Gunsport Trailer: A World Renewed

We previously introduced Necrosoft Games‘ Gunsport to you back in April — it’s a cyberpunk volleyball with guns-style eSport for the PS4, coming in late 2015. After a successful showing at the PlayStation Experience, we’d like to finally reveal to you our first teaser trailer. In it, you’ll get a glimpse into the world of Gunsport – a world without war.

Gunsport

In the alternate future of Gunsport, humanity has lost its taste for war, and regional pride now takes the form of sport and performance, much like football or soccer does in America and Europe. But each region, many of which were newly formed after the fall of war, has achieved its new found peace in a unique way. Today we will tell you about one of those: Neo Tokyo. Neo Tokyo reflects a Japan that is consumed by technology, much like you see in the real Tokyo of today. But Neo Tokyo also marries this with another real Tokyo trend – the desire by some to return to a time of master craftsmanship, strong national identity, and creation.

This is why the Neo Tokyo you’ll see in Gunsport appears to be so analog focused – with neon signs, personally crafted automobiles, and buildings that are allowed to wear down and show their character, without losing their functionality. Everything in Neo Tokyo was hand crafted to bring out its unique flavor.

Neo Tokyo also values a strong sense of group identity, which you’ll find in our characters, which we’ll be introducing at a later date. The current Neo Tokyo characters you see in the trailer, on the right side of the screen, are… shall we say apprentices in the game of Gunsport. Where you might consider these players to be initiates, or street punks, our final characters are masters, sponsored by the Yakuza for their prowess and what they represent to the national identity. That doesn’t mean they always go along with what others say, though.

The future of Gunsport

In this trailer you’ll also catch a few seconds of the Blue Cambodia background, as well as our team from the People’s Republic of Oakland (on the left), which is a new city-state in the US. There will be more stages and characters revealed as we move forward – we are trying to make this a very international game, as we are a very international team. No two people at Necrosoft even live in the same country!

What we’re showing you here in this trailer is our prototype – since its creation we have been working hard to revamp and update all our backgrounds, characters, and we hope you’ll like what we have in store.

The game is tough, it’s hard, it’s fast, and since each team has its own stage, its own weapon set, and its own personality, we think it will provide a fair amount of variety. Please feel free to follow our progress as we work on Gunsport via @NecrosoftGames on Twitter. We hope you like the trailer, and may all your shots be true!

  • PLEASE let us know when we can expect the game! It seriously looks like a ton of fun. Love the look and aesthetics, and I can honestly say it’s one of the most unique games I’ve come across. Please please PLEASE update us soon!

    • Right now it seems we’ll be done round about end of the year… it’s a long wait, but we’re redoing ALL the graphics and the code from scratch, plus making sure online multiplayer is good, so… lots of work!

  • This looks really cool! I’m excited to play :D

  • The art style reminds me of Eternal Champions from the Genesis/Mega Drive days, which I love. I like the odd concept a lot.

  • Hey Brandon,

Your game looks really colorful and cool! I love the catchy music too!!!

I wanted to ask if you guys would consider on making “Dynamic Themes” and “Avatar Pictures” for the PS4. Your game would look cool displayed on everyone’s PS4.

    Cheers!!!

    Rob aka Graf

P.S. Please keep posting info on the PS Blog as your game gets closer to launch, thanks.

  • This looks really awesome!

  • Wow. This seriously looks so tight. Definitely inviting my friends over to play this when it comes out! Holy shiz haha.

  • MP only? This game is seriously not for me.

@At Graf: would you quit spammong that stupid comment? Thanks.

  • I love the extended EGA palette approach to the backgrounds, you really captures the EGA vector art of SCI-era Sierra games.

Sports/fighting games typically aren’t my thing, but I used to love Soul Caliber 2 on original Xbox. I’ll definitely try a demo of this game with some friends to see if it “grabs” me the way SC2 did 10+ years ago :)

  • Yes I’ve bought most powerful console on the market to play SNES games.

  • I’ve said it before. I’m tired of this retro art style and sometimes even game play. Let it die please.

No offense to the devs. I’m sure you worked your hearts out on it but please reconsider on your future projects.

  • @ClinToN or coment 10 : I 100% agree with you. tired of retro art style and game play. Let it die please. just look the devs like Thatgamecompany, hello games, Starbreeze Studios, etc.. Sometimes I think of those developers that create an experience in 8 or 16 bits think they will back famous. Enough is enough players. let says no more retro style. cheers

  • The Graphics look fun. The music in the trailer seem alright. WORST IDEA FOR A GAME EVER!!! You couldn’t pay me to play this stinky pile. I can already tell this is going to be a Ps Plus Game on release which ****** me off most.
*Ps Plus gives 2 games per system per month(1 old game no one is buying & 1 new retro ****** game being developed jus to fill out Ps Plus)

  • Just what my 400 dollar paper weight needs another crappy looking game. Seriously Sony open up the store for Ps1/2 titles on the Ps4 and release an emulater for the physical games.

  • Animations look stiff and cheap. Jumping looks “floaty”. Not a great first impression.

    • the art is from a month’s worth of prototype work – the game is VERY early right now. wait til you see what we’ve done with the final artwork!

  • Looks like fun, i cant wait to play it with my fam. If you dont have anything nice to say.._. Atleast spew your negativism in the right direction.

  • The dev has every right to hear impressions (negative or otherwise) from the player base. If it’s so early the development process, it might be a better idea to present it when it’s in a more complete state. Showing a game that looks like some Steam early access garbage doesn’t prop up a lot of confidence.

  • @13 you dont want crappy looking games, but want ps1 games on the store? Dur.

  • sell -> $4.99 price? + online match making?

might be funi don’t want to dis but i am in the same boat as some of the other guys pc ports, smartphone ports, ps3 ports, remasters, 8/16/32 bit graphics… Im looking for better quality and long replayable games… don’t get me wrong strider, FEZ, citizens of earth and towerfall are fun but the retro scene for next gen getting old. i do hope this is fun tho

  • @17 I should have worded it different but like everything else that releases anymore on the Ps4 it looks like one of those 5 dollar releases at the end of the Ps1, I would rather play a classic that has the gameplay/story.

  • Oh my god, not another one of those “retro” games….Ok, I just can’t hold my tongue anymore. I am so, so sick of all these 2D, retro, side scrolling 8 and 16 bit games. Stuff like this became successful earlier in the decade only because its been gone for so long, people actually thought it was refreshing.

  • @19 totally agree

  • This looks excellent! Eternal Champions meets Slime Volleyball. I don’t get hyped too often but this is definitely a day 1 buy if it’s reasonably priced.

  • hi everyone would like know the playstation about the game modnation which was a hit for ps3 will have the version ps4. thanks

  • Well I wish you guys the best but as someone who has worked freelance for many companies over the years, not even have two production leads in the same physical headquarters puts you at a great disadvantage. This post and the talk of a Neo Tokyo comes off as someone who has just seen Bladerunner for the first time (I’m not going for a cheap shot with that comment or this post but I’ve been a member of such teams and know the trappings). Not every game has to have a multi-million dollar budget or a staff of hundreds (or even dozens) but if you want your game to be sucessfully (not just commercially but as a representation of yourselves) it needs to have a hook; this just looks like a lot of poorly recycled ideas at this stage.

  • I’m a fan of retro style when it is used well. As for this game, I don’t think it is for me, but I like that plenty of others are excited.
