Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Collector’s Edition Revealed

Good evening, PlayStation.Blog! It’s a little later than we usually post, but we wanted to bring you this bit of news as soon as it broke. Today, er, tonight, we’re happy to announce that Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is getting its very own Collector’s Edition. Available in limited quantities, you can lock in your order on this premium collection of cool stuff now, for $99.99. Ah, but what’s in it, you ask? Well, in industry circles, we call the image below a “beauty shot,” and with good reason! Look upon its majesty.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD

Let’s discuss what you’re seeing, shall we? We’ll start with the golden Steel Book case, featuring what I personally think is one of long-time Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano’s finest pieces — the goddesses of Orience. On the inside is the Japanese kanji for the game title: 零, or “Rei,” meaning “zero,” and 式, or “shiki,” meaning “type.” We know you guys appreciate authenticity.

The Steel Book holds both the game disc and a 15-track collection of songs hand-picked by the game’s composer, Takeharu Ishimoto. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, he also did the score for Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-, among others. He’s one of my favorite composers in the business right now, and Type-0’s soundtrack is stellar.

Let’s move over to the books. A 200 page manga that takes place alongside that super emotional opening of Type-0, giving you deeper insight into the characters, and next to that, an 80 page art book, featuring the art of some of our most talented artists who worked on this title. The foreword is even written by the game’s director, Hajime Tabata.

Last but not least, five life-size replicas of the iconic cards you’ve seen Ace holding in all our promotional materials. The fronts feature illustrations of the Type-0 Eidolons: Odin, Ifrit, Shiva, Diabolos, and naturally, Bahamut.

If all this stuff wasn’t enough, we’ve even got some neat incentives for you to pre-order this from us at Square Enix — you’ll automatically be entered into a sweepstakes where you could win a Final Fantasy Type-0 custom PS4, an art canvas of Ace, a Vermilion Bird lapel pin that retails for $200… and a whole bunch of runner up prizes, too.

And finally — getting the Collector’s Edition will guarantee your access to the Final Fantasy XV -Episode Duscae- demo. We’ve gotten a lot of questions about this demo, so while I’m here, I’ll drop some knowledge on that too.

First, as Tabata-san said in a recent episode of Square Enix Presents, this demo is exclusive to Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. We’re never going to release it as a stand-alone piece down the line. Secondly, it’s intended to be a special gift for those of you who purchase early — the demo will be limited to the “Day One” edition of the game, meaning that only the first shipment is going to have the demo in it. So if the demo is something you think you might like, we highly encourage you to pre-order or to be quick about getting to the store on launch day, March 17th, 2015.

I’ll close with one more announcement — On January 23rd at 10:00AM Pacific, Tabata-san himself is going to be doing a Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Reddit AMA.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD

You guys here on PlayStation.Blog have had a lot of great questions that only someone from our development staff would be able to answer, so I definitely want to invite you guys to participate! That said — considering you won’t have gotten a chance to play the Final Fantasy XV demo at that point, we’ll only be taking questions relating to Type-0 HD. But don’t fret! The Final Fantasy XV demo is just the beginning, and we’re looking forward to talking to you more about that when the time comes.

  • Around $150 after shipping? Ouch…. You really should make this available at retailers…. I mean that’s three times as much as the standard edition, if it were at best buy I could get the collectors edition for $80 w/ free shipping. So….. this isn’t a very good deal.

  • TAKE MY MONEY!!~ (ノ>_<)ノ$$$$$$

  • Is this game getting a digital version on the PlayStation store? If it is will the digital version come with the FF XV demo?

  • Yea, hopefully the demo is available the same week that Type-0 HD comes out, I dont want us waiting all spring and summer for an announcement that the demo is launching late 2015… heres hoping it comes the exact same day and that luminous 1.5 looks amazing on an HD tv haha,

  • also, any idea about what the console specific exclusive stuff will be for the ps4 editions of ff7 and ffX/X2 HD ? my guess is for ff7 a graphic tune up people were not expecting because of the fans complaining about the announcement, and the extra boosters and stuff perhaps from the steam version, and identicals on ff10

  • Does it include Vita version of game?

No? What a shame… than forget about me buying ever this game.

This is Vita level graphic game… it belongs to Vita. You are trying to sell it as PS4 game only because PS4 isn’t selling well in Japan and you messed up with FF XV which is far from being ready. We don’t care about it! We are not your pawns which will dance like you want.

  • No Best Buy…. NO BUY!!!

I’ll have to settle for the regular edition. :(

Will the manga be released separately?

