Mighty No. 9 Launches September 15th

Hello PlayStation fans!

At long last am I able to share new and exciting details about Mighty No. 9, as Deep Silver announces a partnership with comcept and legendary designer Keiji Inafune to increase the reach and scope of this incredible, beloved title. Deep Silver will bring the title to retail this fall, with even more content for new and established fans around the world.

Mighty No. 9 is truly a transformative experience for the 2D side-scrolling action genre, with deep roots in gaming spanning generations of gamers. Taking into account decades of design experience as well as tens of thousands of pieces of feedback from the Kickstarter backers (thank you!), comcept and Inti Creates have put together all of the best elements of 8 and 16-bit classics that you love, and infused them with fresh mechanics to reinvigorate the genre.

With today’s announcement, we’re pleased to tell you that the game will release physically on PlayStation 4 as well as digitally on all three PlayStation platforms: PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 will launch simultaneously on September 15, 2015, with the PS Vita version coming shortly after.

Comcept is continuing their hard work making Mighty No. 9 the best game possible. We’re excited for everyone to get their hands on the game, but in the meantime we’ve listed a couple of the specific features you can look forward to when the game launches on September 15th.

Mighty No. 9
  • Play through 12 Unique and Challenging Stages in a single player campaign.
  • Unlock the New Game+ to add an additional two extra difficulty levels including a punishing Turbo mode.
  • The Single Player Challenge mode with dozens of mini missions for the hardest of challenges.
  • Boss Rush Mode: Play through each of the game‘s bosses, back to back, with a clock ticking to keep track of your best time.
  • Show the world how Mighty you are in the 2 Player Online Race Battle where you compete online, racing through each stage together in a head to head battle – adding an all new twist on versus mode play that will give Mighty No. 9 life well beyond the single-player campaign.
  • 2 Player Online Co-Op Challenge Mode: take on over a dozen missions online with a friend, playing as Beck and his partner, Call! Use Beck and Call’s different powers together in order to defeat these special challenges.
  • Toggle between regular and 8-bit music: this game is a veritable who’s who of veteran game composers – Manami Matsumae, Takeshi Tateishi, Ippo Yamada. As such, Mighty No. 9 features an optional chiptune version of the entire game soundtrack which you can toggle on and off.
  • Brand new Ray DLC which features a new stage with its own unique boss as well as a brand new unlockable playable character.

Look for us as we showcase Mighty No. 9 at various events this summer!

  • @42 – Yes we understand how difficult it is developing games nowadays and I too don’t mind delays BC it means they are trying to make the game tip top. I prefer they delay as long as possible in order to make a pristine game. In the case of this game they are out sourcing with another company handling the Vita development so the burden is not on them. I don’t understand how they can’t time it up properly so that all versions release on time. This is why it appears the handheld version is an afterthought BC if they contacted Abstraction earlier in development of m#9 then I’m sure it would’ve been out on Vita on time.

  • @42 – Don’t get me wrong I love deep silver and what they stand for and I like the guys behind this Mighty no nine, but they themselves admitted that the game is basically done so now it’s time for promotion and porting. They should’ve been developing it for Vita (in conjunction with abstraction if need be) along side the normal development process, not just porting it at the end. Helldivers did it, so did ollieollie2 and both games were great and on time.

  • I was interested in the game…until I saw the gameplay. I was hoping for a modern day Mega Man and instead got…this.

I’ll see how the vita version turns out and might buy it for that.

  • @36, @41: No, I’m not buying a Vita because there’s no future in it. If you looked at things rationally you’d see the same. Shuhei Yoshida, when asked if he thought the Vita would be getting fewer 1st party games, said “I would say, yes, that’s correct”[0]. Don Mesa thinks that AAA games will get on the Vita through Remote Play and PS Now[1]. If I had one, I couldn’t even play all my PSN PSP games on it (blame the publishers if you want, it’s Sony’s console and you’d think they’d want to keep their customers), even though there were a few days last year where every PSP/PSOne Classic was available on the Vita[2].

I’m glad you guys like your Vitas. It just doesn’t make sense to me to buy one.

  • I still remember this game, been waiting on news about it and this is some great news…glad Deep Silver stepped up and decided to publish it because Mighty No.9 looks absolutely amazing.I’m surprised you guys are releasing it on retail but its a shame that its for PS4 only…I’m getting it on PS3 or Vita.Anyway I’m really glad to see this game saw the light of day, can’t wait to play it.

Also I saw a lot of 2 players online this, online that…but how about 2 players OFFLINE option?….please don’t disappoint us because Mighty No.9 MUST have 2 player offline mode.

But yo announcing DLC 5 months before the game releases…damn thats a sad way to break our enthusiasm.

