Happy Holidays from Axiom Verge

Happy Holidays from Axiom Verge

It’s been the most amazing year of my life. In January 2014, Axiom Verge was a hobby project I’d been working on nights and weekends for almost four years. By April it was picked up by the PlayStation Pub Fund, then in June it won best of E3 awards, and in September Nintendo’s former indie boss came on to personally make sure it would be a success.

Honestly that’s quite a lot for a single person to process, so, I’ll just begin by saying THANK YOU everyone!

Happy Holidays from Axiom Verge 2014

Not wanting to limit my holiday card to any particular faith or culture, I decided to go with the “Looming Biomechanoid Construct” theme over Santa hats or tree ornaments. She knows when you are sleeping, awake, or trying to escape, so be good, for goodness sake!

  • When is this coming out? I want it on my Vita NOWWWWWW!

  • I’m really looking forward to this. Thanks for making it.

  • If what we’ve seen (and heard, man that music) of your game is any indication you deserve every accolade and bit of support you’ve received. Enjoy finishing AV and take your time, don’t rush it. I for one can’t wait to get my hands on it. :)

  • This game looks awesome. Release it now!! :D

  • “in September Nintendo’s former indie boss came on to personally make sure it would be a success.”

Wow! Congrats to you and I hope your game is a success.

  • I had the pleasure of playing the demo at my local GameStop and i absolutely loved it.

Really looking forward to playing this on my Vita.

  • VITA NOW!
    I WANT IT!

  • I need this game now

  • Looking forward to this one, looks awesome and it’s incredible to think this was done by one man. I really hope it becomes a success, it’s looking awesome so far.

  • Is there a release date for this yet? I think the last post mentioned early 2015.

I can’t wait! It looks amazing!

  • This game is gonna blow up when it comes out. Can’t wait to play it on Vita.

  • I’ll be honest, I don’t buy a lot of indi-games, however, I am all over this game! I saw someone playing a demo of this at Target a few weeks back and I fell in love! I REALLY can’t wait to play this game on my PS4 and PS Vita. Best of luck with Axiom Verge and much success to you! Looking forward to playing it real soon!

  • So many wonderful indie games coming out in 2015, and considering how poorly AAA games did in 2014, I suppose it’s a good thing the smaller ones are what I’m most excited about.

  • @ Tom Happ : How much Trophys in the Final Build? Platin Trophy?

    • Right now it’s at 31 trophies; but that can increase if I think of more. There will very likely be a platinum trophy, but I’m still in the “application” phase (Platinum Trophies are considered almost special badge that developers actually have to apply for – not just any game can include them).

  • Any chance we can get the demo that is on the kiosks before release? It was pretty incredible

    • Thanks! I think the chance of a demo before release is unlikely, but never say never. Although if we did release one I think it would be shorter than the store demo, which I made quite long so as to keep it on display longer :)

  • Makes sense. I’m just impatient. I was doing OK.. Following every crumb about this game up until I tried it in best buy.

  • Played the demo at a Best Buy couple weeks ago. Absolutely loved it! Def. first day buy from me, I guarantee you that man!!!! Happy holidays, be safe, and hope nothing but the best.

  • Hey Tom, played the game at IndieCade. It was super cool, pumped for it to come out.

    Cheers.

  • I played your game earlier at a Target kiosk. Looks sweet! Can’t wait for the full game!

  • love the Metroid style inspirations.

  • Man I’m hoping for a sequel when I get this. Please don’t wait over a decade like the big N did.

  • One of my most anticipated games of 2015… Right up there along with Uncharted 4 and Star Wars Battlefront.

  • Is there any chance you’ll release the soundtrack to game?

  • Ever since I saw this game, I knew I had to have. Reminds me of when I used to play metroid. So I will be getting it.
The one thing that kinda bothers me is the way the main character looks. Just kinda bugs me.

Other than that, I’m highly impressed with what I’ve seen and hope its just as good.

    Cheers.

  • Tom was my college dorm buddy, and this success is well deserved!! It’s fun to know celebrities! LOL Can’t wait to play the full version. Played great at PAX! Happy New Year, Tom!

  • Happy New Year and thank you for bringing your game to the PS fans!

This game is something that not only brings back great memories but also tells that there can still be great new innovative ideas brought to our gaming world in retro form. Thank you for allowing us all to be able to play this fantastic game it will be. I can not wait to play and I can not wait for people to experience it and seeing old retro style games still have life. You’re an inspiration to the game industry and deserve as much commendation as the next big game devs, if not bigger.

Happy New Year once again, and thank you from PS Nation :)

  • Happy holidays to you too Tom.

I’m exceptionally excited for this game. Waiting patiently has been a monumental task, but thankfully it’s almost over!

  • I will buy this!!

  • Tom Happ that is a very cool avatar.

  • Im interested in the game. But why have definite plans for releasing the soundtrack, but no plans for a demo? We certainly need more demos.

  • The more I hear from this game, the more I can’t wait.
The looks of the game just thrills me. And GOSH, that music !

Actually, I would say that Axiom Verge is not a love letter or a tribute to Metroid. Axiom Verge is the FUDGING Metroid 5 we’ve been waiting for for many years.

I know what i just said will divide, but that’s what i think.

Tom Happ, I bow you my virtual hat and I assure you my purchase of the game, the soundtrack, some of the merch, and my support for your future games, even if they’re only half as good as Axiom Verge promises to be.

  • Kansha Arigatou :)

  • I’m really excited for this game. I hope it’s on good and on my vita.

  • The game looks great! I would love a limited physical edition on PS4 like the Retro City Rampage DX limited physical edition.

  • I love old school games and after reading this article I can’t wait to play it. The thing that I liked most about the article is that it does not seem at all like a rehashed shovelware game. Kudos!

  • Thanks Tom… Hopo you also enjoyed your holidays :) you’re a truly amazing developer… Sush a masterpiece coming from just a single person is too good to be true. It had to be tons and tons of hard work and I sincerely admire you for that. Respects :) I have a couple of questions:
_ how long is gonna be the gameplay time aprox?
_ any chances of free for ps plus members at the release? (Like infinity 2x or duke nukem 3d)
_ are there plans for more stages/episodes as dlc’s if the game sells well?
And that’s it :) I really whish you the best and hope a LOT of people buy your game bro! Seriously you deserve it! ;)
    Cya! n_n

    • -I’m estimating it at around 10 hours (Dan took almost 17 hours but he’s very thorough).
-I don’t know yet about what will be offered at launch; I don’t *think* free for PS plus is one of the options, but cannot say for sure
-I don’t want to have any DLC (I’d rather work on the next game instead), though there might be a patch at some point with some minor new features

  • When can we expect it to be available for pre-order in the store?
