been 12 months since ps4 released and still getting indie games.. If I knew these back then I would of deffo saved my money and.brought my ps4 in mid 2015!

  • Wow I’m in disbelief of how horrible this lineup is. This is the most disappointed I’ve been with Plus ever.

  • some time in*

  • not excited about any of these. I may have been excited about PASBR but I bought that ages ago. don’t care about multiplayer games and I’ve never played an indie game I really truly liked. when I decided to finally spend money to get a PS+ membership a couple of months ago I thought the instant game collection would end up being worth the money and then some, but so far it’s been almost a total bust.

  • Sometimes I wish Sony never made PS Plus. Because it has given birth to a new breed of entitled whiners.

“*Cries* They keep giving me indie games on the PS4”

So what? First off, just because a game is “indie” doesn’t make it crap. And secondly, the system isn’t even a full year old yet. So what makes you think you’re going to get full retail releases THIS soon?

“*Cries* I already have the game(s) they’re giving away, I’m SO disappointed”

Big Deal!! What makes you think EVERY time out they’re going to give you a game you don’t have? They have to think about the WHOLE Playstation Ecosystem when they make decisions, not just YOU. The world doesn’t revolve around one single person.

“*Cries* I want (insert game here) free, when are we getting it?”

Just because a game has been out awhile doesn’t mean it will ever be on Plus at all. You want a certain game free? Go cry and whine to the PUBLISHER of that game since THEY are the ones that decide which of THEIR games they give on the Plus program free.

I swear, some of you act like your $49.99 a month should give you the power to part the Red Sea.

  • I don’t know if people realize it, but ‘stopping the indy flood’ doesn’t make the AAA games come out any faster. I’d rather have a flood of indies and remasters than have no games at all.
This is one of the few updates that haven’t excited me. Still playing Dragon’s Crown though :D

  • Nothing really interests me this month. Oh well. Luckily I have a horrendous backlog that needs seeing to.

  • Congratulations Sony! Managed to make the worst lineups of games 2x in a row! Paid to have a good online service in the PS4, good support in the Vita and that’s what I get for months! More and more indies that make no success (except rare cases) and you push for subscribers! Congratulations once again! I just want to see if in October the only game that will pay will be the DriveClub! If he is going to be available in October!

  • The fact of getting free games doesn’t bother me I don’t like.indie games but charging people that much to play online without any benefits it a complete ripoff!

  • You people using the word “Indie” like it’s bad term honestly sound old and senile. PS Plus is more than the 6 games you get per month. It’s the continual discounts and multiplayer on PS4. If this month’s free games aren’t for you then don’t download them. No one is forcing you to like them. But asking Sony and some Publisher (ie: Activision) to make their 2014 PS4 title free on PS+ really shows your ignorance of how this all works. And it’s embarrasing.

Saying “I don’t like Indies” is like saying “I don’t like shooters.” No one cares. And people smarter than you will keep making them.

  • I’m surprised by the complaints that we only get indie games for PS4. Obviously it would be great to get AAA retail titles, but there aren’t that many out yet and the system isn’t even a year old yet. I’m sure by the end of this year or early 2015 we will start to get some of those AAA games on PS Plus. We can’t expect to get them free after only 6 months or so. At least a lot of the indie games we get are NEW, which is a pretty cool concept anyway.

I think it’s just going to take a little patience for those who want higher profile games. Give them time, play Destiny for a few months to keep you busy, and then you can get Knack or something on PS Plus if you really want it. :)

(hopefully they will be better games like Killzone though…)

  • @ + Pariah_Dark

i could taste the tears of these children. they taste so sweet.

  • Don’t want a single one apart from ps all stars you can take all that back to the bin!

  • Wow atleast xbox has ea access to fall back on, ps plus is so bad right now, not going to download anything from that line up

  • Ok. I’m not ecstatic about the lineup, but I’m not super disappointed. I have quite a backlog to go through anyways

  • I can’t understand all the hate for these games. 6 games, 3 of which are cross buy. 9 total games. It’s an incredible value. I am a very happy Playstation Plus subscriber.

  • @Pariah_Dark,

To be fair of the folks that ask for a specific game to be free, Morgan and others on the blogsquad have stated that they don’t mind seeing lists for games people would like to see on PS+. Doesn’t mean it will always happen, or possibly ever, but it gives them as idea of what would be popular and/or great.

  • I’m happy for Ps All Stars coming to PS+ but the main problem with Ps All Stars is the fact that the invite system in that game is all ingame. This feature is extremely outdated and anyone with a Vita, Ps Mobile App or Ps4 that decided to add more that 100 friends will most likely suffer. Because the issue Ps3 has with this is that Ps3 will only show 100 randoms friends off of your list of 100+. The invite system within Ps All Stars does the same thing where it’ll choose what ever list your Ps3 decided to choose. So if you have 200 friends and you want to start a private lobby in Ps All Stars with 3 of your friends. If Friend #1 is considered to be listed number 123 on your friends list, Friend #2 randomly listed 129, Friend #3 listed #69. The only friend you’ll be able to see on your freinds list on Ps3 is Friend number 3. This is the issue with the Ps3’s 100 and under friends list. TLOU on Ps3 suffers from this issue also is I so recall.

  • PS Plus IGC for PS4…. a big Meh..! Too much indie game, that’s what we get every month. Some indie game are good but that’s all we get on ps4.

  • Wow worst month in years for ps+, is ps+ going to gradually get worse every month because that’s what it looks like to me. Last year ps+ was amazing, your are making people hate indie sony.
