The Last of Us: Left Behind Available as Standalone Download May 12th

The team at Naughty Dog is excited that Left Behind, the critically-acclaimed and award-winning single-player chapter to The Last of Us, will be available as a standalone download via PlayStation Store. The Last of Us: Left Behind standalone will be available on both PS4 and PS3 starting May 12th for only $9.99 ($14.99 CAN). We will be dropping the price of the Left Behind Add-on on PS3 to the same price on that day as well.

If you haven’t had a chance yet to check out The Last of Us, this is a nicely priced gateway to checking out the world and characters so many people (and critics) loved. While part of the story of Left Behind takes place during the main narrative arc of The Last of Us, I think some of the best and most touching moments of any game in recent memory occur during the prequel segments, as we follow Ellie and Riley as they sneak out of boarding school to visit an abandoned mall, getting one final chance to enjoy their friendship before Riley leaves to join the Fireflies.

Left Behind

You can get more immersed into the story of Ellie and Riley in The Last of Us: American Dreams comic book, published by Dark Horse, co-written by Faith Erin Hicks and The Last of Us Creative Director Neil Druckmann, with interior art by Faith Erin Hicks. I highly, highly recommend it.

We realize that most of Naughty Dog fans and readers of PlayStation.Blog will have probably already played The Last of Us and maybe even the Left Behind Add-on chapter — if you enjoyed the games, be sure to tell your friends that haven’t played this great introduction to The Last of Us.

We’ve also included a two hour trial of the Factions Multiplayer mode. The Left Behind standalone game will have built-in upgrade paths through the in-game store to both the full Factions experience and/or the full game for The Last of Us.

Below are the details on the upgrade possibilities on both PS4 and PS3 after you already own the Left Behind standalone game.

PS4
Full Factions Multiplayer $9.99 ($14.99 CAN)
Full digital single-player game with Treacherous Territories Map Pack
(if you already own the full Factions Multiplayer)
$29.99 ($24.99 CAN)
Full digital single-player game, Factions Multiplayer Mode, and the Treacherous Territories Map Pack bundle $39.99 ($39.99 CAN)
PS3
Full Factions Multiplayer $9.99 ($9.99 CAN)
Full digital single-player game with Treacherous Territories Map Pack
(if you already own the full Factions Multiplayer)
$19.99 ($14.99 CAN)
Full digital single-player game, Factions Multiplayer Mode, and the Treacherous Territories Map Pack bundle $29.99 ($24.99 CAN)

These prices reflect US and CAN pricing. Please check your local PlayStation Store for regional pricing. We hope to see all you new fans of The Last of Us on May 12th!

  • Why is TLOUR still 55$ on the PS store when it is given away with new ps4s? And never on sale! I feel like the last person on earth who hasn’t played this yet!

Check out Rakuten. $15 right now. Or eBay. Those digital download cards are cheap everywhere right now.

  • It’s an incentive to buy a ps4. That’s the point of the bundle. Buy a ps4 get TLOU remastered free.

49.99 is the list price and that’s what it is on the US store at least. Amazon usually runs it cheaper, right now its 43 there.

  • DOES ND REALLY THINK WE’RE IDIOTS, WANTING TO JUST BUY A 2 HOUR DLC AND SKIPPING AN 8-10 HOUR MAIN STORY?? I GAURENTEE THE ENDING OF THE DLC ONLY WILL FEEL EMPTY TO PLAYERS. THIS WILL THEN HAVE PLAYERS PROBERLY BUYING THE MAIN GAME.
THIS IS NOTHING BUT MONEY STRATEGY AND GRABBING FOR ND, BUT IM NOT COMPLAINING.

  • omg finally!! was hoping for a half price deal, but ten bucks will do, i waited this long for a price drop.

  • Last time a split of Naughty Dgo software was made. We got part of it as PS+. Interesting.

  • @44 nolson

I said it’s pointless for ps4 owners because it already comes on the disc. Also it states clearly WARNING Recommended for players who have completed the main story.

  • Except its still not pointless. Let me give you a scenario.

I own the last of us on ps3, but never bought left behind because I didn’t have the money at the time. I now own a ps4 and do not own the last of us remastered because I already played it on ps3. This standalone download gives me an option to experience left behind on ps4 for 10 dollars.

Now do you see how it is not pointless. These comments are full of people just LOOKING FOR ANYTHING to complain about. Make it stop.

This is great, i have a lot of friends on Factions and some of them lost their Digital copy of TLoUR for buying it on Online stores, Left Behind + Factions Combo = ND GOD AWESOME YEAH :)

  • @44 Nolson It’s as @54 said or most of what people said in this blog without caps. The Playstation 4 is nearly 2 years old. It’s time for Naughty Dog to release something new. Even a new tiny 2hr standalone DLC would be cool. But since 2015 loves remakes here’s to waiting again till next year.

