PlayStation, Meet Spotify

Hello everyone! I’m thrilled today to introduce a new music destination called PlayStation Music, with Spotify as the exclusive partner. We’ve partnered with our friends at Spotify to bring its award-winning digital music service to PlayStation Network this spring in 41 markets around the world.

PlayStation Music + Spotify

We know how important music is to our community of gamers, and this partnership combines the best in music with the best in gaming. PlayStation Network users will enjoy the convenience of linking your accounts to Spotify, making it easy to sign-up with your existing ID and subscribe to Spotify’s Premium service. You can also use Spotify while playing games on PS4, enabling you to soundtrack your gaming sessions with your favorite songs in the background. Want something heavy and rocking for an intense Destiny Raid? How about some old school hip hop while taking the field in Madden NFL? With more than 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists, Spotify on PlayStation Music has it covered. As we get closer to launch we look forward to telling you about some of the other great features that will be available exclusively through Spotify on PlayStation Music.

The new service will launch initially on PS4 and PS3, as well as Xperia smartphones and tablets. You’ll of course be able to listen to your favorite playlists – including existing playlists from current Spotify users as well as Spotify curated playlists – and enjoy the service on all of Spotify’s supported devices.

Prior to the launch of Spotify on PlayStation Music, the Music Unlimited service will close in all 19 countries on March 29, 2015. Nearly all of these countries will be among the 41 markets where PlayStation Music featuring Spotify will be available at launch, including the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Brazil. From February 28, 2015, Music Unlimited users with active subscriptions will receive up to 30 days of free access through March 29, 2015.

Stay tuned to PlayStation.Blog for more details on PlayStation Music featuring Spotify, and in the meantime you can sign up for updates here.

  • Sony, will there be any HELP or some special TOOL provided to help loyal MU users “transfer” titles on existing playlists (or entire playlists of songs painstakingly built over years and years) over to Spotify BEFORE it all disappears in 60 days? PLEASE HELP

    Sincerely,
    Desperate for a Fix

  • P.S.– if i have to start from scratch again– i think it might as well be GooglePlay because their interface/experience during a free trial was spot on–AND– Google (for as long as they choose) can be a formidable player.

    Best,
LoyalMU User for ages it seems like

Spotify offline mode can have 3 devices, same as MU has.

  • As per Spotify.com and their help and faqs:

” Can I listen offline on more than one device?

Yes. You can save playlists for offline use on up to three devices. For example, you could use offline mode on your computer, tablet, and mobile phone at the same time.

If you attempt to use offline mode on more than three devices, the oldest registered device will not work offline. “

  • Rdio is much better than Spotify! Why don’t you guys expand your market adding other music streaming services?

  • @305 – Zeliudo

Only problem with Rdio, it’s not available as worldwide as Spotify; at least not at the moment.

Sony and Playstation are used world wide.

I just checked Rdio and it’s not available in all countries of Europe.

“Thanks checking in. All Rdio subscriptions start with a free trial but at this time Rdio free is not available in Europe. ”

Sony picked a service that provides service to more countries at the moment than many other services out there.

  • Taken from the Rdio site.

“Although Rdio is currently available in the US and Canada only, paying subscribers can use Rdio on both the Web and Mobile phones while abroad as long as the account remains tied to a billing address in one of those countries.

If you choose not to continue with an Rdio subscription for a period of time, after the account is cancelled you’ll be limited to Rdio free (in the US) or 30-second clips elsewhere, but your Collection, Followers, playlists, etc. will remain tied to the account until you’re ready to resubscribe. “

  • what if you already have a spotify account? can we use that instead of linking my psn account?

  • Love you guys playstation justs keeps on getting better

  • @308 – ARMYDUDE1996

I’m hoping we can use our existing like you mention as well.

Currently, this is all I see only Sony’s website:

Spotify will soon be available on PlayStation™Music, with a special offer for Music Unlimited customers who sign up at launch*.

Also hoping we get another good deal for a year subscription like Sony had a while back.

Playstation Music site from Sony…you receive an email and a link to the above site.

    Email states:

    Dear valued Music Unlimited subscriber,
From March 29, you will no longer be able to use Music Unlimited. However, we will soon be launching an exciting new music experience. If you have an active Music Unlimited subscription at the end of February 2015, you will be able to continue listening until the end of March, and you will not be charged during the month of March. Music Unlimited subscriptions will automatically expire on March 29 and will not renew again.
Check http://www.playstationmusic.com/Spotify for more information regarding our exciting new music experience.
Thanks for your continued loyalty and support.
    Sincerely,
    Music Unlimited

  • Yeeeeeiiiiiiii

  • What is better on Spotify? I’ve subscribed to MU since Xmas and its the best music service I’ve ever used afar as finding songs that are not top 40 or were heavy rotation. I’ve probably downloaded over 1000 songs to my playlists. What will be the big differences? I love MU!

