Tomorrow, PlayStation 4 will get an update to system software version 2.50, codenamed “Yukimura,” which will bring an onslaught of features: some you’ve been anticipating, many you’ve requested, and others that might surprise you. This update will make significant improvements to your PS4 experience, making it even more streamlined and enjoyable.
Following the update, you’ll be able to smoothly pick games up right where you left off, find and connect with friends quicker, customize your experience and share your most epic moments in a more meaningful way.
PlayStation 4 v2.50 Update
Features coming to PS4 with “Yukimura” include:
- Suspend/Resume* — Supported by nearly all of your PS4 games, you can jump in and out of your games with just the press of the PS button. Quickly switch from Rest Mode to powered-up so you can pick up where you left off.
- Back-Up and Restore HDD to USB — Back-up and restore your hard disc drive data associated with users on your PS4, including settings, saved data, screenshots and video clips as well as games, patches and download data, to and from an external USB drive.
- Find and Connect with Friends — “Yukimura” adds to an already robust set of social tools, bringing several updates to continue making PS4 the best place to play with your friends, including:
- Facebook Friend Finder — Using your linked account, you can expand your network by searching and connecting with your Facebook friends.
- Improved Friend requests — Friend requests and Real Name requests can be sent together in one step when adding a friend on PS4.
- Streamlined Party process — The process to create a Party has been streamlined with a reduction in the number of steps required.
- Find Friends who play your games — Easily view what friends are playing on each game detail page with a real-time “Friends Who Play This” section, which also highlights which friends are currently online and playing it, and if you own the game, allows you to jump directly into the game.
- Join Friends directly from news feed — A new tile will be added on your What’s New feed where you can see what your friends are currently playing, enabling you to join in the game if you own it.
- Share Earned Trophies and Optimize Your Trophy List — We know that Trophies are important to many gamers, so we’re bringing more control with how you show them off:
- Automatic Trophy Screenshots — A screenshot will automatically be captured when a Trophy is earned, preserving the moment to share with friends.
- SHARE Trophies — Players can share Trophy information to Facebook, Twitter or via Message by pressing the SHARE button.
- Additional Trophy sorting options — Sort your Trophy list by Earned Date, Not Earned and Grade.
- Delete 0% Trophies — Remove games from your Trophy list that have zero percent completion.
- Improved and Expanded Accessibility Options — New options added to customize the user experience include:
- Customized button assignments for DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller.
- Zoom for displayed pictures and inverted colors for all system functions, apps and in-game.
- Text-to-speech is available only for Message and Party, and is only performed in English.**
- Enlarged text for all graphical user interface, including Message and Party, as well as the system’s browser.
- Bolder fonts and higher contrast UI for all system applications (but will not apply to games or third-party applications).
- Remote Play and Share Play — For games that support 60 fps, users will be able to automatically enjoy those games with 60 fps for both Remote Play and Share Play*** on supported devices.
- Automatic Installation for System Software Updates — Enable automatic installation for future system software updates.
- Sub-Account Upgrade — Enable users 18 years of age or older with sub-accounts to upgrade to a master account directly on PS4, removing restrictions on chat and enabling users to add funds to their Wallet, purchase content and more.
- Verified Accounts — Select game developers, producers, designers and community managers will be verified with a badge.
- Dailymotion — Upload video clips directly to Dailymotion via the SHARE button.
PlayStation Vita and PlayStation App for smartphones and tablets will also receive system software updates tonight, adding complementary features to those added to PS4. PS Vita update version 3.50 and PlayStation App update version 2.50 will add new accessibility options, including enlarged text, increased contrast and more. This update also enables PS Vita to support 60 fps streaming for Remote Play***.

Conveniently missing the part of the Vita update where it removes Google Maps, parts of Ne@r and breaks Youtube.
Will there be an option to turn on the trophy screenshot feature, or at least options to set it to platinum trophies only?

Will I be able to share my trophies I’ve got on PSN already? I don’t no why but for some reason sharing on facebooks linked etcv but trophies seem to have stopped being added to my wall? I’ve re-added facebook already.

I thinks thats an odd feature requested to delete trophies with 0%. Why not just leave it to show that you have played the game at least?
Playstation plz answer this feature was reviled at ps4 revel David perry went on satge and said would it be nice to try a game out for free and buy if you like well with gaikia in psn you can soon do that you click on a game press x and you hop right into the game I like the moto try for free and buy it if you like is that feature still in the works I really need to know?
Is the 0% trophy account based or limited to PS4 games? It’s very odd this is added as an OS function of one console and not an account management tool that should be available via a browser.

Great job with th new features in this update. Still hoping that one day we can delete trophies wether or not it has a 0% completion rating.
As someone who’s used to the Western button configuration but who lives in Asia, all I really want is to be able to set which among X and O I want to use as confirm button. The button mapping option could address that but I feel like it somehow complicates things. If I swap X and O, then games would recognize X as O, and O as X. Imagine how that could be confusing during quick time events, or tutorials when the game prompts you to press O but it’s mapped to X.
DLNA is the feature we have been begging for. let us have some kinda media player so we can play movies from our pc on there

Huh? Okay if there was a follow feature, i guess.
I think another request a lot of us would really want, specially us twitch streamers, is the ability to have chat, whether it be party or free room chat, to let voices be heard through speakers and TV at the same time.. Basically like the PS3 audio settings, Xbox one has a petition going for it, so I believe to keep the competition going, we also should have that option
And perhaps make a mic off option for the headphone jack. Sometimes I would prefer people not to hear me and it sucks that I have to mute everyone in every lobby to keep them from hearing me. Maybe and mic on/off option. Plz

Awesome! Now just to be clear. I will be able to save games onto an external hard drive and be able to play them off it?
I just want to be able to grab party chat audio when I share my gameplay clips with the share button.
Peaaaasseeee give us the option to disable the wifi coming from the ps4 to remoteplay with the vita. Want to be able to use our own internet connection to remoteplay. The wifi from the ps4 not strong enough to get a good experience. Beside this tx for the update keep up the good work.
Id like to see external hard drive support for game storage, customized desktops with imported picture and icon support that allows us to see what we want on our desktop(5 games, 10 games, a text list instead of icons, etc….), Full Music support via iPod, ext. Hard Drive, Usb, etc…, removal of demos from games list, animated background creator software that allows import of custom background pictures.

Does this mean I could use a thumbdrive to put ame saves onto? If so up to how many gigs can the Thumbdrive be?
Also PLEASE put the DNLA or whatever is called where I could put USB music into the console like PS3 had. I would like to be able use proper entrance music in my WWE 2k16 like in all past WWE on ps3 before 2k15.

everybody should post this on every single blog post until it happens. PSNow is not a replacement. we are already paying for PS+, we shouldn’t need to pay for yet another subscription to play the games we bought.
i wonder if the hdd backup will let us do an image so we could upgarde to a larger hdd without the need to download al those gigas allover again
@31 it probably only means what it says “Back up and Restore” this will not allow you to Play games off of the external HDD, no matter how much I want that feature
Delete 0% Trophies I understand only works on PS4 games. Could you add this function to PS3 and Vita games too?

I find it absolutely hilarious that you guys are putting so much emphasis on community and social features but you HAVE YET to bring online notifications. I mean seriously. That should be your #1 priority by next patch.

Nice patch! This brings a lot of features that are helpful, especially the accessibility items.
Only things missing now are 1 – notifications for friends coming online/offline 2 – appearing offline/busy 3 – storing media (music/videos/pictures) on the hdd. Pretty solid update nonetheless.
