As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.

The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible.
From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible.
If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

Yeh PSN this is in NO WAY ur fault you didn’t see it coming and it surprised you and there wasn’t much more you could do but sit there and try ur damnedest to get the site fixed and you keep making good games and more Playstations you guys are THE BEST I LOVE YOUR COMPANY

I think we all know that the forked tongued lizards are to blame here and I am sure that Sony ppl didn’t want to spend the holiday getting yelled at and working their tails off. I just wish they would give more updates that contained more information! I don’t think ppl would be as frustrated if they knew more about when their area may be up and running. We are all ( well mostly) understanding here and understand the situation but I for one wish I knew if I should keep trying to log in every hour or just hang it up till tomorrow. Just tired of the spinning wheel of death then an error code! Can’t wait to play COD AW online cause the offline graffics are AMAZING!!!!
You don’t like the service then leave! A 3 to 4 day outage is a bit much, but we don’t know what is going on on the back end. For MS being up thats good. I am a die hard playstation gamer. I have both PS4 and Xbox and prefer the PS4. Only reason for Xbox is to be able to play with friends. I have one friend on PSN so if you want to play online look me up and lets start gaming when the service get back up. For the people that want refunds? Get over yourself. Do you get a refund when the power goes out? That’s a service. Anyway when the service gets back online just go gaming, that i why we are here. Game on everyone!!

Sony wasn’t broken into, they were attacked. There’s a huge difference. Hackers can easily attack any network. There’s a lot of bad software out there that makes a DDoS attack easy. They just ping servers so many times it knocks them out. You can’t stop that from happening unless you just block all IP addresses. Then nobody would get on. If hackers broke into Sony’s network and stole personal data nobody would even notice. That wouldn’t knock their network out.

Wow! All the people that want a years worth of PS+ or a months worth of PS+ because of a few days of outage…talk about the “entitlement generation”! Just wait until you miss a few car payments, lol! Yeah, you will be wishing for a years worth of free car payments. Unfortunately, that’s not how the world works. This is your little world of video games, I guess. Do most folks think that Sony is just enjoying everybody’s offline gaming time? Of course, not. I’m sure they are trying their hardest to make sure the servers are back up and running 100% Until then, maybe we should try to connect with our families, or our God.

To the people defending Sony:Like it or not Sony dropped the ball on this one, the reason MS is already working is because they actually have measures in place for when this sort of things happen, Sony doesn’t. And lets remember they where warned by the same people that have been attacking them before that it will happen, they even told them when, and Sony did nothing to even try and prevent it. Stop telling the people that want to leave Sony for MS to go and leave, it’s not their fault Sony is never ready for this, so they have the right to leave, but we shouldn’t just kick them out because we don’t like what they said.
To the people asking or demanding compensation:GET OVER IT, unless you bought your PS4 in the last 4 days, or PS+ on the same time, you can’t ask for anything since for the most time you’ve enjoyed the service. Yes we’re not getting what we paid for, but we know Sony can’t deal with situations like this anyway.

^so have i! but im glad it was down cuz it made me wait to play GTAo its just as horrible now as it was on last gen sure it doesnt glitch out as much but i was at a special box drop by myself did all the work and then all of a sudden i had like 5 other players pop in out of nowhere i call BS on that… i dont like being cheated out of stuff especially when i do all the work just to have noobz steal my crap last minute… so 2mro i will be goin back to gamestop to trade this retarded game for either something else or put it down on a preorder…
i still cannot connect, but ah, **** it. i hope the **** squad does not strike again tomorrow because ive wanted a ps4 since they announced GTA V for ps4 at E3 2014. i even bought gta the day it came out a month before i even had the console and now i have got one for christmas but cannot play online. i just hope the reason that it took sony so long to fix it was that they beefed up security. well im going to bed. i HOPE to see all of us on psn tomorrow.

R@157 my fiancee bought PS+ 2 hours before it went down…. 4 days not being able to use is absurd. If online was free on ps4 then I wouldn’t be so mad. But since we gotta pay, we demand servers to be more quantity than quality….

Been a plus member from the very start of plus. Got my ps4 at launch and been very happy with it up until this point. Not going to sit here and demand a free year like others that is just absurd BUT there really should be some sort of compensation for people as not only was psn down for the holiday but for many that already had a ps4 psn was down for a total of 4 days, with little to almost no updates on here, yes there is twitter but the updates on there were also little to none and not everyone is on twitter. Paying for a service should alone entitle better updates then what was presented

My 2 cents. Playstation plus this year had be mediocre at best. I have been a plus subscriber since the beginning and really enjoyed what they offered until the ps4 came out. I have a ps3, ps4, and vita (which is collecting dust with the lack of support from sony). Also my ps+ doesn’t run out till 2017. We were promised drive club, then it changed to plus edition of drive club to not even getting it. A majority of indie games we are getting on the ps4 are lackluster. The sales this year are bogus. The one retail/digital game I bought on sale injustice for $8 went free 2 months later. I feel like I’ve been shafted. I know psn being down is not there fault but I feel it was the icing on the cake. I think psn should offer us something for this crap year.
I understand that this was something out of your hands cause by a group of hackers, however we see that whenever they said this will happen, it happens… are you guys making any prevention to avoid future attacks from their part(besides the legal way) like upgrading infrastructure?
Just got the ps4 and have not been able to login yet… this is for a couple days now. I keep poling to see when it would come back online which I know is not helping their network… they should really try to give more status and set expectations so I know when to try again.
So apparently PSN is up but I STILL cant log on to PSN on my ps4. Good job sony.

Not trying to start anything but is there a map of black out areas out there? got a buddy of mine that is up and running yet i cant get on. according to what ive been reading systems are back online, so im assuming that there is just a giant surge or its not active in my area yet.

This is completely ridiculous. I understand that you’re having technical difficulties and are unable to provide the service we’re paying for, but how dare you claim that PSN is “Online” when many of us still can’t login, phone support is close, live chat is disabled, and it’s taken me 24 hours just to login here to leave a comment because the login page was crashing. Leaving Twitter as the only option to contact support (and then not responding) and claiming to be online when you aren’t is horrible customer service. Please just let everyone know that you’re Offline (or Online with Limited Connectivity or something) until you actually have the problem fixed rather than getting our hopes up.

Okay. so I know PSN is back up but I got PS4 on christmas and I still cannot sign into PSN on my PS4, Still says, ”This server has been terminated” or ” This server cannot connect within the time limit”

from my assumption of everything i’ve read, the hack overloaded the systems so i figure that in certain areas its not possible to connect. so the fact that its is “online” isn’t false its just that they have yet to unclog the tunnels in which we use.
