The biggest change coming with Tamriel Unlimited is that you will no longer need a game subscription to play! Because we are removing the requirement for a monthly game subscription, you will now need to ensure you have an active PSN account with PlayStation Plus to play ESO as long as you like.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited

If you’ve played ESO on PC, you’ll immediately notice the major changes made to the game’s user interface. The game now caters to your DualShock 4, and feels closer to experiences you’ve had with past Elder Scrolls games on consoles. One of our biggest changes arriving in time for ESO’s PS4 launch is the addition of the Champion and Justice systems. The Champion System is a totally new progression system for max-level characters, while the Justice System, which allows you to steal, murder, and be brought to justice if you’re caught! Stop there, criminal scum!

Tamriel Unlimited also debuts ESO’s new optional membership package, ESO Plus. With this premium membership service, players will be granted free access to all of the game’s DLC game packs; bonuses to XP, gold, and crafting; and a monthly allotment of Crowns to purchase items from the Crown Store. What’s the Crown Store, you ask? This is an all-new merchant store to ESO full of optional cosmetic and convenience items you can purchase for Crowns, a new currency allowing you to buy content directly from PlayStation Store. You’ll be able to fully enjoy ESO without being a member, but we think you’ll really enjoy the benefits if you have fun playing the game.

Those that don’t enroll in ESO Plus can still expect free patches that implement fixes and other improvements along with optional DLC offerings you can purchase to add more adventures to the already-enormous game.

Between now and the game’s launch, we’ve got plenty more to share on Tamriel Unlimited — including details on when you’ll first be able to play the game in Beta. On behalf of everyone at ZeniMax Online and Bethesda, we look forward to having our Elder Scrolls fans in the PlayStation community join our adventure. See you online in June!

  • Jessica, are you aware that the ESO website is non-functional for Firefox users? It goes to the age gate and back to the main page when you click on any link. I’d make a joke about standard ZeniMax testing and quality control, but it’s too easy.

  • So I guess for myself, I’m still trying to find out an exact answer to my question. I tweeted to TESO and everything and even contacted retailers regarding this Tamriel Unlimited Edition. I understand all current pre orders are being transferred over into this new edition, but my question is regarding the physical contents/items from pre orders on Imperial Edition. I had pre ordered Imperial Edition and one of the main reasons were for the physical contents that this edition was offering. With Imperial Edition being transferred over, we will still be getting the physical contents that was offered with Imperial Edition when our’s are transferred into Tamriel Unlimited Edition? I had contacted Gamestop to already find out my pre order of Imperial was automatically transferred into this edition, but cannot get any confirmation regarding the physical items.

    • If you pre-ordered the physical Imperial Edition of ESO for PS4, you will be getting it along with all the physical items it comes with. The game will automatically update to Tamriel Unlimited on June 9th when we launch on PS4.

  • OK, I am really interested in this game, but how much of it is restricted to the premium 14.99 subscription?

  • Nevermind on my question. Come to find out Gamestop finally updated their end and are actually offering a ESO: Tamriel Imperial Edition that now my pre order automatically went to from standard after having the original pre order on Imperial Edition. Hope amazon updates their site as I have another for the wife pre ordered with them

  • Will we be able to earn trophies in this game without ESO Plus? That’s the main thing that bugs me with DCUO. You can play the game without a sub, but it went full F2P, so you don’t have to pay any money to play it at all. It makes sense that they locked the trophies behind the sub, but it would end up costing a lot more than $60 to get them all for most players.

If a $60 purchase of the main game allows me to earn trophies, without having to also purchase an ESO Plus sub, I’ll more than likely pick this up.

To everyone in the comments who don’t know what they’re talking about. Stop bringing up Bethesda, please. They had nothing to do with this game. It’s by Zenimax Online, the MMO division of the parent company that also owns Bethesda. You’re basically thanking Charlie Sheen for being in the Mighty Ducks movies. Yes, Charlie and Emilio Estevez are both Martin Sheen’s kids, but they aren’t remotely the same person. Same thing here.

  • Fallout 3, Fallout: NV, and Skyrim all released to PlayStation as big ol’ piles of bugs. Then, Bethesda quickly and systematically abandoned each title, leaving each in an unstable–if not an outright broken–state after collecting gamers’ dollars.

