Tinertia is Rocket Jumping to PS4

Hello, PlayStation nation! My name is Vilas and I’m the lead programmer at Candescent Games. Together with Section Studios, we’re thrilled to announce that Tinertia is headed to PS4. Tinertia is a hardcore platformer without a jump button. “What? No jump button,” you ask? Well, instead of a plain old jump button, we give you a rocket launcher with infinite ammo! If you like rocket jumping and physics, you’re in for a treat!

Tinertia on PS4

Our goal with Tinertia is to create a truly new platforming experience. The platformer is the grandaddy of game genres, so to create something unique we tackled its core mechanic; the jump button. If you’re like us, you have at some point rocket jumped around Quake, Unreal, or Team Fortress. It’s a fun and exhilarating experience due to its imprecision and randomness through physics. However, when mastered, it becomes a fast and precise way to traverse a map. With rocket jumping as the basis for movement, we created a twin stick platformer. You use the left stick to walk and the right stick to shoot in any direction.

Tinertia’s design pillars are depth and mastery. The game worlds are crafted to be challenging, yet they have lots of room for competition through speed and clever use of rockets. As you play through the game you’ll learn to connect your rocket jumps and leverage momentum to go faster. Your speed is only limited by your mad skillz! Expect intense moments and sweaty controllers as you fly through the environments and take on giant robot bosses.

Tinertia is a 2.5D platformer. The levels in each world are physically connected to one another and wrap around like mazes. To realize the art of Tinertia we’ve partnered with Section Studios. Section leads the art direction and executes the visual aesthetic of the world. Together we’re working hard to wrap up development and bring the game to PlayStation.

In the meantime, there’s no better way to experience Tinertia than to pick up a controller and shoot rockets. Tinertia will be playable at PlayStation Experience this December. Drop by our booth and say hi.

We plan to launch Tinertia on PlayStation Store for PS4 in the second half of 2015. Feel free to ask questions in the comments section below.

  • Alright, I could dig that. Speculated price? PS+ game maybe?

  • Any plans for Vita?

  • Looks like a title I would want on it, and Vita needs it.

  • I’m aware that this game is far off but when can we start seeing some gameplay?! Looks interesting and would like to see it in action.

  • Looks awesome

  • My daughter and I played this at PAX Prime this year. Managed to get through the first set of levels (got a t-shirt for her and I) and then start on the next set. This game starts of easy, but gets challeging fast. The nice thing is it never felt frustratingly difficult, instead it kept me wanting to play and pass the level. This was easily in my top 10 at PAX. I know I only scratched the surface, but kudos on such great level designs and gameplay controls that are simple yet challenging. Hopefully the price point is right and my daughter and I can finish what we started.

Try looking it up on Youtube.
I liked the one by Giant Bomb.

  • I just dont get why anyone would want imprecise controlls. Oh well. With the forty thousand indy games coming to ps4 at least ill have options.

  • Hey Vilas,

    Your game looks really cool!

I wanted to ask if you guys would consider on making “Dynamic Themes” and “Avatar Pictures” for the PS4. Your game would look cool displayed on everyone’s PS4.

    Cheers!!!

P.S. Please keep posting info on the PS Blog as your game gets closer to launch, thanks.

    • Will do. We hadn’t thought about themes yet but it’s an awesome idea. I’d love to have a Tinertia theme on my PS4. Will look in to it.

  • Platformers are fun yet difficult as well but I will check this out for sure when I drops.

  • That little robot guy looks fun, going to keep an eye on further announcements.

  • Looks like a fun game. You have officially made me curious. And thank you so much for not going 8-bit retro on us :) Nothing against them, just love seeing other indies get made too.