  • Hey guys Gamestop has them available. 10$ more but I trust their shipping tenfold.

    http://www.gamestop.com/ps4/games/final-fantasy-type-0-hd-collectors-edition/119273

They have xbox ones too :)

  • I remember when a demo was there for ANYONE to try a game before they buy! I have not been happy with the last few Final Fantasy games, so if I want to try FFXV I have to BUY a game? That is just outrageous! I am sick of companies who want to nickle and dime everything they can from their so call customer base! I will not buy Type-O just to get a demo!

  • Thats a nice collectors edition but after still not recieving an update with what happened with the Kingdom Hearts 2.5 collectors edition I bought from the square enix store you can forget me picking this up unless it offered by other retailers.

  • Its on Gamestop guys :)

  • @111, That’s cool, but gonna keep my preorder. My experiences with their store since they switched away from Digital River or whatever have been good. My experiences with GameStop lately? Not so much. But it is nice to know for those who want the option.

  • @112 Yeah just trying to help those who wanted to purchase through a different store :)

  • Thanks Selene, I had given up hope till I saw your comment :)

  • Any word on a digital release at all?

  • @114 You’re welcome! Glad I could help :D

  • Hey Scott, I was looking forward to this CE announcment, but after Square decides that a PC port of FFVII is good enough for it’s fans wanting a HD Remake by announcing their Death Wail at the Ps Experience, I’m Deciding to NOT throw money at a Dead Company. R.I.P. Square Enix 12/6/14
Ps – The Ps Blog Team agrees Scott, why wouldn’t They mention it in Their coverage of the Ps Experience coverage if it wasn’t worth mentioning, let alone even worth doing.

  • First, Scott, the CE is beautiful. I’m getting it just because of that. I’ve never played the game, don’t usually like turn-based old school stuff, but it’s too beautiful to pass up.

I’ve ordered 2 CEs from the SE store this year: Lightning Returns and Kingdom Hearts 2.5. Both came in perfect condition so I’m sorry for those who had a different result but my experiences are all good.

However, thanks to user Selene, I ordered from Gamestop online. I recently ordered Dragon Age: Inquisition CE from GS, and it came very, very damaged. I had to return the product twice for broken pieces. Nonetheless, easier to take back to my local store than return by mail.

I hope the Gamestop page doesn’t turn out to be a mistake since Scott is so certain it’s only from the SE store.

  • @118 I hope its not a mistake O_o I already ordered…

If it is then I’ll have no way of getting it :(

  • If a tree falls in Playstation’s forest and Ryan doesn’t write about it, does anybody care?

  • Some news about FF XIV trial for the PS4? Im dying of waiting for this!!

  • Does it come with a Vita version?

  • I don’t own a PS4/Xbone, so I won’t be buying this, anytime soon. Just wanted to way in, on this one being sold at GameStop. Please, continue to do this, with future releases! I probably would have bought Kingdom Hearts 2.5’s Collector’s Edition, had it been sold there, or at another retailer.

Not everyone has(or wants, for that matter) a credit card.. If you sold gift cards, for your online store, in stores, it’d be a different story. But having a retailer like Amazon, GameStop, Walmart, etc. carry it, works just as good.

  • Dear Square Enix, would be so kind enough to put this on GameStop and or Amazon as well please? I hope you guys listen to us the Fans.

  • @124 Its on Gamestop :) I ordered this morning.

  • Hello I have a question, is the collector’s edition only available online to pre order? I am interested in purchasing the CE but can I buy it in stores or online only? Sorry I’m confused please reply. Thank you

  • @126 I think it’s online only. Even Gamestop’s says Online only. So that’s what I’m guessing. ^^

  • Is anyone else having problems with the store? It’s taking ages for my payment to process. :/

  • So, first the demo was to be released with all copies of Type-0 HD, then it’s changed to “only available for a limited time” and now it’s only avalable for first prints. What’s wrong, were pre-orders low? Getting to much backlash on the $60/$70 price tag on a 3 year old PSP port, so you had to make sure people purchased day one by limiting the demo to first run of the game? And we still have no idea when the demo will be released. It could be months later!

I hate how Square Enix is treating its fans. Type-0 HD should have been $39.99, especially since it only has a single game, unlike other remasters. And that excuse of wanting the demo to feel “special” and that’s why it’s limited, is just nonsense. We know why it’s limited to first run and that’s to boost day one sales at full price.

Fans have been waiting almost 10 years for XV/Versus. The demo should be included with every copy of Type-0 HD (like it was announced) and on disc, as a thank you for all our patience. And it should be priced at $39.99 like every other remaster.

  • Bring it to the Vita and we have a deal. Until then, I’ll have to pass. There’s no reason why you guys can’t put this on a handheld since it was on a handheld to begin with.