Not this time ZeniMax. Not this time.

  • SO since I bought the PC version during the “buy PC version get PS4 or xboxone version for I think it was $19.99” is that offer still going to happen? I can not find any websites saying this anymore at this point.

  • I have the same question. I bought the game for PC/Mac for the eventual jump to PS4 with the knowledge of there being a discount for when the console version was ready. I’m not seeing anymore info about this so I really hope this isn’t being shafted.

  • same here. I would be pissed lol

  • If games were judged solely on their trailers then ESO would get a 10. I’m completely siked to play it after watching them. However, I’ll reserve judgement until after actually having played it. I hear lackluster things from the PC community about the game but I remain hopeful that the new additions, patches, and streamlining for consoles Bethesda has done will give PS4 Elder Scrolls fans like myself the type of experience they’re looking for.

  • definitely getting this now that the subscription has been dropped :-) I might be done Dragon Age Inquisition by then lol my family and friends wont see or hear much of me for even longer haha!

  • Are you guys going to release more copies of the Imperial Edition?

  • After everything Ive heard and seen about the PC version of this game I will be passing. I will check out the reviews, but Im not holding my breath.

  • hopefully they have the transfer deal option again. I have enjoyed the game, and the main reason I would want it on ps4 has more to do with mmos on console have voice chat with most players having mics, and the playing field is even due to the systems being the same. I don’t think I would spend another $60 though to play on my couch. I will wait a few months and buy the game used for $30 after I find out if its worth it.

  • I have pre-order ESO for the longest time, is it going to be the same as Destiny where pre-ordering will get you get a beta code and then later Bungie gave code access to all to try out their beta version for three days? It got all my buddies to purchase Destiny for the PS4 who, in the beginning, never was interested in Destiny at all. I hope Bethesda will offer beta testing to all PSN members or better yet to all PS4 owners to try out the beta version. Sony might get more PSN subscribers and Bethesda might get more game sells and potentially more ESO plus members. I am going to get the game, its trying to convince my buddies to get the game and form our own little guild that might take more convincing. Hopefully waiting one more year for Bethesda to perfect the game will be worth the wait.

  • So do I get anything for having the game preordered for a year?

  • I’m new to elder scrolls but my friends aren’t they’ve played a few games and they say don’t get it but I think it looks cool, what should I do?

  • Hopefully this will be read by Jessica. I would pay full retail price digital to let me keep my pc account, copy my characters over to ps4 and have both copies with my characters available on both PC and ps4. I’m sure y’all would sell a lot more copies by doing this. Just don’t want to start over

  • Dude do you guys even read it clearly says on the box NO SUBSCRIPTION NEEDED,MEANING FREE TO PLAY.

  • IF YOU WANT EXTRA CONTENT THEN ACQUIRE THE MEMBERSHIP

  • No more subscription fee is good but what about quests that were so boring? Also, can we expect an updated sell/trade system cause the setup at launch was terrible. Not to mention the friend/party system failed aswell. I hope these updates you speak of address these things or it may well be the last Elder Scrolls title I ever play an I been a fan since Daggerfell on DOS

  • You mention on post 107 that it was a limited time offer “The offer you’re talking about was a one-time limited offer that expired on June 30, 2014. Here’s the original news announcement for reference: http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/news/post/2014/05/08/eso-on-consoles–update“….but it does not say anywhere that you needed to sign up for it…it just states that if you purchased and activated by 6/30/2014 you would have the opportunity to move to the PS4 at a reduced cost.

Was there something we needed to sign up for or if we purchased the PC version and activated it before 6/30/2014 we get the reduced cost transfer to PS4? Just looking for clarification.

    • yotguitar – Sorry for any confusion! You’re correct. You just need to have purchased and activated your PC/Mac copy of ESO by 6/30/2014 to be eligible for the console transfer.

  • This is lame how they are gonna pull the PS plus card out on us now I’ve been waiting for this game the past year and it was bad enough i was only gonna play the month we got the free trial and stop until it became free to play but now we need ps plus its pretty lame can’t this just be free to play online because the main reason i’m getting this is to play this with my friends without having to play with PS plus but now Sony is killing my dreams, thanks a lot Sony.