  • I also want to second the request for a retail release of the PS Vita version: that would definitely make it worth the wait!

  • please any chance for retail release for playstation vita

  • @54 – You may read and parrot what others say and think Vita has no future, but u know what? It has one heck of a past in the amazing game catalog which u have never touched. It makes sense for anyone to buy a Vita considering the incredible collection of exclusives, ports, cross-buy, cross-play, remote play. Fantastic AAA exclusives u will never play including Uncharted Golden Abyss, LBP Vita, Tearaway, Freedom Wars, AC Liberation, Oreshika, Killzone Mercenary, Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice, Soul Sacrifice Delta. Even big exclusives Resistance Burning Skies and Unit13 I found very enjoyable. There are so many good Vita games including some that have been ported since, but games like Hotline, Guacamelee, escape plan, ollieollie ect were really made for Vita. Ur blind if u don’t see the value in purchasing a Vita, if you are a ps4/PS plus owner and/or a trophy hunter the u should own a Vita.

  • I can’t wait for this game. I was wondering are there going to be any PS3/PS4 themes released alongside the game?

Though I definitely want to show my support and get a physical copy of the game. What types of goodies will you be uncovering in the coming weeks anyway?

Will there be a artbook or a limited edition that people can preorder so that we can have it in hand by September?

  • Backer here, excited for the release!

  • @59 nope, I own a PSPGo. I still own 20 games that are not now and will probably never be available for Vita, so I’d have to carry around two Sony devices to play a catalog that is *technically* playable on the Vita but *practically* not so. Besides, I own Gravity Rush, and I’m sure I’d get Killzone and Hotline Miami 1/2 if it made sense for me to do so.

But then again, I’m not a txtspeeking twelve year old, so what do I know?

  • Can we get a demo for the PlayStation 3?

  • Perfect game for my Vita.

  • The 8-Bit soundtrack is by far one of the best assets this game has.

Inquiry: I’m a man who does not like high speeds. Would there be a possibility to challenge other people online on something other than beating stuff as fast as possible? That doesn’t ring any bells here.

    • There are several different ways you can compete with others online ranging from online speedruns to leaderboard challenges, you can either cooperate with them to beat specific challenges together. If speed isn’t your thing, we’ve still got you covered!

  • I’m in for a retail release on PS4 (also got wind of physical release on one of the competetive consoles, which I will also be getting in support of physical).

If there is any way WHATSOEVER, even a limited-run Physical Release only sold through a 3rd party storefront like Digital River for the PS Vita version, PLEASE consider it. I would gladly pay whatever asking price would be for it. Even if a collector’s edition that cost $100 or something, I don’t care. I will throw my money at physical releases in support.

  • I got hype seeing “retail release” but got quickly brought back down to earth by seeing that’s only for PS4. My PS3 is sad now :(

Any chance you & Inti Creates could pull out a retail copy of Gunvolt on the 3DS? I’d double dip.

Also Inti Creates: release the Lumen themes in the west already! :|

  • Cool, we finally got a release date for Mighty No. 9! Though I wasn’t able to back the project for Mighty No. 9 (I really wanted to) I am REALLY excited for this game. I wonder how much the PS4 version will be (as well as PS3 and Vita)? Also I read that the vita version will release after, just hope it won’t be too long, cause I am SOOOO ready for some Mighty No. 9! Yeaaahhh!!! *Does victory dance*

  • Oh and as many others would want, I prefer a retail release too. Would be sooooo much better!!

  • I love shovel knight, do you ?

  • Since we now know that a physical copy will be coming out, Is it possible to buy the physical copy 30 dollar version with all the dlc and extra features? or does it have to be the digital version only

    • The physical copy does contain all the DLC and extra features… for exactly $30! Today your wishes come true :)

  • DLC at launch….. hate that this is reality.

  • Can Vita get a physical release please. Even if a limited release. Like Preorders only or EB/GameStop exclusive etc.
This Vita treatment is getting out of hand. I want to buy for Vita more than PS4 and was hoping to buy physical on Vita and PS4. But mainly play for Vita. But not only is Vita not getting physical. BUT it isn’t even being released the same time… Ruining my hype. PS Vita is forever dissed…

  • Please do a physical release for Vita. I will buy it.

Even games like Retro City Rampage and Child of Light were able to do one.

  • Ryan, any chance it’s going to have a platinum?

  • Will comcept be adding more dlc after the game has been released or will that be just it? Just curious dont mind if none extra dlc

  • Glad I backed this game to the tune of $75 to get a game case just to see an actual retail version being released for $29.99. Lame.