  • Well, since Gamestop in the US is now stocking this, I’ll be keeping an eye on EB Games here in Canada to see if they get it as well.

I’ll order from them for sure.

  • Vita…. Vita… Vita

Sony, do what you did for Resident evil, and use Third party team to release FFtype0 and both Kingdom heart compilations to the west…

All are on par technically to FFX remakes….If their editors are stupid enough to deny Vita’s player, get a chance and the reward will come for sure.
Vita player would be surely grateful

  • Leaving the extras aside, there’s no way I’m paying $100 (or even $60) for a $20 PSP HD port and what should simply be free demo released on the PSN store.

It’s such a pity see what once was a great developer like SE reduced to resort to such vile and cheap money grab tactics.

  • I don’t understand why they can’t make the demo available to everyone. I don’t like Type-O and I don’t want to buy it, but I want to play the demo of the game that we have all been waiting almost a decade to play. Put the demo of the store for purchase, I will pay you people actual real life currency for the demo. No need to try to boost sales of a game by making it the only way to play the demo of the only game most of us actually want. The only reason Type-O got remastered for the 4 is because SE saw the fan translated version was almost finished and wanted to make sure they got any potential profit from the handful of people who want to play it. The petition for this lame game wasn’t even very successful, they know the only way to get it to sell to more people than signed the petition is to pair it with the only thing people actually want.

All you guys are really known for now is a terrible trilogy forced down your fans throats and lame freemium smartphone games.

  • Buyers beware: Pepita store charges your card for the pre-order immediately, not when the item is shipped.
Next thing: THIS demo is exclusive. There will still be a demo available for all.

  • Put this on the vita. And as a physical copy, not a download. I can’t afford to give away anymore arms and legs for a memory card.

  • Hopefully it’ll be worth the wait… I do not want another FF XIII again…

  • I FINALLY AFTER CHANGING MY ROUTER SETTINGS FROM WPA TO WEP GOT MY PSP ONLINE TO DOWLOAD SUIKODEN 2 DIRECT TO MY PSP I WAITED 7 YEARS FOR THIS GAME TO COME ONTO PSN IT SAID NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MY SYSTEM (PSP) THANK YOU SONY AND KONAMI GOOD JOB I WAS GOING TO BUY A PS4 AND 3 GAME BUNDLE FOR CHIRSTMAS NOW I AM NOT I AM BOYCOTTING SONY FOREVER I WILL SPEND WHATS LEFT IN PSN ACCOUNT AND THATS IT I QUIT I CONTACTED SONY FOR HELP ON HERE REPEATEDLY THE GAME CLEARLY STATED AVAILBLE FOR PSVITA PS3 AND PSP IVE HAD ENOUGH IM NEVER POSTING HERE AGAIN IM 41 AND BEEN A SONY PLAYSTATION ADDICT SINCE I THINK 1996 RESIDENT EVIL RELEASE PS1 THANK YOU SONY GOOD JOB GOODBYE YOU MAKE ME SICK.

  • I can order a large, heavy KitchenAid mixer from Amazon and pay $0 shipping, but a videogame is $35? Screw that, Square.

  • We need it for VITA!!

  • I wonder if they even read this. I always feel so ignored by the people in charge with Sony…..

  • ordered from the square enix store the other day! cannot wait! everyone is hating, i paid 7 dollars in shipping, and they say every order before march will be for the launch day. in other words, they are shipping it on March 03rd, 2015 so that people can get it on March 17th, if you order past the cutoff date, you will likely get it the few days after March 17th.

cannot wait to play the demo with all events, conversations, action, cutscenes, and english dubbed voiceovers, the graphics engine will be tuned up slightly to a level past the TGS trailer / gameplay, and they will optimize it more so that it can look its best on PS4, its gonna be amazing.

  • I pre-ordered this collectors edition yesterday and the money is still in my account and isn’t even pending. Does it not take the money out right away or at least pend it?

  • no vita no buy

  • @138 I just went and checked PSN and it pretty clearly says PS3 and PS Vita, with no mention of PSP.

  • That’s still dumb that it’s not supported on PSP when every other PS1 classic used to be. I thought Sony said they’d support their systems for 10+ years? It hasn’t been 10 years since PSP came out in the West.

As for this Collector’s Edition, the price is a joke for what you get.

  • How can I pre-order this limited edition? I clicked link it turns out a 59.99$ edition amazon link.

  • @147 I don’t think its available yet on Amazon or if it will be at all. However, its available on Gamestop.com

Other than that the only way you can get it is from the square enix store.

  • Question for those who pre-ordered it……..did you get any sort of confirmation email when you were done?

  • @149 I did from Gamestop. Idk about SE store though.
