Preview October’s Free Game Lineup
Update: We know many of you were looking forward to playing the promised PS Plus Edition and we are truly sorry for the delay. Our first priority is to provide you with the best possible experience while playing DRIVECLUB. With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience. Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice.

For the past two months, PlayStation Plus members have received a couple games free the day they hit the PlayStation Store, and this time we’re besting ourselves by offering three! Yep, this month Dust: An Elysian Tail (PS4), Spelunky (PS4) and Pix the Cat (PS Vita) will debut on the Store as well as in PlayStation Plus. On top of that, there’s a special bonus this month – members get DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition (if you want to upgrade to the regular retail version you can for $49.99), which gives them access to 11 tracks, 10 cars and all the game modes. Finally, members will receive the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum as well as Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara and Rainbow Moon.

PS4 owners can check out the Metroidvania-inspired Dust: An Elysian Tail, as well as the hit platformer Spelunky — which also entitles you to the PS3 and PS Vita versions. On PS3, our members can see where the Arkham franchise started with Batman: Arkham Asylum, as well as enjoy a bundle of classic arcade Dungeons & Dragons games with Chronicles of Mystara. For your PS Vita, we’ve got a new addictive arcade game for you in the same vein as Snake and Pac-Man called Pix the Cat and a beautiful, epic strategy RPG Rainbow Moon.

All of these games will be free for Plus members starting October 7th. Watch the video below to see these titles in action.

  • Rainbow Moon and Spelunky! Going to channel my inner Goldfarb.

  • Driveclub FTW! really hoping this game turns out to be great :)

  • Yay! Nice uptick from recent months.

    Good Job Sony!

  • Rainbow Moon…nice. This is a really good month for PS+ members!

  • DRIVECLUB AND SPELUNKY! THANK YOU SONY! Rainbow Moon looks great for Vita too!

  • Weak. Arkham Asylum really? That game is so old and we got Arkham City earlier this year. This is some stuff Xbox Live would do smh

  • Nice update! I was concerned that the free version of Driveclub had been canned, due to only the paid version being advertised on the PSN store, but the confirmation of the free version and upgrade path is very reassuring. Plus continues to be amazing value.

  • Very disappointing yet again

  • Excellent list this month. I’ve been waiting for Dust, and now I don’t have to shell out for it! Also looking forwards to DriveClub. Well done folks!

  • Month looks amazing.

Batman, Rainbow moon, D&D, spelunky, AND dust.

Not sure about pix, or drive club, but thats 5 for 7 for me.

  • Gotta say. Worst month I’ve seen in a long time. Very disappointed.

  • I’ve been really disappointed with PS Plus lately =/

  • WENA CTM!!!!!! :D

  • @6 Arkham Asylum may be old but it is a really, REALLY good game. Arkham City’s better, but Asylum’s worth playing.

Now, my analysis of the lineup:

    Dust is cool

    if Spelunky’s cross-buy, I already own it..didn’t know it had a PS4 version

    DRIVECLUB: self-explanatory.

Arkham Asylum I got a couple years ago. Still own the disc.

Chronicles of Mystara: thought about buying this on a flash sale awhile back, didn’t do it, doesn’t matter now :D

    Pix could be interesting.

Rainbow moon: My ONLY issue with this game that could make it week is the plethora of microtransactions available on the Playstation Store. That could severely take away from the game.

Not as good as I was expecting from the delays for hte announcement, but I like it anyway :) 5 games for sure I’ll look at (maybe Spelunky too to see how the PS4 version improves on the other versions)

  • Another crappy month…

  • I hope you messed up and meant to put arkham origins..

  • better than last month :)

  • Is Pix the Cat also free with Plus for PS4?

  • Dust is a pretty cool 2D action adventure game, if you’ve not heard of it previously. I have it on PC but would MUCH rather play it using the dualshock 4 so I am very excited for that!

  • Noooo, where are the good games?

  • 4 Free Games for PS4 + 4 Free Games on PS3 + 3 Free Games on VITA. Sweet! Thanks Sony!

  • Finally, a good AAA ps4 title, and a nice indie (spelunky). That’s a good balance. Thanks Sony!

  • as usual, vita gets the crappy games

  • Really the 2009 Batman: Arkham Asylum. We got Arkham city last year.

But pretty lack luster list. Drive clubs nice but not a full game so I can’t count it as a real game. The rest are… Really not that exciting. Miss the days when we’d have game on the list forever made not have plus an easy thing. Now I feel a little bit robbed with every plus release window.

  • This is a good month, you guy are crazy. Thank god i didn’t buy Batman: AA before, i can now replay one of the best games of last gen, city wasn’t as good.

  • Being that Pix The Cat is cross-buy. Is it going to be available for PS4 also?

  • Amazing line up with the crossplay games, driveclub is as good as bought

  • Dud looks SICK. I can’t wait to play it & live stream it. October is shaping up to be a good month for gaming.

  • Do you really think PS4 owners want more indie games at this point? It’s difficult to get excited about the same kind of games, month after month, Kristine. Oh and 2009’s Arkham Asylum for PS3, AFTER the sequel has been on PS+? Brilliant.

How about something mainstream that actually shows off the PS4’s graphical horsepower? Nobody asked for the glorified demo of Driveclub. At this point, it just looks like Sony is being cheap even though they’re raking in hundreds of millions of dollars in PS+ subscription fees every year (estimated to grow to $1.7 billion/year by 2017).

