The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited Launches June 9th

We are excited to announce that The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited edition will be arriving on PS4 on Tuesday, June 9th! This marks the first time in the series’ history that you’ll be able to play an Elder Scrolls game on PlayStation with your friends. Tamriel Unlimited features all the major updates that the game has seen on PC over the last year plus many important changes that will be rolling out in the coming months.

The biggest change coming with Tamriel Unlimited is that you will no longer need a game subscription to play! Because we are removing the requirement for a monthly game subscription, you will now need to ensure you have an active PSN account with PlayStation Plus to play ESO as long as you like.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited

If you’ve played ESO on PC, you’ll immediately notice the major changes made to the game’s user interface. The game now caters to your DualShock 4, and feels closer to experiences you’ve had with past Elder Scrolls games on consoles. One of our biggest changes arriving in time for ESO’s PS4 launch is the addition of the Champion and Justice systems. The Champion System is a totally new progression system for max-level characters, while the Justice System, which allows you to steal, murder, and be brought to justice if you’re caught! Stop there, criminal scum!

Tamriel Unlimited also debuts ESO’s new optional membership package, ESO Plus. With this premium membership service, players will be granted free access to all of the game’s DLC game packs; bonuses to XP, gold, and crafting; and a monthly allotment of Crowns to purchase items from the Crown Store. What’s the Crown Store, you ask? This is an all-new merchant store to ESO full of optional cosmetic and convenience items you can purchase for Crowns, a new currency allowing you to buy content directly from PlayStation Store. You’ll be able to fully enjoy ESO without being a member, but we think you’ll really enjoy the benefits if you have fun playing the game.

Those that don’t enroll in ESO Plus can still expect free patches that implement fixes and other improvements along with optional DLC offerings you can purchase to add more adventures to the already-enormous game.

Between now and the game’s launch, we’ve got plenty more to share on Tamriel Unlimited — including details on when you’ll first be able to play the game in Beta. On behalf of everyone at ZeniMax Online and Bethesda, we look forward to having our Elder Scrolls fans in the PlayStation community join our adventure. See you online in June!

  • So it’s another pay to win model.

This is what’s wrong with games today. You guys don’t care about making an online game where you just grind it out. You have to make it easy for people who are too lazy to do the work and will just throw $$ at you to help them along. Stop cash grabbing and give us a bug free game without a pay to win model.

  • This is great news!!

  • @51 So you expect them to maintain massive servers that costs a large amount for nothing? They already took away the subscription and offer other ways for people to help support keeping the servers up and running. I am not even that big of an Elder Scrolls fan, but am considering this anyway. If I enjoy it, I do not mind showing support so the servers do not end up getting shut down. They probably tried to work out other deals to get it so they could maintain the servers as it is.

  • @50 SilentNova

That’s not a jerk of a question at all. “Lifetime subscriptions” in MMOs are totally a thing. Star Trek Online had one.

Had a couple of friends get burned by that lol

  • I have two questions… I have ESO since launch on my PC and love it, so will PC version also be free because in the article it doesn’t specifically say it’s free for PC. Also with my second question, is ESO cross-platform. I have PC and a PS4 but I don’t feel like buying a second copy for the PS4 just to play with my friends. So is ESO free on PC? And also is ESO cross-platform?

  • This has just taken too long. I had the PS4 pre-order since day 1 and I finally cancelled it recently since all we’ve heard of for a year now are the delays. That what Beth’s actions, or rather inactions, have caused for someone who loved Skyrim so much that after getting the plat on PS3, I bought an Xbox to play it again, with voice command.

I’m going to wait and see on this now.

  • OMGallagher – When Tamriel Unlimited goes live on PC/Mac (March 17th), subscriptions will go away; only a game purchase will be required to play. Everyone who has purchased the game, whether they have an active subscription or not when we make the change, will be able to come back to the game and play.

ESO is not cross-platform. There is one North America megaserver and one European megaserver for PC/Mac. When the game launches on PS4, it will be much the same (one PS4 megaserver for North America, and one for Europe.)

