PlayStation Now Open Beta Launches Today on PS Vita, PS TV

Starting today, the PlayStation Now Open Beta will be available on both the PS Vita and PlayStation TV systems in much of the mainland U.S. and Canada, in addition to already being available on PS4 and PS3*.

PS Now on PS Vita

Our vision for PS Now is to make it possible for more people than ever to have quick and easy access to PS3 games, making it as easy to stream these games as it is to stream TV, movies, and music.

PS Vita is an important part of that vision, as you’ll be able to rent a game on one device, like PS4, then continue playing on your PS Vita or vice versa. That’s possible because of our cloud technology, which lets you play select PS3 games from our library of over 150 PS Now titles including God of War: Ascension on both a home console and a handheld device without the need for game downloads, installs, or patches.

PS Now makes the value of PS TV even better. The system, which launches today and starts as low as $99.99 MSRP, also provides one of the most affordable ways to get access to our library of PS3 games available on PS Now.

In order to get access to the PS Now Open Beta, you’ll need to download the PS Now app from PlayStation Store.

We’ll continue to collect feedback from PS Vita and PS TV users – keep it coming, and we hope you enjoy!

*Service not available in all areas. A steady broadband connection greater than 5Mbps is highly recommended. See us.playstation.com/playstationnow for details.

  • I know it’s in beta and I know you guys are looking for feedback so let me inform you because I want to see you guys do well. First off, remember how I said Netflix? Yeah, you need to do that. I can guarantee you’d have a lot more waives of customers preaching gods good blessing on Sony. If you’re bothered by the prices of Netflix, you don’t have to do that exact pricing. Why not do it by tiers in terms of monthly payments? Depending on how much they pay monthly they’ll have more of a library to access and the ability of being able to play more recent games. Make it attractive pricing.

Let’s look at Netflix for example. There are barely people who can finish an entire series in the span of less than a month. Dexter is a fairly large show and it took me about 5 months to plow through it, I was watching other shows at the same time. Hardcore users might be able to finish it within the span of a month or two. Some people just have Netflix for the sake of convenience. That they could barely use it at all but still pay for it because it’s still nice to have. Playstation Now has the possibility and opportunity to accomplish such a feat.

  • Here I’ll even give you an example (if you feel like paying me for my ideas please be obliged because I’m a whack job who works at a lousy dead end job). Tier 1 customers pay $10 month getting older and/or indie games. Tier 2 would get all the below and some newer games. Tier 3 would get the most recent games (and heck, throw some DLC in there). If you feel like some people might abuse the amount of games they play set an amount of games they can have playable at a time during the month (like gamefly). Keeping the game saved on cloud is a good idea though so keep that. If you want to pay devs for their games and stuff base it off their traffic of downloads or something. You want to take the extra mile? Combine benefits with Playstation plus and Playstation Now.

That’s all I really gotta say in terms of feedback. I love my vita and with what I stated above the Playstation vita could go down in history as one of the greatest portable consoles to have ever existed. The games play solid but the service has to change.

  • If you won’t do that than at least port the ps3 games to the playstation market and think about some sort of dual shock adapter for the psvita so the controls don’t feel so awkward. I mean like at like a trigger button handle to the back and have it connect somehow, anything really.

Skyrim, and the souls series. You must do this and you know it.

  • Oh and also, just let us download the full games. The whole streaming thing isn’t great because we have to always be connected to the internet. Kind of a pain, unless that’s your way of promoting the ATT wireless 4g stuff…. Just sayin…

  • When I try to download it on my Vita, it gets to 37MB and then quits. I’ve tried quite a few times across several days but it still doesn’t work. Anyone else have this problem?

  • The PlayStation TV is cool but it would be better if you could buy to own your online games instead of renting just saying Sony would make way more money on the PlayStation TV because I don’t want to keep paying money every 4 hours or 7 days to play a game. I want to buy PlayStation TV next week but if I’m unavailable to keep the game I want than I don’t see the point of buying a PlayStation TV. Please reply

  • I would rather pay 15$ to own a game rather than rent it I think you should consider that a option to the people who don’t want to rent a game or for a new game I would pay full price for. Please reply

  • WHY IS SONY CHARGING US RENTAL FEES ON A BETA??? It would be nice to try this without paying to make sure it works properly on the Vita. We are not going to trust Sony’s connection test

  • PS Vita is the only system I own.. Weekend nights are the only time i have to play and there aren’t many titles for the Vita.. So when ifound out about this, i almost had a glorious shout of excitement.. Until i saw all the rental options.. I REALLY hope there will be a coming option to purchase a streaming game and/or a fair subscription.. If this happens there will be many like me where this will appeal.

  • What will the final product be like I notice it’s currently for renting since it’s Beta…but will you buy the games themselves from the system of your choice, or will be like a subscription base, you pay a monthly fee but get to play all the games on the network?