  • I will wait for the Vita version, but I would much rather a physical copy for Vita. I would pay more for a physical Vita copy – I’d be willing to pay 40$ for a physical Vita version.

  • I thought this was supposed to come out in Spring? Holy crap there are like no games for Spring and Summer.

  • Mr. Avery, can u confirm that Homefront: The Revolution is indeed in development and planning to be released in or around the end of 2015? This is one of my most anticipated games and I’d love some info on it, anything, at least a thumbs up.

  • Thanks for the update! I’m looking forward to this game!

  • @79 – Summer is always dry, but spring will feature The Witcher III, Arkham Knight, GoW 3 Remastered, WWolfenstein’s amazing prequel The Old Blood, everybody’s gone to the rapture. Batman and Rapture are more summer but still a decent rung of games.

  • I been waiting for this game for so long !(◎_◎;) ,but three thing’s.
Will the PS3&Vita get retail release to?Cause I was going pick it up on PS4/PS3/Vita Retail .-. Lol.
And will there be Collector’s Edition or something? And is there a Plat trophy.( ̄^ ̄)ゞ

  • Physical FTW ! Have to echo the offline platinum. Total **** move for sce to lock online behind a paywall and not tell internal and 3rd party devs to separate sp and mp trophies. Shame about portable but hope this partnership lasts for many physically released sequels. “pew pew pew!”

  • Please bring the vita version on physical form… i dont like only digital stuff, Im a collector..

  • As a Kickstarter Backer I’m officially calling myself a Day 0 Purchaser.

Here’s hoping that those upcoming announcement is 3 way Cross-buy. That would be brilliant because I can’t decide if I want PS4 or Vita and I don’t think I had a PS4 at the time, so I don’t know what I said I wanted in the backer survey.

Man it’s been a long time coming.

  • @84.

Do you know how much it costs to release physical copies? How much profit do you think they would make at $20 physical copies on Vita?

Better off making a psuedo physical copy.

  • Oh and they did have physical copies of the game for Kickstarter backers.

The brilliance of having people buy their copy before the game is even made.

  • Hopefully it will be closer to a psn title price than a full retail game price. Wished I had had the money to be a backer when it was starting. Been waiting for this game for a while. Also – to the person who said the game looks childish….. just… wow. so if the colour palette isn’t all grey, it must be childish? This is a spiritual successor to Mega Man created by MM’s creator since Capcom are a bunch of tools about the franchise.

I guess some people hate any game that doesn’t have the words “call” or “duty” in the title.

  • Ok, digital is $20, physical (including the DLC) is $30 according to the Mighty No 9 site.

  • @86
But Physical copies are $30. So how is that relevant…

  • excuse me for the stupid question but online cross play between ps vita ps4 is it possible or not for co-op ?

  • Looking forward to this.

  • I’m a backer from the start ^_^ I can’t wait to play this Keiji Inafune (Megaman) game! Ohh yeah!

  • This “RAY DLC” is vague. He is an unlockable character…as in we can play through then single player campaign with him? Will this be similar to the Vile campaign in Maverich Hunter x? Or just a skin to use through the game. Will he have a unique skill set and lines of dialogue? Or is this just a cheap Beck story and Ray character thing.

Also please PLEASE don’t make us wait for the Vita release, as a backer who will be collecting this game for free ( or already paid for) at launch I really don’t want to get the shaft because my chosen version is the Vita.

  • Hi:
Looks O.k. for a $2.00 Dollar Game. If this will be Cross Buy, Cross Save and Cross Play, then I believe it’s O.k. at $4.99

  • Hi:
There is NO WAY this game worth $20.00 As I said, must be $4.99 with Cross Buy, Cross Save and Cross Play or $2.00 alone. People… WAKE UP! This is just a Mega Man wanna be!!!

  • Really looking forward this one, cross-buy would be excellent <3
    I'll probably buy it anyway.

  • Hi:
@54 I agree with you, sort of. I really like a LOT my PlayStation Vita, Man. What I don’t like is Why can’t we play all the PSP and PSOne games on it? Some months ago we did it. That’s SONY who don’t want that… Why? I mean, even the PSP Demos were playable!
    Red 5.

  • Well this is certainly bittersweet. A super snazzy box, a new stage and character, and additional voices…at the cost of playing this game during my summer vacation. Stinks there isn’t a PS3 Physical release. If my PS4’s internet is fixed before MN9 comes out I’ll definitely try and pick it up. If not I’ll settle with the digital download version on PS3. Any info on the possibility of Cross Buy should you download the game on PS3/Vita? And will the Ray DLC be a separate download at launch if you don’t get the physical release? Either way, can’t wait for the kind of return of Mega-Man!