Beside if you now own a PS4 you should now own a Remastered TLOUR with The Left Behind… If not check out slickdeals in the games section and get “everything” for $12 digital.

  • Why would you sell the map pack with the single player on PS4?

Everyone who has the game on PS4 has every map. There is no split community.

Now you’re splitting up that community, and charging for a map pack that was free, but only if you buy it with the single player?

    Backwards.

  • Guess the millions you got for The Last of Us and will get for Uncharted 4 won’t be enough….

  • Sounds good ;-)
    The best game ever

  • @nelson
What are you worked up about fanboy? ND keep saying they ” want to do Crash and Activision is holding him” but that a lie, since they haven’t even touch Jak IP.

I dont care if they want to milk TLoU for the rest of their lives, but dont use Activision as a excuse when they’re not touching an IP they own.

Oh and dont give that “they tried but it didn work” crap. That cconcept art is nothing like Jak. So mind your own business instead of attacking anyone who say anything negative about your favourite “company”

  • @Noison I agree with you, you are not alone.

@Chip1010 if you happen to be in the U.S. Black Friday last year had TLOU for like $25 or less.

Your profile says United States, but I can’t really verify that.

It should be cheap hopefully by the end of the year. Why isn’t it going on sale often? I’d have to guess because it’s a good game, but dropping the price would undermine it as a value add in store. A parent looks at an Xbox One that’s $400 dollars with a $60 game versus a $400 dollar PS4 with a $20 game and the person in Electronics just goes “Oh well either game is great” a parent is probably gonna pick up the one with the $60 pack in…

Even though they’ll get home and probably regret the decision as the kid is waiting for hours if not a day (on crappy DSL) for the game to install 50GB and 15-30GB of online patches and game content on their 8Mb-MB connection (a bit is 1/8th of a Byte 8MB x 8 = 64Mb for those unfamiliar with the jargon upper/lowercase)

Maybe it’s gotten better by now, but… I hear the competition hasn’t gotten things as smooth as Playstation. Which isn’t always as smooth as it should be.

  • Reasons why someone might buy this standalone.

    1. Rented it from a store.
    2. Gamefly/Redbox
    3. Watched a playthrough on Youtube or Ustream/Twitch
    4. Played the campaign through Share Play/Gamesharing/borrowing/coming to a friend’s house etc
    5. Is a PS Now subscriber or tried it out via PS Now free 2 week trial
    6. Only bought the base game on PS3 or uninstalled it to make room for something else.

This is only a partial list. Use your imagination, and you’ll realize there are plenty of people who might actually buy this. There will probably even be someone who does themselves a disservice and buys this without having ever played TLOU because… well… clearly they have unguided knowledge of Playstation and need better gaming friends.

  • if you own TLOU Remastered is there anything we don’t have that’s available in this pack?

  • I loved the last of us remastered and left behind. Finished them both. I’m ready for another last of us lol.

  • Look, I’ll make it simple to the dum-dums who can’t seem to grasp this simple concept:
I played Last of Us back on PS3.
    The PS4 came out!
I didn’t want to buy TLOU again, but I did want to play the dlc, however, until now the only way was to repurchase the whole package.
    Now, I don’t have to.
You are right, nolson. I love the PS community too, but there are some total jerks on here with a very…unfortunate way of comprehending things.

  • I think this is a great idea. I already own the full game on PS4, but I can see this being very appealing to fans who only own(ed) it on PS3.

  • @60 TomoPrime

It’s been 2 years since TLOU came out dude. Making a big budget AAA game takes time especially if you want it to be good. 2 years is BARE MINIMUM for a decent AAA game these days. Give them time, U4 is coming in the spring.

    @64 MegaRayIII

I’m not a fanboy. I just am not a total idiot like every one of your posts. You got a serious hard on for Crash and Jack dude. Theyre not using activision as an excuse. It’s a fact. They don’t have the rights to Crash. PERIOD. They tried making Jack but in a way that wouldn’t be a rehash. PERIOD. It didn’t work out. Stop posting and embarrassing yourself and the community please.

  • why is this even on offer when you can get digital code on cdkeys.com for 12€ ?

  • @nelson
I dont care about Jak/Crash anymore. But I am sick of ND giving people hope that they might return to Crash/Jak. When in reality, they wont stop making “cinematic” games. Dont give people false hope. Again, what are YOU angry about? And how am I embarrassing the community? Lol you take the internet way too seriously dude. Chill down.

  • Nothing personal, it’s just business

  • Will need to get this soon. 10 beats 20

  • Pointless for people who own TLOU and spoilerific for those who don’t.