  • not the worst ever, and definitely an improvement from last months – don’t care about arkham, as I’ve had it for years, but excited about D&D – I loved the arcade games when I was a kid! and an actual RPG for the vita?! **** yes! though, as far as PS4 is concerned, meh. I’ve already got Dust for Steam, and it’s okay, and spelunky… I don’t know what to think about that.

either way, still better than last month

  • so I am confused is this Driveclub thing the actual free game or just a glorified demo? the video wasn’t that clear

  • If im reading correctly we get 4 free games for ps4 this month .Im counting driveclub because it’s value will probably exceed that of the other three for me. Time to renew!

  • Like i don’t already have too many games to play! You guys are gonna run me ragged!

    Dust: An Elysian Tail
I have it, but didn’t play very far. Now i can play it on my PS4! Perfect.

    Spelunky
I wanted to try it, but wasn’t sure if i’d be any good at it. Now i can play it on my PS4, too. Woot.

    DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition
I don’t play racing game a lot, but sometimes i just like driving things around some places. TADA!

    Pix the Cat
I wanted this quite a bit, and now you’ve gifted it to me. It’s like my birthday, except it’s not my birthday.

    Rainbow Moon
    I will try this!

Thanks guys, for real. This is a nice pile of games to plop on top of my mountain of other games.

  • @#8 Nothing should be disappointing to someone with Dan as there profile picture.

  • I give this month a ‘Pretty Good’.

  • I have every game on this list already, except for pix . (well dust on pc)
Not really complaining, but very meh.
    I can try driveclub, though.

    Oh well, maybe next month.

  • Best month :D

  • If it wasnt for IGN a few monyhs back my plus would have expired and with consecutive months like this I see zero reason ehy I would keep it. Putting multiplayer behind a wall means nothing too me and these lackluster offerings are sad at best. I know these little indie titles are popular but i have yet to figure out why, and the “discounts” cod ghosts for $62.99…… Cmon already. Needless to say unless there is a massive improvement in the titles offered or unless the discounts begin to even meet the price of physical games, when my plus does expire I wont be renewing it anytime soon.

The quality of offerings has done nothing but suffer since the ps4 launch and with the first year almost behind us for the new system I had really expected spme of the core launch titles to at least be the same price if not cheaper on the store and here we sit with psn still asking for $40 for killzone and $60 for titles like infamous and tomb raider. It had to get better.

  • Another boring month for playstation plus.

  • Only driveclub for all the other games is really really really bad, ( Batman asylum already have it ) I don’t know why last 4 months like that :-( 1 game AAA for ps3 and 5 games indie

  • rainbow moon is real good. i have already put 30 hours into it. About dlc packs, I strongly recommend small starter pack, which last time I checked was free. In game coin was real short in earlier part of the game. Maybe that is why they made that small pack free.

Better than last month igc I guess.

  • Once again, Sony proves that they are not ever going to listen to their customers, especially PS Vita owners, and they prove once more that the IGC needs to be renamed.

    Indie Garbage Collection.

Sony, look online. Look ANYWHERE. Search for ‘Sony indie’, and see how much you are alienating your customer base.

Only the Android platform is more glutted with shovelware and indie crap.

That said, I already own Arkham Asylum, and I won’t be picking up a PS4 until Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV come out, so all there is for me this month is Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. I am not even going to download Spelunky or Pix.

Rainbow Moon and Dust actually don’t look too awful, for indie titles. Doesn’t mean that I want indie games in the IGC, though, when you have the almost the entire PSOne, PS2 and PSP libraries to offer. I’d rather have a 15-year-old PSOne game than yet another indie title.

  • Nice, ill look into these games, thank you

  • Thank you Playstation for this awesome service! Christmas every month! Solid offering. Looking forward to Drive Club (looks gorgeous) and replaying Batman.

Also, I’m always saddened when I go into a Best Buy or Target and there’s no Vitas. Are they no longer shipping. I have one and love it, but I feel there are others that are missing out :(. Absolutely worth every penny. Love remote play and cross buy. Get the Vita into retailers!!!!

  • worst month for me.

i bought dungeons and dragons last month. it was ok for 2 hours.
arkum asylum i actually bought/played last month too. bought it at gamestop for $6.00 and even at that price I thought it was meh.

the other games are extremely weak.

at least we got velocity 2x and joe danger vita last month.

  • How very underwhelming.

WHO HASN’T played Batman: Arkham Asylum yet? A bunch of throw away titles this month for the most part. I’ll be enjoying DriveClub though, so there’s that…

  • Aaaaaaaaaand here come the whiners, yet again.

You could get a whole month of brand new retail games and STILL complain.

    Ugh.

  • Like everything but Batman since I already own it :) Rainbow Moon will probably be my most played game on this list =D

  • Dang it! I bought Spelunky last month to play it on my new Vita! I knew this would happen when the PS4 version launched, but couldn’t contain myself….

  • Very very very disappointing line up batman Arkhangelsk asylum are you serious how old is that game again???? I feel like the only game that I will download would be drive club and spelunky I already have dust on 360. Was really hoping for resident evil 6 and another type of scary game for PS3 since Octiber is the month of Halloween.

    Worst birthday present ever