  • So the game comes out a year after it was supposed to be launched on PS4….now they took out the sub after milking all the PC players. It has an awful 5.7 metacritic user score.
I remember trying the BETA it really was painful. If you are a fan of SKYRIM avoid this game!
if you want an honest review on this you can search youtube angry joe ESO review….
Do not support a DEV that does not take gamers seriously.

  • nice!!!!!! one question, will it be cross server? I mean, PC players will play with PS4 too?? and vice versa?

    • ESO will not be cross-platform. We currently have one North American megaserver and one European megaserver for PC/Mac. When we launch Tamriel Unlimited on PS4 on June 9th, there will also be one North American megaserver and one European megaserver solely for PS4 players.

  • So they went from “Pay us 60 bucks AND a subscription for an MMO” to “Pay us 60 bucks for a F2P with the typical premium currency”? Yeah, I’m thinking this game can still suck it.

  • @53 Yes that is exactly what we expect. Just like the 100s of other games that maintain lots and lots of servers without additional compensation.

  • Sweet! Really looking forward to this one. I enjoyed the PC Beta, except for the fact that my laptop was underpowered.

  • can you explain why ESO needs a PS+ subscription when all the other F2P/MMO’s on the PS4 don’t require it?

  • So what if we pre-ordered the Imperial Edition of this game for PS4 ages ago? Is that still a thing? And will the Tamriel Unlimited version come with that edition of the game?

    • Thanks for pre-ordering, Tuftyman! If you pre-ordered the Imperial Edition for PS4, you will definitely still receive it. The game will automatically update to Tamriel Unlimited when we launch on PS4, on June 9th.

  • Will there be a difference between the PC and PS4 versions as far as quality and look of the game?

  • Nice I have had the ps4 imperial Edition pre-ordered since april last year I hope we still get our molag bal statue , the explorers pack pre-order bonus and the other stuff that was suppose to be included with the imperial edition we still get all that stuff right?

    • Yes, if you pre-ordered the physical Imperial Edition for PS4, you will still get all the goodies you mentioned. :) And the game will automatically update to Tamriel Unlimited when we launch on PS4 in June.

  • I will judge for myself in the Beta hope you guys are hoping to have one

    • Yes, we are planning to have a beta for the console version of ESO. We’ll have more details a little closer to the beta itself. We hope you’ll join us!

  • Ignore hoping in my last comment ( Goofy dam fingers)

  • WOOT for 1xB (1 time buy)! If this was going to require a monthly fee I would of definitely said H to the L NO! But I will buy this for sure now……. crap 5 months to wait, well guess I will have FFt0 and Dying Light to hold me over

  • Scratch that… I wont have Dying Light, PlayStation refuses to take my money. I have a VISA gift card but the dam store requires information that the card DOESNT need! Their loss not mine. I was 50/50 on it now 100% on not buying it…. good job playstation

  • Been waiting for this and glad to finally have a release. I am thinking ur sub service is similar to DCUO in that u will have access to the full game but not the dlcs unless u sub or purchase separately. I was wondering if there would be any other similar limitations like the amount of money u can carry as well?

    • You’ve got the right idea, TimboJames. With Tamriel Unlimited, you’ll have access to the game with no limitations. You simply make the one-time purchase of the game and then continue playing without restrictions for as long as you like. We do not limit the amount of gold you can carry, your experience gain, what chat channels you can talk in, etc.

If you choose, you can purchase optional downloadable content, and convenience and customization items in the in-game Crown Store.

      Hope that helps! :)

  • Is an ESO beta coming because that was exclusive to PlayStation or did you scratch that?!

    • We are indeed still planning on having a beta for the console version of ESO. As we get closer to when that will be, we’ll have more details to share.

  • Can’t wait I love elder scrolls games. I wasn’t going
To get this one till I saw that it is free to play
I’m so happy now that you don’t need to pay to play

  • I guess I’m the only person that is worried about no subscription fee, worried but intrigued. The small micro transactions makes it sound like a free-to-play, I have a lot of games on my radar but this is one has NEVER left my mind! I am as excited as I was they day they announced it! Me and my friends can’t wait! Seriously this is going to be AMAZING!

  • Please bring Skyrim to PS4!

  • Question.

Will there be an option to play the game with seamless online integration instead of fully online? My internet is absolutely horrid, and no matter how much I try to get my internet provider to come and fix it, they say nothing is wrong.