  • + Jessica Folsom

I love elder scrolls alot, and i Pre-Ordered the Imperial edition but when dlc’s are out will there be map areas that will be blocked off to people who don’t pay the ESO+? Or will we still be getting tamriel updates just that ESO+ gets extra dungeons and quests and such.

    • When ESO comes out on PlayStation 4 in June, it will come with everything that is currently in the game (plus Update 6, which is on our public test server now.) The DLC we’ll release in the future for The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited consists of game packs with optional adventuring content (zones, quests, etc.) added to the game to enhance your game play experience should you choose. It is not required. Anything that is required to play the game, or important bugs fixes and updates to current systems and mechanics will be included at no additional cost.

  • So…Say I buy ESO Tamriel Unlimited but I’m not a ps plus member…Then what, I will have to pay 50$ ps plus subscription a year for a ”not anymore subscription game”, which I already payed 60$ for?
That acounts to…lets see: 110$ total expense for one year of ESO on ps4.160$ two years of expense,210$ for three so on…
    *sigh*

  • hello I have a question I have eso DIGITAL IMPERIAL EDITION on pc will my dlc go over to the ps4?

    • It depends on when you purchased your digital Imperial Edition and activated your game account. If it was before June 30, 2014, you will be eligible to transfer (copy, really) your characters from your PC account to your PS4 account. As for what is transferred with you, here are the details (from one of our KB articles.)

Players who take advantage of the PC/Mac-to-console transfer will have the following included in the transfer: characters (in the same state), items (equipped to characters, in the inventory, and in the bank).

The following aspects of a game account are not included with the transfer: in-game mail, guilds, friends list, ignore list, Trial leaderboard status, AvA leaderboard status, and crowns.

Players should make sure to retrieve all items from their in-game mail before purchasing the transfer, as items not yet retrieved will not be transferred.

  • so instead of a fresh server on ps4 with all new toons, its going to be a new server, with people from pc paying to be transferred to it? this would keep me from buying this game. fresh server is fun. fresh server with max level asshats is a pain.

  • +opikal Because we are removing the requirement for a monthly game subscription, you will now need to ensure you have an active PSN account with PlayStation Plus to play ESO as long as you like.

  • Hi Jessica,

I have a question. I have been holding out for the PS4 version but after watching a recent video it was mentioned that you could transfer your existing PC char over to PS4.

I have have bought ESO now for the PC and have started leveling my chars under the impression that i can one day port them over to PS4 upon its release.

I am aware of the: Bought last year offer previously mentioned in the thread.

Obviously i am not eligible for this as i only started playing a few days BUT, i would like to transfer my character/s over all the same.

Can you clarify if this service is gonna be available for current PC users BUYING the PS4 version of the game upon release.

To recap…I am not interested in the reduced price of the PS4 game offer for people who bought it last year.

I want to know IF i’m currently playing ESO now on PC…..If i buy the PS4 version, Will i be able to port my Char over from PC to PS4.

I will not be playing the game on PC once the PS4 version comes out and bought the game with the intention of transferring to PS4. I don’t want to waste my time leveling on PC now if in 4 months I cant use the character on PS4

    Cheers

  • If you are going to the trouble of putting a system in place to do this but only allowing a minority to participate then thats just wrong.

So I hope Bethesda/zenimax are not going to isolate the the rest of their fan base by not allowing them to transfer to console if they choose to do so.

People who buy the full price version of the console game ideally should be able to link there accounts and transfer characters if their characters are a reasonable level say starting level 15 or so.

Whether thats a paid transfer service is your call but your building the tool to do it so why not take full advantage of this. I’m sure not alone in wanting to play this on console and wanting to take my favorite characters with me from PC whether thats to PS4 or XBOX ONE

  • Similar to what #130 said…

So just to be clear, if i buy the PC version tomorrow, will i be able to transfer my character once I buy the PS4 version in June?

Or was the transfer-your-character eligibility available last year?

  • Will there be subtitles at everywhere while travelling around in world??

There is PC had no subtitles option, so I had to get add-on for it. What about PS4 version? It’s a must for me and other who are also deaf players.