  • @313 – RPC-OG

    I don’t think it’s better, it’s about the same.

I think Sony, like many other companies, is just outsourcing some of it’s business.

I’m on Spotify (was only a free user before, but tried premium this month…you get 1st 30 days free) and find it just about the same as MU.

Not sure if Sony will have the ability to give us some app to copy over our songs and playlists, so thought I’d start to copy them myself to Spotify from MU.

I just logon to both on my pc and compare and try to keep current and the same for now.

  • when this comes out will sony update twitch streaming as well to allow users to include spotify music into your stream? I think streaming would be more entertaining if i could share music rather than just broadcasting in game audio, and microphone.

Regarding music unlimited, its worked great and i’ve loved being able to listen to albums while i play games. The database doesn’t have every album out there, but it has most of what i’ve searched for and is well worth $5 imo.

Please sony allow broadcast settings for twitch to include spotify, that would be so great.

  • Woohoo! I always mute my tv and play spotify off my laptop anyways. Fantastic move sony!

  • Honestly, why have there been zero updates on HBO GO and DLNA support. My PS3 and Wii U can do DLNA, but my PS4 can’t? And my PS3 has HBO GO

  • Quiero my spotify !

  • I don’t understand why this is getting so much hate, we’re retiring a music service that isn’t used by many people, and welcoming a service with millions of users, not to mention the fact that we don’t have to pay for music anymore. Why is everyone complaining? I have no idea, but I sure can’t wait for this!

  • Will Playstation music with Spotify work on the PS Vita

  • So what are you going to do for us Music Unlimited Subscribers. I’ve been subscriber since you offered the deal to PlayStation Plus members somewhere around November 2012.

  • Such great news for me! I’ve been a premium user for a long time, and I’ve never looked back.

  • So this is not coming to vita?

  • Please integrate the new spotify service into the the walkman/music ID app, the way you did with Music Unlimited!!! I want streamline playback with my searches that incorporates my music library along with music ID Tags (listed as a playlist) with spotify’s library (the way music unlimited was as well)!!!

  • @GGCAN do they seem to have the same library? Does Spotify have more than you had on MU?

  • Will the PS Vita ever get Spotify as well?

  • Will you need a credit card to download the app because for most free apps you do.

  • really hope the Vita won’t be left out again

  • @325 – RPC-OG

At first I thought both MU and Spotify were pretty much the same.

But after using it for a bit, I think Spotify has a better library of music available.

  • How soon before this becomes a reality?

  • Omg great news! Been using spotify premium few years and now i can stream with my ps4! Ty Sony & Spotify

  • This post was confusing for me. When exactly will I be able to access Spotify on my PS4?

  • 1) When will Spotify be available on the PS4?
    2) I only found this out just now and I can’t wait!!!

  • Awesome!

  • My favorite music app! I’ve been wanting this forever! Most people that do not like the idea of this think that Spotify is a paid program, it can be paid but it doesn’t have to be! Spotify let’s you shuffle through songs YOU choose. And there are Pandora like listening playlist too! Great move Sony/Spotify

  • so stoked. Unlimited had a horrible library for music, kind of surprised cause sony records is huge. Spotify is going to rock and screw vita. It’s a dying product. Just like ps tv

  • @335 – BallardZooM.

Yes, the free version is great.

However, I like to listen in offline mode, as well, I like the ability to listen to my music in High Quality and have no adds; with that you need the Premium version.

  • Do you have a set date when spotify will be available?

  • So this is awesome! It’s almost like that DLNA feature we’ve been asking for…

    Oh wait, no it isn’t.

  • can listen to music while i play mlb 14 the show on my ps3/

  • Is Sony music with spotify Available in the uk on the 28th ?

  • Is there any chanse that PS-gamers will be able to play music from USB-flash/Spotify and stream game with this music to twitch/ustream? At this moment if I play my own music there is no background music at stream…

  • I have Sony Music Unlimited Premium service and was never able to play music during my stream for viewers to enjoy. Is there anyway that the Spotify app will play for viewers and user alike? What would Sony have to do, or Spotify for that matter to make this a reality? Possibly having commercials through the music while you stream or having an ‘artist overlay’ to give credit to the musician? What does everyone think of this? Please let me know if you’ve looked into it Playstation.

  • since music unlimited is going bye bye is music unlimited still going to be on pc’s

  • and another thing when you switch to PlayStation music, are you going to show the record label and transfer my albums? because they are hard to find.

  • Am I the only one not ticked off by this move. Yeah great job Sony, forcing people to buy an Xperia in place of an affordable Vita.
Not to mention the accumalative data plans. I’m sure plenty of shills are here supporting this asinine move.
Great job Sony, you made the Vita, practically a paper weight. No support for Vita with Spotify, means a useless Vita.
You lost my support, and am no longer buying anything Sony related.
    Good Day!!