I played a bit of Destiny which has seamless online integration on my PS4, and no matter how bad my internet connection was, I could still play the game, I just didn’t encounter anyone else. I tried playing Final Fantasy XIV on my PS4, which is fully online, and not even 5 minutes after playing, the game would lose connection, not be able to log back in for about an hour, and once I did log in, it lost connection after another 5 minutes.

I know Destiny isn’t exactly an MMO, and TESO is a full on MMO… But would that be possible with the game at all?

    Thank you

  • Wend we Will can pré order the game frome psn store? and eso + can we will buy on psn store too at the launch? Thx can t wait to play. And à another question is the beta is coming on ps4 too?

  • When most MMOs transition to F2P it ends up being a complete cluster. I’ll have to wait and see how they handle F2P. I really dont want to pay 59.99 for a game and then be treated like a second class citizen.

  • HOLY BANANA PANTS! It’s finally here ESO! I can’t wait! Pre-ordered already!

  • I’ve had the PS4 Imperial Edition pre-ordered forever now… What’s going to happen with that? Should I cancel my pre-order and get my money back or is the Imperial Edition still a thing but now for “The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited”?

  • Ignore the above comment -_- I see that the question was already answered and I can’t edit or delete my comments.

  • So ontop of spending 60$-70$ for the game, I need a ps+ membership AND a eso membership.
I know the eso membership is “optional” but like a lot of mmos I’ve played if you don’t pay for the xp
Boost then the leveling grind takes forever. So people can expect around 30$ a month for a decent lvling
Experience? Thanks Sony for ruining this one for me.

  • Saw ****** reviews and gameplay. I think I’ll stick with gta v and farcry 4

  • the xp gain, gold gain… is 10% for membership.

  • Finally there is no more of that subscription they had

  • Not the biggest fan, but I’ll buy it for sure. I want console MMOs.

  • Elder Scrolls is by far my favorite running game series. However I hate all these online games. I hope the fact that it is a online only game doesn’t ruin it.

  • OK, now that the subscription is gone I’m getting serious. I want to play with my kids so I’m thinking we need 2 ps4’s, 2 games, and one ps plus membership (which should let the subaccounts get on) Is this correct? I think I might even be able to swing it with 1 digital copy, was going to try it with destiny but haven’t gotten the 2nd ps4 to try it out.

  • If you can afford PS Plus and you have no internet data limits than I guess you are good to go. I was so looking forward to another Elder Scrolls game. Not sure if I like how the game industry is heading with all this online stuff. When I play a good RPG or most any game for that matter, I want it to be private and just sit back and take my time with it and not have to worry about what my friend is doing in the game or running out of data.

  • nice now i might give this game a shot…….

  • Thank you but I’ll pass….on a related note will we ever see Skyrim ported to the PS4…I would gladly pay 60 bucks for that.

  • Skyrim the legendary edition on the PS4 would be fantastic! Maybe even some new DLC for it too???

  • I like you Bethesda (for the most part). But i’ll have to skip this. I’ll patiently wait for SKYRIM Resmatered APOLOGY Edition and Fallout Resmatered versions on PS4. I’m serious ;)

    Looking forward to DisHonored 2.

  • *Remastered :)

  • Well i have been waiting for this to hit PS, love you took away the subscription, although it was sneakily added back with a different subscription, although being optional. It gives access to things people will eventually want when they see other players with them. still probably will be picking up this game.

  • Don’t need a PS+ sub to play FFXIV on PS4. Just sayin… :P

  • WOAH!! Thank you very Much Bethesda, im a big fan of the Elder Scrolls SAGA, and im glad to se the cancelation of the month pay, im onli waiting for the release DATE yeah!!!!

  • Awesome news ZOS – as a long time subscriber on PC, I’m looking forward to my $20 AUD transfer to PS4, 55″ with a controller, that’s how I like my TES experiences, stoked!!!!

  • @58
Most negative reviews were delivered by ignorant people such as yourself – ignorant in the fact that they failed to play the game upon its release but were more than happy to absorb the thoughts and words of others as their own, rather than thinking for themselves.
Most people that play the game enjoy it immensely.
Can’t wait until this hits the PSN.