It doesn’t really matter how this is spun, this looks and smells like a quick cash grab. But good luck regardless, not that ND or TLOU needs it.

  • Pfffft, I gave up buying DLC for this game after they added 15,000 hats. I’ll get the standalone Left Behind DLC if I can find it through all the other pointless DLC.

  • The Last Of Us is one of the best games that I’ve played but this DLC has many peaceful moments that are very boring.

  • Shadowbhiemes

not on PS3, not for those who rented the game and didn’t do all the DLC, not for people who watched game play because maybe they are a kid and couldn’t get $30-50 dollars…

Even if it’s a cash grab, and you are right, who the hell cares? Who is twisting your arm making you get it? Who is going to break your legs if you don’t get it?

Quit crying over OPTIONS and CHOICES. It’s not the worst thing that will ever happen to gaming.

  • Love this announcement. I haven’t played the DLC yet, I’ll be buying on day one!

  • Come on, ND… How about a remake of “WAY OF THE WARRIOR” that came out for 3D0 in the 90’s? That game was hilarious and a blast. Remake it for the newer systems, but don’t change the soundtrack (White Zombies Lasexorcisto album) and don’t change the game, just make it available as a classic if you must. These new games are awesome, but you should include some of the older stuff that made Naughty Dog amazing in the first place! Cheers

  • What a waste of time, what a shame…its sad to see what TLoU has become, damn a game can’t get famous that damn devs and publishers try to squeeze money out of it in every way possible.Damn the MP became a mess of overpriced DLC and you ND ****** the season pass buyers and then released a bunch of stupid DLC like executions….I mean for real?….without mentioning the recycled PS4 version.
Now y’all wanna release Left Behind as a standalone game and try to get a lil more juice outta that orange dont ya?…squeeze squeeze squeeze!!!

  • @ 35 Strangeheaven – Woow just wow…rockstar are one of the worst if not the worst devs in animation.Horse and wildlife animations were decent at BEST….those clunky mess can’t even be compared to UC3 and specially TLoU which were great. There are much games with better horse animations, you are the delusional one.

@ 50 nolson – Funny how you say there are people spoiling the PS community when you’re one of them.Sheeps like you trying to defend bull**** like this which is milking are the problem of not only the PS community but the whole gaming community. And the worst of all is that you think you have any reason….LMAO.

  • Sorry naughty dog team but you won’t receive any cent from my wallet after what you did it to all fans at Uncharted 3 multiplayer mode is corrupted since the project was abandoned.

  • Ahh, a remaster of a remaster? Thanks?

  • @85 – That’s not at all what this is. One used to need to own TLoU in order to play Left Behind. That will no longer be a requirement.

  • @83/84 Welmosca

Who is twisting your arm to buy this?

Who the frick cares? You complain, and whine and cry over optional stuff.

I’m gonna be blunt as possible with you. This is such a non issue, it surpasses the phrase “First World Problems”

It’s not even a problem. Imagine if I said “Oh I hate Green Day and Rockband has Green Day DLC therefor I’m going to boycott Rockband 4, for milking that group”

The correct rebuttal to that would be “Fine just don’t buy Green Day!”

You could be complaining about Destiny DLC, or World of Warcraft lvl 90 Character boosts, or the option to spend $100 at one time in a crappy mobile game.

Instead you’re picking your fight over hats and executions. Things that have no impact on anything other than a personal sense of style and humour. Really? That’s your line in the sand? Standalone DLC, hats, and executions?

  • So I already have The Last of Us on PS3 and only wanted to play the multiplayer on PS4, can I just download this?

  • LOL. If you think the horses had better animations in UC3 than RDR, I hope you don’t drive. Graphically looking better is not equal to animations.

  • Red Dead Redemption horse animation rules be certain of that. (^,.,^)

  • @83 Welmosca

“Funny how you say there are people spoiling the PS community when you’re one of them.Sheeps like you trying to defend bull**** like this which is milking are the problem of not only the PS community but the whole gaming community. And the worst of all is that you think you have any reason….LMAO.”

You should be embarrassed dude. There’s so many legitimate battles to pick in gaming and you pick this? They’re are LEGITIMATE reasons why someone would buy this. This isn’t for people who have already played Left Behind. It’s for people who have never played it who owned Last of Us PS3 but didn’t buy the remaster. This gives them an option to own it. You’re looking in the wrong place for controversy, but I suppose that’s the internet these days. Hate on anything and everything or else you are a sheep. You should be embarrassed.

  • What do you mean by “Full Factions Multiplayer”?

I have the PS3 physical version, as well as the Season Pass for that.

But I wouldn’t mind paying $10 for the PS4 multiplayer standalone if it comes with all DLC content. Doest it?
